Seahawks sign Baldwin to four-year extension

The Seahawks rewarded him Tuesday, signing Baldwin to a four-year contract extension that runs through 2020.

Pyro's take: The Seahawks rewarded him Tuesday, signing Baldwin to a four-year contract extension that runs through 2020. According to multiple media reports, the deal is worth $46 million, with $24.25 million guaranteed.

Fantasy Goo: Doug is currently going #47 overall in mock drafts per the FFC, sandwiched between Golden Tate and Jeremy Maclin for wide receivers. The one time undrafted free agent from Stanford has turned into a quality performer to the tune of 10 touchdowns over a 4 game stretch in 2015. 78 receptions for 1,069 and 14 total TDs do not seem to excite the fantasy world as you might expect but, that could be due to the memory of his 2014 season where he played in 16 games and only gathered 3 TDs. With the current mystery surrounding Thomas Rawls early season 2016 status and Russell Wilson’s continued growth I believe Doug Baldwin is a steal at his #47 overall draft spot but, I would not argue taking Greg Olsen (going 50th), Jonathan Stewart (going 53rd)or Andrew Luck (going 49th) at #47.

Doug Baldwin Agrees To A Contract Extension With Seahawks

The Seattle Seahawks

Pyro's take: The Seattle Seahawks and WR Doug Baldwin agreed to terms on a four-year contract extension worth $46 million that includes "just north" of $24 million in guaranteed money according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Baldwin is tied to Seattle until the 2020 season.

Fantasy Goo: Doug Baldwin was awarded a new four-year contract extension on Tuesday. The five-year veteran receiver had his best statistical season of his career in 2015 where he caught 78 targets for 1,069 yards and 14 touchdowns, 11 of which coming from Week 12 and beyond. Consider Baldwin a low-end WR1 with tremendous upside because of how he finished last season. Keep in mind that the Seahawks are rumored to return to a power running team that could take away some of Baldwin's targets.

Doug Baldwin not to worried about contract extension

DB

Pyro's take: Doug Baldwin is coming to an end with his three-year $13 million contract, and he seems not too concerned about that. "No we haven’t had any talks," Baldwin said. "And to be completely honest I’m not too concerned. I’m enjoying my time right now. Anxious to get back with my teammates."

Baldwin had his career year last season catching 78 passes for 1069 yards and tied for the lead league in touchdowns with 14.

He has improved each season with the Seahawks in every category and is clearly their number one receiver over Jermaine Kearse who did sign a three-year extension for $13.5 million.

Doug Baldwin has plenty left in the tank as he is only 27-years old, and should be a considered a low 3 or high 4 wide receiver in all league formats.

Baldwin is a Game Time Decision in Week 16

f

Pyro's take: Seattle is playing in one of the late games. set your lineup accodingly. Move Baldwin to the flex spot so you can have a bit more freedom to replace him if word comes down that he is out. Make sure you have a potential replacement on your bench. You could also take a look at the waiver wire. Is Lockett availalbe? What about Kearse? Lockett is a good play regaardless. Kearse can be boom or bust but if indeed Baldwin is out, both he and Lockett will certainly get more touches

Doug Baldwin with a sore toe

DB

Pyro's take: Pete Carroll talked about Doug Baldwin and his hurt toe
“Doug Baldwin’s got a sore toe, so we’re taking advantage of resting him a couple days," Carroll said. "But he’s going to be fine to make it.”

Doug Baldwin had a blow-out day this week against Arizona as he caught seven passes for 134-yards and one touchdown.

Doug Baldwin caught 7-of-10 targets for 134 yards and a touchdown

DB

Pyro's take: Doug Baldwin was the standout in the Seahawks receiving core this week. He produced half of Russell Wilson's passing yards and his 10 targets were a team high.

Baldwin working outside and enjoying it

“It’s different,” Baldwin said Wednesday, when the 8-1 Seahawks began practicing for Sunday’s game against the 2-6 Falcons in Atlanta. “When you’re on the outside, you’re routes are different obviously. It’s more of a timing thing. You’ve got to be at a certain spot on time.

“Whereas in the slot, I have more freedom to get open, I’m usually the third read, so Russell (Wilson) has time to get back to me. When you’re on the outside, there’s not much leeway. You’ve got to be a specific route runner, which I think I’m pretty capable at.

“So I enjoyed it.”

Baldwin had a team-leading six catches – the third-highest total of his career – for 75 yards in Sunday’s overtime victory against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at CenturyLink Field, including a 10-yard touchdown reception to tie the score with less than two minutes left in regulation.

“The game plan was the same,” Baldwin said. “I just think that obviously I had more opportunities because I filled in for Sid, but then also when we went on third down I still went back to my normal position. So I got a lot more opportunities than I’m used to, but I just tried to make the best of them.”

Pyro's take: Baldwin has stepped up his game with the loss of Sidney Rice. The news that Percy Harvin is coming back, is now news that will not effect Baldwin. He will remain starting in Rice's role when Harvin returns, so if you are looking for potential in a deeper league, Baldwin might be worth a shot. This could be a good week for him against a struggling Falcons team.
