Maroney signed a rookie five-year, $8.735 million contract with $6.13 million guaranteed and $70,000 more in easy-money along the way. Here's how the final year of that deal shakes out:
2010 - $825,000
2011 - Free Agent
If you have one, you might as well have them all; as in Sammy Morris, Fred Taylor, and Kevin Faulk

Maroney has dealt with a ton of different injuries throughout his career, but he managed to stay healthy in 2009, so we're giving him the green light
The Patriots have declared running back Laurence Maroney inactive for the game against the Texans today.
Pyro's Take:
Strange that everyone else is active, but we haven't heard anything about an injury, so this may be a punishment of some sort. Get him out of your fantasy lineup immediately.
With running back Sammy Morris still on the sidelines with a knee injury, Laurence Maroney will get the start in the backfield for the Patriots.
Pyro's Take:
Maroney is worth throwing in your fantasy football lineup as a low-end RB2 or flex play against the Dolphins today. Make sure Sammy is on your bench.
Patriots running back Laurence Maroney was not at practice with the team on Thursday.
Pyro's Take:
It's a bye week, so no worries here. We haven't heard of any significant injuries with Maroney, so just keep him on your fantasy football bench while the team is off this week.
Patriots running back Sammy Morris (knee) is inactive for the game against the Buccaneers in London. Laurence Maroney will take his place and make the start in the backfield.
Pyro's Take:
Maroney could be a good spot-start on your fantasy football team today as the Pats face an awful Tampa Bay rush D. With six teams on bye this week, don't hesitate to go deep on your bench with this one.
It's not clear whether Patriots running back Sammy Morris (knee) will be out for this Sunday's game against Tampa Bay in London, but assuming he is, coach Bill Belichick isn't afraid to go with just three active RBs. “Well, we’ve done that before,” Belichick said when asked.
Pyro's Take:
Laurence Maroney would take over as the starter if Morris is out, with BenJarvus Green-Ellis backing him up and Kevin Faulk as the third-down back. For you fantasy football players, it looks like the Pats will go with a pass-heavy offense once again...
There was no update on Patriots running back Sammy Morris' status Monday morning after Morris left Sunday's game against the Titans with a leg injury. “There’s always a little more information a day or two days after the game, after we get a chance to see where things are at 24-48 hours after," coach Bill Belichick said.
Pyro's Take:
The King of Bullshit is back. We'll see how the situation with Morris shakes out over the week and how it will affect Laurence Maroney for the next game. Neither one is more than a flex play on your fantasy football team regardless.
After Patriots running back Sammy Morris went down with an injury in the first quarter on Sunday, Laurence Maroney finally got his shot, and coach Bill Belichick liked what he saw. “He got a little crease and we all know once he gets out there he can run, and he did," he said.
Pyro's Take:
We'll see what happens with Morris and the Patriots backfield later this week, but it can't be forgotten that this is a pass-first team. Period. Maroney, however, could have flex value on your fantasy football team if he gets the call.
Patriots running back Fred Taylor is expected to have surgery on his injured right ankle, though the surgery is not supposed to be season-ending.
Pyro's Take:
Taylor suffered the injury on the final play of the game last Sunday. Sammy Morris and Laurence Maroney will be depended on to pick up the slack with Taylor out, with the better fantasy football value edging towards Morris.
New England running back Fred Taylor got the start Monday night, but only ended up with nine carries for 25 yards and a 1-yard touchdown run. Laurence Maroney had 10 carries for 32 yards and two catches for nine yards.
Pyro's Take:
Taylor only saw the field for 16 of 81 snaps while Laurence Maroney was in for 23 and Kevin Faulk for 42. However, the team was playing catch-up most of the night, and both Faulk and Maroney are better options in the passing game. As expected, the Patriots backfield is a pure RBBC and a fantasy nightmare.
New England Patriots RBs Fred Taylor, Laurence Maroney, and Sammy Morris didn't get much time on the field last night as the Patriots were testing their four-receiver set for most of the game. Taylor started the game and rushed seven times for 26 yards while adding a 12-yard reception. Maroney, who had started last game, rushed just three times for six yards and also added a reception. Morris sat out the game after missing practice all week with an injury.
Pyro's Take:
Even though Laurence Maroney has the most upside for the Patriots in the future, Fred Taylor will probably be getting the most touches out of the backfield this year. However, when you add Kevin Faulk and BenJarvis Green-Ellis to the mix, it doesn't bode well for any of these guys fantasy numbers in 2009. There might be too much handcuffing going on here to make any one Patriot RB a target, but Fred Taylor has the most potential.
