PYRO® breaks down the Week 9 matchup between the New York Jets and Buffalo Bills

(Player Rankings based on Top 28 QBs, 50 RBs, 75 WRs & 30 TEs)
New York Jets (4-3)
Opponent Defensive Ranks
Buffalo Rush Defense – 2011: 120.0 Yards Allowed/Game (20th) || 8 TDs Allowed (27th)
Buffalo Pass Defense – 2011: 266 Yards Allowed/Game (24th) || 10 TDs Allowed (T-11th)
New York Jets Offensive Cast
Mark Sanchez (QB Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: #15)
2011 Season: 129/231 – for 1,545 Yards, 12 TDs & 6 INTs
The Jets are still riding the “ground-and-pound” method, even if Sanchez did throw for three TDs against the Chargers in week 7. Over the last four games, Dirty Mark has averaged just 165 yards through the air and even with those three TDs versus San Diego, he still has only averaged 1.5 TDs a game in that span as well. The Bills defense can be beaten in many ways, but they do have the most interceptions in the league and one thing the Jets cannot afford is for Sanchez to be turning the ball over. I don’t expect to see a lot of passing attempts, but since Buffalo allows a lot of touchdowns and the seventh-most fantasy points per game to opposing QBs, he could make up for a lack of yardage by racking up a couple of red-zone TDs.
Shonn Greene (RB Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: #10)
2011 Season: 113 Carries for 426 Yards & 2 TDs || 14 Recs for 77 Yards & 0 TDs
Before last week’s bye, Greene put up his first 100-yard game of the season in a hard-fought 27-21 win against the Chargers. He failed to score a touchdown, which has been a major problem for him and his fantasy owners this year, but at least Rex Ryan is sticking to his guns and getting him 20 or more carries a game. With the Bills allowing a hefty 4.9 YPC this season, 20 carries should be enough to do some damage and possibly get him into the end zone as Buffalo has given up eight total TDs to opposing running backs as well.
LaDainian Tomlinson (RB Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: #36)
2011 Season: 34 Carries for 111 Yards & 0 TDs || 20 Recs for 260 Yards & 1 TD
Joe McKnight (RB Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: Unranked)
2011 Season: 10 Carries for 26 Yards & 0 TDs || 2 Recs for 29 Yards & 0 TDs
Santonio Holmes (WR Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: #23)
2011 Season: 22 Recs for 311 Yards & 3 TDs
Plaxico Burress (WR Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: #35)
2011 Season: 18 Recs for 243 Yards & 5 TDs
Jeremy Kerley (WR Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: Unranked)
2011 Season: 9 Recs for 82 Yards & 1 TD
Dustin Keller (TE Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: #12)
2011 Season: 25 Recs for 372 Yards & 2 TDs
Buffalo Bills (5-2)
Opponent Defensive Ranks
New York Jets Rush Defense – 2011: 126.9 Yards Allowed/Game (25th) || 9 TDs Allowed (T-28th)
New York Jets Pass Defense – 2011: 197 Yards Allowed/Game (7th) || 4 TDs Allowed (1st)
Buffalo Offensive Cast
Ryan Fitzpatrick (QB Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: #25)
2011 Season: 155/229 – for 1,739 Yards, 14 TDs & 7 INTs
Except for a two-game hiccup back in weeks 4 and 5, Fitzpatrick has had a really nice fantasy season so far and was rewarded by the Bills with a contract extension last week because of it (players SHOULD be rewarded for good fantasy play, right?!). That being said, I expect a return of the hiccups this weekend against the mighty Jets pass D. New York has allowed the fewest TD passes and fantasy points per game to QBs this season, so with Fitz averaging just 123.5 yards and under a TD a game against them over the last three seasons (four games), look somewhere else for your starting QB this weekend.
Fred Jackson (RB Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: #5)
2011 Season: 132 Carries for 721 Yards & 6 TDs || 27 Recs for 353 yards & 0 TDs
The surprise running back of the first part of the season has been playing so consistently; it’s almost no longer a surprise! Fred Jackson now has five 100-yard games on the season, the only running back in the league to do so and has rushed for no less than 66 yards in any one contest. He also has no less than 168 total yards in each of his last three games. This week, Buffalo will quickly find out that they simply cannot pass on the New York Jets and will likely get F-Jax a good 25-30 carries/touches because of it. With that type of love, there’s no way he doesn’t have a strong fantasy outing with the Jets allowing the sixth-most fantasy points to opposing RBs this year.
C.J. Spiller (RB Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: Unranked)
2011 Season: 15 Carries for 107 Yards & 1 TD || 13 Recs for 64 Yards & 0 TDs
Steve Johnson (WR Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: #38)
2011 Season: 39 Recs for 439 Yards & 4 TDs
David Nelson (WR Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: #62)
2011 Season: 31 Recs for 366 Yards & 2 TDs
Naaman Roosevelt (WR Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: Unranked)
2011 Season: 8 Recs for 151 Yards & 1 TD
Donald Jones (WR Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: Unranked)
2011 Season: 16 Recs for 174 Yards & 1 TD
Scott Chandler (TE Week 9 Fantasy Ranking: #19)
2011 Season: 15 Recs for 133 Yards & 6 TDs
