Injury Report

Green

Morgan's last significant injury was when he had a groin issue for a few weeks in 2008, so no worries here

Josh Morgan has bruised hip but should be fine

49ers wide receiver Josh Morgan is dealing with a bruised hip after Sunday's game against the Jaguars, but he should be ready to play this coming weekend in Seattle.

Pyro's take: Morgan's fantasy football value has increased slightly since QB Alex Smith was put into the lineup, but he still can't be used as more than a flex on your team.

Josh Morgan officially named starter

49ers wide receiver Josh Morgan has officially been named the starting wide receiver alongside Michael Crabtree. Even though he has been starting for a couple of weeks now, no "official" word had yet been given. Isaac Bruce's run as a starter in the NFL is now over.

Pyro's take: Morgan and Crabtree make up an extremely talented, young receiving duo and could be paired together for a long time to come. Morgan, however, still isn't a fantasy football consideration, and Isaac Bruce might as well be playing soccer as far as fantasy is concerned.

Morgan replaces Bruce as starter Sunday

49ers wide receiver Josh Morgan replaced fellow WR Issac Bruce in the starting lineup beside Michael Crabtree against the Titans on Sunday. Whether or not this is a permanent move remains to be seen.

Pyro's take: Bruce is getting up there in age, as this is likely the final year of his illustrious career. Morgan is the much more explosive player at this point, and if there is any fantasy football value to be had, it would definitely be with Morgan over the aging vet.

Morgan to split time with Bruce and Crabtree

"When you look at Isaac Bruce, Josh (Morgan) and (Michael) Crabtree, they're all going to play about the same. It just depends on how the game goes and the flow of the game," 49ers coach Mike Singletary said.

Pyro's take: It's tough to advise starting a rookie playing in his first game, especially when that player missed all of the preseason and training camp, but something tells us Crabby is going to score this weekend. Give him a week to find out how he fits in, but remember this call when he takes home a football after Sunday's game.

Selfless Morgan stays to help Crabtree over bye

49ers wide receiver Josh Morgan told The Press Democrat today he was informed that Michael Crabtree and Isaac Bruce will be the starting receivers on Sunday. Coach Mike Singletary confirmed by saying there is a "strong possibility" of that happening.

Pyro's take: Morgan stayed at the team's practice facility over the bye week to help Crabtree learn the position. "I'm helping him learn my position and take my position," said Morgan.
Selfless, yes, and admirable, but not doing anything for his fantasy football value.

Morgan having tough time getting into flow

49ers wide receiver Josh Morgan has had a tough time getting into the flow of the team's new offense this year as he has just five targets so far, all of which came in the Week 1 win over the Cardinals.

Pyro's take: Coach Mike Singletary and OC Jimmy Raye are preaching a ball-control offense this year, which doesn't leave much in the way of the receivers. To put it in perspective, tight end Vernon Davis, who had just 49 targets last year, already has 13 this year with seven coming in the first game and six in the second.

Niners' WR Josh Morgan lining up at split end

Morgan will start the year as the WR1 on the Niners while Michael Crabtree continues to hold out.

Pyro's take: Bump Morgan up your depth charts. The WR1 on the Niners should have some decent value. Shaun Hill was very productive in only 8 starts in '08. Crabtree is getting such terrible advice from his clueless agents.

Niners' WR Morgan getting chance to show his versatility

Josh Morgan is being used at all three WR positions in camp and Raye II is loving what he's seeing.

“For a big-bodied guy, for a big receiver, he has excellent explosion for a guy his size,” Raye said of Morgan, who had 20 receptions for 319 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie. “He doesn’t look like he would have that kind of explosion, but he’s an explosive guy, a great leaper. His range, because of his arms, his circumference range is very good. He can get to some balls with extension that some guys can’t.”

Pyro's take: Morgan is on our sleeper list and if he can stay healthy will return a ton of value on draft day. He would make a medium risk/high reward fantasy WR3-WR4 this season.
