2009 Review

dallas clark praying to god

No Marvin?  No problem.  It’s been a steady rise for Dallas Clark over the past 5-6 years, and now it seems the gun finally caught up to the bullet during the 2009 season.  The fact is, looking at his numbers alone doesn’t do proper justice to the year he actually had.  In a season full of question marks and inexperienced faces, Clark stood out as the most dependable target for Manning throughout it all.  He came up with big receptions and first downs time and time again and if it weren’t for Colts owner Bill Polian, he might have led his team to an undefeated season.  100 catches, 1,100 yards, and 10 touchdowns is a career year for any wide receiver, let alone for a tight end.  If this is the type of production we can expect him to have in the future, Dallas Clark might just be the new fantasy TE sheriff in town.

2010 Fantasy Outlook

Anything is possible with Peyton Manning calling the signals, but to expect Clark to repeat his 2009 numbers might be a bit too hopeful.  Seeing him come back down to Earth and put up around 80 catches, 900+ yards, and around 8-9 TDs might be a more realistic forecast, but that still keeps him in the Top-5 tight ends in the league, and probably closer to #1 than #5.  He has the potential to be the best TE in the game, especially playing for an offensive juggernaut like the Colts, so making him the first tight end off the board in 2010 fantasy drafts is not a stretch in the slightest.

~ Manning is Manning, so not a lot will change from 2009 to 2010

~ With Gonzalez coming back, the offense might be opened up even more for Clark

~ Knowing the relationship between Manning and Harrison in the past, gaining Manning’s trust last year will go a long way for Clark

His game

He runs the 40-yard dash in 4.54 seconds, which is among the top five TE’s in the league.  He's a matchup nightmare, which means he' s too fast for most linebackers and at 6’3”, 252 lbs, he can flatten any defensive back.  He has solid hands and quickness, but there's nothing special about his blocking ability – which suits his fantasy owners just fine.  Clark also brings a couple of intangibles to the mix in that he's a smart football player who is adept at finding the soft spot in a zone and, as already stated, is prolific in the red-zone.  He's also just as comfortable going over the middle as he is running a quick-out.

Sick talent.

Injury Report

Green

Although Clark had missed games every year in the past due to nagging injuries (ankle, thigh, knee, groin, neck, concussion, etc.), he played in all 16 games last year and is set for the 2010 season
