He is among the fastest players in the NFL. He has been unofficially timed at 10.02 seconds in the 100-meter dash back when he was running track in school. He ran a 40-yard dash in 4.27 seconds. Yet speed isn't everything, especially in a heavy-hitting sport such as the NFL. Ginn Jr. reminds us of another WR from back in the day by the name of Willie Gault. Willie used to be able to outrun horses for a short stretch, and watching him fly down the sidelines on returns was truly a spectacle. But regardless of that heart-stopping speed, Willie ended up being merely mediocre as far as receivers go.
Ginn has only been in the league for two years, and showed some signs last season that he's not content to be mediocre as he improved his yards by 370 from his rookie season to 790 in '08. His game is still very raw, but he has a work ethic to continually improve. He has a learning disability which forces him to take two to three times longer to learn something than most others, but he works hard to keep up with everything around him as he graduated both middle and high school with honors. Because of that work ethic, we believe that he will continue to improve.
The main issue Ginn will struggle with for one more year is that Chad Pennington does not have the arm to take full advantage of his 4.27 40-yard dash speed. The 'Fins will continue to spread the ball around, incorporate the "wildcat", and pound the ball with Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown for one more year. Another Dolphin QB - named Chad Henne - has a cannon for an arm, but will more than likely hold a clipboard for one more year while he learns the offense while Pennington's plays out the final year of his contract.
Ginn started slow but put up 661 yards and two TDs over the last 10 games in '08. We can't quite put him in the sleeper bucket yet, as we are only projecting him to be a backup WR at this point. We expect similar yards, but if he can even double his TDs (to four), he could return you starter-worthy value on draft day. Make Ginn the 99th WR off the board this summer.
Ted Ginn Jr. was signed to a five-year, $19.6 million contract before the '07 season that also included a good $14 million guaranteed. Here's the breakdown:
2009 - $677,917
2010 - $1,035,833
2011 - $1,393,750
2012 - $1,801,667 (voidable year)
2013 - Free Agent
If there is anyone to handcuff to Ted Ginn, it would be Davone Bess. With Greg Camarillo coming off tears to his ACL and meniscus, it's not a guarantee that Bess won't actually be starting alongside Ginn, so if anything were to happen to Ginn, Bess would be your best bet to replace those WR numbers.

Ginn has played in all 16 games each of his first two seasons as a pro and doesn’t look to have any problems heading into this season.
Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said on Wednesday that wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. will have a chance to regain his starting WR job.
"Any one of these guys can get out of where they are by being consistent on the practice field... Consistency isn't one day, two days. I need to see it for a while," said Sparano.
Pyro's Take:
Ginn looked just fine as a return man last Sunday, so the team might want to think about keeping him there full-time. His hands aren't quite up to par for a WR, and probably never will be. Either way, the Wildcat offense takes away some of his fantasy football value regardless.
Dolphins wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. played just 16 offensive snaps after moving behind rookie receiver Brian Hartline on the depth chart, yet had two kickoff returns for touchdowns en route to his finest day as a professional.
Pyro's Take:
Both TDs came from over 100 yards which establishes a new NFL record. Ginn, however, loses a bunch of fantasy football value due to his demotion to non-starter, but he didn't have a whole hell of a lot in the first place.
When asked if wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. had lost his starting job or not, Dolphins coach Tony Sparano had this to say: "No. Well, we'll see where we are at the end of the week... I don't want to say 'Yes,' I don't want to say, 'No' right now."
Pyro's Take:
Sparano gave all five of his receivers time with the starting crew at practice to see which ones would come out on top. We'll let you know later in the week if Ginn can be used at all on your fantasy football team.
Dolphins wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. believes he is one of the best return men in the game and wants the job vacated by the injured Patrick Cobbs. "I still think I'm one of the greats in the business in doing it," said Ginn. "I just have to get an opportunity to."
Pyro's Take:
Ginn was one of the most exciting return guys back at Ohio State, but he hasn't been able to win the job at the NFL level. Miami may end up giving him the job, however, which would boost his fantasy football value a touch.
According to a report in the Sun-Sentinel, Ginn may be headed back to return duties as Patrick Cobbs and Davone Bess have been barely getting the job done.
Pyro's Take:
Ginn faces a banged up Bills' secondary, so assuming you aren't sitting on an extraordinary stack of talent in your fantasy football receiving corps, get this Buckeye putz in your lineup and hope for a biggity bomb today.
Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said on Thursday that neither the play-calling nor the plays themselves will be altered in the slightest with Chad Henne under center instead of Pennington.
Pyro's Take:
Henne's arm strength changes the plays all on it's own. Look for more chances being taken down field with Ted Ginn Jr. from here on out, which gives a nice boost to Ginn's fantasy football worth.
Williams told reporters that Henne has the arm and the will to go down field and that this should add an element of fun for the team and fans.
Pyro's Take:
Henne is the polar opposite of Chad Pennington. Ted Ginn stands to benefit the most from this QB change. While Pennington is on the mend, 2nd year guy Chad Henne will be doing everything he can to assert himself with this team.
The speedy and explosive WR for the Miami Dolphins will see his punt returns lessen as he becomes the No. 1 WR and focuses on the offense, according to beat writer Armando Salguero.
Pyro's Take:
Salguero says that Brian Hartline and Davone Bess are the favorites for the job and that coaches might not want to risk putting Ginn on punt returns. This lowers his value ever so slightly, but lowers his appeal ten-fold.
