TARGETS FROM WEEK 6

We have played enough games to see where the trends sit. The guys that are getting the ball the most are rising to the top, and you can see the real deals vs. the phonies in the targets department. So who was fed the ball the most in week 6 and who was starved from fantasy football opportunity last weekend… that is what this piece is all about. Keep your eyes on this, and you will be golden in fantasy football each and every year, but most importantly, this year - the one you are going to win the championship of your league.

We’ve added a twist to the PYRO Targets Report.  You see in the RB and QB charts, I’ve included a new column – LOOKS.  For RB’s, LOOKS = Carries + Targets.  For QB’s, LOOKS = Pass Attempts + Carries.  The purpose of the report is to show overall involvement in the offense, and we agreed at PYRO HQ to add this wrinkle in, as it is a better indicator of the data we’re after.

If you’re a first timer just checking in for this weekly report, here’s how we break it down…

The Gravy Train…

The Gravy Train showcase is to “target” the guys who will be regulars at the top of the list throughout the season.  Rain or shine, this crew will find a way to be here most weeks.  These are your work horses that you can ride to your league’s playoff door.

Eating with the Big Dogs…

This section showcases guys who had a great feeding by their offensive coordinators this week but who will see the top of the list infrequently.  Or, a fresh face on the rise that has shown he just may belong with the Big Dogs.

Dude, Where’s my Pizza…

Here’s where we highlight this week’s batch of players that normally should be fed but we’re starved out over the weekend.

Quarterbacks (Pass Attempts + Carries):

The Gravy Train….

Hey Rodger’s, discount double check…. Rodger’s had a monster Sunday night against a defense that many consider to be the cream of the crop. He didn’t need very many attempts this weekend but was tremendous all game long. His stat line on the day was a 24 for 37 for 338 yards 6 touchdowns and 0 interceptions. No one needed to double check that stat line that’s for sure.

Eating with the Big Dogs….

It looks like someone took the training wheels off Christian Ponder bike this weekend. He attempted 52 passes for 352 yards and 2 TDs. He may have also thrown 2 INTs but he looked the part of a complete NFL quarterback instead of a game manager this weekend. When they let Ponder run the entire offense he can be a big producer especially with weapons like AP and Harvin at his disposal.

Dude Where’s my Pizza….

Joe Flacco only attempted 26 passes in a game that ended up as a shootout. After a great 4 weeks to open the season but has slowed down considerably in the last two games. He was efficient but just didn’t seem to light it up.

Running Backs (Rushing Carries + Receiving Targets):

The Gravy Train…

Adrian Peterson has been racking up yards but hasn’t found the end-zone recently. But what he has been doing on the ground has only been added to what he is doing the passing game all of a sudden. He saw 8 targets catching 7 of them and piling up 50 more yards. Peterson has always been considered a below average pass catcher but Ponder seems to love dumping it off to him.

Eating with the Big Dogs…

Shonn Greene, man is this guy frustrating, he plays so terribly through the first game he almost becomes droppable then he puts down a 32 carry for 161 yards and 3 touchdowns. Honestly even in a great matchup his 2.9 yard per carry average would make it hard for anyone to start him. With an injury to Bilal Powell he even got extra carries.

Dude Where’s my Pizza…

With an inviting matchup against the Raider’s Michael Turner looked for prime for another nice game. He only saw 12 looks in total this week and wasn’t very effective when he did get the looks raking up 3 yards a carry. He even got shut out near the goal line numerous times something that is a bit unusual for Turner.

Wide Receivers (Receiving Targets):

The Gravy Train…

Victor Cruz has been piling up the looks this year trailing only Percy Harvin in that category. He also must have taken salsa classes this summer because he is going out and dancing on a weekly basis this season, finding the end-zone 6 times already. He is only catching about 60% of his targets so far this season, but when he does he is making them count.

Eating with the Big Dogs…

Attention, Attention! There was a Kenny Britt sighting this weekend. He saw a nice 11 targets. Even though he only caught 4 of his targets he still racked up 62 yards and a TD. Britt has immense talent and once he is fully recovered everyone is looking for him to pick up where he left off to begin last season.

Dude Where’s my Pizza…

Hey Big Ben. Remember that guy who made you look on that 82 yards touchdown pass early in the game. Yeah you only targeted me three other times. You kept throwing it to Antonio Brown and he had a stat line of  10 targets catching 4 for 20 yards. Yeah you should probably throw it to me more so I have a chance to break more 80 yarders for you.

Tight Ends (Receiving Targets):

targets from week 6 - tight ends - fantasy football

The Gravy Train…

Welcome Back Aaron Hernandez. The Stetson man targeted you nine times on Sunday in a limited role, not a bad amount of work for Hernandez. He didn’t put up monster yardage numbers totaling only 30 yards. He did catch a solid 6 passes and one of those was a beautifully executed fade pattern into the endzone.

Eating with the Big Dogs…

Kyle Rudolph saw a nice 11 targets against Washington this weekend. He had a nice game with 6 catches 56 yards and a touchdown. Rudolph is looking like a dominant force in the redzone catching 5 touchdowns on the season. Ponder seems to be looking his way in the redzone and this seems like a trend that’s going to continue.

Dude Where’s my Pizza…

Scott Chandler wasn’t a factor in the game against Arizona. He saw three passes thrown his direction and caught only 1 of them for 4 yards. He had been having a string of solid games before this and shown to be a red zone threat for Fitzpatrick. With no one else on the team dominating targets besides Steve Johnson Chandler must be left wondering, dude where’s my pizza?
