Woodhead Heals From ACL Signs With Baltimore

Pyro's take: The former Charger and Patriot receiving back has now signed with the Ravens to bolster their running back community.

Fantasy Goo: If anything this shows that the Ravens are not ready to commit to Kennith Dixon as a workhorse back. This is also not as pass happy of an offense as either former team so expect lower end of season production from Woodhead.

Could Veteran Utility Player Dexter McCluster Be A Viable Replacement For Danny Woodhead? The Chargers Think So

The San Diego Chargers

Pyro's take: The San Diego Chargers are "expected" to sign free agent RB Dexter McCluster.

Fantasy Goo: The Chargers will likely replace Danny Woodhead, who was lost for the season this week, with all-purpose running back Dexter McCluster. McCluster could fill the role in San Diego's passing game that Woodhead left behind and quickly garner fantasy value. He would serve well as a third down pass catching specialist to pair up with second year back Melvin Gordon who should garner early down and goaline work. If signed, McCluster should be considered a must-add on the fantasy bench for upside purposes alone.

Danny's Done, Go for Gordon

DW, MG

Pyro's take: Danny Woodhead suffered a season-ending ACL tear Sunday versus the Jacksonville Jaguars, per NFL.com.

Fantasy goo: This is a pretty devastating blow for Woodhead owners, as he's been a PPR machine since he arrived in San Diego. However, Melvin Gordon received his largest workload as a Charger with 24 carries Sunday and Rivers didn't seem to miss a beat. It's probably a week too late to grab him, but Gordon may be set for a tremendous workload this season.

The Tyrell Corporation

“It’s someone’s opportunity,” wide receiver Tyrell Williams said. “Pick it up.”

Pyro's take: “It’s someone’s opportunity,” wide receiver Tyrell Williams said. “Pick it up.” This is not a situation the Chargers wanted. Alas, it is reality. Allen is out for the season, having torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee Sunday against the Chiefs.

Fantasy Goo: The Tyrell Corporation is a corporation from the 1982 Ridley Scott film Blade Runner. Tyrell Williams is a player to keep your trigger finger on if you cannot land Travis Benjamin. Philip Rivers is known for airing it out but, he does not have any familiar weapons outside of Antonio Gates. Danny Woodhead could be in for a large workload for 2016 if you need RB help and especially for PPR leagues. Tyrell Williams is a super cheap DFS salary if you want to save a buck. Dontrelle Inman is also going to get some more pigskins this year.

Danny Boy Expected To BE A Go For Chargers Camp

San Diego Chargers

Pyro's take: San Diego Chargers RB Danny Woodhead (ankle) is expected to be ready for the team's training camp that begins on July 29. (Tom Krasovic of the San Diego Union Tribune)

Fantasy Goo: Danny Woodhead is coming off of a solid 2015 season with the Chargers where he led the team's running backs in statistical production. Woodhead appeared in all 16 games last year with San Diego and finished the season with 335 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The vast majority of his numbers came as a receiver out of the backfield where he caught 81 receptions for 756 yards and six scores. For fantasy purposes, Woodhead is a PPR goldmine and should continue his fortune in the upcoming campaign. Consider the veteran rusher a low-end RB2 with tremendous upside as it is still unknown if Melvin Gordon could handle being a lead back in the NFL which translates to more touches for Woodhead. A point of interest: Woodhead was targeted 106 times in 2015.

Danny Woodhead Rolls his Ankle

Danny Woodhead

Pyro's take: Danny Woodhead got his ankle rolled up under a defensive lineman in camp. Woodhead is expected to be healthy going into training camp after the San Diego Charger's 6 week break.

Fantasy Goo: Woodhead lead the Chargers in 2015 with 80 receptions, 755 rec yards, and 6 touchdowns. Woodhead will be 32 this season but has little to no wear on his body. He has amassed 923 touches in his career. Expect some regression from Woodhead with a healthy Keenan Allen cutting into his targets.

Danny Woodhead rushed six times for 33 yards and caught 6-of-10 targets for 78 yards and one touchdown

DW

Pyro's take: Woodhead was targeted even more due to Keenan Allen being out of the lineup. He was second in targets behind Antonio Gates with 10 and Malcom Floyd was injured and could be out for the rest of the season,

He should be started in all formats, especially in PPR leagues. He scored from 14-yards out and is the goal line back.

Danny Woodhead rushed four times for 10 yards and caught 5-of-7 targets for 66 yards

DW

Pyro's take: Woodhead didnt do too much damage with in his running game, but did what does in the passing game. Keep him rolling in your PPR leagues as the Chargers face the Packers in week 6.

O-line Woes for Chargers w/ a Potential 4 Starters Out in Week #4

oline woes

Pyro's take: The Chargers have 2 starting Olinemen ruled out for Week #4, another is doubtful, and the 4th is questionable. This seriously inhibits Rivers ability to pass the ball to Woodhead, and certainly affects the running game as well.

Woodhead has 100% of Team's Red Zone Rushes

Woodhead 100% of red zone rushing attempts for team

Pyro's take: Woodhead, after 2 weeks, has all 7 of San Diego's red zonwe rushes. Again, he has 100% of the team's reds zone running attempts. Not only that, he even has 2 red zone targets. IF this keeps up, not only is he a monsteer in PPR, but standard as well.

Gordon to see Red Zone carries

MG

Pyro's take: Chargers OC Frank Reich expects Melvin Gordon to see "more than his share" of red-zone work.

Danny Woodhead was the beneficiary last week due to game flow and the fact that Gordon coughed up a fumble. Woodhead allowed the Chargers feel at ease as he delivered, but San Diego feels Gordon gives them the best possibility in the long run.

Woodhead is the bet for ppr while Gordon for standard.

Melvin Gordon project 220-250 carries

MG

Pyro's take: The San Diego Union-Tribune expects Melvin Gordon to see between 220 and 250 carries this season.

This looks like a solid projection as Gordon needs to be replaced on third downs. Danny Woodhead will be the third down specialtist while Branden Oliver will be the backup.

Gordon has a tough matchup this week against the Lions, so I would only use Melvin Gordon as a flex play.
