2012 Pros and Cons

(+) Eric Decker scored 8 touchdowns with an anemic Tim Tebow at the helm last season

(+) Eric Decker will now have a future Hall of Famer throwing him the ball this year

(+) Eric Decker has good size at 6’3” 218 and has a great set of hands for Peyton to rely on

(+) Decker had a better fantasy average with Kyle Orton at the helm, so a true passer Like Manning should increase his value

(+) Decker had 2 games with 2 TD’s last year

(+) Scored his 8 TD’s between weeks 2 and 12 showing great production during that span

(-)Decker lacks the elite speed and upside of expected top receiver Demaryius Thomas

(-)The Denver Offense is completely reliant upon the health of Peyton Manning and his surgically repaired neck

(-)Faded down the stretch when Thomas got healthy and immersed himself in the offense

(-) Had only 14 catches over his final 9 games

Decker now top dog in New York

Decker has signed on to be bolster the wide receiver corps in New York. Decker, who turns 27 Saturday, is coming off back-to-back, 1,000-yard seasons. He recorded career highs last season with 87 receptions and 1,288 yards, contributing to the most prolific passing offense in league history.

The deal is for five years and worth $36.25 million with $15 million guaranteed, a source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Pyro's take: Decker will be the unquestioned number one option in the Jets passing game next season. Although he moves up in the food chain he probably will not eat near as much as he did in Denver in one of the best offenses of all time. It is hard to see any way in which this deal increases Deckers value as he now looks like a wide receiver 3 than the top ten guy we have seen over the last two seasons.

Decker obviously went for the most money in his new deal as he clearly didn't care about finding an offense that would maximize his talents.

Decker unsure if he will return to Broncos

To fans of the popular Eric Decker or 15 other Broncos free agents, nervous times are ahead.

John Elway, the Broncos' executive vice president of football operations, said the team's prospective free agents most likely would be allowed to test the NFL market when the 2014 league season opens March 11.

Pre-emptive deals with star players such as wide receiver Decker, cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and running back Knowshon Moreno are unlikely. This way, the player and the club will have a better understanding of the player's market value.

"Then we'll see if we're in the ballpark," Elway said.

"I do hope it works out," Decker said Monday morning before departing with his team for home. "I love the city of Denver. I love the organization. I love everything about it. I understand it's a business, and we'll see what happens. I have enjoyed my time here."

Pyro's take: Decker has been everything and more to the Broncos and Peyton Manning over the past two seasons with 172 catches for 2,352 yards and 24 touchdowns. There is not doubt that Decker is going to get a lot of attention on the free agent market, and with good reason.

The Golden Gopher product has proven that he is a major redzone target, and his size and hands are going to have teams knocking down his door. It will be interesting to see how he will respond to not having Peyton Manning or the myriad of weapons around him to draw defenders away. Where he lands will be the major factor in determining his value for 2014.
