Maclin far from Camp expand +

The Eagles first round pick, WR Jeremy Maclin, is apparently not even close to signing a contract as he holds-out of training camp. Offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg said this doesn't bode well for Maclin. "In general, it's my experience with rookies that help a ball club - or helped the club that I've been on - they've missed very, very little [time]. It's just a big advantage to be at every practice."

Pyro's Take:

We really like Maclin to produce right away in this offense and be a solid player fantasy-wise. However, this concerns us and everyday Maclin doesn't show drops him on the depth chart on a team with many options at wide receiver.

Eagles Maclin inks deal expand +

19th overall pick, Jeremy Maclin signed a five year contract valued at $15.5 million of which $9.5 millon is guaranteed.

Pyro's Take:

Phew. This is a guy that we are high on, and the last thing we wanted to deal with is a holdout. McNabb spreads the ball out, yeah, but it's only due to the low-grade WR corps he has had over the years. Look at what he did with TO. Maclin is no TO, but he has the most upside of the Eagles pass-catchers.

Vick signs with Eagles expand +

ESPN.com's Chris Mortensen reports that QB Michael Vick has signed a two-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. Vick's agent has confirmed this.

Pyro's Take:

We really didn't see this coming and we're not too sure on where he fits in Philly. Wildcat? Surely they have a bona-fide QB in McNabb, some solid receivers in DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin and Kevin Curtis, and not to mention All-Everything RB Brian Westbrook. We'll see how this plays out.

Curtis almost 100 percent expand +

Philadelphia Eagles WR Kevin Curtis, who has undergone two groin-area operations in the past eight months, says that he's "almost 100 percent" heading into training camp. "I'm looking forward to that day when I don't feel it at all," Curtis said. "Hopefully, that day is pretty soon."

Pyro's Take:

Curtis was an outstanding target for McNabb in 2007 in gaining over 1,100 yards, the last time an Eagles receiver has done so. However, Kevin was hampered by a sports hernia for most of last year, and is now a 31-year old damaged receiver at a crowded position in Philly fighting to keep his status. At this point, Curtis is still the starter opposite DeSean Jackson, but he's going to have to hold off rookie first-round draft pick Jeremy Maclin the whole year if he wants to be fantasy relevant in 2009.

Maclin going to have to fight for time expand +

Philadelphia Eagles WR Jeremy Maclin is going to have to fight for time on the field as a receiver this year. He'll get plenty of chance to star as a kick returner and punt returner, but with the logjam at WR this year, he'll be hard-pressed to duplicate DeSean Jackson's rookie numbers of last year.

Pyro's Take:

Maclin by far has the most skills of the receiving crew, maybe even more than Jackson. However, with Jackson holding the flanker spot and Jason Avant working the slot duties, Maclin will have to fight for time at split end with starter Kevin Curtis, Reggie Brown, and Hank Baskett. We fully expect J-Mac to beat these guys out at some point, but it might not be until halfway through the season. Fantasy-wise, he's worth a shot because he's as talented as anyone, but he might not get you what you're looking for until the middle of the season.

McNabb knew of Vick signing beforehand expand +

Supposedly Philadelphia Eagles QB Donovan McNabb isn't happy with the recent signing of QB Michael Vick, but coach Andy Reid has said that the Eagles consulted McNabb before the signing and that the starting QB was on board with the move. "Donovan was involved in this too. I was able to share that with Donovan. This was not a secret to Donovan." McNabb also said that Vick was no threat to him as a starter and that he actively lobbied for the signing.

Pyro's Take:

No matter what the speculation is around the league and around Philly, we're pretty sure that Donovan is just fine with the team grabbing Vick. The Eagles have catered to McNabb and his whining plenty of times in the past, so what would change their way of dealing with Donovan now? Regardless of who's happy and who's not, Philly now becomes one of the most dynamic offenses in the league and should be fun to watch throughout the 2009 season.

Kolb's time may be up in Philly expand +

Philadelphia Eagles backup QB Kevin Kolb may be running out of time in Philly. The signing of Michael Vick pretty much ensures that Kolb will be relegated to 3rd-string duties by mid-season, and it's a real possibility that he could be traded either during the year or after the season ends.

Pyro's Take:

Kolb was absolutely awful last year when given the opportunity to play during blowouts. Since it was already a rumor during this past off-season that the Eagles were considering trading him, the signing of Vick to a two-year deal makes it a virtual lock that Kolb will be in a different uniform next year, and possibly even later this season.

Booker not a lock to make roster expand +

Philadelphia Eagles RB Lorenzo Booker has been a virtual bust since the Eagles traded for him on draft day, 2008. He only had 26 touches last year, gaining 64 yards, and has been dropping passes left and right coming out of the backfield during training camp this year. "He's got good hands," head coach Andy Reid said. "I'm not sure what the deal is. He dropped a couple yesterday and a couple today. He'll work through that."

Pyro's Take:

The Eagles only gave up a fourth-round draft choice to pry him from Miami before the 2008 season, so there's not too much invested in him. It's clear that rookie LeSean McCoy is going to be the handcuff to Brian Westbrook this year, not the meek, underachieving Booker this season.

Celek should be fine in a couple of days expand +

Philadelphia Eagles young, up-and-coming starting TE Brent Celek was injured in the preseason loss to New England Thursday night. Celek left the game with a partially separated left shoulder, but head coach Andy Reid said that the injury was minor and that he would be fine in "a couple of days".

Pyro's Take:

Even though the Eagles have a plethora of weapons at their disposal this year, we still like Celek as a nice backup fantasy TE in 2009. Hopefully Reid is right in that the injury is minor and won't affect what could be a real good year for Brent and the Eagles.

No one more impressive than McCoy expand +

Philadelphia Eagles rookie RB LeSean McCoy was the most impressive offensive player for the Eagles in their first preseason game. McCoy rushed the ball 10 times for 55 yards with a long of 16, added a couple of receptions for 12 yards, and was great in picking up the blitz.

Pyro's Take:

This kid has all the makings of a future stud in the league, much in the way of his teammate Brian Westbrook. He's a shifty runner, isn't shy of contact, can catch the ball well, and is getting better and better at picking up the blitz as well. We can't stress enough how important it is to make sure you grab McCoy if you own Westbrook on your team. He could be one of the best handcuffs to have once all is said and done this year.

Westbrook returns in full expand +

Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook, who had off-season ankle surgery, made a full return to practice on Monday, August 17th. Westy took part in every facet of what the players described as "the toughest practice of the preseason". Westy had been participating in individual drills the past couple of days, but was running with the first team during live hitting instruction today.

Pyro's Take:

This is easily the best news any fantasy owner could have hoped for at this point, as his non-participation was surely beginning to weigh on people's minds. Give him a couple of weeks to get his legs back under him, and I'm sure we'll be seeing the same old Westy we've all gotten used to.

McNabb has nice night expand +

Eagles QB Donovan McNabb ended his night going 5 of 7 for 77 yards including a 39-yard TD pass to DeSean Jackson.

Pyro's Take:

McNasty only played for three series during the game as coach Andy Reid felt that he'd seen enough out of him. No need to get their stud QB hurt in a meaningless preseason game, but it was nice to see McNabb get in a few good snaps. The hookup with D-Jack should be a regular connection throughout the year.

LeSean McCoy doesn't do much against Colts expand +

Philadelphia Eagles rookie RB LeSean McCoy rushed the ball five times for just four yards against the Colts last night, but did have three catches out of the backfield for 31 yards.

Pyro's Take:

After a stellar performance in the first preseason game, McCoy came back down to earth a bit this past game. He's still the guy to grab as your handcuff to Brian Westbrook, but let this game serve as a reminder that Westy is still the stud of the team and won't be supplanted for any reason besides injury.

Maclin still not close to starting lineup expand +

Philadelphia Eagles rookie WR Jeremy Maclin caught just three passes Thursday night for 13 yards. He also added 77 total yards on three kickoff returns and two punt returns.

Pyro's Take:

Maclin is a special talent that will find his way into the first-team offense at some point, but will be used more as a punt/kickoff returner to start off the year. He's worth a chance on draft day, but don't expect much out of him until around mid-season.

Eagles RB Westbrook improving, preseason still questionable expand +

Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook has been improving each day as he works his way back into game shape after undergoing off-season ankle surgery. He was seen making sharp cuts in practice on Monday, but whether or not he plays in any games this preseason is still up in the air.

Pyro's Take:

The Eagles and coach Andy Reid will likely keep Westy from live-action until the first game of the regular season. Westbrook turns 30-years old a week before the season begins, so saving every inch they can out of their star RB would be the smartest move in our book. Westy seems to be coming along just fine, so feel free to keep him up on your charts as a solid RB2 come draft day.

Vick will play Thursday expand +

Eagles head coach Andy Reid said at a news conference on Tuesday that Vick will indeed be making his preseason debut on Thursday against the Jacksonville Jaguars. "We'll see how it works out and give him a couple shots in there and see what he can do," Reid said. "... I think he's excited to get out there. I'm sure he'll have a couple butterflies with it being a couple years since he's been in, but I think he's excited to get back to doing what he does."

Pyro's Take:

We're not sure if our interest in the game lies more in seeing how the Eagles plan on using the multi-faceted Vick, or seeing how the crowd reacts to the recently released and signed convict.

Reid went on to say that Vick will be used during the first three quarters of the game, the span in which he also indicated his starters would be on the field. That likely means Vick will be coming in for a version of the Wildcat offense, but where he lines up is anybody's guess. Either way, Thursday night's game should be fun to watch.

Westbrook inactive for Thursday night game expand +

Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook is in uniform on the sidelines, but was declared inactive for the game.

Pyro's Take:

Coach Andy Reid may have re-thought his decision earlier in the week to play Westy in this game. Our gut tells us that Reid decided not to take the chance with his All-Pro running back and save him up for the regular season.

McNabb to sit preseason finale, Kolb will start, Vick gets second half expand +

Philadelphia Eagles starting QB Donovan McNabb will sit out the team's final preseason game Thursday night against the Jets.

Pyro's Take:

The Eagles already know what they're getting out of McNabb this year, so why take the chance on an injury. Coach Andy Reid said that Kevin Kolb will start instead of McNabb and Michael Vick will start the second half.

Ruling on Vick's re-instatement to be made by Saturday? expand +

The Philadelphia Eagles expect NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell to issue a ruling on QB Michael Vick's possible full reinstatement before Saturday's mandatory league-wide cut-down to the 53-man roster. Vick may not begin playing in regular season games until Goodell's notification, which must come by Week 6.

Pyro's Take:

The speculation is that Vick will be cleared to play for the Eagles Week 3 game if all goes well up until then. Vick has been on his best behavior, so we tend to agree that Goodell will make this move.

Vick to resume his career in Week 3 expand +

Commissioner Roger Goodell announced today that Philadelphia Eagles QB Michael Vick will be reinstated and eligible to play in the third week of the season.

Pyro's Take:

It seems Goodell believes in second chances just as much as the next guy. However, it's not a lock that Vick comes back and immediately takes over the backup QB role in Philly as he still has some learning to do of the Eagles system. Whatever the case, their will certainly be mixed reactions from both fans and players alike.

Eagles release Lorenzo Booker expand +

The Philadelphia Eagles announced on Saturday that they have waived RB Lorenzo Booker.

Pyro's Take:

This would make LeSean McCoy the new backup RB to Brian Westbrook this year. Make sure you grab the young McCoy in your draft as Westbrook's handcuff for 2009.

Pyro's Take:

Coach Andy Reid hints that Vick will stay on exempt list through Week 1 expand +

Philadelphia Eagles head coach Andy Reid hinted that Michael Vick will not be activated from the exempt list before Week 1. The Eagles would have to release or trade a player in order for them to lift the exemption.

Pyro's Take:

Since Vick can't play until at least Week 3, they don't need to make the call just yet. Vick can still be on the sidelines during practice watching and learning the plays, but cannot participate until the exemption is lifted. The Eagles did keep seven wide receivers on their roster, so something might happen there once Reid decides he wants Vick back practicing with the team.
We'll keep you posted.

Kevin Curtis back in full practice mode expand +

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis was back with the team at practice on Wednesday without any restrictions after dealing with some swelling in his left knee.

Pyro's Take:

Curtis had a two off-season sports hernia surgeries that hampered his play as well, so be wary of this guy. When he was healthy two years ago, Curtis became one of only two WRs to go over 1,000 yards with McNabb (Owens being the other), so he has the potential to do well, but those injuries have got to scare fantasy owners a bit. At this point, he's no better than a bench player for your team.

Westbrook not on injury report expand +

Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook was not listed on the Eagles Week 1 injury report despite missing all of preseason recovering from off-season ankle surgery.

Pyro's Take:

Westbrook will get the starting nod, as expected, and should be rolling right out of the gates. He will most likely be getting a full work load against the Panthers on Sunday, which means a bunch of good fantasy stats as Carolina was very susceptible to the run last year. Start him if you got him.

Westbrook limited in practice on Friday expand +

Philadelphia Eagles running back Brian Westbrook was purposely limited in practice on Monday due to the team doing their drills indoors on hard turf.

Pyro's Take:

Westy is still scheduled to start the game on Sunday and should be getting a full work load despite not playing in any of the team's preseason games. His knee seems to be just fine, so go ahead and start him this week if you have him on your fantasy team.

Westbrook and Curtis active for the Eagles expand +

Both running back Brian Westbrook and wide receiver Kevin Curtis are active for the Eagles game against Carolina today. Both players will be starting as well.

Pyro's Take:

This was expected on both counts and it's safe to play both players, though if you have better options than Curtis, we'd suggest it. Westy should have a nice game for your fantasy team however.

McNabb breaks rib on TD run expand +

Philadephia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb broke his ribs during a TD run in the third quarter. How long he'll be out for is in question as the team will be taking more tests tomorrow to determine just how bad the injury is.

Pyro's Take:

Head coach Andy Reid didn't say too much about the injury and downplayed the extent of it when he did. We'll see just how bad it is later in the week, but it's obvious the Eagles need McNabb as healthy as possible because Vick is still suspended and Kevin Kolb is plain awful.

McNabb not ruling himself out for Week 2 expand +

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb, who cracked his rib during the game against the Panthers yesterday, is uncertain whether or not he'll play next week. "...anything can happen. It's just Monday right now, but if Friday and Saturday come along and I'm feeling a lot better, you just never know," he said.

Pyro's Take:

Even though the Eagles in no way want to go into the game next Sunday with Kevin Kolb as their starter, it's a good bet that McNabb takes a seat Week 2. Expect Philly to sign a QB in the next couple of days to either be a backup to Kolb or maybe even start the game over him against the Saints.

McNabb gets help, if necessary expand +

According to league sources, quarterback Jeff Garcia agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday.

Pyro's Take:

With Donovan McNabb's availability for next week's game up in the air, the Eagles decided not to let fate decide their future and took matters into their own hands. Being a veteran who has knowledge of the Eagles offensive scheme, we're guessing that Garcia comes in and starts right away, assuming McNabb can't go next Sunday. He could be a nice one-week fantasy pickup playing in what will probably be a shoot-out with the Saints on Sunday.

Garcia agrees to terms with Eagles expand +

According to league sources, quarterback Jeff Garcia agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles on Monday.

Pyro's Take:

With Donovan McNabb's availability for next week's game up in the air, the Eagles decided not to let fate decide their future and took matters into their own hands. Being a veteran who has knowledge of the Eagles offensive scheme, we're guessing that Garcia comes in and starts right away, assuming McNabb can't go next Sunday. McNabb not practicing on Wednesday expand +

Eagles coach Andy Reid said that QB Donovan McNabb is making progress with his broken rib, but won't practice on Wednesday.

Pyro's Take:

Reid also said that he might not make his decision on a starting quarterback until the morning of the game. We don't expect McNabb to play, especially since they went out and got Jeff Garcia, so you might want to look to another option for your fantasy team in Week 2.

Kevin Kolb will start if McNabb can't play expand +

Eagles coach Andy Reid has already stated that QB Kevin Kolb will start if Donovan McNabb can't go on Sunday against the Saints.

Pyro's Take:

We understand that Kolb has been there throughout camp and knows the playbook and all, but the guy is a skid-mark on Jeff Garcia's briefs. Look for Garcia to get in this game at some point if Kolb actually starts.

DeSean Jackson limited in practice on Wednesday expand +

Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson was limited in practice on Wednesday because of a groin injury.

Pyro's Take:

Jackson only came down with two catches for nine yards on Sunday, but he also had two rushes for 33 yards and an 85-yard punt return for a TD. How he got injured, we don't know, but it seems mild and we'll update you on any changes to that throughout the week. He should be a good fantasy play this week in an expected shootout with the Saints.

McNabb not practicing again Thursday expand +

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb sat out practice yet again on Thursday and will likely miss the rest of the week mending his broken rib.

Pyro's Take:

This isn't a surprise with an injury like that. McNabb will be a game-day decision on Sunday, but even if he does play, we'd suggest looking elsewhere for your fantasy starter this week.

DeSean Jackson back at practice in full on Thursday expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson was back with the team as a full practice participant on Thursday after being limited yesterday.

Pyro's Take:

Good news, even though Jackson also stated that he was still a little sore. The bad news is that Kevin Kolb will likely be throwing to him on Sunday, so we'd suggest looking a little further down your fantasy roster this week.

McNabb misses practice on Friday, doubtful for Sunday expand +

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb (broken rib) missed practice yet again on Friday and is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Saints.

Pyro's Take:

McNabb's a tough cookie, but one hit to the ribs on Sunday and he could be out for long long time. We don't believe coach Andy Reid will risk that, and neither should you. Find another fantasy option for Week 2.

McNabb inactive on Sunday expand +

Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb has been declared inactive for the game against the Saints today.

Pyro's Take:

This was expected and referenced to all week. We hope you paid attention enough to have him out of your fantasy lineup by now.

DeSean Jackson day-to-day with groin injury expand +

Eagles coach Andy Reid said on Monday that wide receiver DeSean Jackson is considered day-to-day with the groin injury he re-aggravated in the game against the Saints on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Why Jackson is still on punt returns is beyond us, but we're guessing he won't be anymore. He should be fine by next week's game, but we'll keep you updated on his status throughout the week.

Westbrook day-to-day with ankle injury expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook is day-to-day with a right ankle sprain, though coach Andy Reid said that the injury will not require an MRI.

Pyro's Take:

The bothersome part is that the injury is to the same ankle that Westy just had off-season surgery on. The ankle doesn't seem to be that bad as of now, but we doubt he'll be practicing all week and could end up being a game-time decision next Sunday.

Kolb to have partner behind center on Sunday expand +

Eagles OC Marty Mornhinweg confirmed on Thursday that quarterback Michael Vick will indeed play on Sunday. "How much we'll see as the week goes on. I think hes in top physical condition," said Mornhinweg.

Pyro's Take:

The bigger question is when McNabb be back. Kevin Kolb did a fine job filling in for a week, but if Vick couldn't mesh well with McNabb, we fail to see how he and Kolb will work out at all. Still, Vick being ready to play is a positive for the Eagles.

McNabb misses practice again on Thursday expand +

The Eagles top three offensive threats, QB Donovan McNabb (ribs), RB Brian Westbrook (ankle), and WR DeSean Jackson (groin) all missed practice on Thursday.

Pyro's Take:

McNabb and Westbrook were expected, as McNabb is almost certainly out for Week 3 and Westbrook commonly misses practice time throughout the week. However, Jackson is a bit concerning, although the coaches don't seem too worried about it. We'll see what happens tomorrow at practice.

DeSean dresses, but does not practice on Thursday expand +

The Eagles top three offensive threats, QB Donovan McNabb (ribs), RB Brian Westbrook (ankle), and WR DeSean Jackson (groin) all missed practice on Thursday.

Pyro's Take:

McNabb and Westbrook were expected, as McNabb is almost certainly out for Week 3 and Westbrook commonly misses practice time throughout the week. However, Jackson is a bit concerning, although the coaches don't seem too worried about it. We'll see what happens tomorrow at practice.

Westbrook, Jackson, and McNabb all miss practice Thursday expand +

Pyro's Take:

McNabb and Westbrook were expected, as McNabb is almost certainly out for Week 3 and Westbrook commonly misses practice time throughout the week. However, Jackson is a bit concerning, although the coaches don't seem too worried about it. We'll see what happens tomorrow at practice.

Curtis limited again on Thursday expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) has been limited during both practices so far this week, though is still expected to play on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Someone just can't seem to leave their Kevin Curtis voodoo doll alone. Expect Curtis to play on Sunday, though without being at full strength, we'd avoid starting him on your fantasy team for awhile.

Westbrook misses third straight practice on Friday expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (ankle) missed practice for the third time this week on Friday and is listed as questionable on the Eagles injury report.

Pyro's Take:

Everyone is saying that Westbrook will play on Sunday, and we have to agree. Westbrook knows the offense well enough that rest is almost more important than practice is for Westy. Keep him in your fantasy lineup this week.

DeSean Jackson back at practice in full expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson was back practicing with the team in full again on Friday and is expected to play on Sunday despite being listed as questionable on the injury report.

Pyro's Take:

Jackson could be taken a chance on as a fantasy WR3 this week, but without McNabb and against a surprisingly stingy Chiefs D, he might not put up the numbers you are looking for.

McNabb absent from practice again on Friday expand +

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb sat out practice again on Friday with a fractured rib. McNabb is listed as doubtful on the Eagles injury report and is not expected to suit up on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

The Eagles are looking to get McNabb back to full strength after their bye week in Week 4. Until then, expect Kevin Kolb to get the start behind center.

Maclin could find himself starting on Sunday expand +

Eagles receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) sat out practice on Friday to rest his sore knee after being limited the prior two days. Curtis is listed as doubtful on the injury report and not expected to play on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Curtis is having a real tough time battling through all his injuries and may not be fantasy viable for the rest of the year. Time to start keeping an eye on rookie Jeremy Maclin.

Westbrook inactive on Sunday expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook has been declared inactive for Sunday's game against Kansas City.

Pyro's Take:

This is a bit unexpected, as even though Westbrook sat out practice all week, that's really nothing new. Take him out of all fantasy lineups immediately.

Kevin Curtis inactive against Chiefs expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis is inactive for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

Pyro's Take:

This poor guy just can't seem to get it together health-wise this year. He's starting to become unplayable in fantasy leagues, so if you had him in there for some reason, get him out now.

McNabb inactive as expected expand +

Eagles QB Donovan McNabb is inactive for the Week 3 games against the Chiefs.

Pyro's Take:

Kevin Kolb will get another start here, with the active Jeff Garcia and Michael Vick backing him up.

Michael Vick and Jeff Garcia both active for Eagles expand +

Pyro's Take:

Kevin Kolb will get another start here, with the active Jeff Garcia and Michael Vick backing him up.

DeSean Jackson is active for Sunday's game expand +

Eagles receiver DeSean Jackson has been declared active for Sunday's game against the Chiefs.

Pyro's Take:

With Kolb starting once again, and the Chiefs coming in with a surprisingly tough pass D, we'd use caution in starting the young Jackson. Maybe as a WR3 or a flex if necessary, but look elsewhere if you can.

DeSean needles up before Eagles win expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson told the media that he ended up taking a pain-masking injection before the game on Sunday so that he could play with his groin injury.

Pyro's Take:

No wonder he looked so fast on that 64-yard TD sprint he had in the 2nd quarter, and how he was able to do the splits in his celebration of that touchdown despite an injured groin.
He may be an idiot, but he's fantasy gold right now.

Westbrook to move into RBBC? expand +

Eagles coach Andy Reid hinted on Monday that in order to keep his No. 1 tailback healthy, the Philadelphia backfield could move towards a RBBC for the remainder of the year using rookie LeSean McCoy in a rotation with Brian Westbrook.

Pyro's Take:

McCoy looked real good on Sunday with Westbrook sitting out. The Eagles would be smart to rest him as much as possible if they want to make a run in the playoffs this year. If this happens, expect Westy's fantasy numbers to take a hit.

LeSean McCoy to split time with Westbrook? expand +

McNabb expected back after bye week expand +

In his post-game press conference, Eagles coach Andy Reid stated that he fully expects quarterback Donovan McNabb (rib) to return after the Week 4 bye.

Pyro's Take:

McNabb will take back his starting gig the second he returns despite backup Kevin Kolb's two straight 300+ yard games. McNasty has a nice easy fantasy game as well as the Eagles face the Buccaneers in Week 5.

QB Jeff Garcia released from Eagles expand +

Eagles quarterback Jeff Garcia was released by the team on Tuesday.

Pyro's Take:

With Kevin Kolb proving his worth as a backup, Michael Vick coming back from suspension, and Donovan McNabb being expected back after their Week 4 bye, the Eagles no longer had any room for the aging vet. Feel free to dump him from your fantasy football team.

Eagles back down to three quarterbacks expand +

Eagles quarterback Jeff Garcia was released by the team on Tuesday.

Pyro's Take:

Bye Week Teams: Cardinals, Falcons, Panthers, Eagles expand +

The Cardinals, Falcons, Panthers, Eagles all have the weekend off for week four.

Pyro's Take:

The Cardinals, Falcons, Panthers, Eagles don't play this week, so don't be a stroke, don't play anyone on these 4 teams this Sunday.

Kevin Curtis returns to practice on Monday expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) returned to practice on Monday after being inactive for the Week 3 game against the Chiefs.

Pyro's Take:

This kid is a broken record that the Eagles can no longer afford to listen to anymore. Nagging injury after nagging injury, blah blah blah. Dump him from your fantasy football team, even if the Eagles won't.

Maclin to share snaps with Curtis at split end expand +

According to Eagles coach Andy Reid, wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) is "getting there", but not quite at 100 percent yet. He'll most likely start this weekend against the Buccaneers, but still share time with rookie Jeremy Maclin at split end.

Pyro's Take:

Curtis is becoming somewhat of a rag-doll in his old age dealing with various injuries every week. Maclin is the one with the upside here, but neither look to be a good fantasy football play this weekend sharing the split end role.

Kevin Curtis getting closer to 100 percent expand +

According to Eagles coach Andy Reid, wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) is "getting there", but not quite at 100 percent yet. He'll most likely start this weekend against the Buccaneers, but still share time with rookie Jeremy Maclin at split end.

Pyro's Take:

Kevin Kolb returns to backup role expand +

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb (ribs) will return to the field against the Buccaneers this weekend and make his first start behind center since Week 1.

Pyro's Take:

Kevin Kolb did a fine job filling in for the injured McNabb, but will rightfully return to the bench with the star QB being healthy again. McNabb looks to be a decent QB1 fantasy football play this weekend, despite the fact that he might wear a protective jacket during the game.

McCoy likely to rotate with Westbrook on Sunday expand +

After taking the entire bye week off to get healthy, Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (ankle) will return to the field and play against the Buccaneers on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Westy was expected to be back this week, but look for the Eagles to rotate him and LeSean McCoy a bunch going forward as the team can ill-afford to lose their star RB for anymore time than they already have. Westbrook is still a good RB2 fantasy football play this Sunday.

Westbrook will play in Week 5 expand +

After taking the entire bye week off to get healthy, Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (ankle) will return to the field and play against the Buccaneers on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Westy was expected to be back this week, but look for the Eagles to rotate him and LeSean McCoy a bunch going forward as the team can ill-afford to lose their star RB for anymore time than they already have. Westbrook is still a good RB2 fantasy football play this Sunday.

Curtis misses practice Friday, questionable for Sunday expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) missed practice on Friday and is listed as questionable on the team's injury report.

Pyro's Take:

Just when it looks like he might play again, the teeter-totter drops the other way. We can't tell you to oust him from your fantasy football squad, but we wouldn't blame you if you did.

Maclin to get the start vs. Bucs expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) has again been declared inactive for the game against the Bucs today. Rookie Jeremy Maclin will start in Curtis' place.

Pyro's Take:

Looks like the teeter-totter hit Curtis in the ass again today. He's starting to become more trouble than he's worth, so either send him to the end of your fantasy football bench, or drop him altogether. Maclin should see a bunch of targets today in his place.

Kevin Curtis inactive, Maclin to start expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) has again been declared inactive for the game against the Bucs today. Rookie Jeremy Maclin will start in Curtis' place.

Pyro's Take:

McNabb active and will start Sunday expand +

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb has been declared active and will start the game under center against the Bucs today.

Pyro's Take:

This has been expected all week, so if you have him on your fantasy football team, feel free to get him in there for a favorable match-up against the lowly Bucs.

Double-teams lead to DeSean Jackson's tough game expand +

Eagles coach Andy Reid seems to think that wide receiver DeSean Jackson's one-catch performance was due to Tampa's constant double-teams.

Pyro's Take:

This may be partially true, but we're not buying it. McNabb is known for spreading the ball around more than most QBs in the league, making any Eagles receiver a tough fantasy football call week-in week-out.

Westbrook and McCoy to split touches for now expand +

According to coach Andy Reid, Eagles running back tandem of Brian Westbrook and LeSean McCoy will continue to share the load for the foreseeable future. "We'll do that as long as we need to," Reid said.

Pyro's Take:

As long as the team is winning, the Eagles will try to keep Westbrook fresh, but that won't last for long. The schedule gets tougher after this next game, and Westy will be needed. Keep using him as your fantasy football RB2.

Eagles won't be able to trade Curtis expand +

With the rumors floating around that the Eagles have wide receiver Kevin Curtis on the trading block, it should be known that Curtis has a $1 million roster bonus due in June and that he'll likely be waived before that time.

Pyro's Take:

First of all, Curtis is 31-years old. Second, he's entering the injury-prone phase of his career. Third, since his injuries make him useless this year, both in real and fantasy football, why wouldn't a team wait to sign him next year for nothing?

Curtis practices in full on Wednesday expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) went through a full practice on Wednesday according to the team's report, but his status for Sunday's game won't be known until after Friday.

Pyro's Take:

Sorry, but we ain't biting. Curtis is not healthy, and he won't be for the rest of the season. Any team that even nibbles on the trade bait the Eagles are throwing out there should find new management immediately.

McNabb talks to DeSean about ball distribution expand +

Eagles QB Donovan McNabb had a little talk with WR DeSean Jackson about how he likes to spread the ball around, yet expressed remorse over not completing a pass to Jackson in the game against the Bucs.

Pyro's Take:

"I take pride in spreading the ball around," said McNabb.
Yeah, no kidding Don. We know you're known for that, but you're not making our fantasy football lives any easier. Jackson is still a solid WR2 play this weekend against the Raiders.

Maclin to get another start? expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) practiced again on Thursday, but said that his knee is "still not where I want".

Pyro's Take:

Who cares if he plays or not when you have a talent like Jeremy Maclin finally getting his shot. Even if Curtis does play, Maclin is the far better real and fantasy football option.

Curtis practices, but doesn't feel good expand +

Pyro's Take:

Who cares if he plays or not when you have a talent like Jeremy Maclin finally getting his shot. Even if Curtis does play, Maclin is the far better real and fantasy football option.

Curtis practices for third day straight expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) practiced for the third straight day on Friday, but is still listed as questionable on the injury report and will likely be a game-time decision.

Pyro's Take:

Even if Curtis plays, expect Jeremy Maclin to not only get more targets, but to probably start ahead of him as well. Feel free to drop the injury-laden receiver from your fantasy football team anytime now.

Maclin takes over starting WR job expand +

According to Fox Sports' John Czarnecki, Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin has overtaken Kevin Curtis in the starting lineup beside DeSean Jackson.

Pyro's Take:

Coach Andy Reid hasn't said as much just yet, but whether Maclin starts or not, he'll almost certainly be getting the majority of the snaps over Curtis, making him a real nice WR3 play for your fantasy football team today.

Curtis loses starting job expand +

Maclin to retain starting WR job in Week 7 expand +

According to the Eagles website, it looks like Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin will retain his starting job in Week 7 against the Redskins.

Pyro's Take:

As well he should. His one-catch, six-yard performance was likely due to McNabb trying to get DeSean Jackson the ball more than anything else. Maclin can still be used as a WR3 for your fantasy football team from week to week.

Curtis to get second opinion on knee expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) will be going out to get a second opinion on his knee injury Thursday.

Pyro's Take:

Here's an opinion for ya Kevin: You did the best you could with the tools you had, but your injuries now make you worthless. Hang 'em up now so you can walk later in life.

Drop him from your fantasy football team if you still have him.

McCoy looking at reduced role going forward expand +

"I think I can carry the load," said Eagles running back Brian Westbrook. "I think I have the ability to go out there and touch the ball 20, 25 times a game. I haven't had the opportunity yet, so really you don't know for sure 110 percent until you have the opportunity."

Pyro's Take:

He'll get his opportunity now, as the Eagles schedule only gets tougher from here on out. Coach Andy Reid will need him to be the Westy of old just to get to the playoffs, so look for LeSean McCoy to take a back seat to the fantasy football juggernaut going forward.

Westbrook healthy, and he wants the ball expand +

Westbrook leaves Monday night game with concussion expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook left in the first quarter of Monday night's game with an apparent concussion and will not return to the game.

Pyro's Take:

Westy was nailed by London Fletcher's knee as he was lurching forward for the first down. There was mo malicious intent on the play. LeSean McCoy will take over in the Eagles backfield for the remainder of the contest.

DeSean Jackson has sprained foot expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson left the game just before halftime last night to get X-rays on his right foot. Although he came back to the game in a limited fashion with his foot heavily wrapped, coach Andy Reid said Jackson should be able to play next week.

Pyro's Take:

The Eagles wouldn't have had Jackson on the field if there was something seriously wrong, so we wouldn't worry too much about this "sprain". We'll keep you updated on his status throughout the week.

Rookie McCoy in line to start in Week 8 expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook suffered a concussion in last night's game against Washington and doesn't look to be in the lineup next week against the Giants. LeSean McCoy would get the start if Westbrook can't go.

Pyro's Take:

McCoy has the skills, but would likely be a bit overwhelmed against the Giants in a hard-nosed, inner-division match-up. He would be a decent flex option on your fantasy football squad, but we wouldn't be able to advise more than that.

Westbrook doesn't look good for Week 8 expand +

Andy Reid not ruling Westbrook out for Sunday expand +

Eagles coach Andy Reid said that he won't rule running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) out for Sunday's game against the Giants and that he's counting on him being there until they get word otherwise from the doctors.

Pyro's Take:

Head injuries are not something to mess around with, so our guess is that Westy sits this next one out. If you have rookie LeSean McCoy, go ahead and use him, but otherwise look down your fantasy football bench for another RB2 this week.

Curtis already ruled out for Week 8 expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) has already been ruled out for the Week 8 game against the Giants.

Pyro's Take:

Wait, who is Kevin Curtis again? Oh yeah, the guy that rookie Jeremy Maclin was drafted to take over for.
Curtis is useless now as his career may very well be over. Drop him from your fantasy football team if you still had him.

Still looking like McCoy will start in Week 8 expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) missed practice on Wednesday and is still being listed as "day-to-day".

Pyro's Take:

Westy was knocked completely unconscious Monday night and experienced some memory loss, so the likelihood of him playing Sunday is extremely low. Rookie LeSean McCoy will take over and could be a decent flex play for your fantasy football team this weekend.

Westbrook misses practice on Wednesday expand +

DeSean Jackson rests foot during practice expand +

As expected, Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (foot) sat out practice on Wednesday to give his injured foot time to heal.

Pyro's Take:

Jackson should be fine for Sunday's game against the Giants, so no worries there. Keep this long-distance-TD-bomb-machine in your fantasy football lineup until further notice.

Westbrook still not practicing expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) sat out practice once again on Thursday.

Pyro's Take:

It doesn't look good for old Westy this weekend. LeSean McCoy will pick up the slack if the Eagles decide to keep him out for a week or two to recover from his concussion last Monday. McCoy is a decent flex option on your fantasy football team if he gets the start.

Westbrook still not practicing Thursday expand +

DeSean Jackson suits up for practice expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (foot) was back practicing with the team on Thursday.

Pyro's Take:

We figured as much. Jackson will play on Sunday and is always a good fantasy football start regardless of the opposition.

Westbrook's headache gone, still a game-time decision expand +

With Eagles running back Brian Westbrook's headache gone, coach Andy Reid said that he'll begin an aerobics workout tomorrow and still insists that he is a game-time decision to play on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Westy is 30-years old now, so if Reid even thinks about playing him on Sunday after suffering a concussion less than a week ago, he should be fired, then sued. Our guess is that Reid is just messing with the Giants and that Westy won't play, but check back for fantasy football purposes just to be sure.

DeSean Jackson practices in full again expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (foot) went through a full practice yet again on Friday and is being listed as probable on the team's injury report.

Pyro's Take:

Get him back into your starting fantasy football lineup again if you had him out. He's a must-start every week at this point.

DeSean active and starting on Sunday expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson is active and will make the start against the inner-division rival Giants today.

Pyro's Take:

DeSean was actually involved in a car accident on Friday, but was uninjured as he was wearing his seat-belt like a good law-abiding citizen. Make sure to get him in your fantasy football lineup against an over-rated Giants secondary.

Curtis inactive again in Week 8 expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) is inactive again on Sunday, which gives rookie Jeremy Maclin another chance to show why he was a first-round selection.

Pyro's Take:

Maclin will start and can be used as a WR3 on your fantasy football team. Get this electric rookie in there if your have him.

Maclin to get another start with Curtis out expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) is inactive again on Sunday, which gives rookie Jeremy Maclin another chance to show why he was a first-round selection.

Pyro's Take:

Maclin will start and can be used as a WR3 on your fantasy football team. Get this electric rookie in there if your have him.

Westbrook to resume practicing Wednesday? expand +

When asked about running back Brian Westbrook's possible return to practice on Wednesday, Eagles coach Andy Reid said, "He's not going to do contact, which is not unusual for what we do as a team out there... We'll just see how he feels. He'll go through a normal practice if he can do it."

Pyro's Take:

We'll see how Westy comes along this week. Supposedly he was still experiencing headaches on Saturday, but felt better on Sunday. Check back later in the week to see if you can get the RB2 back into your fantasy football lineup next weekend.

Rookie McCoy gets RBBC mate back expand +

Unless there is a setback over the next few days, Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) has been cleared by team doctors to participate in practice and get back into live game action immediately.

Pyro's Take:

We'll see how he responds in practice the next couple of days, but Westy looks like he's good to go this Sunday night against the Cowboys. He and LeSean McCoy will most likely see a time-share at RB for a bit, but both can be used on your fantasy football team as at least a flex play each week.

Westbrook medically cleared for game action expand +

Unless there is a setback over the next few days, Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) has been cleared by team doctors to participate in practice and get back into live game action immediately.

Pyro's Take:

We'll see how he responds in practice the next couple of days, but Westy looks like he's good to go this Sunday night against the Cowboys. He and LeSean McCoy will most likely see a time-share at RB for a bit, but both can be used on your fantasy football team as at least a flex play each week.

McCoy misses practice with the flu expand +

Eagles rookie running back LeSean McCoy missed Wednesday's practice with a "severe case of the flu" according to Sal Paolantonio of ESPN.

Pyro's Take:

McCoy is still expected to play on Sunday, but you might want to check back throughout the week in case you were going to start him at the flex position on your fantasy football team.

No timetable for Curtis' return expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) is still missing from practice and no timetable for his return has been mentioned.

Pyro's Take:

Wait, he's still alive? Then whose funeral was I at last weekend?

Westbrook goes through another full practice expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) practiced in full for a second straight time this week and looks like he'll get the start on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Westy will play, but will likely split carries with LeSean McCoy for at least this week. He's still worth a low-end RB2 play on your fantasy football team.

McCoy likely to see split carries this weekend expand +

Eagles coach Andy Reid held running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) out of practice on Friday, but fully expects him to be ready for the game on Sunday.
"[Westbrook] has taken every rep for the last two days here," Reid said. "We've been rotating {Westbrook and McCoy], so that's what we will continue to do."

Pyro's Take:

Westy is listed as questionable on the injury report, but he should be able to go. Expect a split of the action between him and rookie LeSean McCoy, and either one could be used as a flex option this week on your fantasy football team.

Westbrook misses practice, but expected to play expand +

Eagles coach Andy Reid held running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) out of practice on Friday, but fully expects him to be ready for the game on Sunday.
"[Westbrook] has taken every rep for the last two days here," Reid said. "We've been rotating {Westbrook and McCoy], so that's what we will continue to do."

Pyro's Take:

Westy is listed as questionable on the injury report, but he should be able to go. Expect a split of the action between him and rookie LeSean McCoy, and either one could be used as a flex option this week on your fantasy football team.

Brian Westbrook to sit out Week 9? expand +

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) will not play tonight against the Cowboys.

Pyro's Take:

Adam says that two people close to the Eagles have both told him the same thing concerning Westbrook, and we believe him. Schefter usually knows what he's talking about, so if you were thinking about starting Westy today on your fantasy football team, find someone else quick as the noon games will be starting in just over and hour...

No timeline for Westbrook, but might return to practice Wednesday expand +

According to Eagles coach Andy Reid, running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) should be ready to return to practice on Wednesday, but that he will be cautious and won't force a timeline.
"If he has [headaches], then I’m obviously going to go on the conservative side of that,” Reid said. “He had tests done, and everything else. Try to take every precautionary measure possible. But I’m not going to stick him out there if he has the headaches, even if the tests were positive.”

Pyro's Take:

Westbrook missed Sunday night's game because he experienced a bit of a headache on Friday, so Reid decided to be cautious. Our guess is the worst is over, but check back with us throughout the week to see if the all-purpose back can return to your fantasy football lineup next weekend.

Westbrook dealing with swelling in his ankle expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook isn't just dealing with the after-effects of a concussion anymore. He's now dealing with swelling in his surgically repaired ankle, though coach Andy Reid says it's nothing to worry about. However, he did go on to say that if he misses practice on Wednesday, it would be because of his ankle, not his concussion.

Pyro's Take:

It's just one headache after another with this former fantasy football RB1.
Reid also said that the ankle would not keep him out of the game on Sunday, and that if he did have to sit old Westy, it would be due to lingering effects from his concussion. What a mess.

Bills defensive leaders endorses Vick for QB expand +

Buffalo safety Donte Whitner endorsed the idea of bringing in quarterback Michael Vick to lead the Bills next season. "I believe Michael Vick would be a good fit and I would encourage whoever to bring Michael Vick in," said Whitner. "If you're not getting the job done then they're going to bring in other players. ...you bring in other guys to help you win. I would welcome bringing in Michael Vick."

Pyro's Take:

Two things: First, that doesn't speak very positively about their current QB Trent Edwards. Second, and more importantly, Vick is signed for two years with the Eagles, so nothing can be done about that unless he's released anyway.
Maybe not the smartest comments coming from a leader on the team...

Westbrook sitting out practice on Wednesday expand +

As he alluded to yesterday, Eagles coach Andy Reid held running back Brian Westbrook (concussion, ankle) out of practice on Wednesday to rest his swollen ankle. Reid also said that Westbrook would be back at practice tomorrow.

Pyro's Take:

Westy has become one of the more unreliable players in both real life and fantasy football now that he's hit 30-years old. You could maybe use him at the flex position if necessary, but sitting him on your bench is the smarter way to go. We'll keep you updated on his condition throughout the week regardless.

Curtis ruled out for Week 10 expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) has already been ruled out for the game against the Chargers on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Ummmm, has he ever been ruled "in"? Drop the gimp from your fantasy football team immediately before you start limping around just by being associated with him.

LT sidelined on Wednesday with hip injury expand +

Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson was absent from practice on Wednesday dealing with a nagging hip injury, though he says it's nothing serious and that he'll be playing come Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

30-years old really sneaks up on you fast in the NFL. The decline is rapid, whether it be in health or in your level of play, and it doesn't matter if you are a future Hall of Famer or not. LT21 has a poor match-up against the Eagles on Sunday anyway, so he shouldn't be more than a flex play on your fantasy football team.

Gates not at practice as usual on Wednesday expand +

Chargers tight end Antonio Gates took the day off on Wednesday as usual to nurse a foot injury. He is fully expected to play this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

Gates normally takes the day off on Wednesday, so no big deal here. He should never be on your fantasy football bench, especially this week against an Eagles team that has been giving it up to tight ends all year.

Westbrook present at morning walk-through expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion, ankle) was with the team for the morning walk-through and is scheduled to practice indoors today.

Pyro's Take:

The indoor turf is supposedly what kept Westy and his bum ankle out of yesterday's practice, so we'll see how things turn out today. If he comes through fine, he should play Sunday. If not, check back with us before putting him in your fantasy football lineup as we doubt he'd play at that point.

Westbrook listed as probable for Sunday expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion, ankle) practiced with the team again on Friday and is being listed as probable on the injury report for the game against the Chargers this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

This is of course good news for fantasy football owners, but it also sets up quite a dilemma. He'll be facing a poor rush D in San Diego, but will he be all there in his first game back? Our guess is he'll have some trouble working out the kinks, so if you have another option at your RB2 spot, we'd think about using it.

Burton likely lost for season with patella injury expand +

Rams wide receiver Keenan Burton will likely be put on injured reserve after suffering an injury to his patella on Sunday against the Saints. The move would end Burton's 2009 season.

Pyro's Take:

Burton was leading the Rams with 25 catches at the time of the injury and starting to become a team leader as well. Rookie WR Brandon Gibson, who was acquired from the Eagles less than a month ago, filled in quite respectably hauling in 7 catches for 93 yards on 9 targets. He might be worth a look in deeper fantasy football leagues.

Westbrook suffers second concussion this season expand +

Eagles running back suffered a second concussion this season after a big hit in the game against the Chargers. Coach Andy Reid said at his press conference that the team will be extremely careful with him this time around and that football will come second to his health.

Pyro's Take:

Westy is in serious trouble of missing not just a couple of games like last time, but possibly the rest of the season. As soon as more details are known we'll relay them to you, but for now, stash the injury-plagued RB on your fantasy football bench.

Redskins still a week away from news on Cooley expand +

During coach Jim Zorn's press conference on Monday, Zorn told the media that the Redskins are still a week away from any news concerning tight end Chris Cooley's ankle and when he might be back with the team.

Pyro's Take:

The goal is still for Cooley to be back for the Week 12 match-up against the Eagles, but we're guessing it will be more like Week 14 before he's ready. Keep him stashed on your fantasy football bench if you haven't given up hope yet.

McCoy looks to be main man with Westbrook out expand +

Eagles rookie running back LeSean McCoy looks set to get the bulk of the work in the backfield with Brian Westbrook (concussion) out indefinitely. Leonard Weaver could factor into the action as well as the team's fullback.

Pyro's Take:

Westbrook has been sorely missed this year as the Eagles don't seem able to get in sync on offense with him either out, hobbled, or simply just not playing well. McCoy has a bright future, but at this point is merely a flex on your fantasy football team.

Could Westbrook's career be over? expand +

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Eagles running back "Brian Westbrook is scheduled to meet with a concussion specialist in Pittsburgh this week to determine if and when he can resume playing."

Pyro's Take:

Wow, this does not sound good. Schefter also points out that former NFL players such as Steve Young, Troy Aikman, and Bill Romanowski all visited the same clinic in Pittsburgh just before their careers came to a close. It doesn't look promising for Westy, but keep him reserved on your fantasy football bench just in case.

Westbrook ruled out for Sunday game expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) is currently in Pittsburgh doing tests on his head and has already been ruled out for the game against the Bears on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

This comes as no shock to anyone, as this will likely just be the first of at least a few games Westy will be inactive for. Sit him on the end of your fantasy football bench and hope he makes a speedy recovery.

Curtis ruled out for Week 11 expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) has been ruled out for the team's Week 11 game.

Pyro's Take:

Shocker.

Westbrook to make full recovery expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) came out of his tests at the Pittsburgh Medical Center with very positive results. Specialists at the clinic were quoted as saying, "We are very encouraged by Brian's progress, we believe that he has an excellent prognosis and we expect a full recovery."

Pyro's Take:

Westy will be re-tested in a couple of weeks just to make sure he's progressing well. The doctors also told the team to be cautious in this situation as Westbrook goes through rehab.
His career still looks to be okay, but as for this fantasy football year, he may or may not still be worth keeping on your team. Check back to see how he's doing over the next few weeks.

Maclin won't be used on kickoffs anymore expand +

According to the Eagles Special Teams Coordinator Ted Daisher, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin will not be used to return kicks anymore after taking a few hard hits last week.

Pyro's Take:

Smart move. This kid is way too talented and important to the team on offense to go messing with his health on special teams. Maclin has a great fantasy football match-up this week against a beaten down Bears D, so get him in your lineup if you can.

McCoy looks to be starting for a few weeks expand +

According to Eagles coach Andy Reid, running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) will be out of action for at least the next three weeks of the season.

Pyro's Take:

This was expected and definitely the best thing for Westy's long-term health. However, his absence opens the door for rookie RB LeSean McCoy to put his stamp on the starting job not just for the rest of this year, but for the future as well. With games against the Bears, Redskins, and Falcons (all three in the lower third of the league in rush D) over the next three weeks, McCoy could end up being a nice RB2 for your fantasy football team.

Westbrook to miss at least three games expand +

According to Eagles coach Andy Reid, running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) will be out of action for at least the next three weeks of the season.

Pyro's Take:

This was expected and definitely the best thing for Westy's long-term health. However, his absence opens the door for rookie RB LeSean McCoy to put his stamp on the starting job not just for the rest of this year, but for the future as well. With games against the Bears, Redskins, and Falcons (all three in the lower third of the league in rush D) over the next three weeks, McCoy could end up being a nice RB2 for your fantasy football team.

Westbrook ruled out for Week 12 as expected expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) has already been ruled out for the Week 12 game against the Redskins.

Pyro's Take:

Westy won't be back for at least a few weeks, and possibly the season. You can hold onto him in the hopes he can help you in your fantasy football playoffs, but he likely won't be doing much even when he does return.

Curtis inactive for Week 12 expand +

Eagles wide receiver Kevin Curtis (knee) is out for the Week 12 match-up against the Redskins.

Pyro's Take:

We're not even going to waste our energy on creativity here.

Westbrook to start exercising this week expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) will begin to do some exercises this week and the coaches will determine where he stands from there. Westbrook is still ruled out for Week 12 and 13 regardless.

Pyro's Take:

It's still touch-and-go as to whether Westy makes it back this season, though the Eagles are holding out hope for a return late in the season. Hold on to him on your fantasy football team in case he might be able to help you in your leagues playoffs.

Cartwright to start against Eagles today expand +

With Clinton Portis (concussion) and Ladell Betts (knee) both out as expected today, running back Rock Cartwright will draw the Week 12 start against the Eagles.

Pyro's Take:

Cartwright is nothing special as far as running backs are concerned, but he's starting, so he could be used as a low-end RB2 or flex on your fantasy football team today.

DeSean Jackson suffers concussion in Week 12 expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson suffered a mild concussion in the win against the Redskins on Sunday. Coach Andy Reid stated in his press conference today that the team will be cautious with the WR and that he has not been officially ruled out for Week 13 yet.

Pyro's Take:

With all that has gone on with teammate Brian Westbrook, we expect the Eagles to hold their star receiver out for a week. Check back with us over the next bunch of days to see if you need to find another starter for your fantasy football squad in Week 13.

Celek sprains thumb, but expected to play expand +

Eagles tight end Brent Celek ended up spraining his thumb in the win against the Redskins on Sunday, but according to coach Andy Reid, he is still fully expected to play against the Falcons in Week 13.

Pyro's Take:

Celek has had a nice fantasy football year thus far, putting up five touchdowns and two 100-yard games. If he suits up next Sunday, he should be a nice play on your team as the Falcons are close to as porous as it gets.

Ryan has ligament damage in big toe expand +

It turns out that Falcons quarterback Matt Ryan has ligament damage in the big toe he injured on Sunday and has been officially ruled out for the Week 13 contest against the Eagles.

Pyro's Take:

Both Tony Gonzalez and Michael Jenkins seemed to benefit from Chris Redman being forced into the game yesterday, but Roddy White didn't seem to be in sync with the journeyman QB. Hopefully they can fix that at practice this week as there are plenty of fantasy football teams depending on Roddy playing well down the stretch.

Chris Redman will start for Falcons expand +

With Matt Ryan having ligament damage in his toe and being declared out for next week's game, Falcons backup quarterback Chris Redman will receive the start against the Eagles in Week 13 in his place.

Pyro's Take:

Redman didn't do too badly after entering the game in the first quarter yesterday. He ended up with 243 yards on 23-of-41 passing, including two TDs, one of which was the game-winner with 23 seconds remaining. If this continues next week, he could be worth a pickup for your fantasy football team, especially if you were depending on Matt Ryan as your QB.

Westbrook to see another concussion specialist expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook will visit once again with the concussion specialists in Pittsburgh this week after performing some physical activities this past week.
"He had a mild headache after a workout last week, so we'll just see what the doctor says," coach Andy Reid said. "It's up to what they say."

Pyro's Take:

When/if Westy will be back this season is still unknown, but we'll keep you updated as to what the doctors say in a few days. Keep him at the end of your fantasy football bench for now and hope for the best.

DeSean Jackson says he blacked out expand +

A Eagles senior official said on Tuesday night that wide receiver DeSean Jackson (concussion) did lose consciousness on the field on Sunday, and strongly suggested that the Eagles sit him out in Week 13. When asked what Jackson thought, he said, "I don't think I can go. I blacked out."

Pyro's Take:

Jackson is just the latest of a growing number of players who have suffered concussions this year, a trend that is starting to become quite disturbing. It doesn't look like DeSean will play this Sunday, so we suggest you look for another WR to take his place on your fantasy football team this week.

Westbrook officialy out for Week 13 expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) has been officially ruled out for the game against the Falcons on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Westbrook is going in for more tests this week to see how much longer he'll be sidelined for. We'll let you know as soon as anything surfaces, but it's looking like Week 14 is doubtful right now.

Celek at practice, says thumb won't bother him expand +

Eagles tight end Brent Celek said on Tuesday that the injury to his thumb won't bother his play at all this weekend at Atlanta.

Pyro's Take:

Celek has become one of the better fantasy football tight ends this year, even though it seems he's been slightly off the past couple of weeks. He's a great start this weekend, however, going up against an awful Falcons pass D.

Turner sits out again on Thursday expand +

Falcons running back Michael Turner (ankle) sat out practice again on Thursday as expected.

Pyro's Take:

Atlanta needs this win pretty badly, especially going up against a team they are fighting for a Wild Card spot with (Eagles). However, we don't expect the coaches and trainers to make the same mistake twice by rushing Turner back. Check back just to make sure, but we'd suggest you sit the RB1 on your fantasy football bench for now just in case.

Michael Jenkins misses practice again expand +

Falcons wide receiver Michael Jenkins (ankle) missed practice for a second straight day on Thursday.

Pyro's Take:

Hopefully they are just resting him for the game against the Eagles on Sunday, as Atlanta needs all the help they can get with QB Matt Ryan and RB Michael Turner being out. Either way, Jenkins is no better than a low-end flex play on your fantasy football team.

Westbrook feels pretty good after workout expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) said that he "felt pretty good" after going through a workout outdoors. It was also said that he experienced no post-concussion symptoms.

Pyro's Take:

This is of course good to hear, but it's still not likely we'll see Westy active on game-day before Week 15. Keep him at the end of your fantasy football bench.

DeSean Jackson still sitting out practice expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (concussion) was still sitting out practice on Thursday and doesn't look likely to play against the Falcons this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

Teams are being extremely cautious with concussions nowadays, so we don't expect the Eagles to let DeSean play. Look for another option on your fantasy football team for this weekend.

Roddy limited at practice again expand +

Falcons wide receiver Roddy White (knee) was limited again on Thursday, but shouldn't miss the start against the Eagles this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

Roddy will play, and will likely be targeted a ton this weekend as Michael Jenkins might be taking the weekend off. Play him as a WR2 with the upside of a WR1 on your fantasy football team.

Celek practices in full Thursday expand +

Eagles tight end Brent Celek (thumb) was a full participant at practice today and is expected to start as usual on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Celek looks to be a TE1 on your fantasy football team with DeSean Jackson out and the Falcons sucking at defending the pass.

DeSean Jackson out for Falcons game expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (concussion) has been officially ruled out for the Week 13 game against the Falcons.

Pyro's Take:

No surprise here. Make sure you get him out of your fantasy football lineup and maybe get a Jason Avant in there if you happen to have him.

Celek practices Friday and will play in Week 13 expand +

Eagles tight end Brent Celek (thumb) practiced in full again on Friday and even though he is listed as probable on the injury report, he will make his normal start against the Falcons this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

Celek should be in fantasy football starting lineups this week as he goes up against a weak Atlanta pass D.

Roddy White active and starting expand +

Falcons wide receiver Roddy White (ankle) has been declared active and is starting as usual against the Eagles on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

With Michael Jenkins not expected to play, Roddy and Tony G look to be the only reliable targets for QB Chris Redman to throw to today. If the Eagles don't double him all day long, Roddy could have a big game today, so take the chance and get him in your fantasy football lineup.

DeSean Jackson inactive vs. Atlanta expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (concussion) has been declared inactive as expected today.

Pyro's Take:

You should have already taken him out of your fantasy football lineup earlier in the week, but if not, do it now. Jason Avant will see more work in his place, and Jeremy Maclin looks to benefit as well.

Maclin dealing with shoulder and foot injuries expand +

Eagles coach Andy Reid said in his press conference today that rookie wide receiver Jeremy Maclin is dealing with two different injuries right now; a strained shoulder and plantar fasciitis. He described both as "nagging" injuries and doesn't expect Maclin to miss any time.

Pyro's Take:

We doubt the Eagles would be using Maclin as their punt returner if there were any real problem here. Continue to use Maclin as a WR3 while DeSean Jackson is out and a possible flex on your fantasy football team otherwise.

Westbrook could begin practicing this week expand +

According to Eagles coach Andy Reid, there's a chance running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) could practice this week, though he'd still likely be out for the Week 14 game against the Giants.

Pyro's Take:

He also said that Westy might not need to go to the concussion specialist in Pittsburgh for another check-up either, which is of course great news. Still, we highly doubt he would have an impact on your fantasy football team for the rest of the year. Keep him on your bench just in case, but don't expect much.

DeSean Jackson says the headaches have stopped expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (concussion) says that he still needs to pass some concussion tests this practice week, but that he fully expects to be in the lineup against the Giants on Sunday.
"Throughout the week, I had headaches, fatigue, and I was tired. I really started feeling better Saturday, and Sunday I woke up with no headache, so I was back to normal," said Jackson.

Pyro's Take:

He also said that the tests and results are looking good right now, but we remain skeptical as to his availability for the Week 14 game. Check back throughout the week to see if you can get him back in your fantasy football lineup this weekend.

Westbrook to return to practice this week? expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) has not complained about post-workout concussion symptoms recently, while coach Andy Reid said that he could be in line for an increased workload in practice this week in the hopes that he could play in the game this weekend against the Giants.

Pyro's Take:

We're not holding our breath by any means, but this is a good sign Westy will be back soon, if not this week. If you kept him on your fantasy football bench to this point, you might be able to use him as a low-end RB2 over the next few weeks.

Westbrook "really scared" about future in NFL expand +

In the first time he spoke with the media since suffering his second concussion, Eagles running back Brian Westbrook exclaimed just how scared he is about his future not only in the NFL, but in years down the line after he retires from football.
"That's my biggest concern. How am I going to be when I'm 50 or when I'm 60? Will I have all these brain diseases and will I have a problem remembering things? ...Now, the most important thing is to get 100 percent healthy - and not play football... until I'm 100 percent healthy."

Pyro's Take:

With all that has been in the papers and on-line about concussions lately, you can't blame Westy, or any football player for being scared. The sheer size of players nowadays and the force with which they hit you can cause permanent damage on any single play.
We'd be surprised if Westy makes it back to form this year, but just in case, keep him on the end of your fantasy football bench.

Maclin sitting out practice today expand +

Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (foot) was sitting out practice today in order to rest up his ailing foot.

Pyro's Take:

Coach Andy Reid said last week that Maclin was dealing with a bit of plantar fasciitis, so that was likely the reason for him resting today. He's still expected to play come Sunday and can be used as a WR3 or flex on your fantasy football team.

DeSean Jackson returns to practice Wednesday expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (concussion) returned to practice on Wednesday after being inactive for the game against the Falcons last weekend.

Pyro's Take:

Jackson hasn't felt any post-concussion symptoms lately and assuming there is no setback, he should be good to go this coming weekend. Insert him back into your fantasy football lineup, but check with us later in the week just to be sure.

Westbrook returns to limited practice today expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) returned to practice in a limited fashion with the scout team on Wednesday. Coach Andy Reid said that Westbrook will be eased back into action and that he hasn't been ruled out for Sunday's game against the Giants just yet.

Pyro's Take:

We still don't expect Westy to be playing this week, and next week is highly questionable as well. Keep him on your fantasy football bench and hope he can get back soon enough to help you out in your fantasy playoffs the next few weeks.

DeSean Jackson to return punts in Week 14 expand +

According to Eagles special teams coach Ted Daisher, wide receiver DeSean Jackson will go back to assuming the punt return duties for the team this weekend against the Giants.

Pyro's Take:

If the Eagles are willing to put him back there on punt returns, that means he's just fine and will start as usual this Sunday, assuming he doesn't come up with any post-concussion symptoms over the next few days. He'll be a WR2 on your fantasy football team again this weekend if he suits up.

Maclin still sporting a walking boot on Thursday expand +

Eagles rookie wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (plantar fasciitis) was seen walking around with a boot on his foot Thursday. Supposedly the boot is just being used to stabilize his foot for a few days as he is still expected to play on Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Of course it's not a good sign that the speedy WR is still wearing a walking boot, but the team doesn't seem too concerned about his playing status for this Sunday night. His fantasy football value takes more of a hit with the return of DeSean Jackson than the injury, so be cautious in using him as anything more than a flex on your fantasy team this weekend.

Bradshaw sits out Thursday practice expand +

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle) sat out Thursday's practice but is not expected to miss this Sunday's game against the Eagles.

Pyro's Take:

Bradshaw practiced yesterday, so we're assuming he's just resting his ankles in preparation for the game this weekend. He could be used as a flex on your fantasy team, but we'd suggest looking elsewhere on your bench if possible.

Westbrook at practice again on Thursday expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) was at practice again on Thursday, although it is unknown if he was working with the starters or the scout team.

Pyro's Take:

We're still under the impression that Westy won't be playing this week, but he might have a chance in Week 15. Keep him on your bench this week regardless.

Maclin practices, listed as questionable expand +

Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (foot) came back to a full practice on Friday and is being listed as questionable on the team's injury report for Week 14.

Pyro's Take:

Maclin is sure to play, but he might be slightly hampered by the mild case of plantar fasciitis he has going on. However, he can probably still be used as a flex for your fantasy football team this weekend.

Westbrook out for Sunday's game expand +

Even though he returned to practice this week, Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) has been ruled out for the game against the Giants this Sunday night.

Pyro's Take:

No surprise here. At this point, it would be a bonus for both the Eagles and your fantasy football team if Westy gets back to game action anytime before the last week of the season.

DeSean Jackson probable for Sunday night expand +

Eagles wide receiver DeSean Jackson (concussion) is being listed as probable for the game against the Giants Sunday night.

Pyro's Take:

DeSean practiced all week and looks to be good to go after missing last week because of his concussion. Go ahead and start him as a WR2 on your fantasy football team this weekend.

Maclin already ruled out for Week 15 expand +

According to Eagles coach Andy Reid, rookie wide receiver Jeremy Maclin tore his plantar fascia in the win Sunday night against the Giants and that he will definitely be out for the game versus San Francisco in Week 15.

Pyro's Take:

Reid also said that it is a one to two week injury, but we'd be extremely surprised to see Maclin back before Week 17 at the earliest. Unless you are in a dynasty league, consider Maclin useless for your fantasy football team the rest of the year.

Westbrook should return to lineup in Week 15 expand +

The Eagles have confirmed that running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) will return to the starting lineup in Week 15 barring a medical setback during this week of practice.

Pyro's Take:

Westy has played just one game since suffering his first concussion in Week 7. If he returns this next week, he will be playing with a new helmet that supposedly uses the same shock-absorbing technology used to protect Army paratroopers and Navy SEALS.
Hopefully his return makes a difference for fantasy owners who kept him around for the past eight weeks.

Eagles not planning on Westbrook for Week 15 expand +

According to coach Andy Reid, the Eagles don't expect running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) to be back this week, so they will be game-planning as if he will not be in the lineup.

Pyro's Take:

It looks like Westy will be practicing with the scout team all week, so we're not expecting him to be back either. If he's worth anything for the rest of this fantasy football year, it will have to be in Week 16, which is likely your Super Bowl week.

Celek not practicing Wednesday expand +

After playing through a sore back and bad thumb last Sunday, Eagles tight end Brent Celek will be taking the day off from practice on Wednesday. Coach Andy Reid also said that Celek will be fine for Sunday's game against the 49ers.

Pyro's Take:

Celek has become a must-start for fantasy owners, so Reid saying that he'll be playing Sunday is a relief. Make sure you keep him in your lineup for the playoffs.

Gore limited by toe injury expand +

49ers running back Frank Gore was limited in practice on Wednesday due to a toe injury.

Pyro's Take:

Gore should be just fine this weekend, and though he's going up against a tough Eagles D, he still makes for a fine RB1 play on your fantasy football team on Sunday.

Westbrook still limited with scout team expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) was still being limited to working with the scout team on Wednesday, while coach Andy Reid also said that his neurological tests weren't quite where they need to be for the team to activate him, so the likelihood of Westbrook playing on Sunday is close to nil.

Pyro's Take:

Again, we'd be surprised if Westy makes it back before Week 17, which renders him basically useless in the playoffs for your fantasy team this year.

Maclin ruled out for Week 15 expand +

Eagles rookie wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (torn plantar fascia) is officially ruled out for Sunday's game against the 49ers.

Pyro's Take:

No surprise here. Just make sure to get him out of your fantasy lineup if you still had him in there for any reason. Bump Jason Avant up your rankings a bit as well.

Westbrook officially out for Sunday's game expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) was ruled out for the game against the 49ers this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

Westy must not have been given the green light from doctors yet. We can't see a situation where he would help your fantasy team at this point, so feel free to drop him if there is anyone else out there worth grabbing.

Celek good to go for Week 15 expand +

Even though Eagles tight end Brent Celek (back, hand) is listed as questionable for the game on Sunday, coach Andy Reid said that he will be good to go against the 49ers this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

Celek is one of the top TEs in fantasy this year and shouldn't be benched just because he's a little dinged up. Make sure you have him in there.

Maclin expected back in practice this week expand +

According to Eagles coach Andy Reid, wide receiver Jeremy Maclin (foot) is due back at practice this Wednesday.

Pyro's Take:

This is actually a bit shocking, but Reid did say last week that a torn plantar fascia should only be a 1-2 week injury, so maybe Maclin does his return to practice this Wednesday. We'll keep you posted on his progress as the info comes in.

Westbrook will return to practice Wednesday expand +

Eagles coach Andy Reid said on Monday that running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) will return to the practice field on Wednesday and that he expects the doctors to clear him for game action at some point this week.
"We'll know more here by tomorrow, but right now it looks pretty good," Reid said about Westbrook.

Pyro's Take:

Westy has been doing everything he can to come back from his second concussion of the season, and it looks like it might be about that time where he suits up again. However, even if he plays in Week 16, there's no way you could depend on him for your fantasy team as he'd likely be extremely limited in his touches.

Coach hopeful on Buckhalter's Week 16 return expand +

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels said on Monday that he is hopeful that running back Correll Buckhalter (ankle) will be able to return to practice later this week and play in the game against the Eagles this weekend.

Pyro's Take:

The Denver running game wasn't close to what it normally is with Buckhalter in the lineup, as he and Knowshon Moreno work much better as a tandem than separate. We'll keep you posted throughout the week on his progress.

Westbrook will be limited if he plays expand +

Eagles coach Andy Reid said yesterday that if running back Brian Westbrook (concussion) gives it a go on Sunday, he would not play the whole game.
"I think he'll be pretty fresh. He'll have fresh legs out there. Obviously he's not going to play the whole game. [We will] make sure we keep track of how many plays he plays, if it comes down to that," said Reid.

Pyro's Take:

We're still unsure of whether or not Westy will get in there this weekend, but if he does, you won't be able to use him on your fantasy team anyway due to his limited play. LeSean McCoy will also end up with less value due to his return.

Westbrook passes concussion test expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook passed his concussion test with flying colors and will get some reps with the first team in practice this week as he prepares for his first game action since Week 10.

Pyro's Take:

It looks like Westy will be suited up for this weekend's game, but his playing time will definitely be limited. If you have to use him on your fantasy team this Sunday, don't expect more than fringe flex numbers.

Austin injures thumb, but should be fine expand +

Cowboys wide receiver Miles Austin had his thumb wrapped after the game against the Redskins last night but also stated it was more precautionary than anything else.

Pyro's Take:

Austin hurt his thumb on the final play of the first half, but still ended up with nine catches for 92 yards. He should be fine for next week's game against the Eagles.

Choice injures hand in Week 16 win expand +

Cowboys running back Tashard Choice injured his hand on a catch in the second half of the game against the Redskins Sunday night but said it wouldn't be a problem going forward.

Pyro's Take:

The game in Week 17 against the Eagles is for the division title, so we expect to see Choice get his normal workload. He would have gotten extra playing time if the game was meaningless, but that won't be the case next weekend.

Westbrook comes through game just fine expand +

Eagles running back Brian Westbrook came through the Week 16 victory over the Broncos with no post-concussion symptoms after taking part in about 25 plays.
"He said he felt fine," coach Andy Reid said. "He doesn't lie to me."

Pyro's Take:

We'd expect about the same next week and possibly through the playoffs as the Eagles have been winning with and without Westy. If you have your fantasy Super Bowl next weekend, he's still not the greatest of plays for you.

Bengals Marvin Lewis named '09 NFL Coach of the Year expand +

Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis was named the 2009 NFL Coach of the Year by the Associated Press on Saturday. Lewis earned 20.5 votes out of 50, while the Saints Sean Payton garnered 11.5 and the Chargers Norv Turner took 9 votes.

Pyro's Take:

There were a bunch of good candidates this year, from the aforementioned Lewis, Payton, and Turner, to the Colts Jim Caldwell, Eagles Andy Reid, Cardinals Ken Whisenhunt, and Jets Rex Ryan. With all the tragedy that could have crippled his team, not to mention the injuries and scheme adjustments the team went through, Marvin Lewis was still able to lead the Bengals to an AFC North title and the playoffs with a record of 10-6. This was a very much deserved and earned award by Coach Lewis.

Westy retiring? expand +

Philly radio host Howard Eskin reported this weekend that Brian Westbrook may retire this offseason and not because of the multiple concussion problem. It's his left knee - something that has nagged him for the last couple seasons.

Pyro's Take:

He is due a hefty chunk 'o change next year - $7.5 million duckets to be exact. So I don't see him suiting up as a Eagle without a sizable pay cut. Depending on exactly how bad the knee is, I still think his receiving ability out of the backfield could add value to any team short on that talent - like the Patriots, Bears, Bengals, Redskins, Lions, Packers, and even the Colts.

Pro Bowl: Brees replaced by Donovan McNabb expand +

Saints quarterback Drew Brees is being replaced on the NFC Pro Bowl roster by Eagles QB Donovan McNabb due to Brees playing in the Super Bowl the following Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

Ehhh, decent choice. McNabb had a pretty good year, and led his team to a playoff birth at 11-5, but he missed a couple of games and was pretty erratic early on in the season. Whatever, nobody really cares about this game anyway.

McNabb maintains that he's staying in Philly expand +

Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb continues to tell the media and anyone else who asks that he's staying in Philly. Coach Andy Reid has also said on a couple of different occasions that McNabb will be the Eagles QB in 2010.

"That's all that matters," McNabb said during a one-on-one interview with The Inquirer. "I heard it when he said it to you guys, but I heard it before anyway. I think a lot of people look too far into things with all the assumptions and this could happen. He told everybody I'm going to be there, and I'm his guy. I don't see anything that anybody should look into."

Pyro's Take:

Backup QB Kevin Kolb could probably step into the Eagles offense and do just fine, as he showed for a couple of games last year, but McNabb is still the better option for the team. Whatever happens, it should be an interesting off-season for the fans out there in Philly.

With Westbrook's release, McCoy gets the nod expand +

The Philadelphia Eagles decided to cut ties with former All-Pro running back Brian Westbrook and released him on Tuesday. Westbrook played his entire eight-year career with the Eagles and leaves the franchise ranking 1st in yards from scrimmage (9,785), 2nd in rushing yards (5,995), 3rd in rushing TDs (37), 3rd in receptions (426), 10th in receiving yards (3,790), and 10th in receiving TDs (29).

Pyro's Take:

Westy still has a ton of talent and can probably still produce at the NFL level, it just won't be for the Eagles. His injury woes are too concerning for the team's management at this point, so LeSean McCoy will get the chance in 2010 to take over for Westbrook as the starting RB of the future.
The 30-year old running back has already stated that he will not be retiring, so we'll see where the multi-talented RB shows up soon enough.
