Hardest Strength of Schedule for QBs

Pyro's take: Based on Stagg Party's Strength of Schedule (aka SoS) for the v2 of the Pyro Draft Kit Andrew Luck and the Colts have the hardest SoS for QBs this season. Which doesn't bode well with his already PUP status. The Chiefs and Alex Smith have the second hardest schedule for passing QBs and Marcus Mariota has the 3rd worst schedule this season.

Fantasy Goo: I really look hard at SoS for any player, matchups are a huge part of the game.

Worst Strength of Schedule for Quarterbacks

Pyro's take: Based on Stagg Party's SoS from tab 5 (of 25) of our Pyro Fantasy Football Draft Kit, Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts have the hardest schedule for any QB in 2017. Alex Smith and the Chiefs have the 2nd hardest, and Marcus Mariota of the Titans have the 3rd hardest schedule against passing defenses this season.

Fantasy Goo: With Andrew Luck starting training camp on the PUP, and the intel that he has a really difficult schedule this year – I'm getting a little cold on the Stanford QB. He's been on my team every year since being in the league, but injury plus tough schedule may not bode well for Andrew. Pick up our Draft Kit today: http://bit.ly/2017DraftKit-v2

Headed to I.R.

Should be a good day for Mariota

Pyro's take: The Titans have an implied team total 5 points above their yearly average.

Fantasy Goo: When the numbers are set with such an obvious discrepancy, fantasy players should take note. In recent weeks, the Colts have really given it up to opposing QBs: So far this year – Stafford put up 340 yards and 3 tDS; Rivers put up 330 yards; Blake Bortles nearly 26 FF Pts; Brian Hoyer through for 397 yards; Last week, even brock Osweiller – 269 yards and 2 TDs

Titans Backs Dominate PFF Preseason Grades

Pyro's take: According to the grades determined by Pro Football Focus, Henry and Murray, the two Titans RBs, shined in the preseason. On a points per snap basis, an excellent statistic in determining talent and current ability, they beat all other offensive skill positions sans the QB. Henry led by putting up .56 FF Points every snap. His teammate, DeMarco Murray, was right behind him logging .54 FF Points per snap in standard scoring. As a point of reference, the 18th best player in this statistical category averaged .31.

Fantasy Goo: The efficiency displayed by the two Tennessee backs is quite impressive. I thought Henry looked outstanding. d-Rx is a big fan of Murray ranking him inside his top 10 at the position for the year. Plus, Malarkey and company, are attempting to employ a run-heavy scheme. My only hesitation stems from potential game-scripts. According to Vegas, the Titans are just 1 of 3 clubs that are predicted to win less than 6 games this season. So, in all likely-hood, they will need to pass early and often. However, there are more reasons to be excited about the team and the ground game then there are causes for concern. After all, if Mariota does indeed take a step forward, this could be a surprisingly talented fantasy squad.

More of a Motor for Mariota in 2016?

Pyro's take: The Titans plan to run what they are calling "Exotic Smashmouth". After doing some extensive research, it is definitely not an Eastern European cover-band. But I digress. The Titans are planning on running. That is evident with the Murray trade and the Henry draft pick. But coach Malarkey has also alluded to his QB taking on more rushing attempts this season, something Mariotta was known for in college, an aspect of his game that was surprisingly missing last season. In response, Mariotta said: 'If he wants me to run some more, I can". The real question, will this team, that Vegas has picked to win less than 6 games, be able to run it as much as they hope for.

Fantasy goo: While the Titans have the proverbial "too many cooks in the kitchen". While this can detract from any one pass catchers fantasy value, in can boost the overall fantasy production of the QB. Now, if you add more running into the mix, you could really have something there. Mariotta is a nice late round target. If he does in fact utilize his legs, he could easily end up top ten. Especially if they are down and need to pass. Think of how much Bortles benefitted from negative game script last year.

I'll hand the ball off 40 times a game if we win games

In the offseason, the Titans brought in RB DeMarco Murray and C Ben Jones.

Pyro's take: In the offseason, the Titans brought in RB DeMarco Murray and C Ben Jones. In the draft, they added Michigan State OT Jack Conklin and Alabama RB Derrick Henry. Those additions alone should improve a running game that was 25th out of 32 NFL teams last season. Marcus Mariota, "I told Coach Mike (Mularkey) that I'll hand the ball off 40 times a game if we win games. That's what's important to me, to giving us an opportunity to win. Having those two workhorses back there should help us out."

Fantasy Goo: Fantasy owners do not want to hear about a QB handing off 40 times per game however unlikely that could be. DeMarco and Derrick do have the keys to the car if they can drive which is great for whoever drafts either of the running backs. In the NFL football it is nice to assist your young QB with a sweet running game. A couple negatives for fantasy owners from this is that the clock expires rapidly while the running game chews the clock with each run and there being one less pass play. Three runs that end up in a three-in-out are what nightmares are made of for fantasy owners.

Titans coach Mike Mularkey says he wants his system to be "exotic smashmouth."

Pyro's take: Mularkey: Says his old offensive system in Pitt, which he hopes to replicate, was known as "exotic smashmouth."

Exotic Smashmouth... Might as well call the offense Oxymoron. Mariota may run more often for you PPR owners.

Terry Robiskie said Marcus Mariota will not have trouble adjusting to his offense.

Pyro's take: “Marcus is a special talent, a special guy, a special player,’’ Robiskie said. “He looks like just a natural-born football player. He looks like a guy who enjoys playing the game and looks like he is having fun doing it.”

“I have always been a big believer in just aggressive, physical, nasty football. Bloody your nose and let’s go play. Marcus kind of opens the playbook up a little bit more, gives you more options. He creates more problems for the defense, so we have to take that into consideration.”

He’s already talked with Mariota, and said the two had a “good conversation.”

“He’s eager to go,’’ Robiskie said. “He’s fired up, and he’s ready.”

GM Jon Robinson says he's willing to trade the No. 1 overall pick.

Pyro's take: Paul Kuharsky via Twitter "Robinson: "We will look at any and all offers that come this way" for No. 1 pick. #Titans"

If Jon Robinson didn't look at offers for his number one pick, he should be fired. With that he already has his star quarterback in Marcus Mariota, and could be in the hunt to add picks.

Mike Mularkey said he plans to implement a simpler and faster offense this season.

Pyro's take: Pittsburgh twice posted top-10 offenses in his three seasons with the Steelers. Atlanta was top-10 twice in his four seasons with the Falcons.

Mularkey said a signature of his offense with those teams was "a lot of deception, trying to make defenses think — and if they are, they’re not responding quickly. It’s just a balanced offense, but it can go either way based on the situation in the game.”

“There will be some similarities, but it will be cut down," Mularkey said. “It’s not a complete overhaul because it comes from the same tree, basically. But it will be adjusted and a lot of it will be to help Marcus.”

Mike Mularkey is the "clear frontrunner" to replace Ken Whisenhunt.

Pyro's take: Ian Rapoport via Twitter "#Titans plan to interview interim coach Mike Mularkey late this week -- likely Thursday -- source said. He's the clear front-runner."

Marcus Mariota (MCL) took dropbacks at less than full speed Monday

Pyro's take: The Titans had Marcus Mariota take some dropbacks at less than full speed on Monday and will evaluate him from there. Mariota missed the Houston game with a sprained right knee, and it seems unlikely that he'll resurface for the finale, considering interim coach Mike Mularkey said with "any bit of doubt, he will not play." -- Paul Kuharsky

Mike Mularkey said Monday that Marcus Mariota (MCL) will not play in Week 17 against the Colts

Pyro's take: Jim Wyatt via Twitter "Mularkey said he'll rely on trainers to make a determination on Mariota. Any bit of doubt on Mariota and he won't play Sunday @Titans"

Marcus Mariota completed 22-of-35 passes for 231 yards adding five rushes for 29 yards and a touchdown.

Pyro's take: Marcus Mariota struggled for the most part against the Jaguars. His receivers couldnt find seperation and his ball placement was not consistent. He did add a running touchdown that helped offset his passing night, as that went for 23-yards.

Mariota has the skills and should continue to get better as the season moves on. He will face the secondary of the Oakland Raiders next week.

Mariota (knee) practiced for the second straight day

Pyro's take: JIm Wyatt announced via Twitter "QB Marcus Mariota participated in the open portion of practice again today"

It appears as he may be good to go, but the Titans brass may still want to hold him out. Check up dates on Friday and Sunday to see what the verdict is.

Mariota will test himself to see if he can practice

Pyro's take: Marcus Mariota will take to the practice field to test if he can join the Titans in practice. Terry McCormick via twitter stated "Mariota will go out on the field to determine if he can practice this week."

If Mariota can't start against the Texans, Zach Mettenberger would get another first-team nod.

Jason Cole reports Marcus Mariota (sprained MCL) is not expected to play Week 7

Pyro's take: Marcus Mariota has a grade 2 MCL sprain and will take 2-3 weeks to be healed. The Titans are good with Zach Mettenberger, so dont expect to see Mariota until he is 100 percent.

Chris Mortensen reports Marcus Mariota's sprained MCL is of the Grade-2 variety.

Pyro's take: Chris Mortensen reported via twitter "Marcus Mariota has a Grade 2 MCL sprain, per source. Status will remain uncertain. League is reviewing Olivier Vernon's hit on the QB."

Get the Mettenberger ready, no-way do they rush Mariota back before he is ready.

Marcus Mariota going full Forrest Gump "Running"

Pyro's take: Marcus Mariota has completely shown he is going to be a very promising quarterback, He has played well in three games, making the casual rookie mistake. But what about his skill to run with the football?

According to Paul Khuarski via twitter "Whiz: Torn about Mariota running more as he's throwing the ball well from the pocket. Will come at some point. Won't force it. " Mariota only has five rushes on the season.
