The Colts are really puffing the magic dragon on Collie. "If you think Brandon Stokley, let's hope he turns out to be as good," said Colts President Bill Polian.
But in that case, Collie is tripping on the Colts. In an interview during rookie camp, Collie said this:
"It's perfect. It couldn't be better. I couldn't have picked it any better. This is a great organization and a good transition from BYU to here. They run things in a very similar fashion. The coaching staff is phenomenal. You have guys who have great character and who work hard and who are technicians... It's probably the best spot. I couldn't be happier. I wanted the best fit for my style of play and for what they want out of their players, I think that's what I got."
Ehhhh, ok.
Collie is actually a great receiver who could be just what the Colts are looking for. Collie spent two years in Argentina on a mission, but returned in time for the 2007 season at BYU. He started off slow, but went for 100+ yards in five of his last six games. In 2008, he played better in rattling off 11 100-yard games and catching 106 balls (3rd in the nation) for 1,538 yards (1st), yet he slipped to the 4th round. Many people thought the Colts would take Hakeem Nicks or Kenny Britt in the first round after Marvin Harrison's departure, but the Colts really liked what they saw in Collie. He doesn't have great speed, but he has great hands, is a smart route runner, and is tall. He will step in and produce immediately with Manning under center.
Collie is battling for the 3rd spot now with four other WRs, but he should emerge as the guy. The Colts have likened him to a taller version of Brandon Stokley. Stokley had a 1,000-yard, 10-TD season in 2004 and they think that Collie, given a few years, can match and even exceed it. Collie is 24 years old and mature enough to handle the spotlight. He is taller than WR2 Anthony Gonzalez, and if A-Gon does not seize on the opportunity that Marvin Harrison's retirement provided him, Collie will be waiting. Buzzed and desperate and disinterested in the very last round of the draft, we would have no problem blowing a late pick on this cat. Make him the 54th WR off of draft boards this summer.
Collie signed a four-year rookie contract right as training camp started. The terms are undisclosed as of yet:
2009 - Under Contract
2010 - Under Contract
2011 - Under Contract
2012 - Under Contract
2013 - Free Agent

No injuries to the newbie. Move along.
Colts wide receiver Austin Collie (stinger) participated in practice on Wednesday and should be good to go for the game against the Patriots Sunday night.
Pyro's Take:
Collie has had a great rookie season thus far and is on pace for 64 catches and 8 touchdowns. He'll be fine for Sunday, but check back with us just in case before putting him into your fantasy football lineup.
Both Colts wide receiver Austin Collie and coach Jim Caldwell said on Tuesday that Collie should be fine after experiencing a slight tingle in his neck due to a hit he took during Sunday's game. However, he may not practice on Wednesday just to be sure.
Pyro's Take:
Collie has been a great fill-in for the injured Anthony Gonzalez over the first half of the season and can continue to be used as a WR3 or flex player on your fantasy football squad.
Colts wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez (knee) was declared inactive for the game against the Rams today.
Pyro's Take:
Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon will have their fantasy football value sky-high for at least one more week, so if you have either one of them on your team, don't hesitate to start them against a weak Rams D.
When asked how close he is to learning the Indianapolis Colts offense so he could get out there and play, wide receiver Hank Baskett said that at times, he feels like his head is about to explode with all the information he's taking in, but that he's getting there.
Pyro's Take:
Indy, and Peyton Manning especially, need guys to be exactly where they are supposed to be on the field for their offense to work. Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon know that, and will be the main guys to take pressure off of Wayne and Clark until Baskett learns the playbook.
Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that the Indianapolis Colts will be meeting with team doctors tonight to discuss the injury to Anthony Gonzalez's knee and that the team is bracing itself for a lengthy absence from their No. 2 wide receiver.
Pyro's Take:
Colts coach Jim Caldwell will have his hands full trying to fill the vacancy and will have to depend on either second-year wide-out Pierre Garcon or rookie Austin Collie to fill the role. Look for Collie to stay in the slot as the WR3 and Garcon to man the WR2 until the team comes up with a different plan. Marvin Harrison's number should still be lurking in the team Rolodex, right?
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Austin Collie will start the year as the team's third WR. Head coach Jim Caldwell went on to stress that Collie's WR3 position is for the first game in particular and that nothing is guaranteed from then on out.
Pyro's Take:
Collie had himself a good competition with second-year WR Pierre Garcon, but with the way the Indy offense lines up, Collie is better suited to the position. He has incredible hands and works well in the slot, which is a perfect fit for Manning and crew. If you haven't drafted yet, Collie is a good sleeper to keep on your radar.
Indianapolis Colts rookie WR Austin Collie looks like he will open the season as the team's third wide receiver with Pierre Garcon getting some time at the position as well.
Pyro's Take:
Collie has had a pretty good camp and would be a perfect fit in the Indy offense as the WR3. He's scrappy, crafty, and will give Peyton Manning all the check-down looks he needs. Garcon is more of a speed guy, which doesn't seem to do much within the Colts offense, but he'll get some time out there as well. Collie is your best bet as a sleeper here however.
The WR3 spot in the Indianapolis Colts offense is still up for grabs, though WR Austin Collie looks closer to taking the job than WR Pierre Garcon at this point. So far in the preseason, Collie has six catches for 49 yards on seven targets, while Garcon has just two catches for 17 yards on seven targets.
Pyro's Take:
The Colts are giving the two receivers an equal chance to win the job, targeting both the same amount of times through two games. If Collie ends up taking the job, he would work out of the slot in this offense, which would end up giving Anthony Gonzalez more work downfield as he would be pushed to the outside. Our bet is on Collie winning the job for now.
Indianapolis Colts WR Austin Collie is battling with WR Pierre Garcon for the coveted WR3 spot in the Colts offense, but neither one is pulling away with the job. Manning was quoted as saying that both guys will probably end up being situational wide receivers, and with Collie working solely out of the slot and Garcon solely to the outside, neither one has much of a chance to make a big impact this year.
Pyro's Take:
With Reggie Wayne and Anthony Gonzalez entrenched as the WR1 and WR2 guys, we hope that one of these guys pulls away and finds himself on the field more often than not. Indy has always been a hot-bed of fantasy talent, so we're hoping one of these guys takes the position by the reins and gives fantasy players one more option in the Colt aerial attack.
The Indianapolis Colts have signed their fourth-round draft pick, WR Austin Collie out of BYU, to a four-year contract.
Pyro's Take:
Collie, 23, is old for a rookie, but QB Peyton Manning has liked what he has seen thus far and tagged him to be a strong competitor for the third receiving spot. He's competing with Pierre Garcon and Roy Hall, but Collie did lead the nation in receiving yards last year, not to mention his 15 TDs. It'll be a good battle.
