Jags Down Three Offensive Weapons for week 14 - 2016

Pyro's take: As if playing the Vikings with the lowest expected over/under of the week was not tough enough (just ask the Fabulous Thunderbirds), but now the Jags will be without three key starters.

Fantasy Goo: Without JT, Hurns, and Robinson, three key players, in any other situation, I would look to get some shares of the remaining players. But Bortles leads the league in INTs, nobody is scared of their ground game, and the Vikings are just too difficult to play against. Make other arrangements if needed.

Tough Marchup for Struggling Jags

Pyro's take: After a magical 2015 season these Jags WR's have not lived up to their potential in 2016. This week they will line up across from a Vikings defense missing Harrison Smith. However, the three corners are all within Pro football Focus's Top 41.

Fantasy Goo: Hurns and Robinson should continue to be avoided at all costs with this tough matchup.

Hurns Remains In Concussion Protocol

Pyro's take: Allen Hurns remains limited in practices, his status for Sunday is unclear. Go out and grab Julius Thomas, if Hurns is out Thomas and Marquise Lee should see an increase in targets. Houston is a solid D, 3rd vs opposing WRs and 7th vs TEs, but the Jags should be in garbage time again this week so expect a lot of passing.

Hurts so Bad

@MikeGarafolo Sammy Watkins' injury status still only about pain tolerance

Pyro's take: @MikeGarafolo Sammy Watkins' injury status still only about pain tolerance

Fantasy Goo: It is time to offer your buddies a slew of trades if you drafted Sammy Watkins. This looks to be a yearlong drama and weeks of game time decisions. Scope out your opponents lineups and find someone who is strong at WR and offer up something you are deep at for a quality WR. Even if you have to go bargain shopping for someone who has not done much this season like Allen Hurns or Michael Floyd. Those two would be dirt cheap on the trade market. The waiver wire has some possibilities with Pryor for one.

They keep saying REGRESSION

On the Jaguars second drive of the game they were able to mix in the run and the pass.

Pyro's take: On the Jaguars second drive of the game they were able to mix in the run and the pass. Allen Robinson made a pair of acrobatic catches that proved he’s already in mid-season form. Robinson finished the game with three catches for 80-yards.

Fantasy Goo: Not me folks. All the smarties are positive that the Jags passing attack will regress. The numbers point to it so, it must be true because the numbers never lie, right? I am not on board this ship. Blake Bortles had 35 passing and 2 rushing touchdowns in 2015. So, maybe he ends the season with 33 passing and 1 rushing touchdown. If so, then they win. People like to pound the table for something so I want to try it. I say Blake hits the exact numbers from 2015 in 2016. The Jags offense has a true rushing attack now with Yeldon and Ivory. The Jags running game will complement the offense but, not weaken the passing attack in my own opinion. Allen Robinson is an elite WR who has potential to be the best. Add Allen Hurns who is among my favorite side-kicks and a TE who should improve his numbers in Julius Thomas. The backups are going to surprise you all as well. I say the Jags F the league up in 2016 on offense.

"Still can’t believe he wasn’t drafted"

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Before a game late in the 2014 season, Jacksonville Jaguars receivers coach Jerry Sullivan was on the sideline watching his players warm up when an onlooker motioned toward Allen Hurns.

Pyro's take: JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Before a game late in the 2014 season, Jacksonville Jaguars receivers coach Jerry Sullivan was on the sideline watching his players warm up when an onlooker motioned toward Allen Hurns.

"Still can’t believe he wasn’t drafted," he said.

Allen Hurns has 115 catches for 1,708 yards and 16 touchdowns in his first two NFL seasons. AP Photo/Brian Blanco
Sullivan shook his head. It’s time, he said, to quit talking about teams passing on Hurns and instead start talking about the fact that the kid is a darn good football player.

Less than two years later, a player nobody was willing to take a chance on in the seventh round is regarded as one of the top young receivers in the NFL. He’s also a multi-millionaire after agreeing Thursday to a four-year contract extension that will pay him $40 million, including $20 million guaranteed.

However, Hurns is always going to identify with being unwanted. "It [the contract] for sure won’t change me," he said. "No matter how much money I make I’m still going to step on the field thinking about the day I went undrafted. That will stay with me forever."

Fantasy Goo: Allen Hurns will get drafted lower than he should this year and YOU can benefit from the mistakes of your league foes. They will not buy into Blake Bortles or they will not believe Hurns can produce with Allen Robinson and Julius Thomas catching balls and with an improved running game with Chris Ivory and T.J. Yeldon. After watching a lot of Jags games last season I believe Blake Bortles feels just as confident in the red zone going to Allen Hurns (15 red zone targets) as much as the ultra-gifted Allen Robinson (21 red zone targets) and the proven threat Julius Thomas. Based on cost per draft spot I prefer Allen Hurns over Allen Robinson but, do not get me wrong as I love them both.

Jaguars receiver cleared to return

Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns

Pyro's take: Jacksonville Jaguars WR Allen Hurns (sports hernia) was medically cleared for football activities and participated in individual drills with the team.

Allen Hurns was one of the great surprise darlings of the NFL last season despite being hampered with numerous injuries, including a sports hernia. He played through the ailments and put together a fantastic season on Jacksonville's high-octane offense that came out of nowhere. Hurns should be looked at as a great play in 2016 as he should see one-on-one coverage most of the time with full attention going the way of AR15 on the other side.

Allen Hurns will have surgery to repair a sports hernia Tuesday.

Pyro's take: Mike via Twitter "Jaguars WR Allen Hurns tweets that he's having surgery today. He needs it to repair a sports hernia."

He should be ready to go for offseason work. The Jags offense is getting better and Hurns can turn up his 64-1031-10 stats.

Gus Bradley said he does not plan to sit healthy players Week 17 against the Texans.

Pyro's take: “My mindset is that if the guys are healthy and they can go, we talk about always compete, so let’s compete,” Bradley said. “That doesn’t mean that there might not be some personnel changes or guys that we look at, just like what we did with [cornerback] Nick Marshall. If there’s a chance that we think that can help us, if we need to take a look at it, we’ll do it.”

There are four players that it would make sense to sit down in the finale or at least reduce their snaps: receivers Allen Robinson and Allen Hurns, tight end Julius Thomas and cornerback Davon House.

Allen Hurns (thigh) was downgraded to "limited" in Thursday's practice.

Pyro's take: Even though he has been banged up this season, he has played in almost every game, missing just one. More than likely Jacksonville is just managing his reps.

Allen Hurns should return for Sunday's game against Colts

Pyro's take: Jaguars wideout Allen Hurns can return to the lineup Sunday against the Colts after he cleared the league's concussion protocol. He suffered a brutal hit in the fourth quarter of their game against the Chargers and was held out last weekend against the Titans.

Hurns has been Ruled Out for Week 13

Pyro's take: Hurns has been battling injury the past few weeks, and he has officially been ruled out for Week 13. Marqise Lee could be a sneaky play, he will be WR 2. Even Walters is Questionable. Lee will have a great opportunity and is the minimum price on Draft Kings, just $3,000.

Greg Olson conceded it's unlikely Allen Hurns (concussion) will play Week 13 against the Titans.

Pyro's take: Mark Long via Twitter "Greg Olson conceded it's unlikely Allen Hurns (concussion) will play Week 13 against the Titans."

Hurns didn't practice Wednesday and is in the early stages of the league's protocol.

Allen Hurns caught 3-of-4 targets for just 19 yards

Pyro's take: Allen Hurns did not get in the end zone for the first time since week two, and posted his lowest yardage total this season. Allen Hurns will take on the Colts secondary next week giving Hurns time to rest up his bumps and bruises.

Allen Hurns was playing through his abdominal injury.

Pyro's take: According to Eugene Frenette via Twitter "Bradley clarifies that Hurns injury was before sunday's game, and appointment with Philly specialist was previously scheduled. #Jaguars"

Allen Hurns has a sprained left foot, and was in a walking boot on Monday.

Pyro's take: According to Michael DiRocco via Twitter "WR Allen Hurns was wearing a protective boot on his left foot in the locker room. Sprained it on the Jags' final interception."

At this point consider Hurns day-to-day and look for updates on Wednesday and as it gets to Sunday.

Pyro's take: Hurns will play in Week 7. Although he is coming off a rough week 6 outing, he has scored in 4 straight games.

Allen Hurns (ankle, thigh) did not practice 10/07/15

Pyro's take: I would wait for Thursday practice results to be a concern. Hurns has two-touchdowns over the last two weeks and is getting targeted more. Expect another nice game against the defense of the Buccaneers if he can get healthy enough to play.

Hurns leaves on crutches

It looked all good again, when Chad Henne went deep to Allen Hurns for a 66 yard pass for a touchdown, as he torched DeAngelo Hall on a double move. Unfortunately, Hurns dropped the ball.“It was a great play call by [offensive coordinator Jedd] Fisch, but I was trying to run before I had the ball,” Hurns said.

Hurns sprained his ankle on the final play of the game, but X-Rays are not available at the time. Hurns mentioned he would be okay.

Pyro's take: Depending on the X-Rays, but if he misses anytime hopefully you have enough bench depth to cover. Hurns looks like a big-play receiver as Kenny Stills was last year with Drew Brees, and he should remain on your roster.

Allen Hurns turn starter?

Undrafted rookie Allen Hurns, has a solid chance of making the starting roster for the Jacksonville Jaguars. He has had a great three games this preseason. 13 passes for an NFL-high 230 yards and one touchdown He has 45 more receiving yards than any other player, and he's averaging 17.7 yards per catch. Head coach Gus Bradley has been impressed with how Hurns has done over the course of the preseason. "He has good instincts and is really driven," Bradley said. "We saw it in OTAs – some of the quarterbacks said they really like him. They felt like this guy is a diamond in the rough. Just trust us on this. He has some talent. I think the cool thing for him was it was against the ones. He went out there and performed at that level."

Pyro's take: Allen Hurns has a nice frame standing at 6-3 and weighing 195 pounds, also he should have a great opportunity in Jacksonville, due to the little depth the Jaguars have at wide receiver. At the time the Jaguars have Cecil Shorts, Marqise Lee, and Allen Robinson as potential starters.

He is someone that I would put on the scout list for redraft leagues, and would definitely keep an eye on him for Dynasty league drafts. Players like him appear from nowhere every NFL season, and 2014 could be a Hurns turn.
