Titans Backs Dominate PFF Preseason Grades

d

Pyro's take: According to the grades determined by Pro Football Focus, Henry and Murray, the two Titans RBs, shined in the preseason. On a points per snap basis, an excellent statistic in determining talent and current ability, they beat all other offensive skill positions sans the QB. Henry led by putting up .56 FF Points every snap. His teammate, DeMarco Murray, was right behind him logging .54 FF Points per snap in standard scoring. As a point of reference, the 18th best player in this statistical category averaged .31.

Fantasy Goo: The efficiency displayed by the two Tennessee backs is quite impressive. I thought Henry looked outstanding. d-Rx is a big fan of Murray ranking him inside his top 10 at the position for the year. Plus, Malarkey and company, are attempting to employ a run-heavy scheme. My only hesitation stems from potential game-scripts. According to Vegas, the Titans are just 1 of 3 clubs that are predicted to win less than 6 games this season. So, in all likely-hood, they will need to pass early and often. However, there are more reasons to be excited about the team and the ground game then there are causes for concern. After all, if Mariota does indeed take a step forward, this could be a surprisingly talented fantasy squad.

Henry catches the attention of the ZOMBIES

Entering the game in the second quarter of Saturday's game against San Diego at Nissan Stadium, Henry had an immediate impact on the game.

Pyro's take: Entering the game in the second quarter of Saturday's game against San Diego at Nissan Stadium, Henry had an immediate impact on the game. He rushed 10 times for 74 yards in the quarter. Among his carries was a 6-yard touchdown run. Among his carries was a 6-yard touchdown run.

Fantasy Goo: And just like that one of my sleepers has just become a round more expensive to draft. Derrick Henry is going to backup DeMarco (also scored and looked GREAT) heading into this season. Henry could pound his self into additional playing time during the season if Murray slips like he did in Philly in 2015. For fantasy purposes Henry will be tough to predict on draft day because we all know there are owners who go ape-shit over preseason success. Now we know that Derrick Henry is not going to be a sleeper and has been outed like Glenn from The Walking Dead when he is banging his broad and the zombies smell her or hear the two of them bumping unwashed organs. Someone tell Carl he is killing the show. Since Carl is becoming a young man maybe he will spend most of his time beating off behind the barn and off my TV.

I'll hand the ball off 40 times a game if we win games

In the offseason, the Titans brought in RB DeMarco Murray and C Ben Jones.

Pyro's take: In the offseason, the Titans brought in RB DeMarco Murray and C Ben Jones. In the draft, they added Michigan State OT Jack Conklin and Alabama RB Derrick Henry. Those additions alone should improve a running game that was 25th out of 32 NFL teams last season. Marcus Mariota, "I told Coach Mike (Mularkey) that I'll hand the ball off 40 times a game if we win games. That's what's important to me, to giving us an opportunity to win. Having those two workhorses back there should help us out."

Fantasy Goo: Fantasy owners do not want to hear about a QB handing off 40 times per game however unlikely that could be. DeMarco and Derrick do have the keys to the car if they can drive which is great for whoever drafts either of the running backs. In the NFL football it is nice to assist your young QB with a sweet running game. A couple negatives for fantasy owners from this is that the clock expires rapidly while the running game chews the clock with each run and there being one less pass play. Three runs that end up in a three-in-out are what nightmares are made of for fantasy owners.

King Henry Catching On

Mularkey said @KingHenry_2 has been very impressive as a pass catcher. Since he's a big body, makes him even more dangerous.

Pyro's take: Mularkey said @KingHenry_2 has been very impressive as a pass catcher. Since he's a big body, makes him even more dangerous. Jim Wyatt @jwyattsports

Fantasy Goo: Derrick Henry at 6’3” and 247 pounds hopes to be this eras Earl Campbell (the Titans were once the Oilers). Both weight and speed (both clocked 4.5 forty times) are punishing similarities. Yes, he is no Earl Campbell yet, and odds are against him slaughtering defenders as The Tyler Rose once did but, we have to let him go out on the field and let him show us what he has. Ahead of Derrick Henry is DeMarco Murray who has a long college and pro history of injury. The year Murray won the rushing title he had broken his hand and like a trooper he played through the pain. A young and hungry Henry will be nipping at Murray’s jersey for his own playing time and if Henry simply outplays DeMarco then playing time will come. In fantasy drafts owners usually select their handcuffs late but, you will have to go one round or two earlier than you might want to if you feel like rolling the dice.

Derrick Henry Sure Handed Out Of The Backfield During Titans Camp

Reports out of Tennessee

Pyro's take: Reports out of Tennessee are Derrick Henry has impressed the coaching staff with his receiving abilities in camp. Henry only caught 17 passes during his collegiate career at Alabama.

His receiving skills were considered a negative for the Heisman Trophy winner by many draft analysts, but it seems his lack of receiving production could have more to do with Alabama's offensive philosophy than Henry's actual skill level. If he is able to continue to show good hands it could mean Henry will see the field more often than previously anticipated. Furthermore, it is great news for dynasty and keeper league owners since this can open the door for Henry to be a complete three down back in the future. Not-to-mention the positive effect it could have in PPR leagues. Henry has impressed on many levels so far in camp, but so has the presumptive starting RB DeMarco Murray. Either way, Henry will get his share of the carries this season, and may earn the starting job at some point. He should be on fantasy owner's radar in the later rounds of the draft.
