David Cobb is aiming to be the Titans' starting running back in 2016.

DC

Pyro's take: David Cobb expressed his thoughts about wanting to be the starting running back next season.

“I want to be a starter next year,’’ Cobb said. “That is my expectation. Not to be cocky, but that is what I am going to work toward and if I fall short I am going to keep working until I get there.”

“It is kind of the same thing I went through at Minnesota,’’ Cobb said. “I didn’t get to play my first couple of years, and I didn’t get the ball. I just had to work, and keep working. Eventually things kind of fell in line and I got an opportunity.

“The key is when you have an opportunity to have to take advantage of it.”

“I thought I played OK. I wish I had a couple of runs back, I wish I had a couple of plays back. But at the same time I was happy to finally get out there and let loose, and feel the emotions of a full game. That went well, but in the offseason there is a lot to work on,’’ Cobb said.

“But I think it gives me just a little confidence going into the offseason. … Just to get back out there healthy and run around with it, that was good.”

“It would have been nice to get in there a little more this season, so it was frustrating. You want to get into a rhythm and in a flow, but it didn’t happen. So I am definitely not satisfied. You have higher expectations when you know you can play. But I plan to work hard this offseason and put myself in a position where I’ll be ready to go next year. I want to be a guy who makes a difference.”

Mike Mularkey said he wanted to get David Cobb more carries Week 12.

DC

Pyro's take: Via Jim Wyatt

Titans interim coach Mike Mularkey said he’d like to see more from Cobb moving forward. He’d also like to see more from the running game after it failed to have success in Sunday’s loss to the Raiders.

Cobb had four carries against the Jaguars in a 19-13 loss on November 19, and he was expected to get more vs. Oakland as the team planned to add to his workload. But Cobb had just three carries against Oakland, for only eight yards.

“That really wasn’t the plan, it was to get him more involved,’’ Mularkey said of Cobb. “Obviously we didn’t rush the ball as many times as we anticipated in the first half, with seven rushes. We have to do a better job of that as coaches to try and establish the run. I don’t care if it’s seven yards on seven carries. We have been in situations like that where we had 20 yards after 13 carries and came back and gained 80. We have to try and establish the run a little better in the first half and he has to be a part of that…We definitely want to get (Cobb) more chances.”

David Cobb rushed four times for -3 yards

DC

Pyro's take: Cobb's carries went for two, one, -3 and -3 yards. Looks like the combination of a bad offensive line and a mediocre running backs is not what the Titans wanted to see.

David Cobb (calf) expects to be activated from injured reserve

DC

Pyro's take: Terry McCormick has stated via Twitter "David Cobb said he expects to be activated from IR this week"

Titans need someone at running back in the worst way possible, hopefully Cobb can give them immediate help.

David Cobb is placed on the injured reserve/designated for return

c

Pyro's take: David Cobb won't play the first 9 games of the 2015 season for the Titans. He may not play much at all now that the Titans acquired Terrance West from the Browns for a conditional 7th round pick. Hard to like the running game for this team, no matter who is lined up in the backfield.
