Spread The Fire

Get Money, Get Paid

Pyro's take: The Raiders have locked up their QB for the future by giving him the richest contract in NFL history. Carr signed the extension for 5 years $125 million.

Fantasy Goo: We all expected Carr to be in Oakland for the foreseeable future, however there has been a history of players having down years right after inking big deals. Be on the look out for any news that implies Carr is getting complacent with his money. Otherwise, Carr is still a low end QB1 with some weekly upside.

I Drink My Coffee Iced Even in the Winter

Pyro's take: Per reports, Derek Carr has played 3 professional football games in weather under 50 degrees. In those games he has failed to throw for over 200 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Fantasy Goo: Take the cold weather and combine this with the status of Carr's dislocated fingers. Stay away from Carr in all formats as he is a good candidate to be the poop in your pants while looking at an early post season exit.

Carr Could be in the Driver's Seat for a Nice Week 12 Game

Pyro's take: Oakland is allowing the fewest QB hits so far this season. Thus, Carr has more time to complete his passes, less nervous feet in the pocket, fewer TOs.

Fantasy Goo: Look, a solid O-line is good for business, and business in that regard is booming. At $6100 on Draft Kings, he is a great play going against a defense that just lost Luke Kuechly. That is going to have a tremendously positive effect on the Raiders ability to sustain drives and ultimately, put up points. In fact, for fantasy purposes, Carr is already putting up the pts. In Draft Kings, he tosses out a plus 20 FF Point game 60% of his 2016 games.

Look, Up in the Sky, It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's a Carr

Pyro's take: DC Comics (yup, he's a superhero!) came out of the 2016 gates in stride. He hung 319 and passed for 1 against the Saints as he helped them to a Week #1 win. He finished as the #12 fantasy QB.

Fantasy Goo: The Raiders are home to the Falcons in Week #2 with an implied team total of 26.25. Both Cooper and Crabtree have favorable WR/CB matchups according to PFF. A healthy Cooper was on display in early September. If things in Oakland keep firing on all cylinders, they might, dare I say they might surpass the 7.5 games Vegas has them pegged to win.

Cooper Reveals Injuires Plagued His Season

da breakout

Pyro's take: In a recent interview, the second-year Oakland receiver cited two injuries that slowed his season. NFL reporter Chris Wesseling stated Amari: "played through a mid-November quadriceps injury and suffered the foot injury in practice leading up to Week 14". Before the injury, he was on pace for 8 TDs and just over 1,300 yards. It could also explain Carr's Dickensian Tale of Two "Halves".

Fantasy goo: There was certainly a noticeable difference. Carr put up five 20 point fantasy games in his first 8 last year with a healthy Cooper. A feat he only accomplished once in his last 8 games. If indeed Cooper's diminished play is due to an injury, then he will certainly be in-line for a major uptick in stats. He is currently coming off the board at the back end of the 2nd round in PPR formats.

AC / DC To Work On Thier Connection In Raiders Camp

Oakland Raiders

Pyro's take: Oakland Raiders QB Derek Carr and WR Amari Cooper are expected to "work on gaining more familiarity" with each other in training camp according to ESPN's Paul Gutierrez. Cooper finished the 2015 season with 10 dropped passes which were second-most in the NFL.

Fantasy Goo: Derek Carr is entering his third NFL season in 2016 and could take another step into the direction of the NFL's elite. Carr has 53 touchdowns passes over his first two seasons in the league which is second-most all-time to Hall of Famer Dan Marino's 68. If Carr and Amari Cooper can fine-tune their connection, they could become a deadly tandem for years to come. Carr should be considered a borderline QB1/QB2 in the upcoming fantasy football campaign and is poised to have a career year in 2016.

Derek Carr in elite company when it comes to throwing touchdowns

Pyro's take: Oakland quarterback Derek Carr has put himself in very nice company when it comes to throwing touchdown passes. With one game remaining in his second NFL season, Carr has 52 career TD passes, tying him with Peyton Manning and Russell Wilson for the second-most in a quarterback's first two seasons. Carr is in position to move into second place behind Dan Marino, who threw 68 touchdown passes in his first two NFL seasons. -- Bill Williamson

Driving Carr to the DK Bank in Week 11

Pyro's take: Carr is only $6300 on Draft Kings. He faces the Lions who are 1 of 3 Defs that are giving up an average of over 20 FF Points per game to opposing QBs. The Lions are banged up in the secondary and may be starting a 3rd string at CB, Crezdon Butler. Their starting outside backer gets the lowest grade at the position by PFF. This game is a potential shoot out, it carries the highest Vegas over under expectation. Carr has tossed over 300 yards in each of the last three games. In his last 4, he's tossed 13 TDs to just 3 Ints.

11/21/15, 06:54 PM CST by PyromaniacMo

Derek Carr completed 29-of-43 passes for 302 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions

Pyro's take: Carr couldnt really get anything going. The Vikings had both Cooper and Crabtree locked up all day, which forced him into being "check-down charlie" for most of the game. He earned most of his yards in garbage time.

The Raiders will now face an easier match up against the Lions.

Carr Batterd but Playing in Week 2

Carr to play

Pyro's take: Carr, although his hand is banged up, he will not wear any restrictive device, and is slated to play in week 2.

Carr Looks ready for week 2

Pyro's take: Senior NFL Alex Marvez writer mention via twitter that "Del Rio said QB Derek Carr looks in "good shape" as far as practicing & playing this week after negative x-rays on bruised thumb."

Carr in shop for Week 2, possibly longer

Pyro's take: Derek Carr is undergoing an MRI on his injured throwing hand, and is expected to miss Week 2.

Raiders have "reached out" to free agent Christian Ponder, suggesting they fear a multi-week absence for Carr.

Matt McGloin will start in Carr's absence.

Ankle and Thumb

According to Raiders report, Derek Carr was limited in practice today due to an injured ankle and thump. Steve Corkran mnetioned via twitter that "Derek Carr said he hurt his right thumb when he hit it on the helmet of a Chiefs defender. He said the ankle he hurt against Chiefs is fine."

Pyro's take: Coach Tony Sparano said Carr made all throws in practice and isn't worried about his status for Sunday's game. Carr has a matchup with Buffalo's top-five pass defense in Week 16, so you may want to leave him on your bench.

Carr Banged Up

Derek Carr has still not practiced due to injuries to his ankle and knees. Everything should still be full-systems go, the Raiders are just giving their prized rookie a rest, for this upcoming game. "Oakland interim coach Tony Sparano said Carr didn't look hindered in the game by the injuries albeit for one instance. Sparano liked what he saw from Carr on Wednesday in practice."

Pyro's take: I dont think Carr is an automatic start at this point, but he is getting there, and especially for owners, who are suffering through bye-weeks. He has shed any light that his brother may have caused, and is doing things the Houston Texans thought older brother David was going to bring to the table. Either way, the Raiders cleaned up with Khalif Barnes and Derek Carr this season.

Carr ready to start

The Oakland Raiders informed their players that Derek Carr would be the starter for week one over Matt Schaub, via Jay Glazer twitter @JayGlazer. Glazer may have gotten the information from head coach Dennis Allen. "Glazer has good relationship with Raiders coach Dennis Allen from the time when Allen worked on the staff of Sean Payton with the New Orleans Saints." Rumors began to float that Derek Carr may become the starting quarterback after Matt Schaub missed playing against Seattle, while Carr really stood out. He completed 11 of 13 passes for 143 yards and three touchdowns.

Pyro's take: Derek Carr finished his 2013 college season leading the country with 4,866 passing yards and 48 touchdowns. He stands at 6-3 and weighs 215 pounds, so he is a sturdy quarterback. He has a very strong arm, and has solid accuracy, but may have troubles when throwing the ball in a scramble or hurried situation as he showed against USC in the Vegas bowl.

Carr should be considered in all leagues and placed on your watch list if not drafted and available.

A tweaked out Carr

Derek Carr is doing some wonders in camp, and has the Oakland Raiders smiling. One of the aspects that the coaching staff had Carr change was the widening of his feet. This keeps him low and allows him to drive off his stance, becoming more accurate, and more balanced."The ball is getting out quicker," offensive coordinator Greg Olson said. "His drop step was way too high, and now he is keeping both feet on the ground. He has great upper-body mechanics, and now he is much more balanced."

Derek Carr went on to say that he was "hoppy" when he was playing at Fresno State "Which could at times make me inaccurate in college," Carr said. "So one thing they've really done is widen my base. That helps, too, getting hit in the pocket, if you get nudged and stuff, you can still have that good, strong base.

"I've been able to do that and get the ball out. I like to get the ball out quick in the first place, but they've trained me to get it out quicker, which I love. It helps."

The next step for Carr is to see how he reacts to live pressure. His first glimpse will be Friday against the Minnesota Vikings.

Pyro's take: Derek Carr is in one of those positions that could lead to a starting job by seasons end. He has showed that he can get the job done in camp, and has full knowledge of the playbook. If the Raiders stumble this season, or Matt Schaub gets hurt, look for Carr to step-in. This makes him an interesting late pick for keeper leagues, and a solid one for Dynasty owners.
