Devin Funchess

Carolina Panthers

Momentum vs Match-Up

Since Kelvin Benjamin was traded, Devin Funchess has averaged 18.4 PPR PPG. That would be good enough for the WR5 on the full season.

Fantasy Goo: Funchess will be facing Xavier Rhodes this week, Rhodes has been slowed by injuries over the past few weeks, but seems to be coming back to health. I’m certainly not considering him as a WR1 this week and if you’re in the playoffs you probably have other options, but if you don’t go with what got you there.

FanDuel Triple Play- Daylight Savings Special

I'm taking advantage of these 3 players in the early games in week 9 before the sun goes down.

Jared Goff @NYG - $7,600 - The world according to Goff gets a great match up in week 9 against the Giants, who are giving up 23FPTS per game to opposing QBs this season.

Tyler Higbee @NYG - $4,500 - The Giants are the WORST team against the TE position this season. It is truly one of the constant statistical facts in the NFL year to year. Higbee has taken over at top the depth chart and I expect the Rams to come out of their bye with a game plan to get him involved. I love the stack with Goff for some great savings in your lineup.

Devin Funchess vs ATL - $6,100 - Funchess will probably be a very popular pick this week, obviously due to the departure of Kelvin Benjamin, but it's hard to get away from him at this price. I expect Funcehss to get a honey bunches of targets. Get him in your lineup while he's still cheap.

KB Sounds Like a Go in Week #7

Reports are coming out the Benjamin will play in Week #7. He went full practice Friday. Adam Schefter said he is expected to suit up.

Fantasy Goo: I was all set to toss in Funchess in my DFS. They face a much tougher defense this week in the Bears. They've only allowed one 100 yard receiver so far, and that was Antonio Brown. So, I am scaling back my Funchess stock.

Funchess Turning it On

The Panthers have found their stride in the last two games. They have an implied team total of 24 points for Thursday night. A real connection between Cam and Funchess seems to be developing. This week they are home to Philly, who has given up the most receptions so far this season. In fact, to WRs alone, Philly is the only team to have surrendered over 1,000 yards to the position. Here is the kicker, in the last 3 weeks, Funchess has 27 targets to Benjamin’s 12. Not only that, Funchess should see a majority of coverage from Jalen Mills. PFF currently ranks 98 other corner backs ahead of Mills.

Carolina Panthers

Waiver Wire Target

Funchess showed up big time this week in New England, catching seven passes for 70 yards with two touchdowns. Drops have always been a problem, but he is getting the targets now. This may be his best fantasy game of the year, but he is definitely going to be a bigger part of the passing offense going forward.

Waiver Wire Target

The Panthers do not have a lot of options at receiver, so Funchess actually becomes fantasy relevant. This week he caught four passes for 58 yards. If he can limit the drops he does have potential in a division that scores a lot of points.

Which Carolina Receivers Step Up?

“Receiver Devin Funchess made several big catches and continues to have an excellent camp. ookie receiver Curtis Samuel was again unable to practice on Sunday. The second-round draft pick has missed all but one camp practice with a hamstring injury.”

Fantasy Goo: These receivers are unlikely to play the same role in the offense and Carolina will need them both to be successful in order to implement their new offensive scheme. Samuel is the ultimate utility knife if he can get healthy, he can pick up the big plays vacated by Ginn and match anything fellow rookie McCaffrey does in the passing game. Funchess has disappointed us so far, but keep in mind there is still plenty of room for growth being that he is younger and bigger than heralded rookie Kenny Golladay.

Funch has improved a bunch

With Benjamin still not all the way back from his ACL surgery, second-year wideout Devin Funchess has been the star of OTAs. Funchess, a second-round pick last year, has shown terrific hands going across the middle, albeit in non-contact drills. That’s a good sign for a player who struggled hanging on to the ball early in his rookie year before finishing strong. Funchess, 6-4 and 225 pounds, also has looked more fluid in his routes this spring.

Fantasy Goo: Fantastic news out of Carolina’s OTAs. Cam Newton is in his prime and will now have a possibly deadly passing attack in 2016. Kelvin Benjamin, Greg Olsen (TE) and Devin Funchess could be a dominating trio for quite a few years to come and you can throw in Ted Ginn Jr who was a pleasant surprise in 2015. A productive Devin Funchess would make Cam Newton even more frustrating for opponents and fantasy owners facing him in 2016. Passing yardage was a weak point in 2015 as the Panthers ranked 24th in yards per game passing with Ryan Fitzpatrick throwing for more per week than Cam.

Funchess showed up big time this week in New England, catching seven passes for 70 yards with two touchdowns. Drops have always been a problem, but he is getting the targets now.
