Colin Kaepernick is back throwing

Pyro's take: The 49ers feel comfortable with either Gabbert or Kaepernick as their starting quarterback or they would not have waited till the sixth round to draft Jeff Driskel.

If Kaepernick can find some accuracy somewhere, he could be an excellent fit for the Chip Kelly system, but Blaine Gabbert could be just better.

This should all come together by week 1 of the NFL season.

John Elway believes the trade involving Colin Kaepernick is dormant

Pyro's take: Elway characterizes status of Kaepernick talks as "dormant." As in: They made an offer, and it's still there.

John Elway has no use for Colin Kaepernick unless he takes a pay-cut, Kaepernick knows his future in the NFL is probably coming to a close, so he needs to make as much money as possible.

Colin Kaepernick is not going anywhere except the end of the bench for whichever team he plays for.

Keep almost back to football strength

Colin Kaepernick

Pyro's take: While all the talk of Colin Kaepernick lately has been about switching teams or his bank account, maybe most importantly he is getting close to being back from his injury.

According to CSN's Matt Maiocco, San Francisco 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick(shoulder) appears to be "a month away from being football-ready" following surgery on his non-throwing shoulder. Maiocco added that the quarterback had "no set-backs" during the rehabilitation process.

Kaep will need to come in to whichever situation he ends up in healthy, as it will be a new system for him no matter where he lands. While last seasons news was all about how he progressed as a passer, this offseason has gone much differently for the once lauded and loved passer. This is a situation to monitor.

Colin Kaepernick remains a month away from being ready for football

Pyro's take: Colin Kaepernick had surgery on his shoulder, thumb, and knee after failing to keep his starting job to Blaine Gabbert. He didnt have any set backs according to Matt Maiocco. The 49ers have been working with the Broncos to load off his salary.

Colin Kaepernick "wants out of San Francisco," and that the Jets are his "preferred destination."

Pyro's take: Manish Meta stated that The Daily News has learned that embattled 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick wants out of San Francisco after a forgettable 2015 that included on-field struggles that resulted in a benching midway through the season and a coaching change after it. The Jets are his preferred destination, according to sources.

The Jets are aware and intrigued by Kaepernick’s desire to play for them, but are still in the early stages of their offseason planning and evaluation, according to sources.

Matt Maiocco said it is "difficult to come up with a scenario" which keeps Colin Kaepernick (shoulder, IR) with the 49ers for another season.

Pyro's take: The one quarterback we know will be on the 49ers’ roster next season is Blaine Gabbert. It’s difficult to come up with a scenario in which Colin Kaepernick and the 49ers agree to maintain their union in 2016.

Therefore, Gabbert is the most-likely quarterback to open the 2016 as the starter. Of course, he will not be handed anything. The 49ers will almost certainly draft a quarterback (we’ve said that before and were wrong), but that does not mean they are going to spend a first-round pick on the position.

Krapernick possible days nunbered

Pyro's take: According to Matt Barrows via Twitter "Jim Tomsula, normally quick to support Colin Kaepernick, says, "We're evaluating everything right now" when asked about QB's status."

I dont really know who the 49ers would turn too even if Kaepernick is not the answer, we all know that Blake Bortles isnt the answer either.

Colin Kaepernick was a full participant at practice

Pyro's take: "Colin Kaepernick was a full participant in practice while also showing up on the list with a right-hand issue. He experienced swelling in his right thumb after the 49ers' game last week against the Seattle Seahawks."

Kaepernick is one of the worst quarterbacks in the NFL. and a swelled thumb wont help. The 49ers will face the Rams this week, so the outcome is probably just going to get uglier.

Colin Kaepernick completed 13-of-24 passes for 124 yards against Seattle

Pyro's take: Colin Kaepernick turned into a goose egg tonight against Seattle. He finished with zero touchdowns, zero interceptions and zero rushing attempts in a game where the 49ers managed eight first downs.

He had one pass hit a trainer on the sidelines, he took six sacks cause he doesn't know when to run and when to get rid of the ball, and of course several of his passes became divots in the dirt.

He know will face St. Louis next week.

Jim Tomsula "I believe in Colin Kaepernick."

Pyro's take: Jim Tomsula must have a lot of faith, because there isnt many out there who would agree with the head coach.

“I mean, yes, he’s our starting quarterback,” Tomsula said. “But, we’re in a game of football. I mean, infinity and statements to that term at any position (are false), but I’ve had no thoughts of him not being our quarterback. He’s our quarterback.”

All defensive coordinators want to thank you coach Tomsula.

Fined $11,025

Colin Kaepernick will be fined $11,025 for inappropriate language. "Kaepernick, who said he will appeal, was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct after his pass was intercepted by cornerback Kyle Fuller on the fourth play of the fourth quarter." The comment was directed toward defensive end Lamarr Houston

The interesting aspect is that both Kaepernick and Houston declined that it occurred. Colin Kaepernick stated he didn't say anything and Houston, reconfirmed by stating he didnt hear anything either.

Pyro's take: Kaepernick could sell a hair follicle for this amount, so it is really no big deal, but this leads to the crazy calls that went on the field Sunday Night.

SF looking to pass more

Jim Harbaugh's key to success has been the ability to have the team run the football, but no offensive coordinator Greg Roman has hinted he wants to open up the passing game. The 49ers have not been anywhere near a passing threat, since 2011, San Francisco has rated 31st in passing attempts.

They brought over Stevie Johnson and Brandon Lloyd in from free-agency, and key players such as Michael Crabtree, Anquan Boldin, and Vernon Davis are explosive play-maker's.

Another reason, is that Colin Kaepernick is more familiar with the offense. Greg Roman stated about Kaepernick: “That’s definitely a factor,” Roman said. “It really is his second full year starting … So he’s seeing things now that he didn’t see before.”

Pyro's take: I don't believe the 49ers are going to change much of their offense to fit in an a large increase passing regime, but I do foresee an uptick. Something needs to change, and a raised level in passing will put off the wear and tear of the running game. Take a look at camp and see how the 49ers use their passing game, and then adjust your tiers accordingly for players:
Colin Kaepernick, Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree, and Vernon Davis.

Kaepernick Signs Extension

Jason La Canfora has reported that Colin Kaepernick has signed a six year extension through the 2020 season. This extension is worth a reported $126 million, and it includes a guarantee of $61 million. This is not a full guarantee, as Colin will need to be on the roster at a certain date, but I don't see the 49ers releasing him in the near term. Kaepernick fits in with the 49ers style of offense very well, and his athletic ability is bar none tops for all quarterbacks. He has led San Francisco to two NFC Championships and one Super Bowl.

Pyro's take: The fantasy angle on this is that he has not been able to elevate his passing numbers. It has taken him 29 games to throw over 5,000 yards, which leads to a 173 per game average, and his touchdowns are low as well at 31 in that same 29 game span. Where he makes up for low passing production is in the running game. He has rushed for 936 yards and nine touchdowns, over the last two years, but a quarterback cannot continue to take that many chances, without getting hurt. When reviewing your fantasy tiers, double check your scoring, because Kaepernick is a liability in touchdown only leagues, but he will bring fantasy gold to those that use standard scoring.

Kaepernick looking to keep good fortune rolling

In two playoff games, Colin Kaepernick has taken 49ers fans breath away … and not always in a good way.

In wins over Green Bay and Carolina, Kaepernick has thrown near-pick-sixes, but the ill-advised throws were dropped by Green Bay cornerback Micah Hyde and Carolina safety Quintin Mikell.

Kaepernick, obviously, has recently benefited from some good fortune, but he’s also been very good when it comes to avoiding turnovers in his 28-start career: Including playoff games, Kaepernick has thrown 14 interceptions in 777 attempts, one pick per every 55.5 passes (Perspective: His Highness, Joe Montana, averaged an interception every 38.3 attempts).

Kaepernick, though, has been far less successful in Seattle, where he’s thrown four interceptions in 64 attempts in two career starts. In a 29-3 loss against the Seahawks in Week 2, he threw three interceptions and had a career-worst 20.1 rating.

Now, four months later, he will arrive for the NFC Championship Game on Sunday with one interception in his past 146 attempts, while the 49ers have committed one turnover in their past 21 quarters.

Pyro's take: Kaepernick will be the quarterback with the most weapons in this game, and he has also been let loose in the running game this postseason. The issue is the same for all the 49ers; how do we overcome our recent failures in Seattle?

The answer lies with Kap. He needs to be to the one to take care of the ball in this game, as well as keep the Seahawks defense off-balance. That is easier said than done.

This is the ultimate bragging rights game, and the Seahawks own a dominating home field advantage, while the 49ers bring more playoff experience. Experience is what led San Francisco over Carolina last week, but they have also experience a lot of defeat in Seattle.

Kaepernick runs wild in the playoffs

Colin Kaepernick has 362 rushing yards in 4 NFL playoff games during his short career, ranking him fifth all-time. Steve Young has the most postseason rushing yards by a QB in NFL history, ending his career with 594 rushing yards in the playoffs, which took him 20 games.

Pyro's take: If the 49ers go to the Super Bowl this year, the bicep kisser will possibly end up at the #1 spot, but he'll for sure beat out John Elway (Elway #2 - 461, Roger Staubach #3 - 432, Donovan McNabb #4 - 362) for the #2 spot, this year! That's incredible. It took Elway 22 games to get 461 yards, Kaep could feasibly do it by his fifth game, all he needs is 99 yards on Sunday.

I pushed hard for Colin in my preseason TIER RANKINGS... I thought he was gonna run, and I didn't think he'd miss Crabtree as much as he has. But really it just looks like the 49ers know they are a Super Bowl caliber team and have told Colin not to risk it by running in the regular season, for fear of their franchise QB getting hurt.

Now I know... Colin isn't gonna run around like a Gazelle in the regular season, if goes down the season is lost for the team. Meaning bump him down on your boards next year even if he wins a ring this year and rushes for 300 more yards. During your fantasy season, it ain't happening.

Kaepernick getting incentive to run

Titans coach Mike Munchak would like Colin Kaepernick to keep doing exactly what he’s not doing: running.

In five of the 49ers’ six games this season, Kaepernick has rushed for fewer than 23 yards. In his last four games, he’s averaged 15.8 yards, and he’s had 172 yards this season. That’s nine fewer than he had in last season’s division-playoff win against the Packers, which helped inspire an avalanche of how-will-defenses-stop-the-read-option stories in the offseason.
Munchak’s message in advance of the 49ers’ visit on Sunday: Keep it up, Colin.

“I hope he continues not to run against us,” he said on a conference call this morning with the Bay Area media.

That sounded like a one-liner, but Munchak went on to hail San Francisco’s approach with their franchise quarterback.

“I don’t think he should run,” he said. “You don’t want a quarterback running so much. You’re not going to hold up. I don’t care who you are. And so I think it’s smart. The less he runs probably the better … I think when you have Frank Gore you want him running the ball as much as possible”

Pyro's take: I find it hilarious that Munchak would say this, and I am also very happy he did. Munchak is using the old scare sell tactic to keep Kaepernick from running against him, but, as often happens with this sales approach, it is going to backfire on him.

I have been screaming at my television all season, while watching 49er games, for Colin to RUN!!! He will be a much more successful quarterback by keeping defenses off guard and opening more opportunities for his receivers to get open. Munchak is trying to get a win and is hoping that warning of injury will stop him from running, but here’s to hoping that backfires and we see the running gunning Kap this weekend.

d-Rx's #1 QB will continue to shine

"From the time he started all the way up to the Super Bowl, totally different guy right now," Vernon Davis said of Kaepernick. "Touch. Precise decisions. He's talking more. He's being a leader. He's working extra hard. I don't know if you guys know, he is not just a worker on the field, but he is a worker in the weight room. Every time I turn around, he’s working. You are going to get 110 percent out of this guy."

Pyro's take: Colin is an elite talent, and what's even better is that he wants to be great. The 49ers are the Super Bowl favorites heading into 2013 and a lot of that hinges on the third year QB.

I would be surprised if he didn't end this season with the most fantasy points of any player at any position, and it's in large part to his work ethic and growth as a player that will allow him to be the best. Harbaugh loves him, and he knows a thing or two about QBs.

One thing I am sure of, even with Crabtree down - #7 is going to explode on numerous occasions this season!
