Former college teammates Mark Sanchez and Joe McKnight are reunited in New York's backfield.

McKnight joins a backfield that includes second-year phenom Shonn Greene and future Hall-of-Famer Ladanian Tomlinson. Joe will be the third back on the depth chart, but Greene and Tomlinson aren’t exactly the most durable running backs. Greene had two different rib injuries as well as an ankle issue last year and Tomlinson is clearly in his decline. McKnight will largely be used as a third-down back for now and he will see some time as a slot receiver- albeit he still needs to learn the position as he only caught 66 passes in college. Once he does though, he could become a huge threat for his former collegiate teammate, quarterback Mark Sanchez.
~Offensive Coordinator Brian Schottenheimer has said that the Jets have packages that require LT and McKnight to be on the field together
~The Jets are a very run heavy team with a great line
~McKnight, who vomited all over the place and dropped a ton of passes in rookie minicamp, needs to get into shape quickly
Ever since he declared as a high school senior out of Louisiana that he would be attending USC, McKnight has been compared to Reggie Bush. Before he even stepped on campus, he was being dubbed the next Reggie Bush and struggled mightily under that pressure for his first two seasons. However, in 2009- his junior season- he finally broke free from that moniker and became his own man. Or so he thought. Ironically, it was that season in which he most resembled Reggie both on and off the field.
On the field, McKnight is an explosive, shifty back. At 6-feet, 195-pounds, he’s tall but lean. Like Bush, he thrives in the open field and was used as a punt and kick returner his first two years until injuries and more importantly, fumble-it is, crept in. Still, McKnight showed his amazing athletic ability game in and game out, although he was suspended for his final collegiate game in the Emerald Bowl for driving an SUV that didn’t belong to him- yet another similarity to Bush.
