Brian Robiskie comes from good stock. His dad, Terry, was an RB in the NFL for five years back in the late 70's/early 80's and is currently coaching Falcon WRs down in Atlanta. He's not the fastest kid on the block, running a mediocre 4.59 40-yd dash, but is a disciplined route-runner, has sticky hands, and learned to play on special teams as well as the different WR positions while attending college at Ohio State. Robiskie has the height and mind for the game to be to make an immediate impact this year.
Every so often, you see a player like Marques Colston come out of nowhere to excel in his rookie year, but it's the exception vs. the norm. 2nd round draft pick Robiskie is one of those guys that has a chance to put up some decent numbers right away as he is the early favorite at starting opposite Braylon Edwards as the possession WR for the Cleveland Steamers. He could put up some decent numbers on a team that will be forced to pass a lot.
Robiskie signed a four-year, $4.908 million contract that included a $2.125 signing bonus. Also available is an $800,750 one-time escalator based on playing time that could up Robiskie's average salary to $1.23 million per year:
2009 - Under Contract
2010 - Under Contract
2011 - Under Contract
2012 - Under Contract
2013 - Free Agent
CLEVELAND BROWNS
Rank #12 vs. Rush
Rank #8 vs. Pass
1=Toughest 32=Easiest
Robiskie is healthy heading into the 2009 season. He played all 12 games each of the last three seasons for Ohio State, so no worries here.
After having the best game of his rookie season, Browns wide receiver Brian Robiskie was held out of practice on Monday with a toe injury.
Pyro's Take:
The Browns passing game has seen a boost since QB Brady Quinn was inserted into the lineup, and the team will likely be taking extended looks at some of their younger players in the coming weeks. However, Robiskie should only be kept on dynasty league fantasy football teams.
Browns coach Eric Mangini noted on Wednesday that the trade of wide receiver Braylon Edwards now gives rookie Brian Robiskie an opportunity to live up to his status as a second-round pick.
Pyro's Take:
Robiskie was touted as the most NFL-ready receiver in the draft, so it's about time the Browns give him a shot. Robiskie, however, still has no fantasy football value.
Side-note: For all the crap moves the Big Man-gina has pulled off, this trade at least makes up for some of it.
Cleveland Browns rookie wide receiver Brian Robiskie played solely on special teams last week after being dubbed the most NFL-ready receiver in the 2009 draft.
Pyro's Take:
The Browns are a constant work in progress that haven't been able to figure out how to best use Robiskie's strengths yet. Look for him to be more involved as the season rolls on.
As SI.com's Don Banks observed, rookie WR Brian Robiskie, "started camp strong, but has since faded a bit."
Pyro's Take:
Banks said that if he were to guess who would start alongside Braylon Edwards at this point, second-round pick Mohammed Massaquoi would be his choice. But he added the disclaimer that Robiskie still has plenty of time to claim the No. 2 spot.
The 36th overall pick in this year's draft became the last rookie to sign with the Browns, inking a 4-year $4.908 million contract.
Pyro's Take:
Robiskie is expected to compete with fellow second-round draft choice Mohamed Massaquoi for the starting spot opposite Braylon Edwards. But with Edwards sidelined with an apparent ankle injury (if you ask us, he's fakin), both players will get plenty of snaps with the first team.
