Marvin is WR1 through 3 Weeks

Marvin Jones had two 100-yard games including the playoffs coming into this season, and has already doubled that.

Pyro's take: Marvin Jones had two 100-yard games including the playoffs coming into this season, and has already doubled that.

Do not pass on Marvin Jones

Detroit -- How efficient was Marvin Jones in the Detroit Lions' 30-14 exhibition loss to the Cincinnati Bengals?

Pyro's take: Detroit -- How efficient was Marvin Jones in the Detroit Lions' 30-14 exhibition loss to the Cincinnati Bengals? The wide receiver hauled in four passes for 65 yards while playing just 21 snaps in the contest. Had this been the regular season, he would have been on pace for a 200-yard performance.

Fantasy Goo: The Detroit Lions love to throw with Matthew Stafford. The Lions were 5th in the NFL in 2015 passing on 39.5% of their offensive plays. With Golden Tate and Anquan Boldin on the team they have a good but not great trio of wide receivers. After this past game Marvin Jones who is entering his prime at age 26 looks to be the best value of the bunch. Currently, Marvin Jones is going in the 7th round of 12 team mocks and Tate is going in the 4th round. The Lions will pass often which Makes Marvin a very nice 7th round choice if he stays that low but, after a good night he will climb up to the 6th round soon.

From 1B to 1A, Jones Makes the Jump

d

Pyro's take: Shortly after OTAs, Tim Twentyman, former beat reporter who is now on the Lions payroll, said the targets between these two were going to be a great deal closer than most think. Well, it appears that Jones is heading for the lion share.

Fantasy goo: I've seen Tate creep into the 3rd round in PPR formats. Jones represents significant value as he is going in the 6th. In fact, in standard formats, I could see Marvin Jones being the more valuable of the two as he has a much deeper average depth of target (In 2015 Jones was targeted 7 yards further downfield), and is a better red zone threat having wrapped up around 40% of his career red zone targets.

The Lions Starting WRS

s

Pyro's take: Boldin's was running with the first team as Lions camp opened. His presence certainly helps the locker room. Tim Twentyman has been covering the Lions for a long time. He has gone on record as saying that Tate and Jones will be a 1A and a 1B, with many people surprised at how many targets Jones will end up with when all is said and done. Twentyman wnt on to say: "Jones has already shown to have a nice repertoire of short, intermediate and deep playmaking ability. He and Stafford seem to already be building a nice rapport". Stafford should be throwing a lot this year, and Jones is going to be a big factor in that offense.

Fantasy goo: Personally, I think the arrival of Boldin will detract more from Tate. Last season, Tate had an average depth of target of just 5.8 yards down filed. That is in similar territory to Boldin, whose ADoT was 8.2. Jones works farther down-field as he was targeted 12.8 yards off the line on average. As of now, Tate's ADP in PPR leagues has him creeping into the 3rd round. Boldin is going 13th, but will climb. To me, the best value is Jones who is going in the 8th round.

Marvin Jones (hamstring) has been removed from the injury report.

MJ

Pyro's take: Marvin Jones is healthy enough to be removed from any injury report is a good sign. He will be the number three target behind A.J. Green and Tyler Eifert.

Sanu to See the a Vulnerable D agaisnt WR2s

d

Pyro's take: Jones faces the Pittsburgh secondary. According to Football Outsiders, no other team in the NFL allows more yards to opposing WR2s. There should be plenty to go around. Vegas has this set as the second highest scoring game of Week 14. Finally, he goes up against William Gay, a sweet matchup for him that Dalton can exploit.

Marvin Jones caught 4-of-9 targets for 44 yards

MJ

Pyro's take: Marvin Jones led the team in targets but didnt much with his four receptions from those 10 targets. He averaged just 10-yards a reception. Its a toss up who was the best receiver tonight between Eifert, Green, and Jones. All three were miserable.

Jones Could have a Big Week #4

Jones week 4

Pyro's take: Jones and the Bengals face KC in Week #4. No other team is giving up more yards to opposing #2 WRs. Through 3 games, the #2 WR on the opposing team is averaging nearly 110 yards per game.

Could Require Surgery

Marvin Jones has been out since prior to week one. He over came his primary injury and was ready to go. Then two weeks ago he hurt his ankle, and it just seems as though he has not been able to recover. This may mean he could have surgery to relieve the discomfort he is facing. IF he does require surgery his season will be over.

Pyro's take: The situation looks grim, and if you need the bench space, I would drop him. If your comfortable where your at, then hold on to him and wait for official word. Mohammad Sanu will continue to replace him until he can come-back if he does come-back.

Jones breaks foot

Marvin Jones broke his foot in practice today, leaving a huge hole for their second wide receiver spot. Geoff Hobson of the team's offcial web-site for the Cincinnati Bengals, has tweeted that Jones has had "A Pin has been put in fifth metatarsal...Now the question is if they put him on IR return 8 games into season, PUP him for first 6 or maybe back sooner...Lewis says it will be a few weeks for Jones. Similar injury knocked Sanu out of last month of 12 season."

Pyro's take: It appears that Marvin Jones will be out at least a month, which may have him back for week one of the regular season. It will take some time to get back to game shape, but should have little impact on your fantasy team. Where it does effect is at quarterback with Andy Dalton and the rest of the receiving game.

Mohamed Sanu or Dane Sanzenbacher will likely replace Jones, but another intriguing prospect would be rookie James Wright. Wright had a touchdown in week one of the pre-season, and has the size and athleticism to make great plays. He was the Bengals seventh round draft choice from LSU.

Marvin Jones was greatly paired with A.J. Green, and finished the season with Jones emerged as a playmaker last season, catching 51 passes for 712 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Jones blows up and will soon be owned in all leagues

Jones caught eight passes for 122 yards and four touchdowns – all career highs.

The four receiving touchdowns set a Bengals franchise record. Jones also tied Corey Dillon and Larry Kinnebrew for most total touchdowns in a game.

Only one time in his college career did Jones score even two touchdowns in a game and speculated he'd date back to Pop Warner days to find any other time he hit paydirt that often. Fitting really, considering Andy Dalton and Jones have looked like they are playing against little tikes the last three weeks.

“He's had the potential since he's been here,” Dalton said. “I think he's just comfortable with everything that we're doing and everything that we're asking him to do. For him to come out and have a game like this, we needed it.”

Pyro's take: Jones had been an improving receiver heading into this career performance this Sunday. Jones now has a touchdown catch in each of his last 3 games. Over that span he has 15 catches for 250 yards and 6 touchdowns.

The 23 year old has been developing a nice chemistry with Andy Dalton, and the Bengals have been dying to find other options in the passing game to take some pressure off of AJ Green. Dalton has been spreading the ball around as of late, and Jones has been a favorite redzone target. Hopefully you grabbed him when he was on our waiver wire pick up 3 weeks ago, otherwise you better check quick to see if he is available.
