2009 Review

The Harvard graduate has gone a long way to prove that IQ does not relate to football IQ and on-field success.  During his draft process, Fitzpatrick received one of the highest scores on the Wonderlic test (48 of 50) ever recorded.  Ryan started the season as a backup in '09, but was forced into duty when Trent Edwards was injured in Week 5.

Fitzmagic back?

Pyro's take: Ryan Fitzpatrick has the ultimate get right matchup against the Browns this weekend. They have allowed multiple passing touchdown to every passer so far.

With Geno Smith gone for the year, Fitzpatrick will have a great matchup to recapture his magic.

Jets To Name Geno Smith Starter For Week Seven

Pyro's take: ESPN's Adam Schefter reports that the New York Jets will announce Geno Smith as their new starting quarterback.

Fantasy Goo: This isn't terribly surprising, given that former starter Ryan Fitzpatrick has been abysmal so far this season. Still, Smith can't be seen as much of an upgrade at this point, and it leaves the fantasy value of wide receiver Brandon Marshall in limbo. Smith is no better than a low-end QB2 in deep leagues if even that. At 1 and 5 the Jets season is all but lost it's just a matter of time before we get to see if Bryce Petty can be the answer for Gangreen.

Sweating Brandon Marshall

"The school I come from is, don't rule me out until Sunday. I need all the way up until pregame warmup to see if I'm good to go," Marshall said

Pyro's take: "The school I come from is, don't rule me out until Sunday. I need all the way up until pregame warmup to see if I'm good to go," Marshall said

Fantasy Goo: Quincy Enunwa is a rising talent in the Jets offense and if Brandon Marshall misses any time you might want to use him in your DFS lineup this weekend. He has already played very well and if he becomes the WR2 this week he could top 100 yards or score a touchdown and if you were a good little boy or girl he may do both. Fitzpatrick has already bonded with Quincy.

Ryan Fitzpatrick Looks To Improve On Thursday Night

Ryan Fitzpatrick

Pyro's take: Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Jets' offense will look to improve Week 2 against the Buffalo Bills.

Fantasy Goo:Fitzpatrick and several Jets' players narrowly missed out on larger fantasy outputs Week 1. He'll be on a short week and traveling to Buffalo for Week 2 when he looks to turn things around against the Bills.A team that beat the Jets twice last season, including a week 17 that eliminated them from the playoffs.

Fitzmagic Is Back In The Big Apple As The Jets Get their Veteran Quarterback To Ink A One Year Deal

Can Ryan Fitzpatrick

Pyro's take: Can Ryan Fitzpatrick lead the New York Jets into the playoffs? NFL Network's Kurt Warner thinks so "this could be the year that Jets can make a run at the AFC East Division title." The Jets signed Fitzy to Virtually a 1 year 12 million dollar deal with incentives that can boost it to 15 million on the eve of their first day of training camp in a similar stealth as they did DE Mo Wilkerson.

Fantasy Goo: Fitzpatricks return can only mean better things for a Jets offense that was one the league's best in red zone efficiency. His command of the Chan Gailey scheme should be even stronger this season as continuity with his Recievers and the addition of All-Pro pass catching RB Matt Forte could mean that the beard is in line for another record season in 2016.

Plan A vs Plan B in the land of J.E.T.S.

“I think Geno can be a good starter, but he’s got to prove it in training camp like everybody else,” Bowles told The News.

Pyro's take: “I think Geno can be a good starter, but he’s got to prove it in training camp like everybody else,” Bowles told The News. “It’s not just about the quarterback position. You got to have a team around that position to play ball, but he’s been in the system a year. He has a better grasp of it going into training camp and we’ll see what he does.”

Fantasy Goo: In 2013 Geno had 18 combined touchdowns and 25 turnovers then followed that in 2014 with 14 combined touchdowns and 16 turnovers. Last season in 2015 Geno only touched the field once which was during week 8. Geno who is only 25 would be given a better opportunity if this was back in the 80’s or later when teams let quarterbacks mature. These days you better impress within two or the franchise begins hunting for a new kid in town or in this case a 33 year old Ryan Fitzpatrick who may be related to Dick Fitzpatrick but, I am not sure. I am pretty sure that I was a believer in Fitzpatrick last year though and Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker would agree. Besides, we always here about a threat of holdout but, almost every time the pen hits-the-paper before the season starts.

Ryan Fitzpatrick And Jets Stalemate Could Linger Into Preseason

The Jets

Pyro's take: The Jets are reportedly waiting to see not only practice reps in training camp but also game reps in the preseason for Geno Smith as they continue to consider re-signing Ryan Fitzpatrick. (Ian Rapoport on Twitter)

Fantasy Goo: There appears to be no end in sight to this stalemate, as Fitzpatrick could remain unsigned into the preseason. His absence impacts not only his fantasy value but also the value of the Jets' playmakers. I do believe however a deal will get done sooner rather than later as the Jets recently signed DE Mohamed Wilkerson to a long term deal which in turn helped free up some cap space and a little wiggle room to Retain the services of The Bearded veteran QB.

QB Ryan Fitzpatrick Wants To Return To The Jets

Speaking for the first time

Pyro's take: Speaking for the first time since the end of the 2015 season, quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick told reporters that he wants to return to the Jets and has no interest in retiring.

There were rumors swirling that Fitzpatrick would rather retire than play for too little money, but that doesn't appear to be the case. Fitzpatrick was spotted at a golf tournament when he was questioned by reporters. Odds are high the two sides work out a deal that benefits both, but when that will be is anyone's guess. Fortunately, Fitzpatrick has already established a rapport with receivers Brandon Marshall and Eric Decker, so any missed practice time shouldn't be too detrimental to the teams success.

GM Mike Maccagnan plans to open talks with free agent Ryan Fitzpatrick "in the near future."

Pyro's take: "We're going to talk to Ryan's people here in the very near future," general manager Mike Maccagnan said Friday morning on WFAN radio's "Boomer and Carton Show."

"We have time, obviously, before free agency, and we really would like to get Ryan back in the fold. [Head coach] Todd [Bowles] has said that. Obviously, myself and the rest of the organization feel very strongly about this.

"I think it's a good situation for all of us, and we just have to go through this process, and hopefully we can come to an agreement where it's fair and everybody's happy with it going forward."

Ryan Fitzpatrick said he'd "love to be back" with the Jets in 2016.

Pyro's take: Fitzpatrick will be a free agent, and head coach Todd Bowles said he would like to see him back for another season.

"He's playing well," Bowles said. "Obviously, you do those things after the season. You like the person, you like the player."

Fitzpatrick has passed for 3,129 yards with 25 touchdowns and 11 interceptions this season.

"Yeah, I'd love to be back."

Excellent Stream Candidate as Always

Pyro's take: Fitzpatrick is a great stream candidate for Week `11. HE is available in over 50% of most leagues and shjould be a QB1 in Week 11. HE is throwing to Marshall and Decker who have 10 red zone targets total in the last two weeks. No single receiver has more than 5 in that time. Fitz has scored multiple TDs in every game with double digit attempts except 1. Since Week 5, their bye, he only has 3 INTs.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) confirmed start on Sunday

Pyro's take: Manish Meta stated via Twitter "Ryan Fitzpatrick says he will start vs Texans"

He'll slide in as a mid-range QB2 against his former Houston teammates and their defense against the pass.

Ryan Fitzpatrick (thumb) could start on Sunday

Pyro's take: According to the New York Jets Twitter "Bowles: Fitzpatrick not at practice today, resting from surgery, which went fine. Expectation is for him to be back on Wednesday."

He is questionable at this point, but if he plays look for him to be a low 1 to a mid 2 at the quarterback position against Houston.

Ryan Fitzpatrick completed 15-of-34 passes for 193 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions added three rushes for 30 yards.

Pyro's take: It wouldnt be Fitzpatrick if he didnt throw interceptions. His deep ball looked weak and his own team hurt him with drops. He did connect with Marshall and Decker for touchdowns.

His first interception was because Marshall screwed up and then his other was a desperation heave.

Jets will take on Houston next week.

Ryan Fitzpatrick will undergo surgery on his left thumb Friday.

Pyro's take: New York Jets team Twitter announced "Bowles: QB Ryan Fitzpatrick will undergo thumb surgery tomorrow.

The understanding is that he could be available for game vs. HOU."

Fitzpatrick Job

Pyro's take: Rich Cimini has reported via twitter that "Not that there's much doubt, but Bowles said Ryan Fitzpatrick would be QB even if Geno Smith were healthy."

The moment Fitzgerald was named starter due to Geno Smith injury he was a lock. IF somehow the Jets start stumbling or out of the picture, then Geno will most likely return.

Sets Franchise Record

Fitzpatrick was back in the starting saddle after Ryan Mallett was injured and out for the season last week. Fitz threw for a career-high and franchise record six touchdown passes in the Week 13 game against the Tennessee Titans. He finished 24 of 33 with 358 yards, the six touchdowns came with zero interceptions.

Pyro's take: Fitzpatrick has a way of cutting up bad teams, and that was shown on Sunday. This up coming game he has the Jaguars and then the Colts, Ravens and Jags in week 17. Fitz could easily be a valid in two-quarterback leagues or for streaming purposes.

12/01/14, 06:41 PM CST by Vaaal-verde

Back in the Saddle

Due to the torn pectoral muscle of Ryan Mallett it appears that Ryan Fitzpatrick will be back in the saddle for the Houston Texans. According to John McClain Texans beat writer "If the MRI shows a tear in Mallett's pectoral muscle, he could miss several games. The bottom line is that Ryan Fitzpatrick is likely back."

Pyro's take: There is little doubt that Fitzpatrick is going to be the starter, as the Texans are still in the playoff hunt, but if eliminated, look for their rookie draft choice Tom Savage.

Fitzpatrick now a Texan

The Houston Texans signed Ryan Fitzpatrick to a two year contract. Fitzpatrick will move over from the Titans, who he started nine games for and threw 2,454 yards and 14 touchdowns. He is a nine year veteran who has 77 starts in 85 appearances. He got the start in week 8 due to Jake Locker being injured, and out for the season.

Pyro's take: The well traveled Fitzpatrick has now made a home in 5 different cities in just 9 years. He has just been one of those players that nobody wants, unless he is a free-agent. Hell, he wasn't even drafted until the seventh (last) round of the NFL draft in 2005. With Fitzgerald coming to Houston, it forced Schaub to be traded to Oakland. Ryan will now be a starter in a strong offense, and can be had cheap, in most drafts.
