2009 Review

desean jackson header graphic pyromaniac.com

DJax?  Nah.  Too easy, too over-used.  Action Jackson?  Same thing.  Long Gone DeSean?  Ehh, not bad.  Fraction Jackson?  Getting better.  Uno Cero?  Funny, but one of those in the NFL is quite enough, thank you.  Basically, after the year DeSean Jackson had in 2009, the kid obviously needs a nickname.  Look at his TDs for instance.  Most fans would consider a 60-yard touchdown something special to see.  Now get this:  The average distance of DeSean’s first 10 touchdowns in 2009 (7 receiving, 1 rush, 2 punt returns) was 61.3 yards per TD!!!  If that kind of stat doesn’t deserve a nickname, I don’t know what does.  The only problem with Jackson’s game is that he’s so fast, it makes it really tough to watch him play.  I always feel like I need a new flat-screen TV or an eye-test or something after an Eagles game because frankly, every time he touches the ball, he just ends up looking like a little green blur cruising across the screen.

desean jackson 2009 stats

~ Led the league in punt return average (15.2 yards/attempt) and punt return TDs (2)

~ Set career bests in receptions (63), receiving yards (1,167), receiving TDs (9, 12 total), yards/reception (18.5), yards/game (77.8), rushing yards (137), and yards from scrimmage (1,304)

~ Made his first Pro-Bowl team

2010 Fantasy Outlook

DeSean put up the fourth most WR fantasy points in the league last year… and did it in just 15 games.  He’s not the type that will ever catch you a ton of passes, so he might not be an elite PPR guy, but his quickness and big-play ability are unrivaled across the league, so he consistently has a chance to give you something each week.  His receptions and yards should both be around the same this season as they were in 2009, but can he continue to catch lightning in a bottle by putting up 70-yard TDs every other Sunday?  Probably not, which likely sets him up as an elite WR2 in your fantasy league come 2010.

~ Can Kevin Kolb run the show any better than McNabb did during DeSean’s first two seasons?

~ Talented second-year wideout Jeremy Maclin will steal some of the spotlight in 2010

~ With the West Coast offense that Andy Reid runs, Jackson may not get as many downfield opportunities as he did in 2009

The Eagles locked down Jackson to a four-year, $3.058 million contract in July of ’08 that included a $1.353 million signing bonus and a $391,000 roster bonus in 2009.  This are how the final two years wash out:

2010 - $470,000 (+ $335,000 roster bonus)

2011 - $555,000

Injury Report

With DeSean being on the smallish side, he's more susceptible to injury than most. He also sustained a back injury at the beginning of training camp, but seems to be okay after resting it for a week. We're going to suggest being cautious, but will give him the green light anyway

Winston to D-Jax

Pyro's take: DeSean Jackson has reportedly joined the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He will continue to play the deep threat role for Jameis adding a valuable second option.

Fantasy Goo: Mike Evans saw the most targets in the NFL last year so this number should regress with Jackson. It should open up lanes for TE Cameron Brate. Expect Jackson to be a boom or bust player weekly and remain around the 1000 yard mark in the Bucs offense.

Killer Matchup for D-Jacks in a Revenge Game

Pyro's take: DeSean will face his old team, the Eagles, in Week 14.

Fantasy Goo: Not only do you have the revenge narrative, but he flat out has an amazing matchup. Jackson will square off against the Eagles corner McKelvin. He gives up a full FF Point for every two routes run. Of the 96 starting corners this week, there is not a single one that gives up as much fantasy production to opposing WRs.

GPP Fire In Revenge Game

Pyro's take: DeSean is priced at 5800FD/ 5200DK is a solid boom play. Cousins forces Jackson the ball vs his old team with 9 targets last time they faced up which led the team.

Fantasy Goo: He is slated to be covered by Leodis McKelvin, who gives up a fantasy point per every 2 routes. He has been torched the last two weeks by Jordy & Adams (200yds 2TDs) and LaFell (95yds 1TD). DeSean should be a stud in this one.

Reed Likely to Miss Week 13

Pyro's take: Reed's labrum still has limited motion, unless his recovery goes into Godspeed expect Reed to be out this week.

Fantasy Goo: All Reed owners must go cuff him with Vernon Davis even though they have a negative match up versus the Cardinals. This boosts the rankings of Jamison Crowder and D-Jax if he is healthy enough to go.

DeSean Jackson is Doubtful

Pyro's take: Rapoport already reported he is out with a rotator cuff.

Fantasy Goo: Still officially Doubtful, I am making other plans.

Jackson Out Week 10

Pyro's take: The big play Redskins WR is not going to play this week per Redskins SPORTalk on twitter.

FantasyGoo: With DeSean out against the stout Purple People Eaters this week, Xavier Rhodes could shadow Reed or Garcon. Reed is a must play in a shallow TE field, but keep an eye out for Crowder in the short game if you are in PPR leagues.

DeSean Jackson participated at OTA on Monday

"Last time I looked up the word voluntary, it's his choice," Jay Gruden said.

Pyro's take: "Last time I looked up the word voluntary, it's his choice," Jay Gruden said. "He knows what type of shape he needs to come in. He'll be ready to go." His absence did not bother the quarterback. “He knows what is best for him and what he needs to get ready for the fall,” said Kirk Cousins.

Fantasy Goo: Mr. Jackson, if you‘re nasty. DeSean Jackson could be a big jumper in this year’s wide receiver tiers and draft spots. Kirk Cousins looks like the best Redskins quarterback in a very long time. The collection of DeSean Jackson, Pierre Garcon and Josh Doctson along with tight end Jordan Reed will be challenging to defenses in 2016. Jackson is still the bread winner for wide receivers on the team if he wants it. DeSean is a very hot or cold player to roster so be ready to cheer and cry if you take him in 2016. He will go as far as Kirk Cousins lets him go. The NFC East is full of defenses that cannot cover receivers.

Rookie Josh Doctson puts a wrench in the socket for DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon

Pyro's take: When rookie Josh Doctson was drafted both DeSean Jackson and Pierre Garcon felt a blow. One will go, but both could be gone.

Right now, I would say Garcon is most likely the man out of the equation, but Jackson is 30 and filled with injuries, so it may not be surprising to see both walk off into the sunset.

DeSean Jackson (knee) is probable for Week 15 against the Bills.

Pyro's take: Master Tesfatsion via Twitter "DeSean Jackson (knee) is listed as probable. He's been limited over the last two practices #Redskins"

DeSean Jackson (knee) expects to play against the Bills.

Pyro's take: “It’s all right,” Jackson said Tuesday evening. “It’s a little sore and banged up a little bit. But it’s nothing too serious that would keep me out. I played through it.”

The injury occurred in the third quarter of Sunday’s 24-21 victory over the Bears when Jackson made a diving catch near the sideline. A hobbled Jackson returned to the game but was in considerable discomfort afterward.

“I don’t want people to think it’s too serious,” he said. “It will be all right. I’ll be good.”

DeSean Jackson is day to day with a "patella contusion."

Pyro's take: Washington Redskins via Twitter "Gruden: WR DeSean Jackson is day-to-day with a patella contusion. Says RT Morgan Moses was evaluated for, but did not have, a concussion."

Begin making plans for your playoffs, but stay updated on this situation as well.

DeSean Jackson to get more looks

Pyro's take: The other player worth mentioning is receiver DeSean Jackson, who caught just four passes against the Giants last season, his first with Washington. But the Redskins want him to get more than the 11 combined targets of the past two games. "We have to try to get him more looks," Redskins coach Jay Gruden said. -- John Keim

Giving it a Go in Week 9

Pyro's take: Desean has not played since Week 1 but it looks like he is going to suit up for Week 9. HE should draw a tough matchup with Butler, Garcon has a nicer CB matchup vs. Justin Coleman, but if DeSean IS really healthy, and I have to believe he is, then I think they look to get him involved early.

DJax has the green light

Pyro's take: DeSean Jackson after eight weeks of football finally has the go ahead to play in this weeks game. Jackson himself stated: "Everything's a green light for Sunday," said Jackson, who added that he was medically cleared to return. "I'm good and ready to go, man."

Jay Gruden admits DeSean Jackson (hamstring) is questionable for Week 7

Pyro's take: Mike Jones stated via twitter "Gruden still unsure about Jackson for Tampa because he tweaked hamstring again last Thursday. Will know more Wednesday he hopes."

Jackson just cant seem to find his way on to the field. Let's hope this latest setback wont prevent him from missing any more games.

DeSean Jackson (hamstring) has been downgraded to out for Week 6.

Pyro's take: DeSean Jackson (hamstring) has been downgraded to out for Week 6. Jamison Crowder's breakout over the last three games, allows Jackson to not be rushed to perform. He should be ready for week 7.

DeSean Jackson (hamstring) participated in individual drills 10/07/15

Pyro's take: DeSean Jackson is finally participating in drills but he needs to be 100% healthy for the Redskins to maximize his skills. He is still day-to-day. Keep an eye out for this update as it creeps closer to the weekend.

Jackson to miss 3-4 Weeks

Pyro's take: Adam Schefter has tweeted that the "Redskins WR Desean Jackson expected to miss three to four weeks with strained hamstring, per source."

His absence will make increase the targets to Pierre Garcon and Jordan Reed, and elevate Andre Roberts to No. 2 receiver.
