News Breakers

Kurt Warner Sore but Fine expand +

Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner said at the opening of training camp that he still has some soreness in his hip from offseason surgery.

Pyro's Take:

Warner played through the pain in 20 games last year, and he said that the soreness he feels now is no worse than the pain he felt last season. We expect him to still be a top-tier QB this year.

Anquan Boldin's Focused on Football expand +

Boldin, who's made it well known that he would like a new contract, put all contract issues aside and reported to training camp on time. He said he's there to play football.

Pyro's Take:

While Boldin would like a new contract, he's realized he probably won't get one until the end of this season. He also said he'd be open to resigning with the Cards once his contract expires after the 2010 season. Either way, it looks like he's ready to go and should be the No. 1 fantasy receiver we expect him to be.

Steve Breaston Likely to Return Punts expand +

The Arizona Cardinals No. 3 receiver is likely to retain his punt returning duties, and he might return some kicks as well.

Pyro's Take:

Breaston hasn't exactly impressed on special teams, scoring just one punt return TD in 2 years. He's battling Safety Antrel Rolle as well as RBs Chris Wells and La'Rod Stephens-Howling for the job, but we expect him to retain it. Also, with J.J. Arrington gone, Breaston is also being considered as the top kick returner.

Tim Hightower to Start expand +

Tim Hightower is expected to be the starter at RB for the Arionza Cardinals when the season commences.

Pyro's Take:

The Cardinals are expecting rookie Chris Wells to challenge for, and take over, the starting duties. But the fact that he's missing valuable training camp time due to a sprained ankle is good news for Hightower. However, we still expect Wells to be the leading rusher for the Cardinals at the end of the season.

Matt Leinart Matures expand +

All throughout the offseason, Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt has praised the maturation phase that Leinart has gone through in the past year. Those comments were backed up by QB Kurt Warner in an appearance on Rome is Burning on July 15.

Pyro's Take:

Whisenhunt said, "I have to give credit to Matt, because it appears to me, from what I have seen on the practice field, that he has grown up." Even though Leinart is the backup, this is good news as he could be a hot pickup off the waiver wire if Warner goes down.

Beanie Wells sprains ankle expand +

The Arizona Cardinals' rookie running back was carted off the field Saturday with a sprained right ankle and will be out at least until the end of the week.

Pyro's Take:

The good news is that this isn't a serious injury that will keep him out a long time. We expect Wells to be back in plenty of time to compete with Tim Hightower for the No. 1 running back slot, although this injury might mean he'll have to wait until a few weeks into the season to start.

Cardinals' RB Beanie Wells practices expand +

For the first time since injuring his ankle on Aug. 1, rookie RB Beanie Wells practiced at full speed while making cuts in solo drills without major pain.

Pyro's Take:

Wells is still unlikely to play in the Cardinals' first preseason game on Thursday, as head coach Ken Whisenhunt added, "it's probably not greatly possible. . . .But there are plenty of preseason games left we can get him in, so we should be OK." We expected Wells to take over the starting job from Tim Hightower by the end of September, but this injury will delay it a little more.

Cardinals' RB Hightower increases lead on Beanie Wells expand +

According to Arizona Cardinals beat writer Daniel Urban, Tim Hightower is "stretching the distance" between he and rookie RB Beanie Wells on the depth chart.

Pyro's Take:

Wells sat out last week with an injured ankle, and that is never good for a rookie. Every day Wells misses time is a good day for Hightower. However, we predicted Wells to takeover Hightower's starting job by the end of September, and this injury will only delay that by one or two weeks.

Cardinals' TE Pope no lock to start expand +

Even though Arizona Cardinals TE Leonard Pope is No. 1 on the depth chart, he is no lock to start the season opener, reports beat writer Kent Somers. The Cards have five TEs who they like, and TEs coach Freddie Kitchens said everyone, "bring something different to the table,"

Pyro's Take:

The Cardinals have employed exactly one fantasy relevant TE in a decade - Freddie Jones in 2003, and his numbers were barely starter-worthy. If you were targeting an AZ TE in this year's draft, maybe it's time for another hobby.

Kurt Warner's hip about 85% healthy expand +

Arizona Cardinals QB Kurt Warner said that his hip is about 85 percent healthy from offseason surgery.

Pyro's Take:

Warner has been able to fully participate in training camp, but there have been multiple times where Warner will grimace in pain or appear to favor his hip. He's only played 16 games once since 2001, but at age 38, he's started 31 consecutive games. So which Warner will show up this year?

Cardinals' QB Leinart competing for backup spot expand +

Two sources have told Yahoo! Sports that the threat of veteran QB Brian St. Pierre overtaking incumbent Matt Leinart at the No. 2 QB position is "very real."

Pyro's Take:

The Arizona Cardinals coaches raved about Leinart earlier in the offseason, so we're not too sure how "real" this threat is. If (when) Leinart does beat out Brian what-ever-his-name-is, he is a must-handcuff to Warner, given Warner's old brittle bones and the two all-pro WRs lining up in either direction of him.

Cardinals' WR Urban having an "oustanding" camp expand +

Arizona Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said that WR Jerheme Urban has, "had as good a camp as anybody...he's made a number of plays on the ball that were uncharacteristic of what he had done consistently."

Pyro's Take:

QB Kurt Warner also sung praise for the guy likely to win the No. 4 WR job over Early Doucet, saying, "the one thing I've seen in this camp is you can really start taking chances with Jerheme and you can feel comfortable with that." It's all positive and gushing news for Urban, but with guys named Fitzgerald, Boldin, and Breaston ahead of him, he'll struggle to put up significant numbers.

Fear of failure drives Fitzgerald expand +

In a recent interview, Arizona Cardinals WR said that even though he is one of the best receivers in the league, "the biggest thing that scares me is failure. That's my motivating factor."

Pyro's Take:

Some athletes lose the competitive drive once they ink the big deal. Not Fitzgerald. In July, he invited several current NFL receivers, as well as Cris Carter and Jerry Rice, to his home in Minnesota to work out. Rice was able to keep up with Fitz even at the ripe old age of 46!

Fitz is a beast, and draft him like you would one. We like two Johnsons ahead of him, and our debate of Moss or Fitz continues. Either way, he is a top 4 WR in all formats.

Anquan Boldin skips morning workout due to knee swelling expand +

Arizona Cardinals' WR Anquan Boldin skipped Monday's morning workout and rode the stationary bike. Coach Ken Whisenhunt said Boldin had swelling in his knee.

Pyro's Take:

This shouldn't be a big concern, as Boldin said, "there is nothing wrong with me" and he was riding the bike just for "maintenance." Boldin has since returned to practice but he might be limited the remainder of training camp. Either way, we expect him to be 100 percent when week one comes along.

Beanie back at practice... sort of expand +

Arizona Cardinals rookie RB Beanie Wells was back at practice on Sunday, but didn't receive a single rep as the coaches are looking to work him back in very slowly. Wells is recovering from a sprained ankle he suffered back in the beginning of August.

Pyro's Take:

Smart move coach Whisenhunt. With Tim Hightower as your backup RB for the moment, being as careful as you can with your new #1 guy is certainly advised. Wells should be back working harder later in the week and we'll keep you updated on his progress.

Breaston not back practicing yet expand +

Arizona Cardinals WR Steve Breaston sat out practice today with a sprained PCL and a bone bruise in his right leg. Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said that Breaston should be considered day-to-day at this point and didn't rule him out of the upcoming preseason contest against the Chargers this Friday.

Pyro's Take:

The Cardinals would sure like to see Breaston healthy, so they're not going to push him any more than necessary. PCL injuries are a bit tricky in that it sometimes takes a little while for them to feel 100%, but the Cardinals third nipple should be standing up straight again in no time.

Wells participates in practice expand +

Arizona Cardinals rookie RB Chris "Beanie" Wells took part in individual drills on Monday, August 17th. Beat reporter Kent Somers said that "It still doesn't seem like he's running smoothly," so it's possible Beanie isn't quite healthy yet.

Pyro's Take:

RB Tim Hightower had himself a really nice game in the preseason opener, so Wells may be feeling the pressure to get back out there to show what he can do. Rookies tend to overextend themselves at times, so someone needs to let him know that it can be counter-productive coming back too soon. Beanie is still questionable for the next preseason game.

Jerheme Urban MVP of camp expand +

Beat reporter Kent Somers noted that in practice on Monday, August 17th, Arizona Cardinals WR Jerheme Urban was impressive and caught everything that was thrown his way. Somers also noted that Urban just might be the MVP of camp thus far.

Pyro's Take:

With Steve Breaston out with an injury, Urban must be eyeing his chance to work himself into that coveted WR3 spot in the Cardinals offense. If Urban can get himself to the point where both the coaching staff and Kurt Warner have trust in him, could it be possible for the Cardinals to put up FOUR 1,000-yard receivers on the year?!?! Not at all likely, but Urban's play is definitely a bonus going into the 2009 season.

Fitzgerald restructures his contract expand +

Arizona Cardinals' all-world WR Larry Fitzgerald has restructured his contract to help the team gain some extra salary cap room. Though Fitz doesn't like to air his personal business, he did have this to say: “Guys that are elite players in the business, they have to sacrifice,” Fitzgerald said. “I know my fellow guy Q, he is in a position he doesn’t want to be in and I just want to see him happy. We talked about it when we moved into the new stadium, I remember in a preseason game talking with him about the Ring of Honor and how nice it would be to both have our names up there one day.” “I volunteered,” Fitzgerald said. “I told them if they needed something I wouldn’t hesitate. They said they needed it.”

Pyro's Take:

This is yet another of many reasons to have much love for this kid. He plays the game with his heart on his sleeve and understands that in the world of sports, you don't always have to be a jag to get what you want. Whether this move gets the Cardinals to pony up the cash for a new deal for Anquan Boldin or not remains to be seen, but it certainly doesn't hurt.

Breaston expected to miss next preseason game, Jerheme Urban to step in expand +

Arizona Cardinals WR Steve Breaston, who sprained his right knee in the game against the Steelers, is expected to miss the Cards preseason game against San Diego Saturday night. Breaston hasn't practiced since sustaining the injury.

Pyro's Take:

Breaston had an outstanding season in 2008, but is one of our picks to be a bust this year. The star of camp thus far, WR Jerheme Urban, has stepped up his game in Breaston's absence and will take over the WR3 duties while Stevie recovers.

Warner says hip is feeling good expand +

Arizona Cardinals starting QB Kurt Warner was in so much pain two weeks ago due to his surgically repaired hip that it killed him just to stand and talk. This week, after playing in two preseason games, Kurt said it doesn't hurt him nearly as much. "I feel a lot better," he said. "I feel probably twice as good as I felt at any point since I injured my hip. It's exciting for me that I'm seeing strides being made. I'm feeling more comfortable and I don't have to worry about trying to manage the pain. I'm definitely feeling better than I have in a long time."

Pyro's Take:

It's a great sign to see that Warner can make it through moments of live-action, but it's tough to believe Kurt will make it through the whole season healthy again like last year. Being 38-years old and having hip surgery doesn't quite settle our nerves in terms of his fantasy prospects in 2009. When he's healthy, the numbers are starter-worthy, but that's a huge "if" at this point.

Beanie Wells to make preseason debut Friday night expand +

Arizona Cardinals rookie RB Beanie Wells will be making his debut Friday night against the Packers. Wells had been nursing a sprained ankle since August 1st, but was back healthy and practicing all week prior to this announcement.

Pyro's Take:

The Cardinals would love to see Wells do well and eventually take the starting duties away from Tim Hightower. Wells has a ton of talent and would keep defenses from overly guarding against the high-powered Arizona passing attack. If Wells does well on Friday and comes out of the game intact, boost him back up your cheat sheet a bit as he will be the guy Arizona ends up depending on this year.

Hightower and Wells have solid night vs. the Packers expand +

Arizona Cardinals rookie RB Beanie Wells rushed seven times for 46 yards and two touchdowns against the Packers Friday night, one of which was a 20-yarder with a couple of really nice moves.

Pyro's Take:

Very encouraging, but the Packers struggled against the run all year in 2008, and don't appear to be much improved as even Tim Hightower had a big night rumbling for 38 yards on six carries.

Beanie Wells debut quite a showing expand +

Arizona Cardinals rookie RB Beanie Wells rushed seven times for 46 yards and two touchdowns against the Packers Friday night, one of which was a 20-yarder with a couple of really nice moves.

Pyro's Take:

Very encouraging, but the Packers struggled against the run all year in 2008, and don't appear to be much improved as even Tim Hightower had a big night rumbling for 38 yards on six carries.

Boldin still sitting with sore hamstring expand +

Arizona Cardinals WR Anquan Boldin was still on the sidelines during Monday's practice after tweaking his hamstring during practice last week.

Pyro's Take:

Our guess is that there is nothing seriously wrong here and that the Cardinals are just playing it safe with their big wide receiver. We'll keep you updated on the situation as it goes.

Boldin to sit out final preseason game expand +

Arizona Cardinals head coach Ken Whisenhunt decided on Tuesday that he will sit WR Anquan Boldin for the final exhibition match on Thursday. Boldin has been dealing with a hamstring issue since last Tuesday.

Pyro's Take:

Smart move by the Whiser. With third WR Steve Breaston having been injured for most of camp, and fifth WR Early Doucet recently injured as well, the Cardinals can't afford any more hits to their WR corps before the start of the regular season. Boldin should be fine for the Week 1 match-up against the 49ers.

Leinart limited in practice due to sore throwing shoulder expand +

Arizona Cardinals backup QB Matt Leinart has been limited in drills this week due to a sore left shoulder. Leinart injured his throwing shoulder in the last preseason game, but the injury isn't considered serious.

Pyro's Take:

Coach Ken Whisenhunt also mentioned that playing through the soreness could be good for Leinart, assuming there's nothing seriously wrong. Leinart should be fine and will most likely play for a little while in the Cards final preseason game this Thursday.

Arizona cuts ties with TE Leonard Pope expand +

The Arizona Cardinals announced that they have released TE Leonard Pope.

Pyro's Take:

This isn't too much of a surprise as Pope hasn't lived up to his potential. The Cardinals kept three other tight ends, so it speaks volumes that Pope was the only one of the four that was released.

Boldin misses practice on Monday expand +

Absent yet again from practice on Monday was Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin. Boldin missed the last two preseason games with a pulled right hamstring.

Pyro's Take:

Head coach Ken Whisenhunt said when asked about Boldin's injury that he will be evaluated as the week goes on. The Cards don't get back to practice until Wednesday, the heaviest work day of the week, so what happens that day will tell us a lot more about Boldin's injury than anything else. We'll keep you updated on the situation as we find out.

Boldin misses practice on Wednesday, but should play Sunday expand +

Even though Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin didn't play in the final two preseason games and has been missing practices, coach Ken Whisenhunt said the chances of Boldin playing Sunday "are very good." "I think we've got a history with 'Q'," he said. "That's why I have a good feeling about him playing."

Pyro's Take:

We believe Boldin will be playing as well, but will most likely be held back in terms of the number of snaps he takes just to make sure he's through his hamstring injury. We'll update you with more news on Quan the closer it gets to Sunday.

Boldin limited in practice Friday, questionable for Sunday expand +

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (hamstring) was in practice on Friday, but was limited just as he was the day before. Quan is listed as questionable on the injury report and will be a game-time decision on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Quan had this to say about the likeliness of him playing: "You don't want to risk getting injured and then being out four weeks," he said. "That would be stupid. It's a long season. It's only week one. I'd rather sit out game one as opposed to sitting out four or five other games. You just have to use your discretion."

Sounds like this one won't be known until right before kickoff, which is at 4:15pm ET, so it's tough to say what to do. If you have other options, you might want to start considering them because even if Quan does play, he'll probably be on a snap count.

Boldin comes through Week 1 without a setback expand +

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin did not suffer any sort of setback to his injured hamstring by playing in the Week 1 loss to the 49ers. He was reportedly sore on Monday, but there was nothing to be concerned about.

Pyro's Take:

Boldin was limited in terms of snaps on Sunday, but that won't be the case going forward. His hamstring should be fine going into next week's game against the Jaguars. Quan should be re-inserted into your lineup if you chose correctly in sitting him out this week.

Breaston's late scratch contributes to Warner's Week 1 problems expand +

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said that the unexpected late scratch of Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston took it's toll on Kurt Warner and the timing with his receivers.

Pyro's Take:

Though this assessment might be true, we still see this as a poor excuse for losing at home to the 49ers in Week 1. Warner may very well depend on timing with his receivers, but his age and paper-mache' body probably has more to do with the lackluster effort than anything else. Don't be surprised to see Matt Leinart sooner than later if this sort of stuff keeps up.

Leinart should start to warm up his arm expand +

Warner shows his age in Week 1 expand +

Coach Ken Whisenhunt said that the unexpected late scratch of Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston took it's toll on Kurt Warner and the timing with his receivers.

Pyro's Take:

Warner may very well depend on timing with his receivers, but his age and paper-mache' body probably has more to do with the lackluster effort than anything else. Don't be surprised to see Matt Leinart sooner than later if this sort of stuff keeps up.

Warner suffered "stinger" in Week 1, but should be fine expand +

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner suffered a "stinger" during last week's game that affected his throwing arm, but he should be fine for the contest against the Jags in Week 2.

Pyro's Take:

Warner is old and has been beat up over the years. He won't make it through the season at this pace, so we hope you grabbed his handcuff, Matt Leinart, in your fantasy draft. If not, you might want to start thinking of a trade offer for him.

Breaston limited at practice on Thursday expand +

After being a late scratch for the team's opening game, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston was back at practice on a limited basis on Thursday.

Pyro's Take:

Breaston is obviously still having some trouble with his knee, but don't cut ties with him just yet. Stash him away on your bench until he's fully ready to make an fantasy impact again.

Boldin likely to be limited at practice for awhile expand +

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin was limited at practice again on Thursday. His situation is likely to stay that way until his hamstring is fully healed.

Pyro's Take:

Boldin will almost certainly play again this week, but his snaps will probably be monitored once again. If you have a deep fantasy WR corps, we'd suggest keeping Quan shelved for another week.

Boldin and Breaston both active for the Cards expand +

Arizona Cardinals wide receivers Anquan Boldin and Steve Breaston have both been declared active for the game against the Jaguars today.

Pyro's Take:

Boldin being active was expected, but Breaston was 50-50 all week. Boldin should be a safe fantasy play this week, but Breaston should still be kept on your bench until the Cards get him rolling.

Warner re-aggravates throwing shoulder in win expand +

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner was pulled from the game on Sunday by coach Ken Whisenhunt because Warner informed him that he had re-aggravated a right shoulder injury.

Pyro's Take:

Kurt should be fine going into next week's game against the Colts. If the game were closer on Sunday, Warner would have stayed in, so it's probably not much to worry about. Keep him in your fantasy lineup until informed otherwise.

Hightower leading the league in targets out of the backfield expand +

Arizona Cardinals running back Tim Hightower leads the NFL in targets out of the backfield with 17 thus far, while Darren Sproles comes in a close second with 16.

Pyro's Take:

With rookie RB Beanie Wells still learning the ropes in Arizona, the Cardinals have been using Hightower in whatever capacity they can. He finished 21st last year in targets despite limited playing time, so we expect more of the same going forward in 2009.

Boldin back practicing in full expand +

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (hamstring) was back at practice on Wednesday running drills at full strength.

Pyro's Take:

Quan looked pretty good last week against the Jags catching 8 balls for 69 yards. His full participation at practice today means you no longer have to worry about whether he should be in your fantasy lineup or not. He should.

Breaston not practicing on Wednesday expand +

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) missed practice on Wednesday, most likely just to rest his injured knee one more day.

Pyro's Take:

Breaston, who was active for the game last week, caught all five balls thrown his way en route to leading the team with 83 yards. He's still not quite there yet, so hold off on putting him in as your fantasy WR3 for now.

Warner at practice without limitations Wednesday expand +

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner went through practice on Monday without any limitations due to continued problems with a stinger to his throwing arm.

Pyro's Take:

Warner was supposedly pulled from the game last Sunday after complaining that his arm was bothering him. True or not, he seems fine now, so have no fear starting him this upcoming fantasy week.

Breaston back at practice on Thursday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was back at practice on Thursday, though working in a limited fashion.

Pyro's Take:

We'll see how long the Third Nipple lasts this time. He played last week, so he should be fine, but we wouldn't suggest starting him on your fantasy team this week against a tough Indy pass D.

Breaston listed as questionable for Sunday's game expand +

Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston is listed as questionable on the team's injury report after going through a limited practice on Friday.

Pyro's Take:

We wouldn't suggest playing Breaston against a stingy Indy pass D anyway. Make sure you stash him on your fantasy bench for the week.

Boldin and Breaston could sure use the Bye Week expand +

When Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt was asked about wide receiver Anquan Boldin's injury and the bye week, Ken said, "'Q' has battled his tail off, especially since that first game where he was about 80 percent. He's been working through it and I've been very impressed with that. He's looking better and better."

Pyro's Take:

Boldin and fellow receiver Steve Breaston both could use the break to completely heal from their injuries. When the two come back in Week 5, look for some fantasy football goodness coming your way.

Warner practices in full during bye week expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner practiced in full pads during the Cards bye week and looks to be ready to go for the game against the Texans on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Warner has suffered a couple of stingers so far this season that were affecting his throwing arm, but that seems to be behind him now. Kurt should be a decent QB1 fantasy football play this weekend against a below-average Houston D.

Breaston still questionable for Sunday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) is listed as questionable on the team's injury report as he was limited in practice all week.

Pyro's Take:

Breaston could be a decent WR3 play for your fantasy football team this Sunday if he plays, so check back Sunday to what his status is for the game against the Texans.

Hightower to have reduced role? expand +

Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt stated on Monday that he plans on getting running back Beanie Wells more involved the team's three-receiver offense as the season progresses.

Pyro's Take:

Beanie has thus far been used solely as a rushing RB, making it obvious what the team plans to do when he's in there. The time he missed during training camp is a large contributor to this. Wells is just a handcuff to Tim Hightower on your fantasy football team at this point.

Beanie Wells to be included in more three-receiver sets expand +

Arizona coach Ken Whisenhunt stated on Monday that he plans on getting running back Beanie Wells more involved the team's three-receiver offense as the season progresses.

Pyro's Take:

Beanie has thus far been used solely as a rushing RB, making it obvious what the team plans to do when he's in there. The time he missed during training camp is a large contributor to this. Wells is just a handcuff to Tim Hightower on your fantasy football team at this point.

Breaston limited on Wednesday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was limited in practice on Wednesday.

Pyro's Take:

When The Third Nipple gets in the game, he produces, but he's been battling this knee injury of his all year so it's been hard to find the right time to get him into starting fantasy football lineups.

Breaston limited again on Thursday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was limited again at practice on Thursday.

Pyro's Take:

Breaston has been getting plenty of rest so he can play on Sundays, and it seems to have been working as he's averaged 81 yards on 5.3 catches the past three games. He's a decent WR3 for your fantasy football team this weekend.

Team getting comfortable with Baby Beanie expand +

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said on Friday that he is getting more comfortable with rookie Beanie Wells in the backfield. Wells, who missed a large chunk of training camp with an ankle injury, said the first month of pro ball has been "a humbling experience" and that "I just have to wait my time, and they (coaches) know when I'm ready".

Pyro's Take:

It's not Beanie's running ability that's the problem. It's that he can't block, can't catch, and can't hold onto the ball. The Cards will be working him into the offense more, however, so keep him on your fantasy football bench and see if his value goes up in the near future.

Boldin's ankle X-rays negative expand +

X-rays taken of Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin's ankle came back negative, which means his ankle is merely sprained.

Pyro's Take:

Coach Ken Whisenhunt insists that he took 'Quan out of Sunday's game to ensure that he would play against the Giants next week, so check back later to see if his fantasy football status is a go.

Breaston to start on Sunday if 'Quan can't go expand +

Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) did not practice with the team on Wednesday and told the media that “it probably will be a game-time decision (on Sunday).”

Pyro's Take:

Boldin sprained his ankle in the first half last week against Seattle and barely played in the second half. If Boldin can't go, WR Steve Breaston would start and be bumped up to a real nice WR2 fantasy football play on Sunday.

Urban to take WR3 spot if Boldin can't go Sunday expand +

Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) did not practice with the team on Wednesday and told the media that “it probably will be a game-time decision (on Sunday).”

Pyro's Take:

If Boldin can't go, WR Steve Breaston would start and be bumped up to a real nice WR2 fantasy football play on Sunday. Likewise, Jerheme Urban would nab the WR3 spot and be a decent play for your fantasy team as well.

Boldin says he'll be a game-time decision Sunday expand +

Cardinals receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) did not practice with the team on Wednesday and told the media that “it probably will be a game-time decision (on Sunday).”

Pyro's Take:

Boldin sprained his ankle in the first half last week against Seattle and barely played in the second half. If Boldin can't go, WR Steve Breaston would start and be bumped up to a real nice WR2 fantasy football play on Sunday.

Breaston limited in practice as usual expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was limited in practice Wednesday as usual.

Pyro's Take:

He's been limited all year, yet his stats in games keep climbing. He might get the start this Sunday if Boldin can't go, so be sure to get him in your fantasy football lineup if that happens.

Beanie Wells limited in practice Wednesday expand +

Cardinals rookie running back Beanie Wells was limited at practice today due to a hip injury.

Pyro's Take:

This is the first we've heard of any sort of injury to the rook, so our guess is that it's not serious. However, he can't be started on your fantasy football team this weekend against a Giants D looking for some payback.

Boldin misses practice again on Thursday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) missed a second straight practice on Thursday and his status for this weekend's game against the Giants is still up in the air.

Pyro's Take:

If Boldin goes, we'd have to say start him on your fantasy football team after seeing what a good passing team (Saints) did to the Giants last week. Stay tuned and we'll let you know his situation as it unfolds.

Beanie Wells limited again at practice expand +

Cardinals rookie running back Chris "Beanie" Wells (hip) was limited at practice again on Thursday.

Pyro's Take:

Wells will most likely play on Sunday, but being against the Giants, we can't in our right mind tell you to start him at any position on your fantasy football team this weekend.

Breaston limited again on Thursday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was limited for the second straight day at practice on Thursday.

Pyro's Take:

Do we even need to report this anymore? It's been the same story with the Third Nipple all year, and he keeps playing and producing on Sundays. Start him on your fantasy football team this weekend if you have him.

Boldin questionable after limited practice Friday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) returned to a limited practice on Friday and is being listed as questionable on the team's Week 7 injury report. “I didn’t think he’d move around as well as he did,” coach Ken Whisenhunt said.

Pyro's Take:

It's still up in the air whether Boldin will play or not, so if you have another option on your fantasy football team, we'd go with that. If not, 'Quan has played hurt before, so you're not taking as big of a chance a you would be with, say, Kevin Curtis.

Breaston limited again, but will play Sunday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was limited again in practice on Friday, but is listed as probable on the team's injury report and will play on Sunday against the Giants.

Pyro's Take:

This has become a weekly occurrence for Stevie. He's a solid fantasy football play this weekend, especially if Anquan Boldin doesn't go, so make sure you get him in your lineup if you have him.

Beanie questionable on injury report expand +

Cardinals rookie running back Beanie Wells (hip) is listed as questionable on the team's injury report after being limited in practice all week.

Pyro's Take:

Even if Wells plays, he shouldn't be in your fantasy football lineup this week against a tough and pissed off Giants defense.

Boldin admits to having "high" ankle sprain expand +

What was originally thought to be a normal ankle sprain, Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin now admits to having the more serious "high" ankle sprain and was initially told he'd miss three or four weeks due to the injury.

Pyro's Take:

"I'm amazed at how tough Anquan is and how quickly he recovers from things," coach Ken Whisenhunt said.
Our sentiments exactly. 'Quan is about as tough as they come, so we wouldn't put it past him playing this Sunday. If he does, however, he may be limited, so Steve Breaston might be your better fantasy football option this week.

Boldin "looks like a go" says Peter King expand +

According to Sports Illustrated writer Peter King, Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) "looks like a go" despite his questionable listing on the team's injury report.

Pyro's Take:

It wouldn't shock us to see 'Quan gut it out for the big game against the Giants on Sunday night, but we fear he'll still be limited in one form or another. If you have another option on your fantasy team, we'd advise going with that this week.

Boldin comes out of Sunday's game just fine expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) did not suffer any setbacks to his high ankle sprain during the game Sunday night and is expected to play in Week 8 according to coach Ken Whisenhunt.

Pyro's Take:

Whisenhunt also said that he expects Boldin to work more at practice this week. Our advice: Be smart Whiz. Just let the guy rest and be ready for the game. He's earned it.
Keep him in your starting fantasy football lineup until further notice.

Boldin limited on Wednesday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) was limited at practice on Wednesday as expected.

Pyro's Take:

Boldin supposedly got through last week's game without aggravating his injury, so his limitations on Wednesday were likely just a precaution. Keep 'Quan in your fantasy football lineup until otherwise notified.

Breaston limited as usual expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was limited as usual in practice on Wednesday.

Pyro's Take:

Broken record. He'll play Sunday, but doesn't have the greatest of match-ups with the NFL's No. 1 rated pass D coming to town in Carolina. He would be a WR3 on your fantasy football team at best if you have no other options.

Hightower's run as starter close to an end expand +

When asked if running back Beanie Wells will start this Sunday, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said "It's not going to happen yet", but also said "when he does get the hot hand... we're going to use him more and more."

Pyro's Take:

Wells will eventually overtake Tim Hightower as the starter, and is still likely to get more touches this week as well. You can start getting the rookie into your fantasy football lineup now as it seems Beanie is finally learning the ropes.

Beanie won't start yet, but will see more carries expand +

When asked if running back Beanie Wells will start this Sunday, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said "It's not going to happen yet", but also said "when he does get the hot hand... we're going to use him more and more."

Pyro's Take:

Wells will eventually overtake Tim Hightower as the starter, and is still likely to get more touches this week as well. You can start getting the rookie into your fantasy football lineup now as it seems Beanie is finally learning the ropes.

Boldin pacing himself, limited at practice again expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) was limited in practice on Thursday in an effort to make sure he's full strength for the game against the Panthers this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

'Quan looks like he'll be a go for this Sunday, but keep checking back to make sure you can get him into your fantasy football lineup.

Breaston limited as usual Thursday expand +

Cardinals WR3 Steve Breaston (knee) was limited as usual at practice on Thursday.

Pyro's Take:

Such is the life of the Third Nipple... He'll be playing on Sunday and could be used as a WR3 on your fantasy football team if necessary.

Boldin questionable after limited practice expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) went through a limited practice on Friday and is listed on the injury report as questionable. However, coach Ken Whisenhunt said that Boldin "looks better".

Pyro's Take:

'Quan should be able to play, and will probably play the same amount as last week, which should be fine to get him in your fantasy football lineup this weekend.

Dwayne Jarrett to get the start on Sunday expand +

With Panthers wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad (knee) being ruled out for the Week 8 match-up against the Cardinals, Dwayne Jarrett will take his place in the starting lineup opposite Steve Smith.

Pyro's Take:

Jarrett has been a real disappointment for the Panthers since they drafted him a couple years ago. The Cardinals have one of the more porous pass defenses in the NFL, so if Jarrett can't do anything in his chance to start this Sunday, expect Carolina to take a good look at his future with the team in the off-season.

Muhsin ruled out for Week 8 expand +

Panthers wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad (knee) has been ruled out for the Week 8 match-up against the Cardinals. Dwayne Jarrett will take his place in the starting lineup opposite Steve Smith.

Pyro's Take:

Muhsin is getting a little old, and though he's normally a rock and plays pretty much every game, you can't beat father time and mother nature. Jarrett isn't really worth starting unless you play in a super-deep fantasy football league.

Breaston "probable" on injury report expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was limited at practice as usual on Friday and is being listed as probable on the team's injury report.

Pyro's Take:

Do coaches put these sorts of things out there (questionable/probable listings) to mess with other coaches, or to mess with fantasy football partakers? Cause really, we all know Breaston is going to play. However, you might want to sit him this week against the No. 1 ranked pass D in the league.

Boldin vows to play... if he can expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin said on Monday that he re-aggravated his ankle injury on Sunday, but it doesn't feel worse than before and won't stop him from playing. "If I'm good enough to play, I'm going to play," he said. "If I'm able to run, I'm going to play football."

Pyro's Take:

Well, though we admire the sound of his courageousness, if you're good enough to go and can run, isn't that what you are paid millions to do? Play football?
Boldin's injuries do seem to have taken a toll on the guy though, as his stats this year don't even come close to approaching his norm. Keep him as a fantasy football WR3 based on his past, but don't expect too much with those lingering problems holding him back.

Delhomme okay after release from hospital expand +

Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme had a CT scan after being nailed in the chest by Cardinals defensive tackle Darnell Dockett, but was cleared by the doctors to fly home with the team after the win. When asked if he would play next week, Delhomme responded with a simple “Oh yeah.”

Pyro's Take:

Delhomme made it through his first game of the year without tossing an INT, but he did only throw the ball 14 times for 90 yards on the day as the running game was in full force (270 yards). He also made his first TD pass to Steve Smith in the game as well.
It should go without saying, but Jake is not to be picked up for your fantasy football team because of this game.

Coach Whisenhunt considering benching Boldin expand +

When asked on Tuesday is he has considered benching wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) to get him to 100 percent, Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said, "That is certainly something we are going to have to consider because you don't want to go through the rest of the season with Anquan only being able to play a half or three quarters before his ankle flares up."

Pyro's Take:

Whisenhunt also went on to say this:
"I can't tell you how impressed I am with Anquan's toughness and... his desire to compete. That's a big part of our football team. That's something you lose if you try to rest him."
Check back throughout the week to see what Whizzy does with his star receiver and whether you can get him into your fantasy football lineup on Sunday or not.

Hester misses second straight practice expand +

Bears wide receiver Devin Hester missed a second straight practice on Thursday nursing a sprained right ankle, but said that he will be out on the field come Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Look for Devin to get a little work in on Friday and give it a go on Sunday. He's got a nice match-up at home against the Cardinals pass D, but Hester has been a much better player on the road, so if you have an equal option on your fantasy football bench, give it a thought.

Boldin sits out again on Thursday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) sat out practice again on Thursday and looks to be a game-time decision this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

It's looking more and more like coach Ken Whisenhunt will rest Boldin for a week in the hopes his health returns. It would be the smart move at this point in the season, but not so good for fantasy football owners. Check back Sunday morning to see if you can get him in your lineup or not.

Breaston limited, though may start Sunday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was limited as usual on Thursday, but with fellow WR Anquan Boldin hobbled and possibly sitting this weekend, Breaston may be moved into the starting lineup opposite Larry Fitzgerald.

Pyro's Take:

The Third Nipple will play, but the question remains whether he will start or not. Boldin may end up being a game-time decision, so Breaston's value as a WR2 or WR3 on your fantasy football team might not be known until just prior to kickoff. Check back Sunday morning to be sure.

Steve Breaston limited Friday as usual expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was limited as usual on Friday and is listed as probable on the team's Week 9 injury report.

Pyro's Take:

He'll play, but the question is, will he start? Boldin's availability is still up in the air, so check back Sunday to see if Breaston is merely a WR3/flex option or a legit WR2 on your fantasy football team this weekend.

Boldin out versus the Bears today expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) is inactive for the game against the Bears today.

Pyro's Take:

We kind of expected the Cards to hold him out for a game to see if they can get him healthy. Get him out of your starting fantasy football lineup immediately if you weren't anticipating the deactivation of the Cards WR2.

Greg Olsen active and ready to go expand +

Bears tight end Greg Olsen (ankle) is active and ready to make his usual start against the Cardinals today.

Pyro's Take:

Feel free to get Olsen in your starting fantasy football lineup today as the Bears will likely be passing the ball a bunch with that Cardinals stout rush D staring them down all day long.

Boldin practices in full on Wednesday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle) participated in a full practice on Wednesday after being inactive for the game last Sunday against the Bears.

Pyro's Take:

Guess the coaches were right for deactivating him, eh? After the stink that Boldin put up, the Cardinals ended up winning the game and Boldin was able to practice in full on Wednesday for the first time in awhile. Boldin should start Sunday, both in real life and on your fantasy football team.

Hasselbeck limited on Wednesday expand +

Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck (shoulder, ribs) was limited in practice on Wednesday, but coach Jim Mora said that he should start Sunday against the Cardinals.

Pyro's Take:

The Cardinals can be beat through the air, so Hasselbeck wouldn't be a bad QB2 play on your fantasy football team this week. Check back during the week to make sure he's completely healthy.

Breaston limited as usual expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was limited as usual at practice on Wednesday.

Pyro's Take:

He's fine, he's playing, he's a decent WR3 with Boldin healthy again. 'Nuff said.

Beanie still waiting his turn expand +

According to Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, running back Tim Hightower will remain the team's starter for the time being. When asked about the situation, Whisenhunt said: "That's an issue that if it comes, it comes. We've always said when we feel it's time to make a change with those things, we'll do it, if that's deserved. We're not going to make Beanie (Wells) the starter just to make Beanie the starter.

Pyro's Take:

Whisenhunt also says that he believes the rotation they have going right now has been effective, so there's no reason to change it. He may be right, but Wells gives them an explosive dimension Hightower doesn't. Wells should eventually take over, but at this point, he's still just a low-end RB2 on your fantasy football team.

Hightower still looks like the starter... for now expand +

Breaston limited as usual Wednesday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was limited at practice as usual on Wednesday.

Pyro's Take:

Per usual, Breaston will play on Sunday and is a decent WR3 on your fantasy football team.

Breaston limited Friday, listed as probable expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Steve Breaston (knee) was limited at practice for the third straight day and is listed as probable on the team's Week 11 injury report.

Pyro's Take:

Breaston will play as usual, and also as usual, will be a fine WR3 play with upside for your fantasy football team this Sunday.

Warner should be fine after mild concusion expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner didn't play for the rest of the game after leaving late in the first half with a mild concussion. There was no memory loss according to Warner, and though he could have come back into the game, the coaches thought it would be best for him to sit as a precaution.

Pyro's Take:

Warner will likely have to pass a few tests before being given the go-ahead to start next Sunday, but no worries, he'll be playing. He's a must-start for your fantasy football team going up against the 32nd ranked Titans pass D in Week 12.

Warner not likely to be cleared until late in the week expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner likely won't be cleared to play next Sunday until late in the week, and might end up a game-time decision as the Cards wait for his neurological test results. Warner also said on Monday that though he felt better, he still wasn't 100 percent.

Pyro's Take:

The Cards would have to wait a few days for Warner to be without concussion symptoms before being able to clear him for contact, but we fully expect him to start on Sunday. The Titans pass D has improved the past few weeks, but Warner would still be a must-start for your fantasy football team if he plays this weekend. Check back with us throughout the week to make sure you can safely get him in your lineup.

Warner out on the field for practice Wednesday expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner (mild concussion) was out on the field for the beginning of practice today. Whether he will be limited or have a full practice will be known later on today.

Pyro's Take:

Warner seems to be just fine, and if he's out on the practice field this early in the week, there's almost no doubt he'll play. He has a nice match-up this week against the Titans, so check with us to make sure you can start him on your fantasy football team this weekend.

Warner still doing all the drills in practice Thursday expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner (mild concussion) went through a full practice again on Thursday and is almost 100 percent assured of making his normal start this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

It sure looks like Warner will be in there against the Titans on Sunday, but you might want to check back with us before gluing him into your fantasy football lineup this weekend. Concussions have a tendency to involve setbacks, so wait as long as you can before committing yourself to the old man.

Warner practices again, expects to play Sunday expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner (mild concussion) practiced in full again on Friday and says he feels better now than he did all week. He's listed as questionable on the injury report, but fully expects to play this Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Warner's neck has been sore all week, but that shouldn't stop him from playing or stop you from starting him on your fantasy football team against a beatable Titans secondary. Check back just to make sure he's a go this weekend.

Leinart could get the start today expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner woke up Sunday with a sore neck and is now in danger of missing the game against the Titans later today. Another source, however, says that Warner still could play.

Pyro's Take:

The team is preparing as if Matt Leinart will start, so if you were planning on using Warner on your fantasy football team today, you might want to look in another direction.

Warner wakes up Sunday with sore neck expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner woke up Sunday with a sore neck and is now in danger of missing the game against the Titans later today. Another source, however, says that Warner still could play.

Pyro's Take:

The team is preparing as if Matt Leinart will start, so if you were planning on using Warner on your fantasy football team today, you might want to look in another direction.

Leinart to start for the Cards today expand +

As we reported earlier, Kurt Warner (neck) is indeed inactive for the game against the Titans today. Matt Leinart will get the start in his place.

Pyro's Take:

Warner woke up with a sore neck today, so the Cardinals are going to side with caution here and sit the old man down for a game. Get him out of your fantasy football lineup if you can and throw in Leinart as he has a nice match-up against a mediocre Titans secondary.

Warner inactive for Sunday's game expand +

As we reported earlier, Kurt Warner (neck) is indeed inactive for the game against the Titans today. Matt Leinart will get the start in his place.

Pyro's Take:

Warner woke up with a sore neck today, so the Cardinals are going to side with caution here and sit the old man down for a game. Get him out of your fantasy football lineup if you can and throw in Leinart as he has a nice match-up against a mediocre Titans secondary.

Warner was experiencing sensitivity to light Sunday expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner sat out the loss to the Titans yesterday because he was experiencing sensitivity to light on Sunday morning. This sort of thing is a symptom of the mild concussion he suffered last week, so both he and the coaches thought it would be best to rest him for at least this one game.

Pyro's Take:

This was probably the right move to make, though Warner likely would have led the team to victory on Sunday. We'll assume that Kurt will be ready to face the Vikings next weekend, but keep tabs on our newsbreakers to make sure you can get him in your fantasy football lineup.

Warner to seek help with vision problems expand +

Arizona quarterback Kurt Warner (concussion) said he plans to see an ophthalmologist this week about the problems he is still experiencing with his vision.
"It's not a visual issue where I'm foggy, where I can't see or I can't focus on something," he said, "but there's a fogginess that's kind of in and behind my eyes, or on top of my eyes. It's something that's just not right. It's just not normal."

Pyro's Take:

Warner also said that he plans on starting next Sunday night against the Vikings, but that he's "got to take it one day at a time."
Check back throughout the week to see if you can get him back in your fantasy football lineup for Week 13.

Hightower dealing with thumb injury expand +

Cardinals running back Tim Hightower came away from the Week 12 loss with an injury to his thumb. There has been no news on whether the injury would prevent him from playing next weekend or even hinder him in the slightest.

Pyro's Take:

Hightower is second in the NFL in both receptions and RB targets, so a thumb injury could definitely have an impact on his game. We'll keep you updated as to whether this will affect his fantasy football value or not.

Warner returns to limited practice today expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner (concussion) returned to a limited practice on Wednesday. He also said that though he plans on playing this Sunday night against the Vikings, he didn't want to make any definitive statements.

Pyro's Take:

Warner also said that everything was fine with his eyes after his doctor appointment Monday and that he is feeling much better now that his "fogginess" was gone.
If he plays Sunday, which he should, he'll be a nice QB1 for your fantasy football team.

Hightower limited in practice today expand +

Cardinals running back Tim Hightower (thumb) was limited in practice today though he's still expected to play this Sunday night against the Vikings.

Pyro's Take:

Hightower probably shouldn't be used on your fantasy football team this Sunday anyway as he goes up against a tough-as-nails Vikings rush D.

Shiancoe limited with rib injury expand +

Vikings tight end Visanthe Shiancoe (ribs) was limited in practice today but should be able to play against the Cardinals on Sunday night.

Pyro's Take:

Visanthe has climbed to TE1 status for your fantasy football team this year, especially with Owen Daniels and Chris Cooley being out for the year. Make sure you play him this weekend.

Rob Bironas held out of practice Wednesday expand +

Titans kicker Rob Bironas was missing from practice on Wednesday due to a supposed ankle injury.

Pyro's Take:

This is the first we've heard of the injury, as Bironas was in the game to kick the last second extra point against the Cardinals last weekend. We'll keep you updated on the situation as Rob has become a starting kicker for your fantasy football team the last month or so.

Leinart could still get the start on Sunday expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner (concussion) practiced in full on Thursday but was still splitting snaps with backup QB Matt Leinart. Coach Ken Whisenhunt also said that his choice for a starter on Sunday could be a game-time decision.

Pyro's Take:

We're guessing that Kurt will be ready to go by game-time, but fantasy football owners might want not want to take the chance and go with their backup QB for this week. Check back with us for further updates on the situation.

Warner practices again, but still splitting snaps expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner (concussion) practiced in full on Thursday but was still splitting snaps with backup QB Matt Leinart. Coach Ken Whisenhunt also said that his choice for a starter on Sunday could be a game-time decision.

Pyro's Take:

We're guessing that Kurt will be ready to go by game-time, but fantasy football owners might want not want to take the chance and go with their backup QB for this week. Check back with us for further updates on the situation.

Hightower limited again expand +

Cardinals running back Tim Hightower (thumb) was limited again on Thursday, though he is fully expected to play on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

We're pretty sure Hightower will play, but he's barely worth a flex on your fantasy football team considering his injury, the timeshare with Beanie Wells, and the Vikings 2nd ranked rush D.

Leinart still a possibility to start Sunday night expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner (concussion) split the snaps with Matt Leinart at practice again on Friday. Warner is being listed as questionable on the team's injury report and a decision on who will start isn't likely to be made until game-time.

Pyro's Take:

We're unsure what to make of this situation, as Warner has said that his concussion symptoms have definitely improved this week, but then again, he held himself out last week after saying the same thing. Warner is obviously a better fantasy football QB than Leinart, but without knowing until game-time which one of them will be starting Sunday night, we'd have to recommend you look elsewhere on your bench for your own starting QB.

Warner splits reps again on Friday expand +

Peterson practices all week, ready for Sunday expand +

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson (ankle) practiced in full all week and is ready to go against the Cardinals on Sunday night.

Pyro's Take:

Besides having a heavy foot (got a speeding ticket last week for going 109 mph in a 55-mph zone), there's nothing else wrong with Purple Jesus. Get the fantasy football deity into your lineup this weekend.

Word is that Warner will start tonight expand +

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner (concussion) will be starting against the Vikings tonight.

Pyro's Take:

Schefter received a text saying: "Kurt (Warner) is playing tonight. He is being himself again. It's like the funk cloud around him is gone."
Feel free to start him on your fantasy football today due to this news.

Warner limping after Sunday night win expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner was seen walking around with a significant limp after the game Sunday night due to a hit he took to his hip.

Pyro's Take:

The Cardinals don't play until Monday night next week, so Kurt will have an extra day of rest to heal up. Check back with us on the situation as Warner will be a great QB1 on your fantasy football team in Week 14 as the Cards play a beatable 49ers secondary.

Warner fine, expects to play Sunday expand +

Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner (hip) said he is fine and that he expects to play Monday night against the 49ers.

Pyro's Take:

Warner practiced today and said he wasn't hampered at all from the hip pointer, so we expect him to play Monday night as well. He's a sure-fire QB1 on your fantasy football team this weekend.

Crabtree suffers hip contusion, should be fine expand +

In the game against the Cardinals on Monday night, 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree sustained a hip contusion but returned to finish the game.

Pyro's Take:

Crabby is just fine and shouldn't miss any practice time this week. He's been getting a lot of targets lately and has decent fantasy playoff matchups against Philly in Week 15 and Detroit in Week 16. Think about using him as a WR3 for your team these next couple of games.

Cards optimistic Fitz will be just fine expand +

Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt said on Tuesday morning that there was no definitive news on the knee injury wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald suffered Monday night, but mentioned that the doctors cleared him to continue playing and that Fitz would have an MRI today just to be sure everything was okay.

Pyro's Take:

If the doctors cleared him 15 minutes after he suffered the injury, we tend to believe he'll be just fine. We expect him to miss some practice time this week, but our guess is he'll be playing in Week 15 against the Lions. Check back to be sure you can get him in your fantasy lineup for the playoffs.

Rackers groin injury of some concern expand +

Cardinals kicker Neil Rackers has a sore groin that has been affecting the distance on his kickoffs, and the coaches are starting to take notice.

Pyro's Take:

He did make a 48-yard field goal in the 3rd quarter, but he also missed an extra point last night. The extra point, however, had nothing to do with his injury. If Rackers doesn't get over the soreness soon, look for the Cards to start shopping around for a kickoff specialist going into the playoffs.

Fitz's MRI reveals no significant damage expand +

The Cardinals released a statement regarding the MRI taken on wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald today:
“He had an MRI today that revealed a bone contusion and right knee sprain. However the knee is stable and there isn’t any more significant damage. He’ll be evaluated as the week progresses.”

Pyro's Take:

Fitz has also tweeted a couple of times that he is just fine and expects to practice on Wednesday. We'll keep you updated as more info comes along, but for now, it seems safe to keep the WR1 in your fantasy football lineup for this weekend.

Stafford unlikely for Sunday's game expand +

According to Lions coach Jim Schwartz, quarterback Matthew Stafford (shoulder) is unlikely to play in the Week 15 matchup with the Cardinals.
“He’s still making progress,” Schwartz said. “He’s getting a little better, but he’s still a ways away.”

Pyro's Take:

Stafford sat out practice on Wednesday with his separated left shoulder wrapped, so it doesn't look good for the rookie QB. He wouldn't have been worth consideration for your fantasy playoffs anyway.

Fitz limited in practice, but should play Sunday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald (knee) was limited in practice on Wednesday, but believes he will be out on the field this weekend against the Lions.

Pyro's Take:

Fitz also says that even though his MCL is sprained, it's the bone contusion that's causing him more pain. As long as he progresses throughout the week, he should have no trouble playing on Sunday and will definitely be a WR1 for your fantasy football team going up against the Lions.

Rackers not expected to play in Week 15 expand +

The Arizona Cardinals signed kicker Mike Nugent this week to replace the injured Neil Rackers (groin) should he not be able to go this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

It doesn't look like Rackers will play, so sit him on your fantasy bench and hope he can make it back next week. Nugent isn't nearly as accurate as Rackers, so try to look elsewhere for a kicker to play on your fantasy football team this Sunday.

Fitzgerald ups his reps, likely to play Sunday expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald (knee) did more at practice today than earlier in the week and though he is listed as questionable for Sunday, he says there is no doubt he'll be out there playing against the Lions.

Pyro's Take:

Fitz should be able to give it a go this weekend, so make sure you get him in your fantasy lineup as he has a great matchup against the lowly Lions.

Larry Fitz ready to give it a go expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is active for the game against the Lions today.

Pyro's Take:

Fitz comes through on his promise as usual. He is, of course, a must-start on your fantasy team against a Lions defense that couldn't stop a mouse from crossing the field if they tried.

Calvin Johnson active against Cards expand +

Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson has been declared active for today's game against the Cardinals and will start as usual.

Pyro's Take:

Megatron should have a decent game despite the big Port-O-Potty being under center instead of Stafford today. Make sure he's in your starting fantasy lineup.

Neil Rackers inactive as expected expand +

Cardinals kicker Neil Rackers was declared inactive by the team today. Mike Nugent will get the kicking duties in his place against the Lions.

Pyro's Take:

If you're in need of a kicker for your fantasy team this week, Nugent wouldn't be a bad call. The Cards should be able to score at will and the game is indoors, so you could definitely do worse.

Stafford inactive as expected expand +

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford (shoulder) is inactive for the game against the Cardinals today as expected. Daunte Culpepper will get the start in his place.

Pyro's Take:

Do NOT pick up Culpepper and use him on your fantasy team under any circumstances. We could very easily see Drew Stanton in the second half today as the big Port-O-Potty will likely stink up the Ford Field dome as usual.

Culpepper gets the nod once again expand +

Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford (shoulder) is inactive for the game against the Cardinals today as expected. Daunte Culpepper will get the start in his place.

Pyro's Take:

Do NOT pick up Culpepper and use him on your fantasy team under any circumstances. We could very easily see Drew Stanton in the second half today as the big Port-O-Potty will likely stink up the Ford Field dome as usual.

Fitz's elbow injury merely a bruise expand +

According to Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt, the elbow injury sustained by wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald is merely a contusion and will have no affect on his practice or playing time going forward.

Pyro's Take:

The Cardinals will likely be resting their starters at least a bit this coming weekend, so if Fitz doesn't play, it will have nothing to do with this injury. Keep an eye out this week for what Whiz plans on doing with his starters in Week 17 against the Pack.

Not looking good for Anquan Boldin expand +

Jason La Canfora of NFL.com says that he has information from a source close to the situation that Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin is "highly, highly unlikely to play in Sunday’s wild-card game against the Green Bay Packers" this Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

This sounds about right to us, as it hasn't looked good for Boldin all week long. He's listed as questionable, and will be checked out right before game time, but the Cards aren't likely to sacrifice the roster spot if his leg doesn't look better than 75 percent.

Boldin inactive for Wild Card game vs. Packers expand +

The Arizona Cardinals have declared wide receiver Anquan Boldin inactive for the playoff game against the Packers today.

Pyro's Take:

If Boldin could have played, we're sure he would have. He's one of the toughest WRs in the game and doesn't like to let his teammates down. The Packers were looking strong coming into the game before this news, and now might even have the upper hand on the Cards without 'Quan.

Beanie to play a larger part in offense Saturday? expand +

After going for 91 yards on 14 carries in the win against the Packers on Sunday, Cardinals running back Beanie Wells could be in line for some extra duty against the Saints this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

The Cardinals are 7-1 when Beanie rushes for more than 50 yards in a game, and we fully expect the Cards to try and slow things down a bit against the high-flying Saints offense by playing a little ball-control with Beanie. Expect a nice game out of the rookie on Saturday.

Boldin misses final practice before Saturday game expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle, knee) missed the final practice of the week today and will officially be a game-time decision come Saturday.

Pyro's Take:

'Quan will get out there before the game to test out his ankle and knee, but it's not looking good for the big wideout. If he can go, you know he will, but Steve Breaston and Early Doucet are a good bet to see a bunch of playing time vs. the Saints this weekend.

Saints sign former starting RB Deuce McAllister expand +

The New Orleans Saints re-signed running back Deuce McAllister on Friday. Coach Sean Payton has already confirmed that the franchise's all-time leading rusher will be inactive for the playoff game on Saturday against the Cardinals.

Pyro's Take:

McAllister was always a team leader and a great guy to have in the locker room, which is part of the reason why the Saints decided to sign him now. Deuce will lead the team out of the tunnel, which will certainly get the crowd going even nuttier than they would have been going anyway. However, the 31-year old isn't likely to be active for the Saints run through the playoffs.

Boldin practices on limited basis expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Anquan Boldin (ankle, knee) returned to a limited practice on Friday and is being listed as questionable on the team's injury report.

Pyro's Take:

The Cards are practicing as if 'Quan is not going to be able to go on Saturday, and coach Ken Whisenhunt has already stated that even if he does get out there, he'll likely be limited in the number of snaps he plays. Early Doucet and Steve Breaston should see some serious action for a second week in a row.

Bengals Marvin Lewis named '09 NFL Coach of the Year expand +

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was named the 2009 NFL Coach of the Year by the Associated Press on Saturday. Lewis earned 20.5 votes out of 50, while the Saints Sean Payton garnered 11.5 and the Chargers Norv Turner took 9 votes.

Pyro's Take:

There were a bunch of good candidates this year, from the aforementioned Lewis, Payton, and Turner, to the Colts Jim Caldwell, Eagles Andy Reid, Cardinals Ken Whisenhunt, and Jets Rex Ryan. With all the tragedy that could have crippled his team, not to mention the injuries and scheme adjustments the team went through, Marvin Lewis was still able to lead the Bengals to an AFC North title and the playoffs with a record of 10-6. This was a very much deserved and earned award by Coach Lewis.

Meachem probable with ankle problem expand +

After Saints wide receiver Robert Meachem (ankle) missed practice on Wednesday, he came back on Thursday but was limited the rest of the week. The team has him listed as probable for the game against the Vikings on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Meachem will play, but how much of a factor he will be is unknown at this point. He didn't do much during the Saints blowout of the Cardinals last week, and we expect Lance Moore to continue to steal reps from Meachem again on Sunday.

Warner set to hang 'em up? expand +

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN and a source close to the team, the Arizona Cardinals have scheduled a press conference for Friday so that quarterback Kurt Warner can address the questions of whether or not he plans to retire.

Pyro's Take:

If this really is the end for the former grocery store shelf-stocker, it's been quite a ride and a truly inspirational story. All the way from working for $5.50/hr. at the local Hy-Vee to becoming a 4-time NFL Pro Bowl QB, Warner ended up winning two league MVP awards and one Super Bowl with his former team, the St. Louis Rams. He is also one of just two QBs all-time to throw 100 TD passes for two different franchises.
Warner will retire with 32,344 passing yards (26th all-time), 208 passing TDs (26th all-time), a 93.7 career passer rating (currently 6th all-time), an average of 258.8 passing yards/game (2nd all-time, P. Manning), and a career completion percentage of 65.5% (2nd all-time, C. Pennington).

Pro Bowl: Fitz pulls out, replaced by Steve Smith (NYG) expand +

Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald will not be making the trip to Miami for the Pro Bowl this year due to various injuries he's been dealing with for awhile now. Fitz will be replaced on the team by Giants WR Steve Smith.

Pyro's Take:

Smith ended up 3rd in the NFC in receiving yards this year with 1,220 and 1st in receptions with 107. The third-year receiver is also the first Giants wideout to make the Pro Bowl since 1968.

Kurt Warner announces his retirement Friday expand +

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kurt Warner announced his retirement from the NFL after 12 seasons in the league. He played six years with the St. Louis Rams, one with the NY Giants, and five with the Arizona Cardinals.

Pyro's Take:

Warner left with one year remaining on a two-year, $23 million contract, so he must really be looking forward to leaving the game. He retires with 32,344 passing yards (26th all-time), 208 passing TDs (26th all-time), a 93.7 career passer rating (currently 6th all-time), an average of 258.8 passing yards/game (2nd all-time, P. Manning), and a career completion percentage of 65.5% (2nd all-time, C. Pennington). He also has two league MVPs and one Super Bowl ring to his credit.
