Pickups After Week 4 - Waiver Wire

Brian Hartline – We had mentioned Hartline to you 2 weeks ago and if he is still available and you need a WR you better grab him before it is too late.  He is being targeted like nobody’s business with 21 targets this week.  He will continue to be a force the rest of the season.

Brandon Bolden – Bolden burst onto the scene this week with 16 carries for 137 yards and a TD.  He is a nice handcuff to Steven Ridley, but the Patriots are not going to play the Bills every week and Bolden will likely not see 16 carries again for awhile, barring an injury to Ridley.  I would caution against picking him up to be a starter for you, but if something happens to Ridley he is going to be the main back ahead of Danny Woodhead.  Bolden is still going to be a threat to steal some TD carries from Ridley as Bill Belichick has not settled on one guy to be the goal line back.

Davone Bess
– Bess had his best game of the year on Sunday with 7 catches for 123 yards on 12 targets.  Bess had 20 targets through the first 3 games and looks like he has solidified himself as Ryan Tannehill’s favorite target after Brian Hartline.  Bess looks like his best value will be in PPR leagues as he has yet to find the endzone this season.  Bess is going to continue to be targeted at least 6-7 times a game and could develop into a nice bye week replacement type of a player.

Kendall Hunter
– Hunter had his best game of the season with 8 carries for 56 yards and a TD.  Hunter had a nice rebound after a poor performance last week against the Vikings.  Hunter will see a lot of action in games like this week where the 49ers have the game in hand, and will be used to spell Gore as the season moves along as well.  Hunter is a good handcuff to Gore and could become a viable starter if Gore goes down.

Jackie Battle – Battle had a decent showing with 15 carries for 39 yards and a TD.  He got a lot more carries due to Ryan Matthews and his problems with fumbling.  Matthews was the more effective runner on Sunday, but if he continues to put the ball on the carpet then Battle will see his role in the offense increase and could be a candidate to steal goal line carries away from Matthews.  He is mostly recommended if you have Matthews as his touches are dependent on how well Matthews holds onto the ball.

Tim Tebow
– It only took 4 weeks and Tebow has made the pickup list.  Tebow is going to be hearing it from the New York fans and media that he needs to start over Mark Sanchez after this week’s abysmal performance.  Sanchez has looked horrible this whole season and once Tebow gets a chance it will signal the end of Mark Sanchez in New York.  Tebow is a player that can post nice fantasy points with his running ability, so if you need a QB grab Tebow now and benefit from it 2 weeks from now when he is the starter.

Rob Housler
– Housler did not have an impressive game while starting for the injured Todd Heap with only 2 catches for 48 yards.  Housler is still going to get the opportunities and should be able to earn the starting job while Heap is out.  He will not be targeted by many this week, but don’t wait for the big week before grabbing him if you need a TE and are in a deep league.

Andre Roberts
– Roberts appears to have taken the next step and earned the #2 WR spot ahead of Michael Floyd.  Roberts has the second most targets on the team behind Larry Fitzgerald and with his 2 TD scores this week has 4 on the season already.  Roberts is having the best season of his career and seems to be relaxing into the role across the field from Fitz.  Roberts is a nice addition and could continue to surprise as the season goes on, although I would not expect those gaudy TD numbers to continue.

Ryan Williams
– Williams had a tough game this week and will not be a highly targeted free agent because of it…don’t be fooled.  He will have a much better game this week against the Rams and then will be the hot commodity.  He has a great chance with Wells dealing with injury and out until week 12 at the earliest.  Williams has a ton of talent and with better matchups ahead is a great pickup.

Ronnie Hillman
– Hillman saw the most action last week getting 10 carries and adding 2 receptions.  He is locked in as the main backup now to Willis McGahee and has a lot of speed, so the Broncos are trying to get him on the field.  He is a great handcuff for McGahee and could see his touches increase if he is productive.  The fact that he was used in the passing game is a plus and as long as he can block, he will continue to see an increase in playing time.
