Running With the Bulls

Keller was walking home from brunch when a pit bull started chasing him.  Somehow, Keller managed to outrun the pit bull and jumped on a 12-foot fence - He tweeted:


Walking in Brooklyn and was attacked by a vicious stray pitbull that was foaming at the mouth..I jumped on a tall fence to avoid the mauling


And the only reason I say it was stray is because it broke free from it's owner..and I am not stretching the truth one bit..very vicious dog


But don't worry I'm fine..I just don't like pitbulls as much anymore..has anybody else been the victim of an attack like mine? LOL

Luckily for Keller, besides football, he also developed his high-jumping skills and actually was the State Champ in Indiana.

Not a Reject

The only promising thing about the Jets' passing game from a fantasy perspective is TE Dustin Keller.  Isn't he mentioned in a song, "Do the Dustin Keller, and talk with your hips"? 







Alrighty then.  Guess not.  And if you know of a good time machine, I'd love those three minutes back, please.


He had a very productive rookie campaign catching 48 passes for 535 yards and three scores from washed-up Butt Favre; and Keller only started six games.    


Keller needs to work on his blocking, which might keep him off the field a little, but the fact that the Jets released Keller's competition, Chris Baker, shows that the Jets are committed to Keller and think he can become a better blocker.

2009 Fantasy Outlook

Keller was the 14th best tight-end last year (basic format), and is a fringe starter this season.  Yes, he did benefit greatly from the Butt-man, but a rookie quarterback could have been the next best thing to happen to Keller owners.  Neither Sanchez nor Clemens (whoever starts) will have an even decent year with a new coach, new system, and very green (no pun intended) receivers, so they will be looking to Keller a lot as their go-to guy.  Keller provides a big, strong target over the middle and also possesses some speed to get valuable yards after the catch.  We have him ranked as the 17th TE this season.  We don't see much upside to that, unless Mark Sanchez pulls a Matt Ryan this year.

New York Daily News writer Rich Cimini is yapping away about how Keller could catch 80 balls this season.

Pyro's Take:

Across the nose, maybe. But seeing as though Keller caught 35 balls last season... after week 9, 80 certainly seems possible. Dirty Sanchez will be looking to his large-ish sticky-handed target early in the season.

We like Keller to produce as a fringe fantasy TE starter this season - and there is upside with that assessment, too. Ya never know with a rookie QB.

Jets' TE Keller opens the preseason in strong fashion expand +

He caught 3 balls for 52 yards against the Rams first-teamers.

Pyro's Take:

Keller remains a nice value pick in drafts this summer. Keep an eye on the rest of the preseason and whether or not the trend of him being the first look for both Kellen Clemens and rookie Dirty Sanchez.
