Tashard hasn't missed a game in his two-year career thus far. No worries here

Choice injures hand in Week 16 win

Cowboys running back Tashard Choice injured his hand on a catch in the second half of the game against the Redskins Sunday night but said it wouldn't be a problem going forward.

Pyro's take: The game in Week 17 against the Eagles is for the division title, so we expect to see Choice get his normal workload. He would have gotten extra playing time if the game was meaningless, but that won't be the case next weekend.

Marion Barber has fractured left thumb

Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said running back Marion Barber suffered a fractured left thumb against Kansas City in Week 5, but that Barber practiced without limitations during the bye week.

Pyro's take: Barber was already slated to lose some playing time to Tashard Choice and now-healthy Felix Jones. We'll see how the three-headed monster shakes out this Sunday against the Falcons.

Tashard Choice to see increase in carries

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said on Tuesday during his weekly radio show that running back Marion Barber will continue to start, but Tashard Choice will see an increase in carries going forward.

Pyro's take: Barber is not fully healthy yet, though he's getting there. Choice showed a significant amount more burst in his step last week than Barber, so getting him more involved is not a surprise. Fantasy football values in this backfield will be determined over the next couple weeks.

Barber active, Felix, inactive, Choice to be backup

Cowboys running back Marion Barber is active for the game against the Chiefs today and will make the start. Tashard Choice will be the backup as Felix Jones was declared inactive.

Pyro's take: This was pretty much the writing on the wall all week. Barber is a good RB2 fantasy football play this week, while Choice has some value as well and can be used as a flex for your team.

Choice likely to split carries with Barber active

Cowboys running back Marion Barber (quad) is active and will start the game today against the Broncos.

Pyro's take: Barber may be playing, but he'll still likely split carries with Tashard Choice. If you started either one on your fantasy football team, you should get good flex numbers on the day.

Choice to have significant role on Sunday

Despite the fact that Marion Barber will be playing Sunday, Cowboys running back Tashard Choice will have a larger role than normal in the game against the Broncos.

Pyro's take: Barber will start, but we expect to see an even split of the carries between Barber and Choice this Sunday. Either one could work as a low-end RB2 or flex player on your fantasy football team this weekend.

Choice moves into backup role for MNF

Cowboys running back Marion Barber has been declared inactive for tonight's game against the Panthers. Felix Jones will get the start in his place, with Tashard Choice acting as the backup.

Pyro's take: As much as Barber has been pleading to play all week, we didn't figure the Cowboys to be dumb enough to risk him furthering his thigh injury. Felix Jones should get the majority of the backfield workload with Choice relieving him from time to time.

Felix, Choice awaiting word on Barber's status

Cowboys running back Marion Barber (quad) will take limited reps in practice on Thursday afternoon after doing some light work at practice on Wednesday. Barber says that he at least wants to put himself in a position to play on Monday night.

Pyro's take: The Cowboys should be able to beat the Panthers without him, so why risk it? Our guess is that they'll platoon Felix Jones and Tashard Choice for the game and let Barber rest for one fantasy week. Check back later on Barber's status.

Choice could see an uptick in touches this week

If Cowboys running back Marion Barber (quad) is out for 1-2 weeks as reported, RB Tashard Choice could see a good amount of work beside Felix Jones for the next couple of weeks.

Pyro's take: It's possible Choice and Jones could get more touches anyway, as the Cowboys want to protect their workhorse Barber from further injury. As electric as Felix is, he could turn out to be a nice fantasy RB2 for this coming week, while Choice might be a pretty good flex play.

Cowboys' Choice's shoulder okay

Dallas Cowboys RB Tashard Choice was held out of practice Wednesday because he felt major pain in his shoulder. However, the MRI revealed no structural damage.

Pyro's take: This appears to be just a minor injury, and Choice should be back on the field within the next couple of days.

Tashard Choice to get more playing time

The Dallas Cowboys fourth-round pick from last year is slated to get more playing time this year, according to RB coach Skip Peete. "I think he's going to have the opportunity to play a lot this year."

Pyro's take: Choice excelled when he filled in for Barber and Jones last December, averaging 122 YPG in four games. ESPN.com's Matt Mosley has also been really impressed with Choice and thinks he will play three to four series per game. But he definitely won't come close to putting up numbers he did last year now that Barber and Jones will be in the lineup.

Cowboys running game to be based on packages

The Dallas Cowboys RB coach Skip Peete said that, while "we more than likely will have a true starter" the Cowboys running attack will be changed from series to series in a game. "It could be the start of the game and we say we want to do this, and if Felix or Marion don’t fit that, they might not be in there."

Pyro's take: Peete added later that, "Hopefully, they will all play equal, so they will all be fresh." This is where we think he's going with this and it's good news for Choice. He's the third back behind Jones and Barber but the Cowboys staff has really been impressed by him and we expect to see him take on a larger role this season.

Cowboys want to be top 10 in rushing

Dallas Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said on July 28th that he wants his team to be in the top-10 in the league in rushing this season. "We need to get in the top 10 in the running game," he said.

Pyro's take: The Cowboys finished 21st in rushing last year, but definitely have the firepower to compete with the best in the league. The three-headed monster of Marion Barber, Felix Jones and Tashard Choice will all feature prominently in the running game and their different styles will keep teams off-balance.
