2010 Stats 171 555 4 58 80 487 2 140.2 8.8
(+) Jahvid Best was having a stellar season through the first six games of the year before going down, so there’s no doubt he can do it
(+) Best had greatly improved his yards per carry average from 3.2 yards per carry his rookie year to 4.6 in his second year
(+) He also increased his yards per reception from 8.4 to 10.6 in his second season
(+) At this point, it looks like Best will get the “Lions share” of the work in the running game while also seeing some targets in the passing game
(+) To quote Coach Jim Schwartz from two years ago: "Some people watch adult videos on their computer. I go to YouTube and watch Jahvid Best highlight clips. That’s what gets me aroused."
(+/–) Not only did Detroit attempt the most passes in the league in 2011, but they have been one of the Top-3 most pass-happy teams over the entire past decade
(–) Best’s touchdown numbers could take a plunge with Leshoure being a much bigger back and able to power through the tackles
(–) He has huge concussion issues that troubled him throughout the season causing him to miss the last ten games of ’11 as well as some time back in college
(–) A possible three-RB platoon (Best, Leshoure, Kevin Smith) combined with the Lions high-flying passing attack could limit the amount of carries Best sees this season
(–) Yet again, partly due to being in the NFC North, the Lions have the toughest schedule against the rush in the entire NFL

Even though Best is in Detroit, he's in a pretty good spot for fantasy owners. Jahvis will compete for playing time right away, as the Lions are looking to use him and his speed out of a variety of slots, not unlike Reggie Bush. Best is slightly smaller and leaner than Bush, but he will be the starting running back as incumbent Kevin Smith is still recovering from an ACL tear suffered last year. The Lions have also said they would like to use Best as a kickoff return man this year, which could add more value to him.
~ Matthew Stafford has had a year under his belt and is clicking with Megatron, so that should open up more space for Best
~ Best does have an injury history so the Lions will probably limit him in some capacity
~ He’s a huge threat in the open field and with a young roster, he will get chances to use his supernatural ability

What makes Jahvid Best so scary isn’t the fact that his last name is Best, or the fact that he actually survived this and was still drafted in the first round...
No, what makes him so scary is the fact that he was faster than the best American sprinters. As a high school senior, he ran the 100-meter dash in 10.36 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 20.65, which were the 5th and 2nd fastest times in the nation respectively. To put those numbers into perspective, that was equal to or faster than the times of Justin Gatlin and Tyson Gay (both are World and Olympic Champions in those events) when they were high school seniors. This 5’10”, 200 lb cheetah is one fast cat.
This gem is courtesy of Lions head coach Jim Schwartz after trading with the Vikings for Best: "Some people watch adult videos on their computer... I go to YouTube and watch Jahvid Best highlight clips. That’s what gets me going."
Maybe it will do the same for you.
Best signed a five-year contract just before camp broke worth $9.8 million that contained $7.1 million guaranteed. There is also another $2.9 million available through incentives. The specifics of the deal are not yet known:
2010 - Under Contract
2011 - Under Contract
2012 - Under Contract
2013 - Under Contract
2014 - Under Contract
2015 - Free Agent
Best will need a handcuff due to his lack of size, and you probably won't find many better ones out there than Kevin Smith
Best definitely has an injury-marred past, so even though he's heading into the 2010 season healthy, we're marking him yellow due to both his past and his lack of size
