There is upside galore when you look at Dwaynebow's situation heading into '09. GM Pioli handed the team to Todd Haley of recent AZ Cardinal fame, and Pioli's old pal, Bill Belichick, handed Matt Cassel over for a 2nd round pick. We aren't overly excited of Matt Cassel's prospects in a new system (especially without Randy Moss and Wes Welker), but we are about Haley. Where he goes, WR production goes up.
Marty Booker, Keyshawn Johnson, and Terry Glenn all had great seasons playing under Haley, and Fitz, Boldin and Breaston went off in '08. With serviceable signal callers (Thigpen and Cassel) in KC, Dwaynebow's potential is quite high. Between that and Haley's prolific pass-heavy offense, there appears to be a pot of gold at the end of the Dwaynebow. Again, sorry, couldn't resist.
There are two areas of concern that we must point out:
First, Tony Gonzalez was traded away in the off-season, and he's one of those guys that teams dedicate much of their defensive game-planning toward. Mark Bradley is starting opposite him and has a bunch of unrealized potential, but won't command a ton of attention. Dwaynebow may be seeing more double-teams than ever.
Second, new systems and new QBs tend to negatively affect WRs. Things could be slow to come at first, but Haley's affect on WRs is tough to disregard. We have Dwaynebow ranked as the 50th WR on our cheat sheets.
