Pierre Garcon

Indianapolis Colts

2009 Review

Pierre Garcon may have been just an unknown speedy kid out of a Division III school to start the 2009 season, but he sure didn’t end up that way.  At all.  Granted, Peyton Manning can make shit-on-a-stick look good if it had two hands and feet, but a lot of the big plays Pierre made last year, he made happen all on his own.  He left the total receptions side of the equation to All Pros Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark (slot man Austin Collie got his share too), but make no mistake about it, Garcon was a huge part in the Colts overall success.  His speed and quickness are downright filthy, and when they needed him most in the playoffs, he was right there to catch touchdowns and put up a 151-yard game when they needed it.  If he sticks around in Indy for awhile, the sky is the limit for this kid.

2010 Fantasy Outlook

After seeing what he did in the playoffs last year, the Colts feel genuinely confident in throwing Garcon out wide opposite Reggie Wayne to start the 2010 season.  However, because he’s not a high-volume receptions guy (and doesn’t need to be) in this offense, he might not work out to be much more than a #3 WR on your fantasy team.  That being said, wohhhh are those big weeks going to be nice.  He put up a few of those during the season last year, and likely will put up a couple more than that in 2010, but the lack of consistency in that regard keeps his fantasy ceiling as being a high-end WR3.

~ Anthony Gonzalez being back in the WR mix shouldn’t affect his playing time with any significance

~ He’ll have had a full offseason working with Manning and the starters.  Bonus!

~ Coming from a small, Division III school, you know he has the work ethic to stay on his game

~ The Colts consistently have one of the highest-octane offenses in the league

Breaking News

Colts coach still vague on Week 16 playing time expand +

When addressing the media during his Monday press conference, Colts coach Jim Caldwell was still indeterminate as to whether his star players would play the whole game, a few series, or even at all against the Jets next Sunday.

Pyro's Take:

He also said that playing time would be determined by a player's health, but that could mean anything at this point as Peyton Manning, Reggie Wayne, Dallas Clark, Pierre Garcon, and Joseph Addai have all dealt with various nagging injuries throughout the past bunch of weeks.
We'll keep you posted on with any and all updates coming through as we know many fantasy football seasons depend on some of these Colts players.

Garcon should play entire game tonight expand +

The Colts listed Peyton Manning (glute), Reggie Wayne (foot), Pierre Garcon (knee), and Joseph Addai (knee) as probable on their Week 15 injury report and all are expected to start as usual Thursday night.
Donald Brown, however, is still out with a chest injury.

Pyro's Take:

This was expected, though how long they end up playing is the real question. If the Colts manage to get a big lead against the Jaguars tonight, expect the starters to be pulled for the 4th quarter so as not to risk injury. Our guess is that it won't be a blowout, so it's safe to use all these guys on your fantasy football team this weekend.

Garcon active for the Colts expand +

Wide receiver Pierre Garcon (ankle) is active for the Colts as expected today.

Pyro's Take:

Garcon could be used as a decent flex play today, but isn't worth much more than that for your fantasy football team this weekend.

Garcon questionable, but will play Sunday expand +

Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon (ankle) practiced in full again Friday but is listed as questionable on the team's injury report.

Pyro's Take:

Pierre is fully expected to play, but is merely a mediocre WR3 on your fantasy football team this weekend.

Garcon misses practice with ankle injury expand +

Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon (ankle) missed practice on Wednesday.

Pyro's Take:

Pierre had the same injury last week and played just fine on Sunday. Consider him a WR3 or flex play for your fantasy football team this Sunday.

Garcon active versus the Texans expand +

Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon (ankle) is active against the Texans today.

Pyro's Take:

Garcon will get his usual targets with Anthony Gonzalez still out of the lineup. Feel free to use him as a WR3 or flex player on your fantasy football team.

Garcon expected to play against Houston expand +

Even though Colts wide receiver Pierre Garcon (ankle) got the day off of practice on Friday, he is still expected to be on the field this weekend versus the Texans.

Pyro's Take:

Garcon will play on Sunday, no worries there. Any Colts receiver is always worth at least a flex play on your fantasy football team, so if you're stuck between Garcon and someone else, you can't go wrong throwing an Indy WR in there.

Garcon set to take advantage of opportunity expand +

Colts wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez (knee) was declared inactive for the game against the Rams today.

Pyro's Take:

Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon will have their fantasy football value sky-high for at least one more week, so if you have either one of them on your team, don't hesitate to start them against a weak Rams D.

Hank Baskett not quite there yet expand +

When asked how close he is to learning the Indianapolis Colts offense so he could get out there and play, wide receiver Hank Baskett said that at times, he feels like his head is about to explode with all the information he's taking in, but that he's getting there.

Pyro's Take:

Indy, and Peyton Manning especially, need guys to be exactly where they are supposed to be on the field for their offense to work. Austin Collie and Pierre Garcon know that, and will be the main guys to take pressure off of Wayne and Clark until Baskett learns the playbook.

Colts pick up some competition for Garcon expand +

The Indianapolis Colts picked up wide receiver Hank Baskett to fill the hole created in the WR corps by Anthony Gonzalez's injury.

Pyro's Take:

Hank will start as the WR4 behind Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie, but he could move into the WR2 slot before long. Garcon is inexperienced, and Collie is mainly a slot guy, so the 6'4" target that Baskett is could be what Manning needs to keep his offensive machine rolling. He's worth a pickup in any case.

Garcon in line to start with Gonzalez injury expand +

Chris Mortensen of ESPN is reporting that the Indianapolis Colts will be meeting with team doctors tonight to discuss the injury to Anthony Gonzalez's knee and that the team is bracing itself for a lengthy absence from their No. 2 wide receiver.

Pyro's Take:

Colts coach Jim Caldwell will have his hands full trying to fill the vacancy and will have to depend on either second-year wide-out Pierre Garcon or rookie Austin Collie to fill the role. Look for Collie to stay in the slot as the WR3 and Garcon to man the WR2 until the team comes up with a different plan. Marvin Harrison's number should still be lurking in the team Rolodex, right?
