2012 Pros and Cons

(+) When Ahmad Bradshaw is healthy, he without a doubt has the ability to slash through a defense and create havoc

(+) Bradshaw lost the other half of Thunder and Lightning this offseason (Brandon Jacobs, 49ers) and could end up being used more in Jacobs’ normal 4th quarter role

(+) Scored a career high in rushing touchdowns last season (9)

(+) Rookie RB David Wilson out of Virginia Tech is no bigger than Bradshaw, so he could see more chances in the Red Zone

(+) If Ahmad had played in all 16 games last season, he could have had a career year – A sign of things to come in 2012?

(–) Being one of the smaller backs in the league at 5’9”, 198-pounds, he typically misses at least at least a bit of time because of it along with his violent running style

(–) With the team investing a first-round pick in David Wilson, you can expect the New York fans and media to be clamoring to see more of him as the season progresses

(–) Has gone down in yards-per-carry every year he’s been in the league and averaged only 3.9 YPC last season – the lowest mark in his career

(–) Doesn’t catch nearly as many passes as you would think a guy his size would

(–) Those foot injuries are starting to mount up and have taken an obvious toll on his overall game recently

Though Bradshaw seems to be a team player, he has had some off-the-field trouble in the past.  Back in 2004, Ahmad was kicked off the Virginia football team (before his first season even began) for underage drinking and running from the cops.  Then later on at his second college (Marshall), Bradshaw found himself in a little bit more trouble as he was sentenced to two years probation for stealing a Playstation 2 from a dorm room... which isn't an easy thing to do nowadays:

Contract

Ahmad signed a four-year, $1.7 million rookie contract in July of 2007 that included a $37,000 signing bonus.  He was set to make $550,000 this upcoming season, but the incentives he reached brought the final year up to $1.001 million.  Regardless, he’ll be playing for the big one this year, so expect him to leave it all on the field in 2010:

Injury Report

Yellow

Bradshaw may have missed just one game in 2009, but he dealt with various foot and ankle injuries all year which led to THREE different surgeries in the offseason, including screws being inserted into both feet to stabilize them. Be extremely cautious with this guy

50-50

Ahmad Bradshaw will be getting more carries this week, and it looks like the Colts are going to be using a 50-50 split on carries. Bradshaw outperformed Trent Richardson last week, and last year as well. Trent Richardson went on to say about the split "I think it's going to be a good, equal load," Richardson said of the backfield plans, via The Indianapolis Star. "Ahmad knows that once I get tired or once I'm winded, when I look to that sideline or he looks to the sideline, we know how to complement each other. ... We work well together."

Pagano mentioned how he felt about the split "From game to game, it'll be different depending on the score and how we're using different personnel groups," coach Chuck Pagano said. "They're both more than capable of being every-down backs. ... Whether it's Ahmad out there or Trent out there, I feel good about both those guys."

Pyro's take: Ahmad Bradshaw has always been a good back, and he is young too. The issue has always been when not if he is going to get hurt. When he is out there he performs all tools of duty, and he does it well.

If Bradshaw is on the waiver wire, try to get him, he should have a solid night as he faces the Eagles defense, and should be considered a flex option in all PPR leagues.

Bradshaw signs one-year deal to stay in Indianapolis

The Indianapolis Colts have re-signed RB Ahmad Bradshaw to a one-year contract worth the veteran's minimum at $855,000.

Pyro's take: With Donald Brown on his way to San Diego, Vick Ballard coming back from a torn ACL and Trent Richardson playing like utter rhinoceros shit last season, the cheap signing of Ahmad actually looks pretty darn good.

Believe it or not, though he only played in three games last season, Bradshaw turned in the highest rushing performance of 2013 for the Colts when he ran for 95 yards at San Francisco in Week 3.

Another 'believe it or not' - Despite playing in just 60 (35 starts) of a possible 80 games over the last five years, Bradshaw has the 12th-most rushing touchdowns (32) in the entire NFL. That's more rushing TDs than a couple of elite RBs like Jamaal Charles (29) and Matt Forte (27) have put up in that same time period, and only one less than the combined career rushing TDs by Trent Richardson (14), Vick Ballard (2) and the departed Donald Brown (17).

Ahmad Bradshaw is out this week

The Colts announced Friday that Bradshaw is out Sunday because of neck discomfort.

Coach Chuck Pagano could not identify when or how Bradshaw was hurt, but he said it was a “significant blow.”

Pyro's take: So to all the owners of Trent Richardson who have been disappointed by his performance all season, get ready to get happy. Bradshaw is out, T-Rich will carry the load with a full week of practice and a better understanding of the offense. Oh yeah, they are also playing against the Jaguars, so if the Colts get up early you can bet he will see a lot of action in this game as they get him into the rhythm of their offense.

Ahmad Bradshaw may not play Sunday...TRich time

Colts leading rusher Ahmad Bradshaw sat out of Wednesday's practice with a neck injury. Bradshaw seemed to injure his neck Sunday in Indianapolis' dominate 27-7 win over San Francisco, a game won in large part to Bradshaw's hard running in the fourth quarter.

Pyro's take: Bradshaw also missed practice today as well. They are calling it a neck injury, but it is possible that it could be a concussion and they are not fully disclosing. Either way, this is great news for Trent Richardson, who will dominate the Jaguars on Sunday if Bradshaw is unable to go.

Ahmad has always been an injury risk, especially with his hard-nosed running style. After his performance last week it looked like he was going to give Trent a run for his money for starting running back, but this injury most likely cost him any advantage he once had.

Ahmad Bradshaw to play in season opener

Running back Ahmad Bradshaw will make his Indianapolis Colts debut in the season opener against the Oakland Raiders on Sunday.

Bradshaw missed the entire preseason while he continuing to rehab from offseason foot surgery.

"There's probably a certain amount of plays we'd like to get him," Colts coach Chuck Pagano said. "What that is, I don't know. He was out there [at practice Monday] and running around and looked pretty good out there."

Bradshaw said he's been taking reps with the second unit in practice. He'll likely end up being the starter at some point.

"I love this game and I'm going to give my 100 percent every time, every Sunday," he said. "I don't know how the plays are going to go, but when I'm out there expect full speed."

Pyro's take: It is good news that Bradshaw will be ready to go in week 1. He is a player that has dealt with injury issues throughout his career, and that kept many teams away from him this off-season. Bradshaw will definitely be splitting carries with Vick Ballard, but if healthy Bradshaw is a better threat at the running back position. Expect the Colts not to overuse Bradshaw in week 1.

Bradshaw misses practice again on Friday

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle) missed practice again on Friday and is looking like he may be a game-time decision on Monday.

Pyro's take: If Bradshaw misses the game Monday night against the Redskins, Brandon Jacobs would get a full load and could be used as a RB2 for your fantasy team. Even if Ahmad suits up, he still can't be used as more than a flex this weekend.

Bradshaw practices, probable for Sunday night

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle) went through a full practice on Friday and is listed as probable on the team's injury report this week.

Pyro's take: The Giants can use all the help they can get in this inner-division rivalry game, so it's nice that Ahmad will be playing. Bradshaw can be used as a flex on your fantasy football team as he should be getting his normal workload this Sunday.

Bradshaw sits out Thursday practice

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle) sat out Thursday's practice but is not expected to miss this Sunday's game against the Eagles.

Pyro's take: Bradshaw practiced yesterday, so we're assuming he's just resting his ankles in preparation for the game this weekend. He could be used as a flex on your fantasy team, but we'd suggest looking elsewhere on your bench if possible.

Bradshaw in for rare Wednesday practice

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle) was suited up and practicing with the team on Wednesday.

Pyro's take: Bradshaw had 7 carries to Jacobs' 13 last week against Dallas, yet out-gained him 47 to 39 yards. He might be trying to prove to the coaches that he deserves and can handle more touches this week, and we're guessing they listen. He's still not worth more than a flex play on your fantasy football team however.

Bradshaw limited in practice Friday

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle) practiced today on a limited basis and will be listed as questionable on the Week 13 injury report.

Pyro's take: It didn't look like Bradshaw was going to make it on game-day earlier in the week, but now it seems he'll be playing his normal role this Sunday. He's no more than a flex on your fantasy football team, however, and not a very good one at that.

Bradshaw out of boot, but not practicing

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle) was out of his walking boot at practice on Thursday, and even though he was not with the team doing drills, he was seen doing running activities including running full sprints on the side.

Pyro's take: If RB Danny Ware was healthy enough to play, our guess is that Bradshaw would be sitting this game out. However, the Giants are left depleted in the backfield right now, so they're probably seeing if they can get Ahmad good enough to suit up for the divisional match-up against the Cowboys on Sunday. No need to take him off your fantasy football bench though.

Bradshaw still in walking boot, unlikely for Week 13

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle) has not been cleared by the team's doctors to play yet and is still moving around with a walking boot on his sprained left ankle.

Pyro's take: The Giants need this guy back in a big way, as Brandon Jacobs is limited by the type of runner he is and Danny Ware is currently shaking off the affects of a concussion.

Bradshaw ruled out for Week 12

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle) has officially been ruled out for the Thanksgiving day game.

Pyro's take: Bradshaw is on crutches now and might not be ready for the Week 13 game either. Brandon Jacobs' fantasy football value just took a spike up with this news, while Bradshaw should be sitting on the end of your bench for awhile.

Bradshaw sprains the other ankle now

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw has another ankle injury now, but this one is to the opposite foot. It's being called a sprained ankle for now, but he is wearing a boot to protect it as he was his other ankle in the past.

Pyro's take: Bradshaw is also using crutches, which doesn't bode well for his chances at playing on Thanksgiving against the Broncos. Stay tuned the next couple of days to see if he makes the trip, but either way, we'd say sit him on your fantasy football bench regardless.

Bradshaw at practice Thursday for once

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) was out on the field practicing with his team on Thursday.

Pyro's take: Bradshaw normally takes off both Wednesday and Thursday, so maybe he's starting to hear the footsteps of third-stringer Danny Ware creeping up on his playing time. Ahmad hasn't been of much use since the Giants schedule toughened up and can barely be used as a flex for your fantasy football team now.

Bradshaw to take off normal Wednesday practice

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (foot) will not practice on Wednesday as usual.

Pyro's take: This is the norm for Bradshaw, so no worries about him playing on Sunday or not. He's a decent flex play this week for your fantasy football team.

Bradshaw returns to practice field

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle, foot) returned to the practice field on Friday as expected.

Pyro's take: Bradshaw will play on Sunday, but is no more than a flex play for your fantasy football team at this point in the season.

Bradshaw rested for second straight day

Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle, foot) sat out practice for a second straight day on Thursday.

Pyro's take: He's still likely to play on Sunday, but his value has been plummeting since the news of the cracked bone in his foot last week. He's barely worth a flex play on your fantasy football team at this point.

Bradshaw returns to practice, will play Sunday

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw (ankle, foot) returned to practice on Friday and is expected to play in the game against the Eagles on Sunday.

Pyro's take: With the news that his foot has a cracked bone in it and would need season-ending surgery if he damaged it anymore, we wouldn't be surprised if Bradshaw got a little timid out there. He's still a decent flex play for your fantasy football team.

Bradshaw has cracked fifth metatarsal

According to the specialist that he saw on Wednesday, Giants running back Ahmad Bradshaw has a cracked fifth metatarsal (outside of foot).

Pyro's take: Bradshaw will continue to play through the injury, but he was also told that if the bone breaks all the way, he'll need surgery to repair it which would likely end his season. He's starting to become a more risky fantasy football play, so if you can, we'd trade him now while he still has some value.
