2012 Pros and Cons

(+) Pierre Garcon put up admiral numbers in a very lack luster passing game for the Colts last season

(+) Actually had the best season of his career last year WITHOUT Peyton Manning

(+) RG3 posted some of the best deep passing numbers ever in college football least year and if there is one thing Garcon can do is beat the defense over the top

(+) Garcon is just turning 26 before the season and should be entering the prime of his career this season

(-) Garcon had three games in which he put up over 24 points, without those games Garcon becomes a much more pedestrian wide receiver

(-) Garcon has been dubbed the teams number one receiver by default, but with a young Leonard Hankerson and a savvy Santana Moss he could be in for a bigger battle than expected

(-) With the newly established talent on the offensive side of the ball it might be hard for Garcon to see 134 targets again this year

2009 Review

Pierre Garcon may have been just an unknown speedy kid out of a Division III school to start the 2009 season, but he sure didn’t end up that way.  At all.  Granted, Peyton Manning can make shit-on-a-stick look good if it had two hands and feet, but a lot of the big plays Pierre made last year, he made happen all on his own.  He left the total receptions side of the equation to All Pros Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark (slot man Austin Collie got his share too), but make no mistake about it, Garcon was a huge part in the Colts overall success.  His speed and quickness are downright filthy, and when they needed him most in the playoffs, he was right there to catch touchdowns and put up a 151-yard game when they needed it.  If he sticks around in Indy for awhile, the sky is the limit for this kid.

~  Ranked 36th in the league with 101.5 WR fantasy points (basic scoring system)

~  Tied for 54th in the league with 4 receiving touchdowns

~  Ranked 44th in the league with 765 receiving yards

~  Ranked 41st in the league with 54.6 receiving yards per game

~  Tied for 74th in the league with 47 receptions

~  Tied for 51st in the league with 91 targets

~  Ranked 24th in the league with 13 receptions of 20+ yards

~  Ranked 50th in the league with 33 catches for first downs

~  Tied for 52nd in the league with 285 yards after the catch (YAC)

2010 Fantasy Outlook

After seeing what he did in the playoffs last year, the Colts feel genuinely confident in throwing Garcon out wide opposite Reggie Wayne to start the 2010 season.  However, because he’s not a high-volume receptions guy (and doesn’t need to be) in this offense, he might not work out to be much more than a #3 WR on your fantasy team.  That being said, wohhhh are those big weeks going to be nice.  He put up a few of those during the season last year, and likely will put up a couple more than that in 2010, but the lack of consistency in that regard keeps his fantasy ceiling as being a high-end WR3.

~ Anthony Gonzalez being back in the WR mix shouldn’t affect his playing time with any significance

~ He’ll have had a full offseason working with Manning and the starters.  Bonus!

~ Coming from a small, Division III school, you know he has the work ethic to stay on his game

~ The Colts consistently have one of the highest-octane offenses in the league

Garcon battled nagging knee and ankle problems for a bit last year, but he's since recovered and looking fine for the start of the 2010 season

Garcon Strikes Gold In The Bay Area

Pyro's take: Pierre Garcon is a good WR, but for reference he will be making $1 Million less than AB. Garcon has been seen donating much of his money towards relief for his hometown Haiti.

Fantasy Goo: Despite the 49ers paying him like a Brown or a Jones, dont expect to be getting 16/17th of the production. Garcon's stock is slightly raised from Washington, but not too much.

Time To Strike Gold

Pyro's take: There are 15 WR's with between 80-100 targets on the season. Diggs, Tate and Garcon all are among these WR's, but have no more than 2 touchdowns.

Fantasy Goo: Look for these numbers to regress to the mean in the final quarter of the season. The high targets and low touchdowns make these three players to look at for late season pushes as their are all on playoff contenders.

Garcon has raised his floor as of late

Pyro's take: Waiver Wire after Week 6: Garcon gave owners another solid performance, catching six passes for 77 yards. The veteran has given a nice floor the past few weeks, and could be a good add for a bye week replacement when the matchup is right.

Giving it a Go in Week 9

Pyro's take: Desean has not played since Week 1 but it looks like he is going to suit up for Week 9. HE should draw a tough matchup with Butler, Garcon has a nicer CB matchup vs. Justin Coleman, but if DeSean IS really healthy, and I have to believe he is, then I think they look to get him involved early.

More Involved

The Washington Redskins need to get Pierre Garcon more involved in the offense. Garcon led the Washington offense and the NFL with a franchise-record 113 catches and 184 targets and ranked eighth with 1,346 receiving yards, last season.

In week one with Robert Griffin at the helm, Garcon caught 10 passes, week two he was largely invisible with just one reception, and then in week three he exploded again for 11 catches for 138 yards and a touchdown, but has disappeared after that.

“It’s football. You know how it is, man,” Garcon said with a grunt when asked to assess the decrease in production and opportunities. “You never know when your number’s going to be called. You just have to be ready.”

Garcon has just 30 catches for 309 yards and two touchdowns. He has 10 fewer catches and 157 fewer yards than he did at this point last season. Garcon also has received 3.3 fewer targets per game. As a result, he ranks 20th in the league in targets, 21st in receptions and 41st in yards.

Pierre Garcon knew that coming into this season things would be different. The acquisition of DeSean Jackson and the receiving ability of Jordan Reed, was going to cut down on his targets. Also, with a different quarterback in Kirk Cousins, that meant a different style of play. “Yeah, it looks like [he is forgotten] compared to last year,” said former Redskins running back Brian Mitchell, an analyst for CSN Washington. “But last year, outside of [Garcon], they did have Jordan Reed, but he was hurt most of the year, and they didn’t have a lot of other options. This year, DeSean Jackson is taking some of those targets and now Jordan Reed, since he’s back.”

Pyro's take: Garcon will just need to be patient, and the passes will flow his direction. Will he have last year number's, probably not, but he is still a stud wide receiver, and will hit the occasional 10 receptions 120 yards and one touchdown type game.

Garcon has career day

A week after voicing frustrations over a sputtering passing attack, wide receiver Pierre Garcon had a career day by recording seven catches for 172 yards to help spur the Washington Redskins onto a 30-24 overtime defeat of the San Diego Chargers.

The 172-yard performance marked the most by a Redskins receiver since Santana Moss tallied 178 receiving yards at Detroit in 2009.

It marked the 10th 100-yard game of Garcon’s career and his fourth as a Redskin.

“It feels good to be targeted — feels good to have a chance. They always target me, we just converted on them today and made things happen,” Garcon said.

Pyro's take: This was a huge game for fantasy owners of Garcon. In his previous 7 games, Pierre had only 1 game in which he had better than 11.6 yards per catch. In fact, he also had 4 games with less than 10 yards per catch. So while he was being targeted, they were all short passes. Not this week.

Garcon averaged 24.6 yards per catch on Sunday, and hopefully this is a sign of things to come. The Waiter has a chance to put up monster numbers, getting an average of 11 targets per game. Garcon will have a chance to double down with a nice match-up against the Vikings next week.

The wait is over for "The Waiter"

Pierre Garcon was just cleared to practice after missing all of the team's offseason practices while recovering from right shoulder surgery. After missing some time right out of the gates last season with turf toe, the question is whether "The Waiter" (which is what Garçon translates to) is injury prone or just had a bad run over the past year. We'll soon find out.

Pyro's take: I was ahead of the game last year and went high on Garcon… I looked like a genius game 1, when he had 4 catches for 109 yards and an 88-yard TD before the first quarter was over. But he hurt his toe on that long TD and was a scratch for the next 5 weeks. That sucks, but I want to focus on the positive - he is RGIII's WR1, unquestionably.

RGIII's injury will make it so he has to stay in the pocket and throw more… his favorite target will reap the benefits of that. I believe Garcon is a 80+ catch, 1,000 yard and 10 touchdown player this fall if he stays healthy - and I'm willing to take him in the 5th round of 10 team leagues to be the guy that gets those points.

Colts coach still vague on Week 16 playing time

When addressing the media during his Monday press conference, Colts coach Jim Caldwell was still indeterminate as to whether his star players would play the whole game, a few series, or even at all against the Jets next Sunday.

Pyro's take: He also said that playing time would be determined by a player's health, but that could mean anything at this point as Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Pierre Garcon, and Joseph Addai have all dealt with various nagging injuries throughout the past bunch of weeks.
We'll keep you posted on with any and all updates coming through as we know many fantasy football seasons depend on some of these Colts players.

Garcon should play entire game tonight

The Colts listed Peyton Manning (glute), Reggie Wayne (foot), Pierre Garcon (knee), and Joseph Addai (knee) as probable on their Week 15 injury report and all are expected to start as usual Thursday night.
Donald Brown, however, is still out with a chest injury.

Pyro's take: This was expected, though how long they end up playing is the real question. If the Colts manage to get a big lead against the Jaguars tonight, expect the starters to be pulled for the 4th quarter so as not to risk injury. Our guess is that it won't be a blowout, so it's safe to use all these guys on your fantasy football team this weekend.

Garcon active for the Colts

Wide receiver Pierre Garcon (ankle) is active for the Colts as expected today.

Pyro's take: Garcon could be used as a decent flex play today, but isn't worth much more than that for your fantasy football team this weekend.

Garcon questionable, but will play Sunday

Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon (ankle) practiced in full again Friday but is listed as questionable on the team's injury report.

Pyro's take: Pierre is fully expected to play, but is merely a mediocre WR3 on your fantasy football team this weekend.

Garcon misses practice with ankle injury

Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon (ankle) missed practice on Wednesday.

Pyro's take: Pierre had the same injury last week and played just fine on Sunday. Consider him a WR3 or flex play for your fantasy football team this Sunday.

Garcon active versus the Texans

Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon (ankle) is active against the Texans today.

Pyro's take: Garcon will get his usual targets with Anthony Gonzalez still out of the lineup. Feel free to use him as a WR3 or flex player on your fantasy football team.

Garcon expected to play against Houston

Even though Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon (ankle) got the day off of practice on Friday, he is still expected to be on the field this weekend versus the Texans.

Pyro's take: Garcon will play on Sunday, no worries there. Any Colts receiver is always worth at least a flex play on your fantasy football team, so if you're stuck between Garcon and someone else, you can't go wrong throwing an Indy WR in there.

Garcon set to take advantage of opportunity

Colts wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez (knee) was declared inactive for the game against the Rams today.

Pyro's take: Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon will have their fantasy football value sky-high for at least one more week, so if you have either one of them on your team, don't hesitate to start them against a weak Rams D.

Hank Baskett not quite there yet

When asked how close he is to learning the Indianapolis Colts offense so he could get out there and play, wide receiver Hank Baskett said that at times, he feels like his head is about to explode with all the information he's taking in, but that he's getting there.

Pyro's take: Indy, and Peyton Manning especially, need guys to be exactly where they are supposed to be on the field for their offense to work. Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon know that, and will be the main guys to take pressure off of Wayne and Clark until Baskett learns the playbook.

Colts pick up some competition for Garcon

The Indianapolis Colts picked up wide receiver Hank Baskett to fill the hole created in the WR corps by Anthony Gonzalez's injury.

Pyro's take: Hank will start as the WR4 behind Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie, but he could move into the WR2 slot before long. Garcon is inexperienced, and Collie is mainly a slot guy, so the 6'4" target that Baskett is could be what Manning needs to keep his offensive machine rolling. He's worth a pickup in any case.

Garcon in line to start with Gonzalez injury

Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that the Indianapolis Colts will be meeting with team doctors tonight to discuss the injury to Anthony Gonzalez's knee and that the team is bracing itself for a lengthy absence from their No. 2 wide receiver.

Pyro's take: Colts coach Jim Caldwell will have his hands full trying to fill the vacancy and will have to depend on either second-year wide-out Pierre Garcon or rookie Austin Collie to fill the role. Look for Collie to stay in the slot as the WR3 and Garcon to man the WR2 until the team comes up with a different plan. Marvin Harrison's number should still be lurking in the team Rolodex, right?
