Ingram Showing Versatility

Pyro's take: “Mark Ingram fantastic job of setting up blocks on screen pass. Has really developed as pass catcher in recent years.” While this clip may not be jaw dropping, it is a perfect example of why he should be considered the most complete back on the Saints roster.

Fantasy Goo: Ingram’s ADP has been steadily dropping since the acquisition of AP and the Saints drafting Kamara. It has also been reported that Ingram was in the “dog house” at times during the 2016 season. In spite of that Ingram finished with the best rushing total (1044), total yards (1363) and total TD’s (10) of his career. Hit the draft kit to find out where we think he should be drafted.

Saints Schizophrenic RBs in Tough Matchup

Pyro's take: Mark Ingram's consistency has been left in 2015. The Saints 1st rounder has either exploded for 20+ point games or disappointed for less than 6. Hightower has been a secondary option at RB and cannot be trusted more than Ingram.

Fantasy Goo: Now these runners get the Cards who are the second best team allowing opposing RB's to under 14 FF Points per game. The Saints don't have much to play for at 5-8.

Ingram Good to Go (Toe Marvin Likely Out

Pyro's take: Mark Ingram will be active today. As Marvin Jones is unlikely to go per Adam Rapoport's Twitter.

Ingram Concussion Questionable to Play

Pyro's take: Say hello to Tim Hightower. Still not cleared from the concussion protocol, dont expect Ingram to get much work in this game and likely inactive.

Fantasy Goo: Timmy Hightower is looking like an end of season star again. Definitely get this backfield cuffed up if league format permits.

Ingram Back From Concussion Protocol

Pyro's take: Now it gets tricky, will Payton go with Ingram this weekend or Hightower? Now he has both as options again.

Fantasy Goo: With the trade deadline looming in most fantasy leagues, it is incredibly important to handcuff your RB's especially one with an injury history of Ingram. Try to sell Hightower HIGH to the Ingram owner hoping he'll bite.

Payton Finds Reason to Give Hightower Carries

Pyro's take: After a blow up game for Ingram (158 on 15 carries, 2 catches for 13 and 2 total TD's) Payton is looking to continue with the timeshare at RB. Proceed with caution as Denver has been a good defense this year, but have shown they too have holes. Don't expect Ingram and Hightower to make those look like Swiss Cheese. Both RB's can be considered RB2/Flex options this week.

The Million Dollar Saints RB Question

Pyro's take: Reports say it will be more of a time-share between the 2 Saint's RBs.

Fantasy Goo: In DFS, lots of folks will be on Hightower for his price point and last week's benching of Ingram. I think Ingram is the pivot play however.

Fantasy Goo: Either way, the 49'ers are giving up a league high 5.1 YPC. But, they have too much invested in Ingram to let one week get in the way. While I see Hightower getting more work, I still think it is Ingram's job and he should shine against this D.

Spiller a Healthy Scratch in Week #1

Pyro's take: Well, here we go again. News was positive in the preseason, it seemed like the Saints had bigger plans for Spiller this season after being largely ineffective and unused last year. Although he was not on the injury report this week and was a full go in practice, the Saints are giving Spiller a healthy scratch in Week #1

Fantasy Goo: Drew Brees is at home. In the last 5 seasons, he is the highest scoring fantasy QB when playing at home. This game is one of 3 expected to score over 50, so get yourself some Saints/Raiders action on DFS. Without Spiller, Ingram will likely get more catches out of the backfield.

New Orleans RB Situation

One of the big developments of last season was Mark Ingram emerging as a true every-down player

Pyro's take: One of the big developments of last season was Mark Ingram emerging as a true every-down player. As far as who makes the team, Ingram is the only lock. Tim Hightower seems like the best bet to back him up. It would be hard to envision Spiller not making the team, but he needs to prove he can still be productive.

Fantasy Goo: Mark Ingram had 25.03% of the Saints touches while he was on the field in 2015. As Ingram continues to become a receiving threat he will hold on to his nice draft position which is currently the 25th player selected in mocks. Last season Tim Hightower rewarded waiver wire hounds by keeping seasons alive with his surprising success with an AVG of over 20 touches per week from weeks 14-17 with 4 touchdowns. C.J. Spiller is no longer worth talking about as his career has become more of wishes than rewards. In his 6 years he has only had one solid season which was in 2012. If you have a deep roster you might want to draft Tim Hightower late or keep your waiver wire eyes open for him if Ingram gets banged up…again.

Mark Ingram and stardom

The only thing that stands between Mark Ingram and the Pro Bowl might be his health.

Pyro's take: The only thing that stands between Mark Ingram and the Pro Bowl might be his health. Ingram is no longer the young first-round pick who struggled to make the transition from Heisman Trophy to the pros; he spent 12 weeks among the NFL’s leaders in yards from scrimmage last fall. By almost any measure, he’d pushed his way onto the list of the league’s most productive backs.

Fantasy Goo: In 2015 Mark Ingram was the 17th ranked RB for touches per game with 18 which was below CJ2K, Forsett and Yeldon but, ahead of DMC, Miller and Lynch. Ingram made up 25.03% of the Saints percentage of offensive workload and 24.32 % of the Saints percentage of red zone workload. Mark is going near the top of the 3rd round and as the 12th RB taken in 12 team mock drafts at this time. If you believe he can stay healthy then make sure to grab Ingram who has also become a receiving threat with 5 passing targets per game in 2015.

Ingram Out, FYI

Pyro's take: Just in case you missed it, Ingram is out. The team signed Hightower in his place. I am not trusting Hightower or Spiller

Mark to Go

Mark Ingram looks ready to take the field. According to Mike Triplett via his twitter: "#Saints RB Mark Ingram said he's full go, taking all the normal reps, running, catching passes, not being eased in or babied."

This looks like a good sign, as he stated last week, he wanted to return for the Lions game.

Pyro's take: Mark Ingram has had a solid year before he went down with his injury, in two weeks, he has had 24 carries for 143 yards and three touchdowns. He was looking to be the primary back. Looks like his return will be 100% healthy.

Boosting the Run Game

Looks like a October 19th return date for Mark Ingram. They will be facing the Lions in just one week. "My plan is to be back out there next week versus Detroit," he said. Ingram has not practiced since breaking a bone in his hand at Cleveland in Week 2. He said he would have to be cleared by the medical staff after successfully competing in practice this week.

Pyro's take: With Mark Ingram's return it should elevate the New Orleans Saints run game. Look for October 19th if everything goes well, and a great time as bye-weeks are hitting full steam.

Ingram undergoes surgery

Mark Ingram has undergone surgery to repair the fracture in his hand. Two screws were inserted above Ingram's thumb during the procedure. Head coach Sean Payton has stated there is no chance Ingram can play, and his status will be "week to week."

Pyro's take: The important factor here is that Ingram will only be out this week, and a possibility of return for next week. Khiry Robinson and Pierre Thomas value has increased.

Ingram to miss a month

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram is expected to miss at least one month with a broken hand he suffered Sunday, a source told ESPN.

A broken hand will keep the Saints' Mark Ingram out for at least the next month.
Saints coach Sean Payton declined to offer any specifics on Ingram's injury Monday.

"Nothing now," Payton said. "I thought he ran really good. Shoot, he played hard. We'll evaluate where he's at. But nothing today with specifics in regards to any of these guys with injury."

Pyro's take: There is the Ingram we all know and despise. After two great performances Ingram will now be on the shelf for a month or more. During his time away Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson will probably get the bulk of the work. Upon his return though Ingram could still be an effective player for fantasy squads unless Robinson runs away with the job. Thankfully, the injury isn't to his legs so he should come back at a high level when he returns. It looks like Pierre Thomas will be used in a similar, yet probably slightly increased fashion while Robinson gets the early down carries.

Looking good in Saints offense

The NFL world was losing hope on Mark Ingram, after all he was a first round draft choice, 28th overall, in 2011, and has made a career of being not much more than a football flop is averaging 7.1 yards on 21 preseason carries. Going back to Week 15 of last season, Ingram has rushed for 397 yards on his last 65 carries (6.1 YPC) in a Saints uniform.

The numbers are nice, but it's also the way he has ran the ball. He has that competitive drive, and drives with authority. Ingram is displaying patience, vision, decisiveness, balance and explosion. He's accelerating through holes and breaking tackles on runs that would have gone for two or three yards in years past.Ingram can also catch the ball, as seen in the preseason against the Titans on a 23 yard pass catch and touchdown.

Pyro's take: Mark Ingram should have more opportunities to get his mojo working this year, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him dominate not only in standard leagues, but also in PPR. His ADP is 44th running back drafted, or 10th round in standard. In PPR he is 43rd ranked running back. This is great value, and he should be targeted for all leagues.

Mark Ingram out for week 5

New Orleans Saints wide receiver Lance Moore, safety Roman Harper, running back Mark Ingram, nose tackle Brodrick Bunkley and defensive end Tyrunn Walker have been officially ruled out for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears.

Pyro's take: Ingram has a been a disappointment all season and is not worth rostering at this point.

Mark Ingram misses practice with a toe injury

New Orleans Saints offensive guard Jahri Evans (hamstring), running back Mark Ingram (toe) and safety Roman Harper (knee) did not participate in Wednesday's practice session.

Ingram, who participated in the stretching portion of practice before leaving, was a new addition to the injury report.

Pyro's take: Mark Ingram has been an absolute fantasy disappointment and is on the verge of losing even more carries to Pierre Thomas. The extent of the injury is not known, but Thomas looks like a better and better option each week.
