Jets Are Looking To Keep Veteran Running Back Matt Forte Rested This Season

The New York Post's

Pyro's take: The New York Post's Brian Costello reports the Jets will give Matt Forte "plenty of rest" this season.

Fantasy Goo: The Jets see Forte as their lead back, replacing Chris Ivory, but he is going to get plenty of rest in a rotation that includes Bilal Powell and Khiry Robinson.
The main question with Forte is how much tread he has left on the tire. He had a remarkable workload in Chicago. He leads the NFL in all-purpose yards (12,718) since he entered the league in 2008. Forte is now 30, which is seen by most as the point where running backs fall off the cliff. Forte is out to prove them wrong. This is not good news for Forte's fantasy value as he's currently being drafted as a top-15 running back.

Jets cannot live without Powell

The Jets let Powell know how they felt about him by signing him to a three-year, $11.25 million contract in free agency.

Pyro's take: The Jets let Powell know how they felt about him by signing him to a three-year, $11.25 million contract in free agency. Powell is one of the few holdovers left from the Mike Tannenbaum era. Powell’s ability to stick with the Jets through three general managers and four offensive coordinators shows how valued he is.

Fantasy Goo: This may sound like bullshit but after watching a ton of Jets games particularly at the end of 2015 I noticed how important Bilal is to the Jets. Powell was ranked tenth last year for running backs receiving pass targets with 5.73% per game. Powell caught 63 passes which beat out bigger named pass catching running backs such as Matt Forte, DeMarco Murray and Lamar Miller. Bilal also was able to carry the ball out of the backfield with a very nice 4.5 YPC. Matt forte is now a Jet and will receive his share of passes so, for now just keep track of Bilal Powell in case Matt Forte stumbles or gets banged up. Bilal will be a far greater PPR producer than standard league play.

injury

Pyro's take: B Pow left the game with an ankle injury (Week 6). That opened the door for Zac
Stacy. Still, this is a Beast East backfield, as Ivory had himself one heck of a day.
