Matt Jones

Indianapolis Colts

Does signing Matt Jones hurt Mack & Gore?

The Indianapolis Colts claimed Matt Jones off waivers after he was cut by the Washington Redskins. Matt was a 3rd rounder 3 seasons ago by the Redskins, and Marlon Mack was a 4th rounder this year for the Colts. The hype train was rolling down the tracks for Mack all preseason as he brought an element that the Colts haven't had in their backfield in ages, explosion! Personally, I believe this move is a sign that the Colts know Frank Gore is old and has lost some of his gusto, but the front office also is aware the Colts are going to have to run the ball a lot with Tolzien prior to Luck's return.

Fantasy Goo: Marlon Mack's touches just took a hit, but I strongly believe that Gore's touches get hurt more. It will take Matt a bit to figure out the playbook, and if Mack and Gore get it going early in the season Jones may just be some much-needed depth at RB. I've always liked Matt as a player, but he's a fumble away from "oh shit", even on his new team.

Curtis Samuel

Carolina Panthers

#ExplosionFactor Rookies

The 3 most explosive running backs from the 2017 NFL Draft based on “breakaway percentage,” which is the percentage of rushing yards earned on plays 15 yards or more are: Joe Mixon (Bengals) scored a 57.3 percent, Curtis Samuel (Panthers) had 53.8 percent and Marlon Mack (Colts) had a carry of 15+ yards on 52.3 percent of his carries last season in college.

Fantasy Goo: You know we love explosive players here at Pyro, and these 3 players fit the bill. We never like to end up with too many rookies on our rosters but Marlon Mack and recently turned to wideout Curtis Samuel are going in the teens in fantasy football drafts at the moment. Worth the ADP in my opinion. If you love Mixon, go for it, but it'll cost you if he's a backup his rookie season behind Jeremy Hill and Giovani Bernard. #ExplosionFactor

Mack Ready to Attack

Chuck Pagano heaps praise onto rookie RB Marlon Mack, "He's popping out there. He's a talented guy. He's showing great athleticism, great vision," said Pagano. "We were doing one-on-one pass protection drills against linebackers, and he's physical. He's got toughness. He's not afraid to stick his face in there and pick up blitzers."

Fantasy Goo: Frank Gore and Robert Turbin combined to break off 15 yard runs on only 11% of their carries. Mack on the other hand produced 15+ yard runs on 52% of his carries, fifth highest among this draft class. Mack got the workload to support a consistent fantasy output, but he is the most likely RB to mirror Jalen Richard and DeAndre Washington who both averaged over 5 yards per carry backing up Latavius Murray. -@pyro_Hartbeat RB Gold Diggers

Frank Gore

Indianapolis Colts

Opportunities in Colts Backfield

“As long as I’m healthy and my guys up front get me the opportunities, I’m going to be successful,’’ Gore said.
Offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski remains squarely in Gore’s corner, but there figures to be more of a backs-by-committee approach this season. “You can go a lot of different directions in that you can feature more things or different things with different people,’’ he said. “Some of that will be personnel-driven.’’

Fantasy Goo: With no improvements to the O-line, Robert Turbin showing life in camp, and Marlon Mack being drafted, I don’t see how Gore improves on last year’s total. He keeps on ticking like the energizer bunny, but I think that cliff is close. I’ve been high on him every year until now.
