2012 Pros and Cons

(+) For a rookie WR, 65 catches, 1,057 yards and seven TDs is pretty outstanding

(+) His QB was also a rookie and a pro-bowler…and now they’ve actually had a full season and off-season to gel together

(+) Had four 100-yard games (in 15 games)

(+) Already considered in the same league as Larry Fitzgerald when talking about the best hands in the league

(+) Speed, Size, Smarts.  He runs pristine routes, can go deep and isn't afraid to catch the ball in traffic

(+) Tough to find a more highly touted/drafted (4th overall) wideout to have delivered so quickly in his career

(+) Had 115 targets last season – a number that will increase dramatically in 2012

(+) WR Jordan Shipley is set to return from injury and add another dimension to the passing attack

(+) BenJarvis Green-Ellis is a consistent back, but it's on A.J. and Andy to win games

(+) Green is probably the most Randy Moss-esque wide receiver we've seen in awhile and he comes without the character issues

(–) Was held to four catches or less eight times last season

(–) Was held under 70 yards eight times as well, including five games under 41 yards

(–) Green will be the focal point of any defensive scheme against the Bengals, which could mean plenty of double- or even triple-teaming

(–) The potential for a sophomore slump is there, though it’s a little less likely for a player of his caliber

(–) Was held without a TD in his final five games (including the postseason) and under 60 yards in four of them

Back-at-it

AJ Green looks to have finally arrived. He has practiced three consecutive days, and looks to be free from whatever injury to the toe he had. "If everything stays the way it is, he'll play," head coach Marvin Lewis said.

Pyro's take: Finally! Owners now can relax and have him in their lineups. This should make the team more well-rounded, and assist Andy Dalton in the passing game.

If you own Sanu or Little, make sure to adjust your lineup accordingly. Little will most likely be moved to the third wide receiver, and Sanu at the two.

Toe Jam

AJ Green is still suffering with the toe injury, and at this point Marvin Lewis is taking it day-to-day approach. Geoff Hobson via twitter has stated that "Monday Marvin on AJ: we'll see how he does this week"

Pyro's take: It will continue to be day-to-day, which puts a lot of pressure on owners. If he is not practicing by Thursday, most likely he will not be in the line-up.

Doubtful

To avoid a possible shut-down of AJ Green for the season, it looks as though Marvin Lewis is going to keep Green out of Sunday's game, having him now out four weeks. "Each day of this week he's looked better and better," he said. "Today looked like football for him. So it was good."

"I don't want him to be frustrated by it," Lewis said. "I want him to feel good about it. When he tells me, 'OK I'm ready to go and can deal with' — we know all the time guys deal with different circumstances. When he's 100 percent ready in his mind to deal with that then I'll be ready."

"We are trying to get over the hump and find the solution other than totally shutting him down for the rest of the season that gets him the rest of the season — as much of the season as we can get him," Lewis said.

Pyro's take: Its starting to become apparent that the Bengals are going to have to make a decision soon. If the Bengals start to slip further into the standings, and Green is still out, look for Cincinnati to medically IR him for the rest of the season.

At this point, hold on to Sanu, and make sure Green is out of lineup.

Green as Money

Cole Harvey, reporter for the Cincinnati Bengals has tweeted that "Lewis said A.J. Green looked to be in "football form" Friday. Sounded a little optimistic about the WR possibly giving it a shot Sunday."

Pyro's take: Giving it a shot, is like Jimmy Graham giving it a shot last week. Let's just table AJ Green for this week, unless your desperate in need of putting a wide receiver in your line-up.

Looking Better

Cole Harvey has announced via his twitter than "Marvin Lewis says he believes A.J. Green has made tremendous progress. He looks forward to seeing how he progresses this week."

Pyro's take: If he progresses well enough, he may just come back in time to save the Bengals season. They have not been the same without him, and they got thrashed by the Colts, losing 27-0. The first one to celebrate will be Andy Dalton.

Missing More Time

Geoff Hobson writing editor for the Cincinnati Bengals stated via his twitter that "No sign of AJ at practice" today. Green was out last week with a toe injury, which was not really explained, and it looks like it hasnt healed well enough for him to return to practice.

Pyro's take: I would be planning to start your replacement wide receiver, as he is most likely going to be out. You can also grab Mohamed Sanu, who did well last week filling in for the injured AJ Green.

Green Shut-Down?

AJ Green could miss significant time, if his toe is as damaged as those around think it is. This would be devastating to the Bengals, as they are already missing Marvin Jones, and Tyler Eifert.

For Green, "Wednesday’s MRI is going to send him to another consultation with one of the nation’s leading foot specialists when he meets with Cincinnati doctor James Amis on Thursday. Since a visit with another foot specialist is also planned, it’s hard to see him being ready for Sunday, but he did play seven days after leaving the Atlanta game early. It’s believed the MRI again showed no tears or breaks, but he’s obviously still having discomfort in the ligament under the sesamoid bone in the ball of the foot underneath the big or great toe."

Pyro's take: If Green can’t play, you figure it’s going to be another heavy duty day for the tandem of Bernard and Hill. Against Atlanta they split 42 carries for 164 yards and they’re going against a Carolina team that is 23rd against the rush.

“Never out of weapons,’ said Jackson, when asked if he was running out. “We’ll put somebody else up in there and let’s go.”

I would prepare your line-up as if Green will miss at least this week, and possibly more. Check the waiver wire, or if your deep enough then go with next man up.

Carted

Richard Skinner, Cincinnati Bengals reporter, via his twitter announced that AJ Green has been carted off the field during practice. "AJ green appears to have tweaked his toe again. Threw shoe off in disgust after warm ups. He is leaving field on a cart."

Pyro's take: Not maybe too serious, but serious enough to cause frustration and concern for AJ Green and fantasy owners. At this point there is not enough information to make a decision, so stay tuned for updates. IF he cannot play, Marvin Jones will most likely step-up in that role, or Mohamed Sanu.

Gonna Start?

AJ Green has stated that his toe feels better and he is wanting to start Sunday's game. Green strained a ligament in his foot last weekend, forcing him out most of the contest. He missed practice Wednesday and caught a few passes Thursday.

Pyro's take: Green will test his toe, and if he feels fine, its all systems go. This is a big relief for Dalton as he already has Tyler Eifert and Marvin Jones out.

The Bengals are going to rely heavy on the run against the Titans, as Giovani Bernard and Jeremy Hill will continuously get carries against this poor run defense that ranks 24th, but 1st against the pass.

Green not practicing

Green is not practicing due to his injured foot, and was found wandering the practice field holding a football. The Bengals have not ruled him out yet, but if he is, he will have two weeks of rest, due to the fact, the Bengals have their bye-week in week four.

Pyro's take: It could be very possible that AJ Green misses this game, due to their following week bye. Coaches like to work that angle, and if he isn't 100% I can see that happening. Keep an eye out for his situation, and see if he practices between tomorrow and Saturday.

AJ Green to miss a few practices

AJ Green suffered a hyper-extended knee during a deep ball drill. Afterward he said,

"It was like I was trying to keep my feet in and then I got off balance. I don't know if something was under my foot, or if it was a rock or something. I just went back and slipped,"

This is similar to the injury he suffered against the Steelers in 2011. The MRI revealed no structural damage.

Pyro's take: This is a major stroke of luck for Green that is was only a mild hyper-extension. Green will miss a few practices, but should be just fine. Green is still one of our favorite receivers this season, so we will continue to monitor him throughout the preseason.
