2009 Review

This kid is a monster, there’s no denying that.  He’s built in the mold of former NFL running backs Christian Okoye, Craig Heyward, and T.J. Duckett, but at 6’4”, 264 lbs, he’s actually bigger than them all.  However, carrying around all that weight leaves you susceptible to injury; a plague Jacobs has not been able to escape for years now.  In 2009, his knee caused him enough problems (shocker!) to kill all the momentum he had coming out of his stellar 2008 season.  He ended up averaging just 3.7 YPC while rumbling for just 835 yards and 5 TDs, a huge disappointment considering his 1,089-yard, 15-TD season from the year before.  With so little experience in the Giants wide receiver corps, defenses were apt to stack the box against him and thus leaving him little room to run.  Excuses aside, we’re sure Brandon will be doing his best to forget 2009 ever happened.

2010 Fantasy Outlook

The Giants looked pretty comfortable turning to the passing game last year after their once prolific running game took a turn for the worse.  Heading into the 2010 season, the big question for Jacobs is whether or not this is what the Giants plan to do in the future?  Probably not, and our guess is that the G-men will work more towards a 50/50 split in rushes to passes than the 45/55 split they were at last year.  The offensive line isn’t as dominant as it once was, so that definitely poses a problem, but Jacobs needs to be more aware of his awesome power and use it to his advantage more as well.  Ahmad Bradshaw is a good enough backup to keep Brandon around the 225-carry range, especially considering his injury-marred past, but Jacobs could surprise and put up decent RB2 fantasy numbers this year and be had for a steal later on in drafts.

~ If Jacobs takes his head out of his ass and uses his unique size advantage, he could regain his 2008 form

~ The Giants wide receivers turned out to be pretty damn good, so they still may throw the ball a bunch in 2010

~ Will Jacobs’ past injuries affect him, either physically or mentally?
