Hard to believe that we have played through 10 weeks of the 2012 NFL season, man time flies when you're having fun I suppose.
Pickups After Week 10
Seems like we continually put Russell on this list, but he's still available in a lot of leagues out there. In the past 5 games this rookie has 10 TDs and 2 interceptions, pretty solid! Let's compare that to the rookie QB that everyone is going gaga over, Andrew Luck, who in his past 5 games has 3 touchdown passes and 4 interceptions. Luck has rushed for 4 TDs and had a 400 yard passing game over that span, which obviously boosts his stock, but passing-wise, Wilson is scoring through the air more than the NFL's #1 overall pick. On the season Wilson has 1 more TD that Andrew does, 15 passing TDs compaired to Luck's 10 passing TDs and 5 rushing TDs. Luck is a fantasy starter in 10 team leagues, maybe it's time to start considering Wilson as a guy you can start if you don't have a stud at the position, or have been hit by an injury (Big Ben owners).
All signs point to Alex Smith playing against the Chicago Bears on Monday Night Football. He's been a healthy QB, at least no head injury concerns the team has to worry about, I bet he plays. Which would make Colin K a wasted pickup... but if you have a deep bench, it's worth considering, because if Alex is out or gets labeled again, Colin is a prime fantasy football point machine because he can run so well. He has shown he's an explosive playmaker when under center, usually using his feet. He's an athletic specimen at 6'4" runs faster than Cam Newton (he has 3 TDs runs this season in super-limited action) and has some great playmakers around him. Deep sleeper pick still!
He didn't have a great game, but he's back! You know we like what this kid can do fantasy-wise, mostly because in standard scoring leagues he can provide points on the ground and has great receivers. While I must mention that he has zero TDs this year on the ground, we expect that to change this week… if he's available on your waiver wire and you need some depth at QB - this is the kind of player that can be your starting QB down the stretch if you don't have one of the horses or injury strikes your squad! Lot's of people dropped him when he got injured last, take a look.
We've been singing this kid's praises for about weeks now. Mike was getting injured on every play… and now he actually has a "significant head injury", on a season that is a re-do for the franchise anyway. Add to that a contract that will not be played out by Vick, and fantasy football fans, welcome to the future - Nick Folk is going to be the starting QB for the Eagles for the rest of the year.
Marcel Reece - RB - Oakland Raiders
Looks like Mr. Injury Prone is back on the mend again for a while. Man he just can't stay healthy... Mike Goodson is not going to play this week either. Taiwan Jones is too small, so that leaves Marcel Reece as the RB most like to get fantasy points on an Oakland team that put the points on the board weekly. Good thing is Reece is more of the passing attack back, which is perfect, because no matter what with that Raiders defense being so pourous they will be behind and passing the ball.
Did you see that 56 yard run by #29 last weekend? It was off the charts. Not sure how much longer Mark Ingram can keep getting the carries, Ivory has shown time and after time that he's a better runner than the Heisman Trophy winner. Remember that Ivory was signed a few weeks ago, and has a TD in each of the two weeks he's played on his old team. I really like the upside of this pickup.
Danny boy hadn't played football in 5 weeks, but he's definitely back on his pass catching grind and the no brainer choice for a scantron test question asking who Sam Bradford's favorite target is. He posted 11 catches on 12 targets and had 102 yards this week, and that was against the best defense in the league. If he's available, especially in PPR (which would be amazing if he still is), then grab him. Crazy stat is that in 3 years in the league, the little white fella only has 6 TDs, so he's not that type of fantasy point scorer, just know that if you are in a TD heavy league - he's not that great.
He does't have a 100 yard game yet this year, and only has 26 catches on the season, but he does have 3 TDs in the past 2 games (real TDs, not that Green Bay game type of TD). This makes him a wideout worth looking at. I know that Golden "Donut" Tate and Russell Wilson are good buddies of the field, so maybe that whole Romo/Witten thing starts happening in 12th man territory.
Greg has been fairly consistent this season, marginal, but consistant. To land on this list yet again, it's really his targets (19) and catches (14) over the past 2 weeks that has us believing the ex-Bear may have a really nice second half of the season at a position a lot of teams are looking for points.
With Antonio being week-to-week with a mild ankle sprain, Emmanuel Sanders will get the start and most of the targets left behind. He had 7 targets this week, but was only able to haul in 2 of them. With Big Ben getting hurt it it's hard to say whether that hurts or helps his chances to put up serviceable fantasy points from Byron Leftwich. Sanders only has 1 TD on the season, so keep your expectations low regardless. This team is in a grey zone at the moment, eeking out a low scoring voctory over the worst team in the league in the Chiefs.
Mohamed had his first TD catch as a pro on Sunday (he threw one earlier in the season to A.J.), and was drafted in the 3rd round of April's draft to be the Bengals WR2 alongside A.J. Green, but 9 catches on 12 targets is all he's shown thus far on the year. We put him on the list I suppose in the hopes that he totally turns it on down the stretch, but don't expect much from this rookie from Rutgers.
I like Damarius Johnson better as a sneaky pickup in the Eagles situation, but Riley is a big target in the Eric Decker mould that has been playing catch with Nick Foles with the second team for months. He could breakout! Stranger things have happened.
Damaris Johnson - WR - Philadelphia Eagles
Maclin out, Avant out, a fellow second teamer in Nick Foles in at QB, this kid could put up a nice few games in a row here. What do the Eagles have to lose?
