Vegas Points to a Negative Game Script for the 49'ers

d

Pyro's take: According to Vegas, this is not going to be one for the ages. This spread is by far, the largest of the week. The Panthers are favored by 13.5 points. Not only that, Carolina has an implied team total of 29.25, the largest of the week. As if it couldn’t get any worse, the 49’ers have the lowest implied total, coming in at just 15.75

The negative game script essentially means the 49’ers are going to be down and needing to pass to stay in this game. If that indeed comes to fruition, then Hyde is going to be faded. He has never caught more than 12 passes in a season. I recommend selling high on Hyde. Two players whom this game-script could benefit, are Draughn and Kerley. Draughn is the pass-catching back, so obviously, he takes a much larger step forward in PPR formats. Kerley, who was the favored target in Week #1, looks to continue to ascend in Chip Kelly’s offense.

Bruce Ellington Done For 2016 In Comes Jeremy Kerley

49ers place

Pyro's take: 49ers place WR Bruce Ellington on injured reserve after he tore hamstring Friday.

Fantasy Goo: What was thought to be a strained hamstring originally, is obviously much worse than that now. San Francisco made a curious deal over the weekend to acquire Jeremy Kerley from the Lions. We now know that the reasoning behind it is for Kerley to take over what Ellington provided San Francisco on offense and special teams. He will now try and get healthy enough to contribute in the 2017 campaign while the 49ers offense will be without a solid receiving threat in the slot.

Jeremy Kerley likely to be a cap casualty

JK

Pyro's take: Jeremy Kerley ($3.1 million), whose small role doesn't match his salary. He's only an average punt returner and he wouldn't be among the top four wide receivers in 2016, maybe not among the top five. They'd save $1.3 million by cutting him. Frankly, I think he'd welcome a change of scenery. This has been a frustrating year for Kerley, who still has the skills to play in the right situation.--Rich Cimini

Jeremy Kerley's Week 15 status is "up in the air" due to a bruised calf.

JK

Pyro's take: Manish Meta via Twitter "Devin Smith isn't only banged-up Jets WR. Jeremy Kerley has a bruised calf. Status this week is up in the air, per Bowles."

Kerley Signed

Jeremy Kerley has signed with the New York Jets for a four-year $16 million extension., $5.4 million guaranteed. He has he has 22 receptions for 201 yards and one touchdown on the season.

Pyro's take: The Jets are trying to set the pieces before they get the quarterback they need to get these guys the ball, until then expect inconsistent results from all of them. This is a good signing for the Jets.

Jeremy Kerley has a concussion, week 2 availability in doubt

The Jets are preparing to not have wide receiver Jeremy Kerley for Thursday night’s short-week game at New England.

Kerley took a helmet-to-helmet hit from strong safety Mark Barron, for which Barron was penalized, in Sunday’s season-opening win over Tampa Bay. Kerley returned to the game because he was medically cleared, according to the Jets, who said he also passed a concussion test after the game.

“Then when he came in on Monday after the trainers looked at him, we got another evaluation of him and determined that it was a concussion that he has,” said Jets coach Rex Ryan.

Kerley did not practice Tuesday and his status for the New England game is in doubt.

“You have to be prepared for that scenario (that he won’t play),” Ryan said. “We’re not going to officially announce anybody being out until tomorrow.”

Pyro's take: Kerley is not a recommended starter in week 2 even if healthy. The Jets are a complete mess, even though they escaped week 1 with a win, thanks to a dumb penalty. The offense for the Jets is going to be so erratic that it will be hard to count on any Jets player for consistent fantasy points.
