Hue Wants To Run More

Pyro's take: Hue Jackson admitted that the Browns got away from the run at times last year and will make a more concerted effort to keep the offense balanced in 2017.

Fantasy Goo: Isaiah Crowell has been getting a lot of hype this offseason with the Browns bolstered offensive line, but don't sleep on Duke Johnson. He is currently around ADP 14th round, he could be the steal of the draft this season.

Smith Could Step up at Home

Pyro's take: Arrow Head is a tough place to play. In the range of possible outcomes, Smith could certainly have a similar performance to when these teams squared off earlier. Smith put up 287 yards, 2tds, and 1int.

Fantasy Goo: As I talked about on the Pyro Light podcast, the key to being successful with short slates is taking advantage of likely gamescripts. If indeed KC wins, Smith should have a decent day, especially considering he is the second cheapest QB on Draft Kings. As long as he puts up 250 and 2, again, if they are going to win, that is indeed within reason, then you can capitalize on the QB slot and spend up at other positions. Plus, it will be a great way to differentiate your line-up and grab a low owned guy to leverage the field.

Here You Go Eat Some Crow

Browns running back

Pyro's take: Browns running back Isaiah Crowell explodes on the scene with two straight solid performances to open the 2016 season.

Fantsy Goo: After his week one line of 12 for 62 and a touchdown, Crow ran the ball 18 times for 133 yards including a beautiful run of 85 yards for a touchdown in week two. With the Browns dealing with injury woes at the quarterback position look for them to lean on the running game a little more which could mean even more fantasy value for his owners.

Isaiah Crowell Should Be Top Dawg Out Of Browns Backfield

Isaiah Crowell

Pyro's take: Isaiah Crowell will get a bulk of the Browns' carries in 2016, according to Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer. She feels a 1,000-yard season is "well within reach" for Crowell.

Fantasy Goo: Crowell was rumored to be at risk of being cut earlier this month due to the controversy he was involved in, but that's since passed and he's back to being considered as the team's No. 1 RB option. He's certainly not a sexy name, but he should see a majority of the team's carries. He's not involved in the passing game much at all, as the team has an elite option in RB Duke Johnson. Still, Crowell could provide upside for a Browns' offense that should be much more interesting in 2016. He's currently considered the RB39 in standard leagues and a bit lower for PPR purposes.

They give police all types of weapons and they continually choose to kill us - Crowell

“I was very wrong in posting that image.

Pyro's take: “I was very wrong in posting that image. Every single life matters, every death as a result of violence should be treated with equal outrage and penalty.” Crowell also posted his apology on his personal Twitter account.

Fantasy Goo: If you prefer to not draft people that are racists then you will not want to draft Isaiah Crowell. Isaiah posted a picture of someone slitting a white cop’s throat. If a white person were to show a black cop getting his throat slit from ear to ear after all that has been going on with Black Lives Matter and all of the senseless killings by policemen that white player would receive PUNISHMENT however, since Crowell is not white he will just be told to simply say he was sorry. I love black people and of course many black people love white people but, Isaiah Crowell is not making the sad and difficult division of black & white relations any better with such a heartless image which he posted in this link below.

Isaiah Crowell Should Rush For Over A Thousand Yards In 2016

Mary Kay Cabot

Pyro's take: Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer believes that Browns running back Isaiah Crowell could rush for over 1,000 yards under head coach Hue Jackson in 2016.

Fantasy Goo: It certainly is possible, as Crowell figures to play the Jeremy Hill role for Jackson, while sophomore Duke Johnson fills the role held by Gio Bernard. Both should see a decent uptick in fantasy value this season and are on the RB2 radar. Keep an eye during training camp and preseason to see who earns the most touches in this backfield.

Mike Pettine expects the running back carries to vary week to week.

IC

Pyro's take: The Cleveland Browns backfield just became even more murky. It appears as though it will be a three-headed monster. Duke Johnson is the receiving specialist, Crowell is the 20-20 guy, and Robert Turbin is the short-yardage and end zone guy.

Great for the NFL, but horrible news for Crow owners. He virtually has nothing to offer but approximately 60-80 yards a game.

“If you went running back continuum,” Pettine said, “I think we have a guy at each end, and I think Crow slides somewhere in between.”

“People look at that (competition) as a problem, but we see it as a good problem to have,” Browns coach Mike Pettine said. “I don’t think we’re going to go into a game and say, ‘Hey, we want to get X number of touches to each of these guys.’ Some of that will be a function of what the defense is giving us, how they want to play us, and then at the same time, Flip (offensive coordinator John DeFilippo) will have it coordinated where certain plays will be for certain backs, and he’ll have those personnel groupings tagged accordingly.”

Crowell Set to Play Today

to play

Pyro's take: Crowell struggled through practices this week. But he is going to play. Keep an eye on Robert Turbin in the next few weeks, as he could eat into some carries, if not more.

Isaiah Crowell "missed some runs" in last week’s loss to the Raiders.

IC

Pyro's take: According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer Crowell starting job is "wide open for someone to claim." Crowell is averaging 3.1 YPC and has two touchdowns in eight games since last season.

Duke Johnson outsnapped Crowell last week and is the third down back Robert Turbin (ankle) could overtake Crowell when he returns.

Crowell hired for Full-time?

IC

Pyro's take: Cleveland Browns writer Scott Petrak tweeted out that "DeFilippo said sees no reason RB Isaiah Crowell can't be a workhorse: Big guy, in great shape."

DeFillippo has a strong belief in Crowell, but does he have any choice? Duke Johnson is coming off injury and Terrance West is gone. If Crowell's pass catching has improved he may have a chance at being a full-time back, and there is a reason they felt safe releasing West.

More Playing Time

Nate Ulrich, Cleveland Browns beat writer has stated via twitter that "HC Mike Pettine: We would like to see Crowell get more touches. Gave Tate more late in game b/c of ball security concerns w/ Crowell"

Pyro's take: Crowell, Tate, West, who knows who is getting touches and who isnt anymore in Cleveland. The rotating running back head of Mike Pettine has been interesting thus far, and as long as they keep winning nobody will put pressure on him to stop, for our fantasy benefits.

Three-Headed

Even though the Browns didn't look like they have a rushing attack against the Jaguars, they are actually third in the NFL, rushing for 156 yards per game. With West, Crowell, and Tate running hard it has become a situation for Mike Pettine. “We’ll have a discussion this week as to how to best rotate those guys,” Browns coach Mike Pettine said Monday of an upcoming meeting with offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and running backs coach Wilbert Montgomery. “You could make the argument it’s a good problem to have, but you’re still dealing with the word ‘problem.’ ”

Pyro's take: What we do know is that Ben Tate is the number one, and is playing to be the number one. What has been confusing is the way that Pettine has used Crowell and West. If you have one or the other, keep retention, and see how it unfolds.

Backing Up

Isiah Crowell looks to be the first one off the bench now that Ben Tate is back. The big bruising running back, understand his role behind Tate: "I don't question it,'' he said. "I just wanted to show the team what I could do. Him being back really helps me out a lot because I can learn a lot from him. I envision all of us being out there, getting time, getting reps, running the ball and being the best backfield in the league."

Crowell went on to say: "We're just happy to have him back, to have any teammate back from an injury, that's a blessing. We can be first in the league. We're all three good backs. We can be the top running backs in the league."

Pyro's take: Isiah Crowell might get a shot sooner than expected, as Tate is a fragile son-a-bitch. Crowell is a strong, bull type runner, who will plow over defenders. He has severely outplayed West in Cleveland's first three games. During the bye-week Crowell was the first tailback through the rotation, and West was second team. Which means that now Tate is back Crowell will most likely be the number two.

On the season Isiah Crowell has 27 rushing attempts for 141 yards and three touchdowns, he also has caught a pass for three yards.
