Samuel Back in Pads

Pyro's take: Curtis Samuel was back in full pads for today's practice (Wednesday), he has missed almost all of training camp with a hamstring problem that began as a issue in the spring. He's been out for so long that it's hard to see him having a immediate early-season role.

Fantasy Goo: Samuel is the ultimate utility knife if he can get healthy, he can pick up the big plays vacated by Ginn and match anything fellow rookie McCaffrey does in the passing game.

Which Carolina Receivers Step Up?

Pyro's take: “Receiver Devin Funchess made several big catches and continues to have an excellent camp. ookie receiver Curtis Samuel was again unable to practice on Sunday. The second-round draft pick has missed all but one camp practice with a hamstring injury.”

Fantasy Goo: These receivers are unlikely to play the same role in the offense and Carolina will need them both to be successful in order to implement their new offensive scheme. Samuel is the ultimate utility knife if he can get healthy, he can pick up the big plays vacated by Ginn and match anything fellow rookie McCaffrey does in the passing game. Funchess has disappointed us so far, but keep in mind there is still plenty of room for growth being that he is younger and bigger than heralded rookie Kenny Golladay.

#ExplosionFactor Rookies

Pyro's take: The 3 most explosive running backs from the 2017 NFL Draft based on “breakaway percentage,” which is the percentage of rushing yards earned on plays 15 yards or more are: Joe Mixon (Bengals) scored a 57.3 percent, Curtis Samuel (Panthers) had 53.8 percent and Marlon Mack (Colts) had a carry of 15+ yards on 52.3 percent of his carries last season in college.

Fantasy Goo: You know we love explosive players here at Pyro, and these 3 players fit the bill. We never like to end up with too many rookies on our rosters but Marlon Mack and recently turned to wideout Curtis Samuel are going in the teens in fantasy football drafts at the moment. Worth the ADP in my opinion. If you love Mixon, go for it, but it'll cost you if he's a backup his rookie season behind Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard. #ExplosionFactor

Panthers Draft Speedy WR

Pyro's take: The Panthers drafted Samuel early in round two to join McCaffrey in their new-look offense.

Fantasy Goo: Samuel has many of the same strong points as McCaffrey, so it will be interesting to see how they use him. He should get limited work in the slot and push to take over the Tedd Ginn stretch the field role as well.
