Lewis RB1, Gillislee Non-Contact for Day's

Pyro's take: In the long line of “surprising” initial depth charts, Dion Lewis is listed as the RB1 on New England’s initial depth chart. This is nothing, unless there is something wrong with Gillislee, and then… “Mike Gillislee's hamstring is the reason why he's been locked onto the conditioning field for the past few days. Also an issue from OTAs.”

Fantasy Goo: There’s probably nothing to this, very few teams are having their starters play in the first preseason game. Gillislee is probably being held out of contact for precautionary reasons. Even if Gilly has the lead role, there will be other hands in the pot, with an ADP in the 4th-5th round (FFC), he’s become too rich for my blood.

Lewis in Line for the Bulk of the Work

Pyro's take: Blount will play. However, he did miss two practices this week.

Fantasy Goo: There is plenty of talk amongst analysts and beat writers about Lewis talking the major load this weekend.

Lewis Steadily Becoming a Large Piece of the Patriot Pie

Pyro's take: In the past two games, Lewis has 34 attempts. According to Jim Sannes from Number Fire, if you look just first half numbers – Lewis has out carried Blount in the past two first halves 20 -12.

Fantasy Goo:
In the last 5 weeks, Miami has:
 surrendered the 4th most rushing yards
 given up the second most PPR points,
 and no one has given up as many receptions or yards to backs coming out of the backfield

Lewis Could Be the Best Ceiling Play from the Waiver Wire RB Spot

Pyro's take: Dion Lewis has been getting more and more work since his return from injury. He will fact the Jets, a typical funnel D. But as the season has been going down the tubes, even their vaunted run D has suffered. In the last 3 weeks, they have allowed the 10th most rushing yards to opposing backs on a per game basis.

Fantasy Goo: This game carries the highest spread. This game will certainly favor the Patriot running backs. While Blount is an excellent choice and will likely get a TD, when Brady drops back, he can use the dump to Lewis much like a run play, keeping the clock moving and chewing up yards.

Lewis Looks to be a Go in week 10

Pyro's take: Dion Lewis is set to return. I am grabbing him if available, but probably not inserting him into my line-up until he knocks off the rust.

Fantasy Goo: This is a hard one to read. Lewis returns from injury so they could ease him back. What is undeniable is White's lack of usage these last 2 weeks. In Weeks 6 and 7, he had a combined 27 looks. In the last 2 weeks, he managed just 12. While I am in a holding pattern with Lewis, I am fading White in week 10

Dion Lewis Spotted Walking

Pyro's take: Dion Lewis was seen walking Friday without any ill effects from the recent knee procedure that landed him on the Patriots PUP list to start the season.

Fantasy Goo: Lewis is out for the first six games regardless of his health as he is on the PUP list. How soon he gets back after that is still not known but this is good news. Expect the Patriots to take his return slowly as he is has been known to be injury prone and the team will want him for the stretch run and postseason.

Too early to plan ahead?

Running back Dion Lewis will be sidelined for another 8-10 weeks after he endures a second surgery on his left knee, according to a source.

Pyro's take: Running back Dion Lewis will be sidelined for another 8-10 weeks after he endures a second surgery on his left knee, according to a source.

Fantasy Goo: We know that Dion Lewis is out for a long time this season. They say the second surgery is not a major surgery and even use the words minor. Lewis was said to have been having his best off-season this year. People like me could not wait to draft him (PPR especially). So, are you willing to take a risk? How much of a risk? Could you draft him now and place him on your IR until he returns? If you have space then you can try and hope none of your other players need to go to the IR if your league designates a space for IR. If not, they say he could come back by week 8. I recommend stashing him before someone else does. This will be a game of Russian roulette. Who will snipe him off your waiver wire first? Follow his recovery closely and pounce if the words are positive. Maybe by week 4 or no later than 5 you should be an early bird or your opponent will use him during the fantasy playoffs against YOU!!

Dion Lewis Needs A Second Surgery

New England

Pyro's take: New England RB Dion Lewis will undergo a cleanup procedure on his knee, leaving him out for an indefinite period. Lewis tore his ACL in November and is a good candidate to start the season on the PUP list.

Fantasy Goo: Tough blow for the Patriots as they are missing Tom Brady for the first four games and now Lewis is likely to be out for the first six weeks. LeGarrette Blount was already expected to take on a heavy role in the backfield. Expect James White to take over the receiving back role in New England, making him worth a late-round pick on most drafts. Lewis is only draftable in the final round of deep leagues at this point due to the uncertainty around his health.

Tyler Gaffney Sleeper Running Back In 2016 Here Come The Belitrix

Tyler Gaffney

Pyro's take: Tyler Gaffney has started the preseason out strong as he finished Thursday's preseason game with 64 yards (including a 44-yard touchdown run) on nine second-half carries.

Fantasy Goo: Gaffney has spent the last two years on injured reserve so he has become a forgotten name. But Bill Belichick is a fan of his and scooped him up from the Panthers two seasons ago. If Gaffney stays healthy he could be this year's Dion Lewis. Keep on eye on Gaffney during the preseason as this could be a name that pops up again this year.
So it's 2016 and one thing remains the same Which Patriots running back can you trust to draft in fantasy this season? Currently Dion Lewis is has the highest ADP but can he be trusted coming back from knee injury then there's LeGarrette Blount who is still lingering around Foxborough.Brandon Bolden, Tyler Gaffney, Donald Brown, James White, Joey Ioesefa and Rookie from Arizona State D.J.Foster are all fighting to make the roster, this backfield is as hard to predict as ever but is worth being monitored as the Patriots offense is a perennial fantasy scoring machine.

Lewis has to be ahead of schedule, which is great news. I wouldn’t be shocked if he were ready and able to go for week 1 of this upcoming season (sound the horns, fantasy football players).

Pyro's take: Lewis has to be ahead of schedule, which is great news. I wouldn’t be shocked if he were ready and able to go for week 1 of this upcoming season (sound the horns, fantasy football players). While he is not yet at 100%, he is seven months out of his ACL surgery and could be back at full strength for opening week.

Fantasy Goo: If you are like me then you want to draft Dion Lewis in all of your leagues. We have to be very careful to not let our lusting interfere with our decision making. Word out of Patriot World is that they plan to go easy on Lewis to keep him alive and well for the full 2016 season. These words are usually stakes through fantasy owner’s hearts. Dion Lewis is not a bell-cow runner. Dion kept fantasy teams afloat in 2015 with his 10 to 12 touches per game. That is not many to start with and if they remove 4 touches per game then Lewis will not justify his 4th round and 20th RB drafted in 12 team leagues. We need to keep our ears to the ground for words such as… we are taking the training wheels off. Dion Lewis can help us all but, he has to get the football first.

Dion Lewis and Gronk

Dion Lewis briefly participated in the contested 11-on-11 period. Gronk sat that out but participated in half-speed 11-on-11s.

Pyro's take: Dion Lewis briefly participated in the contested 11-on-11 period. Gronk sat that out but participated in half-speed 11-on-11s. Rob Gronkowski wants to 'knock all the rust out'.

Fantasy Goo: Dion Lewis is expected to be ready for week 1. Dion is the Patriots best BOOM option in New England at the running back position. Rob Gronkowski figures to continue where he left off last season as the best tight end option. With Jimmy Garoppolo handling the first 4 games it will be interesting to see if the plug-n-play Patriots offense continues to never miss a beat while Tom Brady watches from home.

Dion Lewis, who tore the ACL in his left knee last November, appears on track to play in Week 1

According to masslive.com, Dion Lewis, who tore the ACL in his left knee last November, appears on track to play in Week 1.

Pyro's take: According to masslive.com, Dion Lewis, who tore the ACL in his left knee last November, appears on track to play in Week 1. (Rehab) is going well, Lewis said Friday. Just doing whatever I'm allowed to every day. Trying to listen to the trainers and whatever they let me to do, I do it as hard as I can.

Fantasy Goo: Dion Lewis appears to be set to resume the job of making defenders look silly. Dion Lewis helped many fantasy owners get to the playoffs last year but could not help in the playoffs due to his injury which saddened many fantasy owners. Lewis had a great stretch with 622 combined rushing and receiving yards with 4 touchdowns over a hot seven games. Bill Belichick rode Dion on consecutive weeks letting everyone know that Bill liked him and if Bill Belichick likes you then the ball will go to you.

Foster a Weather Vein for Lewis Love

Foster and Lewis

Pyro's take: I have been trading emails with David-Te Thomas, long time NFL scout. He believes Wild Billy B really likes Dion Lewis. Thomas stated that if the team takes Arian Foster, it means there are concerns for Lewis. However, Thomas seems to think Bill Belichick is trying to send the Patriots brass a message: Namely, our guy is Lewis.

Lewis was able to score a TD and/or rack up 100 all-purpose yards in 5 of 7 games played last season before going down with an injury. He has been more injured than not since coming into the league 2011 and there in lies the concern. If healthy, he could be a huge difference maker on your roster.

Dion Lewis On Track To Return For Season Opener

The New England Patriots

Pyro's take: The New England Patriots will continue to take a patient and conservative approach with running back Dion Lewis' recovery from a torn left ACL, but things are going well. Some close to Lewis feel that he's about one month away from being able to play in a game, which naturally means that his availability for the season opener Sept. 11 in Arizona is looking good at this point (assuming no unexpected setbacks).

Dion Lewis was having a breakout season as the Patriots third down back and was a fantasy stud until hurting his knee on November 8 of last year. He should slide back into that role when he is healthy but will be a risk for fantasy owners as he is an injury prone and has never played a full season in the NFL.

Dion Lewis (abdomen) is active for Week 8

Dion Lewis (questionable, abdomen) is expected to play

DL

Pyro's take: Dion Lewis is good to go this Sunday, make sure he is in your lineup if you normally start him.

Dion Lewis' abdominal issue was a factor in Sunday's quiet performance.

DL

Pyro's take: Mike Reiss reported via twitter that "For fantasy footballers: RB Dion Lewis, perhaps affected by abdomen, didn't seem to have same explosiveness last night. Next game: vs. NYJ."
Lewis should feel much better against the tough New York Jets defense.

Pyro's take: Jeff Howe stated via twitter "Dion Lewis is good to go tomorrow. No setbacks in the last 24 hours or any reason to be concerned about the abdomen, per source."
