Fantasy Outlook 2010

Now that LeBron is gone, fans in Cleveland can crown a new king, King Montario! Okay, that might be a little premature and ambitious, but Montario will start for the Browns sooner rather than later. He impressed head coach Eric Mangini during OTAs and many beat writers predict him to beat out Jerome Harrison for the starting gig as early as Week 1. Montario is fast- he ran a 4.49 40 at the Combine- but he is also a bruise who likens himself to former Browns and Vols running back Jamal Lewis. He will have an impact right away on the Browns, but when you’re drafting running backs remember, it’s the Browns.

~There are a lot of questions on the offense, including aging QB Jake Delhomme so it’s tough to see the Browns playing with leads a lot, thereby lessening the chance Hardesty gets carries late in games.

~Hardesty will start and be the feature back for most of the season

Hardest-Who?

Montario Hardesty. Montario Hardesty. Montario Hardesty. Has it sunk it yet that this guy is a football player and not a Venetian chef? In case you’ve never heard of this guy before, or of anyone with the name Montario, here’s a quick primer.

Hardesty played football for the University of Tennessee. During his time there, he was injured more times than Kenny from South Park. He tore his ACL his freshman year in 2005, had arthoscopic knee surgery and only five starts in 2006, played with a high ankle sprain in 2007 while rushing for less yards than 2006 and had a stress reaction in his left foot in 2008. Overall, during those four years, he had 278 carries for 1046 yards.

Along came his senior year, and finally healthy, Hardesty showed what he could do. He ran more times last year (282) than he did the previous four years combined as well as doubling his career yardage total- he ran for 1,345 yards last year and 13 touchdowns. It’s this performance that enticed the Browns to trade two fifth-round draft picks and a third-rounder to nab this guy at No. 59.

Hardesty signed a four-year, $2.799 contract in late July that contained $1,572,750 guaranteed and a $1 million signing bonus. There is also a "likely to be earned" one-time escalator available worth $572,750. The terms of the deal are unknown at this point:
