player rankings 2014 preseason - quarterbacks

Quarterback Player Rankings – Pre-Season

Quarterbacks

Peyton Manning - Pyro Character

1.       Peyton Manning

(+) He's the best that's ever done it, proven over a long period of time, and 2013 was the icing on the cake

(+) Omaha must translate to “about to score some fantasy points”

(+) Manning is the most consistent fantasy QB to ever play the game and can adapt to any situation in front of him, his season averages are better than almost every other quarterback’s career years

(+) Peyton had at least one touchdown in every single game, and threw for three or more touchdowns 11 times

(+) No one has more MVP awards than Peyton – he's a master at the position

(+) Peyton Manning had a record breaking 2013, throwing for 5,477 yards, 55 TD (both NFL records), 10 INT, and a ridiculous 68.29% completion rate

(+) The twilight is here, the window is closing, Pyro thinks he’ll ride into the sunset playing at the highest level humanly possible

(+/-) How will Manning spread the ball around to all the weapons he has at his disposal

(-) Watching him run a QB sneak is one of the most hideous things in the history of football

(-) Peyton is 38 years old this season, and with a neck injury that caused him to miss an entire season; he is no longer the Iron Man he once was

(-) With Eric Decker gone to free agency Manning loses one of his top targets to throw to from his first 2 seasons in Denver

(-) Eric Decker had 87 receptions, 1,288 yards and 11 TD in 2013. Decker had 24 touchdowns for Manning over the past two seasons

(-) Manning is 38 years old. The doctors have cleared him to play in the 2014 season, but as his age rises, so does his injury risk.

(-) Knowshon Moreno left in free agency

(-) With Moreno gone, Montee Ball will be the main back, and the best blocking back on the team (behind him is Ronnie Hillman who struggles in protection)

Aaron Rodgers - Pyro Character

2.       Aaron Rodgers

(+) Solid team, gelled staff, lot’s of offensive talent for him and he’s in his prime... sounds perfect! The whole show is built around him

(+) His receivers seem to be interchangeable matchup nightmares and the emergence of Randall Cobb and Jarret Boykin made James Jones expendable

(+) Has thrown for over 4,000 yards in four of his six seasons as a starter

(+) Aaron Rodgers has the LOWEST Career Interception Percentage in history at 1.76% (2nd: Tom Brady - 2.03%; 3rd: Neil O'Donnell - 2.11%)  OTHER NOTABLES:  Joe Montana (15th); Peyton Manning (19th); Drew Brees (20th); Dan Marino (40th); John Elway (47th); Roger Staubach (89th); Bart Starr (119th); Johnny Unitas (131st); Terry Bradshaw (149th); Joe Namath (157th)

(+) Rodgers also has the highest Passer Rating of all-time at 104.9 (2nd: Peyton Manning - 97.2; 3rd: Steve Young - 96.8; 4th: Philip Rivers - 96.0; 5th: Tony Romo – 95.8; 6th: Tom Brady - 95.7; 7th: Drew Brees - 95.3; 8th: Kurt Warner - 93.7; 9th: Ben Roethlisberger - 92.6; 10th: Joe Montana - 92.3)

(+) Green Bay has a nice schedule in the fantasy football playoffs of (Weeks 14, 15 & 16)

(+) As a starter, prior to last season, Rodgers finished second (2008), first (2009), first (2010), second (2011), and second (2012) in fantasy points

(-) The emergence of Eddie Lacy gave the Packers a running game and a balanced offense, which will continue in 2014 (we like Jonathan Franklin too)

(-) Can hold onto the ball too long, thus leaving himself more susceptible to injury

(-) Other players seem to want to crush this guy - maybe it’s the Discount Double Check, but he definitely has a target on his back during games

(-) The Packer’s defense did not get any better this year, in fact they got worse, and they were in the top ten for yards allowed per game (372.2 ypg)

(-) 2013 Rodgers was sidelined 7 games due to a broken collarbone suffered in Week 9

(-) This prick is dating my favorite hottie celebrity in Olivia Munn. She should be mine (d-Rx), not this guy’s - I thought I heard he had a boyfriend a few months ago, not that there is anything wrong with that, but go back to him Aaron

(-) Suffered two concussions in 2010, and likes to run more than a pocket-passer of his caliber should (suffered a shoulder injury against the Bears that cost him seven games in 2013)

Drew Brees - Pyro Character

3.       Drew Brees

(+) The Saints defense was much improved last season, which allowed Brees to not force as many throws and cut down his interceptions to 12 from 19 the previous year

(+) Sean Payton and Brees have an amazing chemistry between them, which translates into fantasy points

(+) Brees hasn’t had a weapon at receiver like Brandin Cooks —> EVER!

(+) Drew Brees has the best TE in the game to throw to in Jimmy Graham (hopefully he doesn’t hold out)

(+) Brees hasn’t finished outside the top-10 in fantasy points since 2003 or outside the top-5 since 2006

(+) Brees has thrown for 4,388 yards or more in each of the past seven seasons

(+) #9 has thrown for over 5,000 yards each of the last three seasons (most 5K season in NFL history)

(-) Brees provides no value with his legs, accumulating only 52 rushing yards last season, and 140 rushing yards the last four seasons

(-) Drew threw 39 touchdowns; he had thrown 89 over the previous two seasons

(-) The Saints lost a major offensive weapon in Darren Sproles to free agency

(-) Sproles recorded 71 receptions for 604 yards receiving, and there is no RB on the roster to replace that production

(-) The Saints are still looking for a consistent running back to compliment Drew Brees

Nick Foles - Pyro Character

4.       Nick Foles

(+) LeSean McCoy is a dynamic player that helps take the pressure off of Nick Foles

(+) Took the fantasy world by storm last year, appears this youngsters upside is enormous

(+) It’s a good time to be the facilitator in Chip Kelly’s offense

(+) Scored over 20 fantasy points in 5 games last year…

(+) Look at those statistics for a young fella, not starting the season as the man, with Mike Vick there - he seems legit!

(+) Zach Ertz is about to become a known entity (B.Celek ain’t no slouch himself)

(+) Tied an NFL record with 7 touchdowns in 1 game (against the Raiders last season)

(+) Jordan Matthews from Vanderbilt is a total stud, he’ll give Riley KKKooper a run for his money on plays this season

(+) Josh Huff and Darren Sproles give Nick amazing tertiary targets on every play

(+) Even though he is not the most fleet of foot guy, he ran for 225 yards and scored 3 touchdowns in 13 games played last year

(+) Jeremy Maclin is 1 year+ removed from his preseason ACL injury, a former first round pick - don’t let the door hit your ass on the way out DeSean

(+) The kid from Arizona had  27 to interceptions ratio last year in his second season in the NFL (3rd rounder from 2012) - which is out of hand!

(-) Uh-oh, he has the 8th hardest schedule for #FF next year for QBs

(-) No one knows what the lose of DeSean Jackson and his deep speed will do to hinder the Eagles offense

(-) New faces at WR this year

(-) It’s not easy to be awesome from year to year, of all players in the top 10 at the position, he could shit the bed in his first season being the man from day 1

(-) You never know if he’s elite like people seem sure of - or if he’ll play down to his 3rd round status this outing - no guarantees with this pick

(-) If Maclin gets hurt again, this thing may crumble, can #18 fill the DeSean role as they are touting?

Matthew Stafford - Pyro Character

5.       Matthew Stafford

(+) The Lions have the 6th easiest Strength Of Schedule (SOS) in 2014

(+) He throws the ball to an extra-terrestrial in Megatron

(+) In terms of overall tools in the passing game, Stafford is as talented as it gets

(+) Out of nowhere the Lions selected Eric Ebron with the 10th pick in the 2014 NFL draft

(+) In 2013 Stafford threw for over 300 yards six times, and recorded 29 TD’s

(+) With the best spiral in the game, beautiful touch comes effortless to Stafford

(+) The Lions have added Golden Tate, which will give Stafford a nice weapon opposite Calvin Johnson

(+) Stafford averaged 18.9 points per game through the first 13 games last season

(+) Had five games with three or more touchdowns

(+) Only held without a touchdown in two games

(+) Megatron, Bush, Ebron, Pettigrew, Tate and Joique Bell give Stafford some serious playmakers to work with (his most talented teammates yet)

(+) Stafford played all 16 games the past three seasons, making him a durable quarterback

(+) His offensive line improved in 2013 surrendering only 23 sacks

(-) The first overall pick of the 2009 still has a tendency to play gunslinger, which can lead to poor throws and/or bad decisions, as evidenced by his 19 interceptions last season

(-) Stafford saw his interceptions rise from 17 in 2012, to 19 in 2013

Andrew Luck - Pyro Character

6.       Andrew Luck

(+) Return of a healthy Reggie Wayne and addition of Hakeem Knicks build for a formidable receiving corps

(+) Threw for 774 & 6 TDs in two playoff games last season (ended on a high note!)

(-) He didn’t have a single game of under 10 fantasy points in 2013

(+) Finished 6th in fantasy points in just his second season, this kid is really good!

(+) Increased his completing % by 6.2 % points up to 60.3 in his second season

(+) Cut his interception rate by half from his rookie to second season

(+) averaged an insane 6.0 yards per carry while scoring 4 TDs on the ground

(+/-) So far he’s living up to the Manning replacement role, year 3 is important in his progression - we feel confident as hell he’s elite

(-) Threw for under 200 yards 4 times last year

(-) His passing yards decreased from 4,374 under Bruce Arians to last seasons 3,830 in his first campaign with Pep Hamilton

(-) The Colts are supposed to be more committed to the run next season with a fully healthy Ahmad Bradshaw and Vick Ballard and a full season of Trent Richardson

Robert Griffin III - Pyro Character

7.       Robert Griffin III

(+) RGIII is a total freak athlete and could probably run in the Olympics if not for his passion for football

(+) One of the best deep-ball throwers in the NFL game with the right receivers to actually catch them

(+) Already the bona fide leader of the team and is continually making his presence felt around Redskins facilities, and got himself a new coach

(+) RGIII scored over 100 fantasy points in his first 4 games in the NFL

(+) Washington is tied with the Patriots for the 8th easiest SOS for QBs, which helps big time!

(+) Mike Shanahan is gone! Jay Gruden and Dan Snyder are all in with RGIII

(+) Pierre Garcon had five games in 2013 where he had over 100 yards receiving, and totaled 1,346 receiving yards - superior wideout weapon!

(+) Washington was able to add playmaking receiver DeSean Jackson to mix after being cut by the Eagles

(+) A healthy Jordan Reed adds a major threat in the middle of the field, a guy that will be considered one of the best TEs in the league by November

(+) RGIII will be 100% healthy this season, and looking to run again (hopefully in a smarter manner, taking cues from Russell Wilson)

(-) Quarterbacks that can/will use their legs are always more liable to injury than their pocket-passing counterparts and RGIII isn’t the big body of Cam Newton

(-) RGIII will face the NFC West and their tough defenses this season

(-) In 2013 RG3 had 16 TD and 12 INT, earning him the rank of 28th worst TD to Interception ratio among all quarterbacks last year.

(-) In 2013 Griffin had 489 total rushing yards (down from 815 in 2012), 0 TD’s (compared to 7 in 2012) and averaged 5.69 yards per carry (down from 6.79 in 2012)

(-) The scrutiny this player gets is unfair but a fact of reality, he has all eyes on him, a tough situation for a highly drafted young man

Matt Ryan - Pyro Character

8.       Matt Ryan

(+) The fact Ryan posted 4,515 yards with 26 touchdowns amongst all the injuries showed his value

(+) We love Julio, he’s the best weapon in the NFL at the WR position after Calvin Johnson, who is older than #11

(+) Even without Tony G - Julio Jones, Roddy White, Harry Douglas and Steven Jackson give Atlanta a fearful offense to opposing defenses

(+) Ryan has ridiculous size to throw to in Julio Jones – 6’3”, and a big bodied Roddy White – 6’0” - two of the best at their position

(+) The offensive system will be much more explosive with a healthy Steven Jackson in the backfield

(+) Matt Ryan had seven games in 2013 where he threw for over 300 yards.

(+) Ryan threw 26 touchdowns last season, which was even more remarkable with all the Falcons injuries

(+) A healthy Julio Jones, Roddy White and Steven Jackson

(+) Has a 68.0% completion rate over the past two seasons

(+) Besides missing two games with turf toe back in 2009, Ryan has been healthy throughout his career and does not seem prone to injury

(+) The Falcons have done well to put the right players around their franchise QB

(-) The Falcons offensive line struggled last year letting Matt Ryan be sacked 44 times

(-) Matt Ryan is not a mobile QB, so don’t expect many rushing yards or TDs

(-) Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzalez is retired

Colin Kaepernick - Pyro Character

9.       Colin Kaepernick

(+) Colin might be the most gifted athlete the NFL QB has ever had (Newton and Luck in the discussion)

(+) His coach Jim Harbaugh should be more than willing to let Kaepernick run early and often in 2014

(+) At 6’5” 233 pounds Kaepernick has the size to withstand blows both inside and outside the pocket

(+) Kaepernick did not have a healthy Michael Crabtree in 2013, then crushed it when he returned…

(+) In the five games that Crabtree did play, Kaepernick averaged 19 fantasy points per game, and 22 points per game over his final three games

(+) Kaepernick has a career 1.7% interception rate, showing he can take care of the ball better than his gunslinger mentality might portray

(+) He is more experienced now heading into his second full season as the starter

(+) #7 was working out 4 days after they lost against the Seahawks in the NFL Championship game, he’s a leader and work-a-holic

(+) Has led the 49ers to 2 NFC Championship games and a Super Bowl appearance over the past two seasons (his only ones as a full-time starter)

(-) Running quarterbacks are hit more frequently than their pocket passing counterparts, if Harbaugh puts the silencer on him, his value really decreases

(-) In 2013 Kaepernick only had two games where he threw for over 300 yards

(-) Kaep had nine games where he threw for less than 200 yards, including a season low of 91 yards against the Carolina Panthers in Week 10

Tom Brady - Pyro Character

10.     Tom Brady

(+) Brady throws one of the best long-balls in the game

(+) Brady had six games in 2013 with over 300 yards passing (two of these games went for over 400 yards)

(+) With all the issues at receiver Brady still threw 25 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions in 2013

(+) The addition Of Darrelle Revis softens the blow of losing Aqib Talib to the Broncos, and shores up the Pats secondary

(+) Has one of the best tight ends in the game when healthy in Rob Gronkowski - if Gronk is fully healthy in the preseason MOVE #12 UP into the second tier of quarterbacks!

(+) Since his knee surgery, Brady has played in 16 games each of the past 5 seasons

(+) New England has been a pass-heavy team the past seven years and Bill Belichick loves to run up the score

(+) Tom rarely throws interceptions, as evidenced by his career 2.16% INT Percentage (third-best ever)

(+) The growth of Aaron Dobson, Kenbrell Thompkins and Josh Boyce should help Brady

(-) Tom finished as the 15th ranked QB in 2013 for fantasy points scored, yikes!

(-) Tom will be 37 years old when the season starts – basically, he's not getting any younger

(-) The wide receiver corps still has a ton of question marks

Jay Cutler - Pyro Character

11.     Jay Cutler

(+) Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery make the best one-two punch in the NFL at the wideout position

(+) Marc Trestman is the horse whisperer for quarterbacks - in their second year together has the makings of something spectacular

(+) Pyro has never had Jay Cutler ranked this high in our preseason rankings, we anticipate baring injury that he has his best season as a pro - at least fantasy-wise

(+) Matt Forte was jipped of an All-Pro season in 2013, add the Black Unicorn to the mix and you have an unmatched arsenal of weapons for Jay

(+) When using sound mechanics #6 has one of the best arms in the game (the guy can make any throw)

(+) Marquess Wilson spent his offseason working out with Marshall & Jeffery, a really good sign for Bears fans

(+) The Chicago Bears have the 3rd easiest schedule for quarterbacks this year - THIS IS HUGE FOR JAY, because he plays better against lesser teams

(+/-) The Bears locked up Jay with a 3-year $54 million dollar deal with year-to-year options for up to 7 years, so Smoking Jay has job security that hasn’t really been there the past 2 season

(-) In what was a make or break year for Jay, he really sucked pretty bad - and his replacement Josh McCown was totally awesome - how many chances does this player get? Vince Young and Matt Leinart both drafted ahead of Jay - are no longer in the NFL

(-) Jay hasn’t played 16 games in a season since 2009, his first season with Chicago

(-) Mr. Cavallari can be a smug prick on the sidelines and has proven not to be a natural born leader

(-) When things go sideways for Jay his Chicago fans turn fast on him, there is a capability to have the relationship go pretty far south fast… so let’s hope this guy starts strong in ’14

Russell Wilson - Pyro Character

12.     Russell Wilson

(+) Hard to discount the upside of a Super Bowl Champion in his sophomore year at the hardest position in all of sports

(+) He’s thrown only 19 career interceptions in 32 regular season games

(+) Percy is fully healthy (in theory)

(+) Paul Richardson (2nd round) and Kevin Norwood (4th round) were great WR draft picks for Russell and the SEA offense

(+/-) Is smart enough to divorce his wife before his rookie contract expires

(+) Very consistent player thru 2 seasons, and finished last season at 8th for QBs at scoring fantasy points

(+) Doug Baldwin and Jermaine Kearse are under-rated wideouts (man, add the new rookies to Percy and these guys have too many WRs like the Niners)

(-) The Seahawks are still a run orientated offense

(-) Super Bowl hangover candidate, remember Joe Flacco last year?

(-) The 12th man is annoying for everyone except those that live in Washington or Texas

Cam Newton - Pyro Character

13.     Cam Newton

(+) His numbers were down almost across the board last season but he still scored over 20 fantasy points a game and finished 4th among quarterbacks

(+) Newton at 6’5” 250 pounds can withstand the hits of an NFL regular season

(+) Newton led the Panthers to a 12-4 record in 2013, and a NFC South title

(+) …yet says he hasn't reached his ceiling yet and will only be getting better

(+) Newton proved that he could be the leader, and the face of a franchise in 2013

(+) Cam improved his completion percentage by four full points, to a career high 61.7% in 2013

(+) Newton was +11 in touchdown passes to interceptions thrown; his previous high was +7 touchdowns

(+) Has a career interception rate of 2.8%

(-) Cam has taken 36, 35 and a career high 43 sacks in 2013, these hits will catch up to him

(-) Cam only had one game in 2013 where he threw for more than 300 yards

(-) His rushing touchdowns dropped from eight in 2012, to a career low six in 2013

(-) Newton’s yards per carry dropped from 5.83 to 5.27 in 2013

(-) Newton was sacked 43 times last season, earning the spot of 5th most sacked quarterback

(-) Where oh where have my wide receivers gone?

Ryan Tannehill - Pyro Character

14.     Ryan Tannehill

(+) According to our 2014 Pyro Strength of Schedule the Miami Dolphins have the easiest passing schedule for QBs (last year it was Denver- cha-ching!)

(+) He ended last season the 16th ranked QB in his second season, just one behind Tom Brady, and has a year longer with Mike Wallace (who thinks he should have scored 25 TDs last season)

(+) We could see him running more this year, he’s a special athlete

(+) Hasn’t missed a game in his 2 years in the NFL, tough kid

(+) Tannehill is married to a hottie that is dumb enough to leave an automatic rifle in the back seat of a rental car when she returned it - we like a little bit of crazy

(+) They added a solid rookie WR in Jarvis Landry in the 2nd round, but equally as important is they drafted offensive line help with their first round pick (19th overall) with Ja’Wuan James and also in the 3rd round (67th overall) in Billy Turner...

(+) Knowshon Moreno is now a Dolphin, and he’s the best at protecting the QB there is in the game at RB, they need to cut down the sacks this year, so Moreno will get plenty of opportunities to protect Ryan on passing plays

(+) #17 had five 300-yard games last season, a figure he will definitely build upon in 2014

(+) Ryan has an easy schedule in your fantasy playoffs as well - this is a player that has the perfect schedule this year to do well for your fantasy football team

(-) While the upside is certainly there, the team was a mess last year - the Dolphins have the worst locker room in the league, who’s to say this isn’t an ongoing problem

(-) Just make sure not to overdraft this player, we like him plenty, but he comes with some unknowns as well (boom or bust type) so don’t go to early on him, his value comes when he is picked lower than his ADP

Philip Rivers - Pyro Character

15.     Philip Rivers

(+) The Chargers have a stable of running backs that can all run and catch the ball out of the backfield for #17

(+) Finished 4th in fantasy points by QBs last year… that’s amazing! Eli Manning finished 21st.

(+) 3 400-yard games passing in 2013 (5 300+ yard games)

(+) He had SIX 3+ TD games last year

(+) Set a career year in passing yards with 4,478 last year - welcome back!

(+) Had a 3/1 TD to interception ratio last season

(+) Phil had a bounce back season last year in a big way, proving he is not over the hill

(+) Mike McCoy is an offense centric coach that’s great with QBs and that bodes well for River’s fantasy points

(-) Loses Ken Wisenhunt (to the Titans) who accentuated the short passing game which helped #17 complete 69.5% of his passes last year

(-) Plays better against the less talented defenses

(-) He has one of the worst defenses in football, so every game is a potential shootout

(-) 84 yards rushing on the season is his career high, and that was in 2008 (72 in 2013) - Don Rickles runs better than Philip Rivers

Tony Romo - Pyro Character

16.     Tony Romo

(+) If DeMarco Murray can stay healthy all season Romo will finally have a legit running game to open things up for the passing game

(+) Dez Bryant is one of the best young weapons in the NFL, he has some temper issues but he did record over 1,000 receiving yards and 13 touchdowns

(+) Romo had great numbers in the 2013 season, with 31 touchdowns and only 10 interceptions

(+) Emerging receiver Terrance Williams should help balance the passing game in 2014

(+) Believe it or not, Romo actually has the fifth-best career Passer Rating in the history of the NFL

(+) Plays on one of the biggest stages in American sports

(+/-) Tony Romo is a punchline for no reason, he’s either going to silence his critics this year or give them more fodder

(-) He’s had too many back surgeries for a 30+ player for our liking

(-) The Cowboys have the most difficult schedule against QBs based on our SOS

(-) He could be a bit injury prone as he’s missed 14 games and was knocked out of two others early over the past six seasons

(-) How many times can we give this offense the benefit of the doubt? We don't blame Romo, but it hasn't seemed to really click on all cylinders in his time there

(-) Tied for the league lead in interceptions in 2012 and can be counted on for double digit INTs every season, #9 had 10 in 2013

(-) Left the 2013 season early with a season ending back injury, seems to get shut down at the end of the year often

(-) Romo has one of the most difficult schedules in the NFL: Home games against San Francisco, Arizona, Indianapolis, New Orleans and Philadelphia, who all won at least 10 games last season

(-) Has to travel to London to play against the Jaguars

Ben Roethlisberger - Pyro Character

17.     Ben Roethlisberger

(+) Big Ben had 4,261 passing yards in 2013 (has put up three 4k seasons in the last 5 years)

(+) Big Ben will have a receiving corp that surprises this season, he has some dynamic weapons

(+) #7 had two 400-yard games last season

(+) Houdini loves rookies Martavis Bryant and Dri Archer as added weapons for Roethlisberger

(+) Both him and Heath Miller are healthy, which should help fantasy-wise for Ben AccostThisFurBurger

(+) Finished 10th in fantasy points for standard leagues last year… recently a TOP 10 player with multiple championships (not as recent) is a steady QB that you can get after the 9th round in most drafts

(+) Le’Veon Bell can catch, and should be a great workhorse back to help ease the burden for Ben (they have LeGarrett Blount as well)

(-) Hard schedule for Ben in the regular season, they have the 27th hardest schedule during your fantasy season, which is bad news for anything positive we mention above

(-) Can Antonio Brown actually have a better season and make those unfathomable plays again, I’m finding it hard to believe he’ll match 2013

(-) Is 2014 a 16 game season or the semi-regular 13 game season for the Miami of Ohio QB… when it’s the later, it’s a real bad time

(-) The type of guy for which the hashtag #YesAllWomen was spawned

Carson Palmer - Pyro Character

18.     Carson Palmer

(+) In Larry Fitzgerald & Michael Floyd, Carson has a top 5 one-two punch WR crew catching his passes

(+) Carson Palmer is a ‘fuck it, I’m gonna just chuck it’ type of QB, which some weeks turns into fantasy football gold!

(+) Andre Ellington is bound to bust a few long touchdowns catching passes out of the backfield - points for Carson

(+) 4,274 yards last season, are his career high - not bad for his first of the Arizona Cardinals

(+) Bruce Arians = fantasy football points for his starting quarterbacks and there is no challenger at the position in 2014 for Carson

(-) If you get penalized for interceptions (pick-sixes especially) move him down at least 5 guys

(-) Carson has only gone over 30 TDs in a season once in his career - and that was in 2005

(-) Palmer makes some (horrific) throws that just don’t seem possible for an NFL QB

sam bradford pyro character

19.     Sam Bradford

(+) This is a team that seems primed to have a well rounded offense after 3 years of heavily drafting guys on that side of the ball

(+) Before going down (again) to injury, Sam was a top 10 fantasy performer at the QB position in 2013

(+) They added the best offensive lineman in this May’s draft to an already stout group of pass protectors

(+) If Zach Stacey can be even close to where he finished last year, Bradford will be better off

(+/-) Tavon Austin needs to become worth his 8th overall pick in 2013

(-) This guy is either brittle or unlucky… he’s something - and if he can’t stay healthy this season, it will be time for the Rams to write him off

(-) Jeff Fisher isn’t known to spearhead the most dynamic of offenses… hopefully they open things up

(-) Only has six 300-yard passing games in 37 games after being chosen first overall in the 2011 NFL Draft

(-) Thus far the most overpaid player in the history of the league, harsh maybe - but very true

(-) Could have had RGIII and Johnny Manziel - much more exciting guys for the small town crowd base to rally around - will Sam become the worst thing that ever happened to St. Louis football?

Andy Dalton - Pyro Character

20.     Andy Dalton

(+) Hard to believe Andy finished 5th (standard scoring) at the QB position in 2013 - but he did just that

(+) 4,293 yards and 33 TDs is top end starting #FF QB material…

(+) Andre Hawkins gives them a different type of slot weapon then they have had in prior years (I guess Jordan Shipley didn’t cut it)

(+) Tyler Eifert was a high first round pick, should be much better in his sophomore season

(+) He may suck in the playoffs, but unless you are in some crazy Houdini-like league, that doesn’t matter for your fantasy squad

(+) Throwing to A.J. Green as your wide receiver on is like having John Bonham as the drummer in your band

(+) The Bengals added a bigger RB in Jeremy Hill, which should give the needed “thunder” to Giovani Bernard’s “lightening” which will help keep defenses honest upfront

(+) The Red Rifle had a 300+ / 5TD game against the Jets last year (6 games with 3 or more touchdowns)

(+) He’ll slip in drafts I bet… just don’t be the owner that over drafts him

(+/-) Andy Dalton is in a make it or break it type of season, he may just answer the call!

(-) Cincinnati has a tougher schedule against the pass this season than they did last year

(-) Can anyone step up and be the guy opposite AJ? Is Marvin Jones gonna build on his 2013 campaign, or fall off the map?

Eli Manning - Pyro Character

21.     Eli Manning

(+) Two years removed from a season where he threw for 4,933 yards and scored 280.8 fantasy points

(+) The GMEN added Odell Beckham Jr. in the first round to give Eli a speedster for the first time in ages

(+) Giants have an easy Strength of Schedule this season (4th easiest)

(+) Eli may be a nice guy, but he’s competitive – he wants to have a bounce back season, and I am certain he is working hard towards that end

(-) Scoring 170.3 fantasy points, made 2013 the worst fantasy season for Eli since becoming a full time starter in his second season

(-) Threw 27 interceptions to only 18 touchdowns

(-) Failed to throw a touchdown in three games, and only threw for one touchdown in 10 games

(-) Threw 18 interceptions in just five games, with at least three in each

Joe Flacco - Pyro Character

22.     Joe Flacco

(+) With a lack of depth at the receiving position, Flacco still had six multiple touchdown games in 2013

(+) Joe has been consistent with his fantasy production, scoring between 270-299 fantasy points a year since 2009 (290.7 in 2013)

(+) Ray Rice will be suspended for a short period of time to start the season, meaning the team will rely on Flacco’s arm to start the season

(+) The addition of Steve Smith and a healthy Dennis Pitta helps his cause

(-) The Ravens have the second hardest pass schedule this season

(-) Had seven games with two or more interceptions

(-) Threw for one touchdown six times, and no touchdowns four times

(-) Threw for 250 yards or less nine times

(-) After winning the Super Bowl MVP, this guy is way overpaid

e.j. manuel pyro character

23.     E.J. Manuel

(+) Scored 20 or more fantasy points in five of ten games played as a rookie

(+) Threw a touchdown pass in eight of ten games

(+) The additions of Sammy Watkins and Mike Williams give E.J. a full complement of weapons

(+) The development of Robert Woods and Marquise Goodwin will aid Manuel’s growth as well

(+) Both Fred Jackson and C.J. Spiller are active in the receiving game with 80 receptions between them last season

(+) E.J. also possesses the ability to run the ball, and had two scores in his last three games played as a rookie

(-) Threw for under 200 yards in six of ten games as a rookie

(-) Threw one touchdown in five games, and zero touchdowns twice

(-) Was inconsistent with his completion percentage as a rookie: two games under 50%, four games under 60% and two games over 70%

alex smith pyro character

24.     Alex Smith

(+) Had his finest season as a professional scoring 253.7 fantasy points

(+) Throwing for 23 touchdowns marked the first time in his career he threw for more than 20

(+) Showed that he is a threat on the ground with 432 rushing yards last season, with one touchdown

(+) Only threw a touchdown in nine games, but averaged 2.56 scores per game, with at least two in each of them

(+) The return of Travis Kelce will give Smith a true weapon at tight end

(-) Alex still likes the checkdown, as evidenced his 6.5 yards per pass attempt in 2013

(-) Did not have a 300-yard passing game last season

(-) Five games in which he threw for less than 200 yards, and five more under 250 yards

(-) Had six games without throwing a touchdown

jack locker pyro character

25.     Jake Locker

(+) Playing for a contract extension and his last chance to prove he can be a starter

(+) Showed signs of development last season with a career high 60.7% completion rate

(+) Kendall Wright’s emergence and the growth of Justin Hunter give Locker two good weapons

(+) Ken Wisenhunt is a great fantasy football coach, especially in the passing game

(+) With Chris johnson gone, this team will rely less on their rushing attack

(-) Whenever things start heading in he right direction for Locker, he gets banged up

(-) Has yet to play a whole season

(-) Only six career multi-touchdown games

(-) Is inconsistent; scored 59 total fantasy points in two games, but 9.6 over two others

(-) Threw for under 200 yards in four of seven games, and under 150 yards in three games

Ryan Fitzpatrick Pyro Character

26.     Ryan Fitzpatrick

(+) After being a backup last season, Fitzpatrick is the starter for the Texans

(+) Andre Johnson and DeAndre Hopkins gives Fitz nice targets at receiver

(+) A bounce back year from Arian Foster will help to take the pressure off

(+) Grows a better beard than any other QB in the league

(+) He's #1 at the Wonderlic test

(+/-) No one seems to want to keep Mr. Harvard around for too long

(-) He has never had a season with 4,000 yards passing

(-) Never thrown for more than 24 touchdowns in a season

(-) Has thrown 51 interceptions over the last three seasons

Johnny Manziel Pyro Character

27.     Johnny Manziel

(+) Should become the starter by midseason for the Browns

(+) His ability to run makes him a better option to score fantasy points

(+) There hasn’t been this much excitement in Cleveland since Bernie Kosar running the show

(+/-) The kid is living the life now, but he hasn’t done shite at the NFL level

(-) Josh Gordon can’t put the pipe down, so last year’s breakout star at WR is going to miss a lot of games, potentially the whole season

(-) There is a really long list of QBs that were awesome in college and stunk it up when running the Browns huddle

(-) If he tries to be Johnny Football in the NFL he’s going to end up more like Mangled Manziel

(-) He will need to adjust to the speed of the NFL

(-) The team is already getting annoyed with the 21 year-old's partying habits on weekends

Josh McCown Pyro Character

28.     Josh McCown

(+) In eight games played (two of which were spot duty) he threw 13 touchdowns to only one interception

(+) Threw for two or more touchdowns in four of the six games as the starter

(+) Over a three week span threw for over 348 yards in each game (1,055 total) with eight touchdowns

(+) Joining Lovie Smith in Tampa is familiar ground from his time spent in Chicago

(+) He will have two big targets on the outside in Vincent Jackson and rookie Mike Evans

(-) Has only been a full-time starter once in his 11-year career

(-) The Buccaneers offense is the Chicago Bears offense (never thought I would write that)

(-) Lovie’s name should be changed to Hatie for fantasy owners

Matt Schaub Pyro Character

29.     Matt Schaub

(+) Will enter the season as the starter for the Raiders

(+) Started last season with 1,193 yards with eight touchdowns in his first four weeks

(+) Has something to prove after everything fell apart last year in Houston

(-) His confidence has to be rattled after his 2013 performance

(-) Over his last six games averaged 186 yards passing per game, with only one game over 200 yards

(-) Hard to tell what kind of team the Raiders will be on offense with all the new pieces added this offseason

(-) Had 4 weeks in a row with pick-sixes, an NFL record

(-) Over his last six games threw two touchdowns and eight interceptions

(-) With the Raiders he will not have the same quality of weapons that he had in Houston

Geno Smith - Pyro Character

30.     Geno Smith

(+) Vick has almost already conceded the job to the second year player publically

(+) Eric Decker on the outside is heads and shoulders more talented than any receiver on last seasons roster

(+) Jace Amaro had one of the best college football seasons ever for a tight end last year

(+) Proved to be a durable quarterback and started all 16 games last year

(+) Used his athletic ability as a runner more so than he ever did in college

(+) A solid corps of running backs behind him should keep defenses stacked in the box and Smith room to work on the outside

(+) Smith was one of the best quarterbacks during the fantasy playoffs last year, averaging just over 20 points a game

(-) He is unlikely to replicate six touchdowns on the ground like he did last season

(-) A negative touchdown to interception ratio is never a good thing and Smith was minus 9 last season

(-) New York is still a ground based attack and will continue to be as long as Rex Ryan is at the helm

Teddy Bridgewater Pyro Character

31.     Teddy Bridgewater

(+) Will have a chance to compete for the starting job, and should get a chance regardless before the end of the season

(+) Has the benefit of having All Day in the backfield to relieve some pressure

(+) Cordarrelle Patterson is a game-breaker who will provide Teddy with the pop needed in the passing game

(+) Norv Turner should help his progression

(+) He’s gotta be ahead of Christian Ponder on the depth chart already

(-) As a rookie, he is going to have to earn a starting spot this season

(-) Will be inconsistent as he adjusts to the NFL

(-) The Vikings will lean on the running game to take the pressure off of Bridgewater

Brian Hoyer Pyro Character

32.     Brian Hoyer

(+) Hoyer looks locked into being the starter in Cleveland for the immediate future unless something drastic happens soon

(+) Hoyer hasn’t been caught rolling twenties in any public bathrooms recently

(+) In the two full games he played last season he put up an impressive 19 fantasy points a game

(+) In weeks 3&4 of last season Hoyer and Cameron got along beautifully, Cameron caught 16 passes for 157 yards and 4 touchdowns

(+) If Josh Gordon plays Hoyer gets one of the best receivers on the outside to help him out, they also have a great rapport as Flash caught 14 passes for 217 yards and a touchdown between weeks 3 and 4

(+) The running game should be much improved in Cleveland this seasons with the addition of veteran Ben Tate and rookie Terrance West

(-) If Hoyer struggles out of the gate FANS will be clamoring for Manziel

(-) Josh Gordon is currently facing a season long suspension and with the rest of the receiving corps devoid of proven production this is a huge deal

(-) Manziel is one of the most well liked players in the country and if the Browns struggle to win he could usurp Hoyer even if he is playing well for reasons outside of football

(-) Hoyer isn’t exactly a proven commodity having started just 4 games in his 5 year career

Blake Bortles Pyro Character

33.     Blake Bortles

(+) The Jaguars added a lot of help for Bortles in the draft with Marquise Lee and Allen Robinson

(+) Hard to imagine this monster not being the week 1 starter for this team, why wouldn’t they let these rookies grow together

(+) He may have the hottest girlfriend in the league

(+) Good kid, that should turn into a fine NFL quarterback

(+) Has a lot of size and the ability to stand in the pocket to make the play

(-) Toby Gerhart is the RB1 for the Jags, not exactly the greatest situation for a rookie QB

(-) Prospects would look a lot better if Justin Blackmon was actively with the team

(-) The Jaguars offense is a work in progress, which means a lot of ups and downs

Chad Henne - Pyro Character

34.     Chad Henne

(+) Henne is not Blaine Gabbert, who had a tumultuous few seasons in Jacksonville

(+) Rebounded from his porous 2012 season to boast a percentage above 60%

(+) Set a career best with 503 passing attempts last season

(+) Toby Gerhart should provide a boost to the running game and keep defenses honest

(+) Scored over 13.8 points in each of the last 5 games of the season

(-) Really just a placeholder until the team feels Blake Bortles is ready

(-) Lacks upside and had averaged just over 11 fantasy points a game in his career

(-) His entire receiving corps is fairly inexperienced outside of Cecil Shorts

(-) Threw more interceptions than touchdowns last season

Matt Cassel - Pyro Character

35.     Matt Cassel

(+) The guy have averaged over 15 fantasy points a game twice in his career

(+) Minnesota should have one of the most well balanced offenses in the league next season under Norv Turner who loves to throw is just as much as he does run it

(+) Adrian Peterson provides for loaded fronts and great play fakes no matter the situation

(+) Had a positive touchdown to interception ratio and looked like the most competent guy during last seasons extravaganza

(+) Cordarelle Patterson should have a breakout season after looking like one of the most athletically gifted players in all of the NFL toward the end of last season

(+) Tight End Kyle Rudolph is one of the bet red zone targets in the NFL and Cassel rarely had him at his disposal last season

(-) Teddy “the future” Bridgewater is already nipping at his heels and taking first team reps in training camp

(-) Inconsistency has plagued this guy big time over the last few seasons

(-) Bridgewater looks to be the real deal and the Vikings seem committed to at least getting him a few starts this season

(-) The Vikings will play their home games outside at the TCF Bank Stadium (University of Minnesota) rather than indoors in the Metrodome as they wait for their new Stadium to be completed

Michael Vick Pyro Character

36.     Michael Vick

(+) Has a chance to win the starting job with the Jets

(+) Vick is always a threat to run with the ball

(+) Has rushed for 36 touchdowns in his career, with at least one every season

(+/-) His days as a starter are numbered, how will he respond to the twilight of his career

(-) Does not throw enough touchdown passes to be effective, 21 is his career high

(-) The WR1 in New York is Eric Decker, not a goldmine by any stretch

(-) Only thrown for 20 or more touchdowns twice in his career

(-) Even if he wins the starting job, the Jets offense is not known for being quarterback friendly in fantasy

Mike Glennon - Pyro Character

37.     Mike Glennon

(+) Had over a 2:1 TD to interception last season throwing 19 touchdowns to 9 interceptions

(+) His only obstacle to the starting job is a 35 journeyman with just a few good starts under his belt

(+) If he starts he had one hell of a supporting cast, even better than the one he worked with last year

(+) Has very good size for the position and looks like he will be able to stand up to the rigors of a full season

(-) Completed under 60% of his passes last season

(-) Averaged just over 200 passing yards a game last season

(-) Is a statue back there, a guy who is unlikely to give you anything with his legs

(-) Very inconsistent last season, scoring between 3.5 points and 18.9 points last year

Kirk Cousins - Pyro Character

38.     Kirk Cousins

(+) Currently the backup for one of the most enigmatic quarterbacks in the NFL in Washington

(+) RG3’s rushing prowess will always make him more susceptible to big hits that can knock him out of the game, especially with his concussion history

(+) The addition of DeSean Jackson will help take the top off defenses should captain Kirk be called on to start

(+) Jordan Reed is starting the season healthy and penciled in as the starter at tight end giving him a great safety blanket at the position

(+) Jay Gruden has made a lot of money for a quarterback whose best attribute is accuracy, similar to Kirk Cousins, in Cincinnati

(-) The Redskins lost all 5 games Kirk appeared in last year

(-) Completed just 52% of his passes last season after completing 68% in limited duty his rookie year

(-) Has thrown 10 interceptions to just 8 touchdown passes so far in his career

(-) Kirk is much more of a traditional pocket passer than RG3 so he won’t provide very much with his legs in terms of fantasy points

Derek Carr Pyro Character

39.     Derek Carr

(+) Backing up Matt Schaub, should give him an opportunity to make the field this season

(+) Was stellar in college throwing 111 touchdowns and only 23 interceptions

(+) Has learned from the mistakes of his brother

(+) The Raiders have a solid backfield if they stay healthy

(+) Played college at Fresno, so is basically a hometown hero

(+) Could be a steal for Dynasty leagues long term

(-) Everyone thinks he is going to be just like his brother David

(-) The Raiders don’t have great weapons on offense, with James Jones leading the receivers

(-) Is more of a Two-Quarterback or Dynasty league player this season

Brandon Weeden Pyro Character

preseason player rankings for running backs 2014

Running Back Player Rankings – Pre-Season

Running Backs

LeSean McCoy - Pyro Character

1.       LeSean McCoy

(+) Shady had 1,607 rushing yards in 2013

(+) McCoy is saying he’s the best RB in the NFL, so it’s time to put up or shut up

(+) In 2013 the real McCoy had seven games with over 100 yards rushing

(+) The complete package that is in the perfect situation while in the prime of his career

(+) McCoy had 5.12 YPC in 2013, which marked only the second time in his career he has surpassed 5.0 YPC

(+) #25 is a dual threat back and in 2013 he had 52 receptions for 539 receiving yards

(+) Playing in the fast moving Chip Kelly offense, provides Shady more opportunities than other top flight RBs

(-) The Eagles will face the NFC West, who dominate the best running backs in the NFL

(-) Might be the first player taken in drafts - will be hard to live up to the pick?

Adrian Peterson - Pyro Character

2.       Adrian Peterson

(+) He is still a total beast, a top 3 pick in any fantasy football draft

(+) Best nicknames around: Purple Jesus and All Day are top notch

(+) The Vikings have the 5th easiest schedule against run defenses in 2014

(+) Peterson will still be the focal point of the offense, but the second year of Greg Jennings and Cordarrelle Patterson along with a healthy Kyle Rudolph should help to keep defenses honest and give AP2K more room to run

(+) Peterson is the rare back that gives you consistent points, as well as 3-4 games that can win your fantasy week all by himself

(+) If you take 2011 out of Purple Jesus’ statistics, he’s averaged 1,523 yards per season over his career

(-) The Vikings have no consistent QB, putting almost all of the offense on AP’s shoulders

(-) Peterson had only five 100-yard rushing games in 2013

(-) Peterson came down from his superhuman season in 2012, his numbers went down in every offensive category…

(-) Only had 29 receptions last year

(-) Is 29 years old, with a lot of hits taken over his 2,336 career touches

matt forte pyro character

3.       Matt Forte

(+) Has now proven the ability to score on the goal line… something he blew chunks at in previous seasons

(+) Marc Trestman arrives and Matt has his best season as a pro - we expect more of that

(+) Finished the season strong with 100 yard games in 4 of the last 5 games of the season

(+) 12 TDs last year, 9 on the ground and 3 in the passing attack

(+) You never hear anything bad about this fella, he’s focused on being great - we respect his approach to the game

(+) Had 74 catches for 594 yards and 3 TDs through the air… PPR stud for sure!

(+) The Bears line was much improved last year, will be even better this year

(+) #22 is the best Bears RB since Walter Payton retired… R.I.P. Sweetness!

(+) Five 100-yard games, and two others with over 90 yards

(+) Proved that he could be the goal line rusher and remain effective in his overall play, as he finished with a career highs in touchdowns (9), rushing yards (1339), and receptions (74).

(+) In his six seasons he has averaged over 56 receptions per game and had 74 last year - solid jump there

(+/-) Brandon Marshall and Alshon Jeffery are the best WR1 & WR2 in the league, some games it’s all passing from the Bears

(-) Has never rushed for more than 9 rushing touchdowns in a single season

(-) The Bears have a harder run schedule this year than last

(-) If the Chicago Bears defense remains to be so bad, the Bears will be less likely to run, giving Forte less chance to carry the ball

(-) The Bears are a passing team regardless of their defense, hence it constricts Forte’s value in standard leagues

Jamaal Charles - Pyro Character

4.       Jamaal Charles

(+) Charles had a career season with 1,980 total yards and 19 touchdowns a year ago - STUD!

(+) In his previous five seasons Charles had 24 touchdowns, and nearly matched that last year

(+) Alex Smith checks the ball down a lot, and Charles is the main target

(+) Has a career of 5.6 YPC…

(+) Can bust the big run at anytime and has a career long run of 91 yards

(+) Under head coach Andy Reid, Charles was utilized much more in the passing game, prior to last season “The Ostrich” had a career high of 45 catches in a season -  Charles had 70 catches in 2013

(+) Has the ability to win you a fantasy week 3-4 times a season with his explosions!

(+) Under Andy Reid has a chance to hit double-digit touchdowns in back to back seasons for the first time in his career

(+) Showed his durability last season with a career high 21.9 touches per game average

(+) ACL is no longer anything to worry about

(+) Jamaal is a supreme dual threat, and had 70 receptions for 693 yards and seven scores last season

(-) His 4.97 YPC average in 2013 was below his career average of 5.6

(-) Charles did not face a top-ten rush defense in 2013, will face four of them in 2014

(-) Jamaal has a tough road facing the NFC West, and their amazingly tough run defenses

montee ball pyro character

5.       Montee Ball

(+) Featured back on what was the highest scoring offense of all-time last season is a good guy to have in your starting lineup

(+) Peyton Manning handing you the ball creates holes just in itself

(+) That passing attack will create so many opportunities for Montee

(+) Knowshon Moreno is in Miami now, the gig is Mr. Ball’s

(+) Averaged 4.7 yards per carry in his rookie season, good enough for 8th in the league

(+) Had a large turn around in the second half of his rookie season as his rushing yards increased from 55 yards over the first eight game to 310 over the final eight. His receptions also increased from 2 to 18 in that time span

(+) Had 117 yard game on just 13 carries, which shows he has that burst

(+) A capable receiver and goal line rusher

(-) If he hadn’t fumbled the ball in week 2 on the one yard line, he may have had a lot more carries last season

(-) He fumbled a few too many times as a rookie, costing many of us a lot of #FF points

(-) Montee will get a lot of “Omaha” calls that audible his run to a pass

(-) Denver will have a tougher schedule, which may keep Ball from reaching top 10 running back standards

(-) Ball will need to continue to focus on his blocking, if he wants to be a full-time back

Eddie Lacy - Pyro Character

6.       Eddie Lacy

(+) 11 touchdowns in his rookie season, solid start

(+) Nine games over 80 yards, impressive rookie season for this guy!

(+) The passing attack for the Packers is scary to any and every NFL defense, Eddie is in the right place

(+) Already looking much better than the RB he sat behind at Alabama, Trent Richardson

(+) Won the Rookie of the Year, even though Aaron Rodgers was missing for seven games, and had to fight through eight man fronts

(+) Finished the season with 11 touchdowns and 1178 yards on 284 carries, and added 35 receptions for 257 yards

(+) The Packers offense is one of the best, and Lacy will get the heavy load in this backfield.

(+) The Packers finished 8th in points and 3rd in yards in 2013 - impressive with Rodgers and Cobb hurt for much of the season

(+) Had four games over 100 yards in his rookie season, two going over 140 yards (141, 150)

(+/-) This is a passing offense, and Lacy proved to be an adequate pass receiver in year-one

(-) Tough schedule against the run next season

(-) He needs lots of touches to get fantasy points

(-) He’s not gonna break the long one for you, not as valuable in leagues that reward for long yardage TDs

(-) Some weeks he’ll be a dud because Aaron Rodgers and the passing game is clicking

(-) Johnathan Franklin and James Starks are solid backups, if Eddy hits the sophomore slump - McCarthy may pull him

(-) Doesn’t have great burst, so will never be an explosive start, he’s a solid player, more consistent than amazing

giovani bernard pyro character

7.       Giovani Bernard

(+) With Jay Gruden going to the Washington Redskins and the run-minded Hue Jackson taking over as offensive coordinator, Bernard should reap the benefits

(+) With 3 straight first round loses in the playoffs the Bengals are hungry to improve every offseason

(+) He was the highest drafted running back in the 2013 NFL Draft, and didn’t disappoint

(+) An explosive player, who showed tremendous determination to get the job done

(+) Is more of a PPR player, as he had 56 receptions for 514 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie, and only 665 yards rushing with five touchdowns

(+) Bernard will unseat BenJarvus Green-Ellis as the full-time starter this year, needs to become a better blocker

(+/-) The team added Jeremy Hill, which could either help or hurt Gio… TBD

(-) Not a workhorse back - not an every-down back… may see light touches some weeks

(-) Had only 170 carries last year, and we’re not sure at his size he can take more than 200, smaller player for the position

(-) Will never be the goal line short yardage duties, which will effect his overall touchdown numbers, five to seven touchdowns feels about right

(-) The Bengals may have peaked, there window may be closing…plus they def. aren’t a rushing team, and this fact constricts his overall statistics

bernard pierce pyro character

8.       DeMarco Murray

(+) Just when we thought he might be dead, DeMarco shows he is still a player to be reckoned with in #FF

(+) Dual threat - he had 1,125 yards rushing plus 53 receptions last season

(+) Peaks out on all the physical measurables, when healthy is a top tier player

(+) Can bust out the big plays, as his 4.9 yards per carry average indicates

(+) Jerry has stuck by him, no weapons that threaten him at the moment in Dallas

(+) He has great weapons surrounding him, so it will be difficult for defenses to key in on him

(+) The Cowboys have a nice fantasy playoff schedule

(+) In a contract year, so there will be no doubt he will lay it all on the line for the big pay day

(+/-) #28 had three games over 100 yards (134, 146, 175)

(-) Injuries have gotten in his way, missing 11 games over the past three seasons

(-) Only had three games last season where he had more than 20 carries

(-) Is not the offensive focal point on many Sundays

doug martin pyro character

9.       Doug Martin

(+) Exploded onto the scene as a rookie with 1,926 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns two seasons ago

(+) Showed he is an absolute dual threat with 49 catches for 472 yards and a touchdown in his rookie season

(+) Before going down with injury last season Doug had the most carries for all running backs

(+) The Buccaneers added Lovie Smith who will improve the Bucs defense immediately, which should allow for Martin to be an even bigger factor this season

(+) Has big play ability with a long run of 70 yards and a long catch of 64 yards in his rookie season

(+) Rookie Mike Evans and Vincent Jackson (both giants) will help Doug bigtime…

(+/-) Jeff Tedford plans to spread the workload for the running backs, which will eat into his touches

(-) Martin suffered a torn labrum in 2013

(-) The Bucs have no consistent player at the quarterback position, leaving Martin to be the main offensive contributor

(-) Lovie Smith coming in as the head coach brings a vanilla offense who has never had an offense that finished higher than 13th

(-) Martin saw his yard per carry average drop a full yard in 2013 to 3.6 ypc

(-) We did not see the explosive plays from Martin before he suffered his injury, he looked different last season

Le'Veon Bell - Pyro Character

10.     Le’Veon Bell

(+) A true workhorse back in a day and age when that isn’t the norm

(+) With a new and young wide receiving crew in Pittsburgh, they may need to lean on the running game more this season

(+) Had a great rookie campaign after coming back from his start of the season foot injury

(+) Bell is a man child who can catch and run, and is really tough to bring down standing at 6’1" and weighing in at 244 pounds

(+) His numbers should increase with new offensive coordinator Mike Munchak installing a zone-blocking scheme

(+) Could reach the 300-touch plateau

(+/-) Had a ton of touches in college at Michigan State

(-) Not sure if this offense is going to have a super productive season

(-) Adding LeGarrette Blount to the mix isn’t ideal for Le’Veon’s touches over the season, not to mention taking touchdown opportunities away

(-) Does not have great speed as he is more of a bruiser back

(-) He won’t break the long runs for leagues that reward for longer TDs, he’s not that guy

Marshawn Lynch - Pyro Character

11.     Marshawn Lynch

(+) The addition of a healthy Percy Harvin to the offense will help keep defenses from keying in on Lynch this season

(+) Beast Mode has 37 touchdowns over the past three seasons

(+) One of the most consistent players at RB since moving to the west coast

(-) The Seahawks won the Super Bowl, but those extra games take their toll the next season - especially on RBs

(-) Percy Harvin could eat into some of Lynch’s touches

(-) Second year running back Christine Michael will push Marshawn in 2014

(-) While wearing his custom Nike skittles cleats Seattle lost and Lynch only rushed for 72 yards and one score

(-) Lynch has had over 1,000 touches in the past three seasons - way overdue for a breakdown

(-) His his YPC went down from 2012’s 5.05 to 2013’s 4.18

(-) No running back has had as many touches as “Fugly McSkittles” over a three-year span and been successful the next season…see the Busts piece by Houdini for a history lesson

Arian Foster - Pyro Character

12.     Arian Foster

(+) Primed for a bounce back season - Pyro® likes Arian this year, while we didn’t like him heading into 2013

(+) We should plenty of namaste bow’s this year from #31

(+) With some off the field issues happening over the course of his injury filled season last year, he’s ready to ball

(+) Arian is fully healthy again and cleared to play after having back surgery last November

(+) Foster is one of the few every down backs in the game, and with Ben Tate gone he is the sole main horse once again

(+) Prior to last season Foster averaged 58 catches per year over the previous three seasons

(+) The Texans will face the AFC North, Foster is pretty good against that division with 771 yards and four scores in seven games

(-) Arian Foster will match-up with the NFC East, and he has struggled against them with 283 rushing yards, and one score in four games, going 1-3 in those contests

(-) After his heavy workload early in his career he became injury-prone last year as we expected and only played eight games last season due to a season ending back injury

(-) Who is the Texans starting QB? No one knows at this point

andre ellington pyro character

13.     Andre Ellington

(+) “The Duke” is about to become a household name

(+) No player in the league has more big game potential

(+) Rashard Mendenhall retired, so his NFL relationship with Bruce Arians, they date on the side now

(+) Has great foot work and can make defenders miss, which explains his 5.5 yards per carry average

(+) Can turn the corner and break the long one

(+) Had a 80-yard run against Atlanta, and had seven games where he had an over a 20 yard run

(+) Has excellent hands and finished his rookie year with 39 receptions for 371 yards in limited playing time

(+/-) Is Andre going to get 12 looks a game or 25?

(+/-) This player is a risk, because you will have to take him within he first few rounds, he may reward you big time - could falter just as easily

(-) Has a small frame, standing at 5’10 and weighing in at 200 pounds, which may make him suspect to injuries

(-) Had a hard time grasping Bruce Arians offensive system, and needs work on his blocking skills

(-) May have difficulty running inside due to his size

(-) This is a Bruce Arians offense

Alfred Morris - Pyro Character

14.     Alfred Morris

(+) Morris had 1,275 rushing yards in 2013

(+) Having Pierre Garcon, DeSean Jackson and Jordan Reed should help to alleviate much of the pressure on Morris

(+) How can you not love a NFL player with a million dollar contract that still drives a 1991 Mazda 626

(+) Mike Shannahan is gone

(+) RGIII being healthy helps the whole machine, including Alfred

(-) His YPC went down to 4.6 last season, from 4.8 as a rookie

(-) Morris only had three 100-yard games in 2013, he had seven in his rookie season of 2012

(-) Alfred saw his touchdowns get cut nearly in half from his 2012 total of 13 to only seven last year

(-) The Redskins have Roy Helu Jr. Helu is the ultimate Vulture to Morris’s touchdowns

(-) He is not a dual threat with only 20 receptions in two seasons

(-) Head coach Jay Gruden is known for emphasizing the pass, which hurts Morris

c.j. spiller pyro character

15.     C.J. Spiller

(+) The Bills are scheduled to play games against the AFC West this year. Spiller has 654 yards versus teams from the AFC West with 4 touchdowns in seven games

(+) Fred Jackson was amazing last season, but age is catching up, as Jackson will be 33 this season

(+) On a young team, Spiller will be expected to generate offense for the Bills and return to his 2012 form

(+/-) So many owners have burned by this player, he’ll slide out of the top 2 rounds… is it worth the risk?

(-) Besides Trent Richardson, the thrilla’ was the biggest bust in fantasy football last year, had a 5.2 ADP but finished at 87th overall in fantasy points (ouch!)

(-) Spiller has durability issues

(-) The Bills traded for Bryce Brown adding another able back to the mix

(-) It remains to be seen if he will ever be the goal line back in this offense

(-) 4.62 YPC in 2013, way down from is 6.01 YPC average in 2012

(-) Spiller did not rush for over 1,000 yards in 2013 and only had two rushing touchdowns in 2013

Zac Stacy - Pyro Character

16.     Zac Stacy

(+) Out of nowhere Zach was a stud pickup last year as a rookie

(+) Conventional wisdom tells me that the Rams are going to be a better team this year than they have been since Kurt Warner was around

(+) Stacy finished the season with 973 yards rushing and seven touchdowns

(+) A bowling ball type runner who stands at 5’9 and weighs 216 pounds

(+) Can blast through the hole with speed and decisiveness, this makes him an excellent goal line carrier

(+) Had four games with over 100 yard games (104, 127, 133, 134)

(+) Has cut-back ability and will fight for every inch

(-) Does not have break away speed, so hitting the long distance run is not too likely

(-) He will get gang tackled a lot because of his lack of speed, which could lead to unnecessary punishment

(-) Has average hands, as he caught just 26 passes last season

(-) He was ruling’ it because Sam Bradford was hurt and Clemens was the QB… Sam is back in 2014

Reggie Bush - Pyro Character

17.     Reggie Bush

(+) A PPR monster this Heisman Trophy winner has 294 receptions over the last five seasons and 12 touchdowns thru the air

(+) Has had 200+ carries over the last three seasons averaging over 1,000 yards in rushing

(+) Plays in a solid Lions offense that was 6th in yards and 13th in points last season

(+) Picked Eric Ebron with their first round pick, which will open up the outside more

(+) Has missed only three games over the past three seasons, after missing 20 games from 2007-2010

(-) Maybe not much more than a PPR standout, doesn’t see the goal line carries

(-) Few players get nicked up like Reggie, he plays through it, but sometimes at the fantasy owners expense

(-) Has to contend with Joique Bell - who’s quite talented and caught just as many passes as Bush in ’13

(-) The Lions like to throw, and for good reason the Stafford to Megatron route is the mainstay in this offense

ryan mathews pyro character

18.     Ryan Mathews

(+) Was healthy for the entire season, and finished with a career high 1,255 rushing yards

(+) Rough schedule for the San Diego running backs in 2014

(+) Had six 100-yard rushing games in 2013

(+) Over the final four games of the regular season had 107 carries for 473 yards and three touchdowns

(+) Will be the clear-cut number one back to start the season

(-) Injury is still a concern with Mathews

(-) He is not a PPR threat, with only 26 receptions last season

(-) Danny Woodhead could outplay him if he gets knicked up

(-) The addition of Donald Brown to the backfield could eat into some of his touches

Bishop Sankey Pyro Character

19.     Bishop Sankey

(+) The release of Chris Johnson makes room for this rookie to make a name for himself

(+) He’ll be given every chance to succeed and be the next CJ2K

(+) Great character, hard worker, leader… qualities that Chris Johnson didn’t have

(+) Sankey ran a 4.49 at the combine, is a workout warrior and could break out immediately

(+) This compact runner has great cut back ability, and can elude defenders and overpower them too

(+) Can get yards after contact, and has excellent field vision

(-) Smallish size standing at 5’9 and 209 pounds

(-) Not sure what is happening there at QB, it’s a questionable team fantasy-wise - they don’t light up the #FF world

(-) Does not bring much power as a running back, the NFL speed and size could be a tough proposition for this player

(-) Needs to develop his pass protection skills

Frank Gore - Pyro Character

20.     Frank Gore

(+) Has seven 1,000-yard rushing seasons in his last eight

(+) Has over 1,000 yards from scrimmage eight seasons in a row

(+) Gore has 26 touchdowns over the last three seasons, with nine each of the last two years

(+) Still gets the majority of redzone work

(-) Harbaugh may choose to keep The Tank fresh for the playoffs

(-) The 49ers have the best receiving corps in the league

(-) He’s not getting nearly the same amount of targets out of the backfield now that Checkdown Alex Smith is gone

(-) Age could finally be catching up with him

(-) Marcus Lattimore and Carlos Hyde present a challenge Gore has not had in years past

(-) Over the last eight years has averaged 245 rushes per season, with 276 last season

Trent Richardson - Pyro Character

21.     Trent Richardson

(+) Richardson will have a full offseason to integrate fully with the Colts offense

(+) Trent has dual threat ability, catching 51 passes as a rookie

(+) He is now playing on a team that has the chance to win a lot of the games they play

(+) The Colts have the 3rd easiest schedule against running defenses this season

(+) Richardson will still have an opportunity to compete for a starting job in 2014

(+/-) If he “get it” and turns out to be an ok 3rd pick overall, he’ll be a steal in drafts this season

(-) Has not been an effective runner in the NFL with a career 3.3 YPC average

(-) Richardson did not have a game where he rushed for 100 yards last season

(-) Trent rushed for under 50 yards 11 times…UGH!!!

(-) Richardson only had three rushing touchdowns in 2013

Rashad Jennings Pyro Character

22.     Rashad Jennings

(+) Had a career high 1,025 yards from scrimmage, the first 1,000-yard season of his career

(+) Favorable schedule for RBs this season (tied for 6th in our SOS)

(+) Will get the chance to be the lead dog for the Giants

(+) Is a dual threat back, and had 36 receptions in limited work last season

(+) Rushed for a career high six touchdowns last season

(+/-) Was last year a fluke or is this guy for real

(-) Has never had to be the lead back in an offense

(-) His 163 carries last season were a career high, it remains to be seen how he will handle a larger workload

(-) Has only had more than 20 carries in a game five times in 53 career games

lamar miller pyro character

23.     Lamar Miller

(+) Miller runs a 4.4 forty at 212 pounds, a great blend of speed and size

(+) The Dolphins offensive line can’t possibly be any worse than it was last season

(+) Newly minted runner Knowshon Moreno showed up to camp fat and with knee trouble, so Miller has been working with the first team all offseason

(+) The team has all but given up hope on Daniel Thomas so Miller should get more than his share of chances this offseason

(+) Miller is a very capable receiver out of the backfield as he has caught 32 passes so far in his career

(-) Miller’s inability to find the endzone more than twice a season for his career is disheartening

(-) If Knowshon returns to form he should at least carve out the third down role for his ability as a plus pass protector and receiver out of the backfield

(-) Has shown limited ability to break tackles in his career so far

Toby Gerhart Pyro Character

24.     Toby Gerhart

(+) Gerhart will get his first chance to lead the way in Jacksonville

(+) Has spent his career as a backup to Adrian Peterson

(+) People hate white RBs in fantasy football so you can get him as a value pick with the upside that he plays all 16 games as the horseback

(+) Has a career 4.7 YPC on 276 rushes

(+) Can be a dual threat with 77 catches in his career, in limited time

(+) Only real competition is a seventh round draft pick Storm Johnson

(+) Has very little tread on his tires, should stay healthy

(-) Has had over 20 carries only twice in his career

(-) Will be surrounded by a lot of rookies, which could put more pressure on him

Chris Johnson Pyro Character

25.     Chris Johnson

(+) CJ is going to be under the radar in fantasy drafts this season

(+) The Jets have a very favorable strength of schedule, and Johnson should be able to take advantage

(+) Has rushed for more than 1,000 yards every season of his six year career

(+) Continues to be a dual threat with 42 receptions last season, and a career season average of 45.3 receptions

(+/-) Hard to gauge how effective the Jets offense will be in 2014

(+/-) Needs to redeem himself, he went from CJ2K to CJNOK

(-) Only had two 100-yard rushing games in 2013

(-) Had a career low 3.9 YPC last season

(-) The Jets plan to employ a committee backfield

pierre thomas pyro character

26.     Pierre Thomas

(+) The prototypical Dual back had over 500 yards rushing and receiving last season

(+) Had a career-high 77 receptions last season to lead all running backs

(+) With Darren Sproles moving on to the Eagles, Thomas should see even more action in the passing game this season

(+) With 1,062 yards from scrimmage, it marked the second time in his career he surpassed 1,000 yards from scrimmage

(+) We believe this will be his breakout year

(-) His 147 rushing attempts last season was a career high, but his 3.7 YPC average, was the second lowest in his career.

(-) Only scored more than 10 touchdowns once in his seven year career, had only five last season

Steven Jackson - Pyro Character

27.     Steven Jackson

(+) Action Jackson is a dual threat running back, averaging 369 yards receiving per season for his career

(+) With all the Falcons healthy this season, Jackson will have the most protection he has had in his career

(+) His ego was hurt last year, he should respond like a badass

(+) Julio should be there the whole season this time around

(-) The Falcons have a tough schedule against run defenses last season (ranked 25th)

(-) SJax is not a real touchdown threat with 37 touchdowns over the past seven seasons

(-) Jackson had high expectations heading into 2013, but turned out to be a major bust in his first campaign with the Falcons

(-) #39 only played in 12 games last year because of injuries

(-) Steven only had 543 rushing yards with six scores in 12 games last year

(-) @sj39 had his worst season in the pros last year, with only 734 yards from scrimmage

joique bell pyro character

28.     Joique Bell

(+) Dual threat back, finished with 1,197 yards from scrimmage (650 rushing, 547 receiving)

(+) Had 53 receptions last season, compared to 54 for Reggie Bush although with 11 less targets

(+) The Lions are a high-powered offense, which prevents defenses from stacking the box

(+) Good guy, his teammates love him

(+) Oft hurt Reggie Bush goes down and Joique is a bonified RB1

(+/-) I miss Kevin Smith getting cut and resigned three times a year

(-) Had double-digit carries only five times last season

(-) With the increased carries he had a 3.9 YPC average

(-) Reggie Bush is still the featured back in the offense

(-) Talk of Theo Riddick being a dynamic playmaker that has to be included in the game plan will hurt Bell’s chances

Ben Tate Pyro Character

29.     Ben Tate

(+) Joined the Browns over the off-season and will have a chance to prove himself in a full-time role

(+) Has shown his talents when healthy, in his rookie season in 2011 he had 942 yards with a 5.4 yards per carry average

(+) If Johnny Manziel is the starter as we suspect, that running QB variable could open things up

(+) He had 34 receptions last season - he’s got good hands and can add to PPR leagues because of this skill set

(-) Cant seem to shake the injury situation, he has missed eight games over the last three seasons (always lower body injuries)

(-) If he starts out slow, he’s not a name that gets a whole season to prove his worth, getting the hook is fully possible

(-) He may have to share time with Chris Ogbonnaya and rookie Terrance West

(-) Looks like Josh Gordon likes smoking bongs more than making millions…

(-) Has never proved he could carry a full load, question marks a plenty

stevan ridley pyro character

30.     Stevan Ridley

(+) Had double-digit carries in 10 of 14 games last season

(+) Scored seven touchdowns during a five game stretch last season, with a score in every game

(+) LaGarrett Blount is now on the Pittsburgh Steelers

(+) Scored two touchdowns in the Patriots first playoff game against the Colts

(+/-) Not sure if he will get any goal line opportunities this year

(-) Not sold that Bill Belichick trusts this fella

(-) Was held without a touchdown in his final five games

(-) Continues to have problems securing the football, and had four fumbles for the second season in a row

(-) After having 290 carries in 2012, Ridley only had 178 last season

(-) Saw his rushing touchdown total drop from 12 to seven in 2013

Fred Jackson - Pyro Character

31.     Fred Jackson

(+) Jackson continues to be a productive back with 1,277 yards from scrimmage last season

(+) Has over 1,000 yards from scrimmage in four of his last five seasons

(+) Had a career high nine rushing touchdowns, and 10 scores overall

(+) This dude is timeless, looks like a grandpa – plays like a hungry man

(+) Scored over 200 fantasy points last season, for the third time in six seasons

(-) Still has to contend with C.J. Spiller for touches

(-) At 33 years old, he is due to start slowing down

(-) Prior to last season only played in 20 games over the previous two years

Shane Vereen - Pyro Character

32.     Shane Vereen

(+) Shane Vereen is one of the best pass catching backs in the NFL in a system that uses them better than anyone else

(+) Vereen’s 10.9 points per game ranked 18th among running backs and was better than notable names Arian Foster and Giovani Bernard

(+) One of the only running backs in the league with double digit reception potential in a single game

(+) No one has worse butter fingers than his teammate Stevan Ridley so there will be games when Vereen is asked to tout the rock more than expected

(+) Had a huge 17 target, 12 reception for 153 yards, game last season against the Cleveland Browns

(-) Looks like the Patriots don’t believe he can handle a large workload in the running game as they continue to put the ball in the hands of the fumble prone Ridley

(-) Isn’t an elite athlete for the position, so he must make up for it with heady play

(-) Besides his 14 carry 101 yard rushing performance in week 1, he had just 30 carries in 7 games and gained just 3.56 yards per carry

(-) The Patriots will use a number of running backs in different situations so Vereen may be more inconsistent than an owner might like

danny woodhead pyro character

33.     Danny Woodhead

(+) Had a career high 76 receptions on just 87 targets last season

(+) Finished last season with 1,034 yards and eight touchdowns

(+) With Ryan Mathews history of injuries, Woodhead could step into an even bigger role in 2014

(+) Hard not to root for this little muskrat of a player

(+) In PPR formats Woodhead finished 12th in scoring last season

(+) Had the second most receptions by a running back last season

(-) Still not a true workhorse back, so you will not get the super high-end productivity

(-) Chargers have a really hard rush schedule at 27th in our Strength of Schedule for the upcoming season

(-) Prior to last season’s 106 carries, Danny had never reached the 100-carry level in a season

(-) The addition of Donald Brown to offense, could eat into his production

Jeremy Hill Pyro Character

34.     Jeremy Hill

(+) Has already beaten out The Law Firm as the number two back in the offense

(-) With a heavy workload in college, he could breakdown in the second half of the season

(-) Rookie season, temper expectations

(-) After 1,606 rushing yards in 2011, only had 1,217 rushing yards over the last two seasons

(-) Had a career low 3.4 YPC average last season

(-) Different player now, he doesn’t seem as hungry to pound the ball

(-) Oakland is where MJD suffered his last injury

(+/-) The 49ers are thinking Super Bowl now, this season

(-) The backfield is crowded with Gore, Hunter and Marcus Lattimore in the mix

(-) Playing in the NFC West means Hyde will face tough run defenses six times

(-) If Kaepernick and the Niners find success early in the season thru the air, his opportunities will drop bigtime

Charles Sims Pyro Character

43.     Charles Sims

(+) Will compete to be Doug Martin’s backup, and should beat out Mike James and Bobby Rainey

(+) At 6’ and 214 pounds Sims has the size to run inside and could earn himself goal line carries

(+) Martin is coming off an injury and Sims is the insurance

(+) Sims has good speed as he ran a 4.48 forty-yard dash

(+) Averaged 11.6 points a game in his three games last year

(+) Is a three down back who never needs to come out of the game, even in the redzone

(-) Health is beyond a concern as he hasn’t played in a full season since 2010

(-) No other back on the roster can threaten Bradshaw’s spot on the depth chart

(-) Foot injuries can sap a runners effectiveness so owners will want to see how he runs before draft day

(+) Has played well when given the opportunity to be a full-time back

(+) In four games last season with 18+ carries he averaged 107 yards

(+) A physical runner who likes to punish defenders, and is incredibly tough to bring down

(-) Is not a PPR worthy, as he is a non-factor in the passing game

Andre Brown Pyro Character

46.     Andre Brown

(+) No serious injuries are hanging over Jonathan Stewart at this time

(+) Speed kills and Stewart brings an explosion factor that no one else in the Panthers backfield brings to the table

(-) Stewart has averaged just 3.7 yards per carry over the last two seasons

(-) #28 is already missing time during training camp with a pulled hamstring - INJURY-PRONE!!!

(-) Stewart has played in under half of the Panthers games the last two seasons

(+) In week 2 as the starter, Starks carried the rock 20 times for 132 yards and 1 score while catching 4 of his 5 targets for 36 yards, if he is called upon to start in place of Lacy you can get starting caliber numbers from this guy.

(-) Lacy is entrenched in a pure three down role and never truly needs to leave the field.

(-) Starks has never played a full season so far in his NFL career

(-) James is a merely adequate receiver out of the backfield, not a major threat to compliment Lacy in a pure third down role.

(+) Last season Calvin & Hops had a career high 17.8 yards-per-catch

(+) Johnson had 1,492 receiving yards in only 14 games last year

(+/-) Had only seven 100-yard receiving games last year, after having 11 in 2012 and 8 in 2011

(-) Jim Caldwell plans to bring the rushing to passing ratio closer to 50/50 – when last year they were 59.6% passing to run.

(-) Johnson missed two games in 2013 due to injury

(-) He only had 5 TDs in 2012

(-) Tell me a receiver you would rather have over Calvin Johnson? Yeah, there’s really no reason for any negatives here

(+) Julio Jones had 41 catches in only five games last season - lead the league at that point - he was put him on pace to finish w/ 131 receptions

(+) Julio was averaging 116 yard per game last season before he was injured

(+) Harry Douglas’s extended playing time last year will help Julio this season

(+) His given name is Quintorris Lopez "Julio" Jones

(+) Tony G’s targets would probably go towards the best receiver the team, equaling more looks!

(-) Julio will be the one getting the double teams in most games this year - he’s the defacto WR1

(-) Tough strength of schedule for the Falcons this year for the passing attack

(-) After week 5, Jones was sidelined for the rest of the season due to a nasty foot injury (the catch he made on the play was insane though)

(-) An old screw from a pre-draft surgery broke his foot last year, who knows if it will heal correctly this time? Truly scary

(-) We aren’t sold on the coaches of this team and their week-to-week game plans

(-) On weeks that Roddy blows up, JJ is going to be a let down

(+) The money man had 100 yards in 5 weeks in a row in 2013

(+) Dalton and A.J. have 3 seasons under their belts together

(+) At 25 years old he's already mentioned amongst the best WR's in the game

(+) Speed, Size, Smarts.  He runs pristine routes, can go deep and isn't afraid to catch the ball in traffic

(+) You can’t find a more highly touted (4th overall) wideout to have delivered so quickly in his career

(+) The addition of Giovani Bernard last season will continue to help A.J. - they added rookie Jeremy Hill this year which helps even more

(+) Green is probably the most Randy Moss-esque wide receiver we've seen since, and he comes without the character issues

(+) Green recorded 11 touchdowns last season (had 11 in 2012 as well) - he’s consistent

(+) 10 games with at least 6 catches

(+) Finally performed well against the Ravens last year, 12 catches for 212 yards and 2 scores in 2 games in 2013

(+) Marvin Jones had a nice season last year and Tyler Eifert should improve in his sophomore season to keep defenses honest for A.J.

(-) The emergence of other weapons in the offense (Giovani Bernard, Jeremy Hill and Marvin Jones) mean potentially less looks

(-) Jay Gruden is gone; enter Hue Jaskson who likes to run the ball a lot more than Gruden did

(-) Can throw up some really stinky games here and there (2 catches for 7 yards against Cleveland in Week 12)

Brandon Marshall Pyro Character

5.         Brandon Marshall

(+) 365 targets over the last two seasons is pretty remarkable

(+) He’s hungry to be the best… which, with that talent and his current situation on the Bears is huge.

(+) Marshall had 1,295 yards receiving & 12 touchdowns in 2013

(+) BMarsh has over 2,800 yards with 23 touchdowns in the past two seasons (ELITE!!)

(+) A second year in the Marc Trestman offense should produce big numbers once again

(+) Marshall & Cutler really like playing catch on Sundays - they are inching towards an all-time connection NFL-wise

(+) Explosion factor, Marshall is a big play guy that can bust out a 30+ yard receptions on any play

(+) Brandon Marshall drops passes like porn stars take Z-Packs… his 12 drops in 2013 were the most of all WRs (he had 10 in 2012)

(+) With the ball in his hands, he's a total monster… he wants to hurt the tackler

(+) Seems to be past his allergic to touchdowns phase…

(-) With the emergence of young star Alshon Jeffery, Marshall might not be getting as many targets or receptions in 2014

(-) Brandon only had six games last season with over 100 yards receiving

(-) The Bears will continue to spread the ball around in Marc Trestman’s offense

(-) He signed his $30 million dollar extension on ‘The View’

(+) Has over 2,600 yards with 25 touchdowns over the past two seasons (ELITE!!)

(+/-) He’s asking to be paid like the best WRs now, a good thing or a bad one?

(-) The Cowboys have the 3rd worst strength of schedule at the WR position

(-) Dez had three fumbles in 2013

(-) Bryant’s has oft been a head case WR diva - The 25 year-old still has a curfew & a chaperon for a reason worth considering

(-) The Cowboys have a tough schedule and will face the NFC West in 2013

(-) The emergence of Terrance Williams could take some targets away from Dez

(-) Jason Witten ain’t scaring defenses as much anymore, defenses are creeping towards Dez

(-) Tony Romo is in line for a tough season via schedule, age, recovery from injury and the internets love of hatin’ on him - these facts affect @DezBryant

Jordy Nelson Pyro Character

7.         Jordy Nelson

(+) Has crazy TD potential scoring 30 times over the last 3 seasons.

(+) Jordy should be #12's favorite target

(+) Had 22 catches for 20 yards or more, trying Calvin for 4th at the position

(+) The Pack has the 5th easiest schedule for WRs in 2014

(+) Makes insane plays and can tip toe along the sideline better than anyone

(+) With James Jones’s departure could see an increase in his 127 targets, which were the second least out of all the 15 top WRs in standard scoring

(+) Nelson is the tallest of the Packers wideouts, yet could also be the fastest as well as the one with the best hands

(+) Last season Nelson had over 1,300 yards receiving

(+) Nelson had 5 games with over 100 yards receiving

(+) Jordy had 8 Receiving TD’s last season

(+) Nelson averaged over 15 yards per catch in 2013

(+) Tends to be underestimated out on the field – possibly because he's white

(-) Aaron likes to spread the pill around, so Jordy stands to be inconsistent, just as he was last season

(-) Plays through nagging injuries that bring his upside down to Earth

(-) Had 1 touchdown in his last 9 regular season games in 2013

Alshon Jeffery Pyro Character

8.         Alshon Jeffery

(+) No player exploded onto the seen like Alshon in 2013, he was one of the best players in the league, regardless of position

(+) Alshon finished the season as the 9th ranked WR for fantasy football last year with 192.6 fantasy points

(+) Jeffery surprisingly runs the ball more than any other receiver in the league (16 attempts last season)

(+) He faired well with both Cutler and McCown running the offense last season, so with Cutler as the man, that should carry over well into 2014

(+) His 149 targets was the most of any second year player (T.Y. Hilton was second with 139)

(-) Will the loss of fellow draft classmate Emmanual Sanders to the Broncos effect #84 this season

(-) It’s hard to imagine this fella repeating what he did last season

(-) The Steelers have the 6th hardest schedule for wide receivers this upcoming season

Percy Harvin Pyro Character

11.       Percy Harvin

(+) Pete Carroll will find ways to get Percy the ball that no other coach could fathom

(+) Great speed, awesome open field domination - hard worker and a player that wants to be elite... he could just explode this year - but he may just always be banged up

(+) Could easily be the WR that has the most touches, targets & looks in 2013

(+) Percy seems content, has the # and no could just perform for fantasy owners this year

(+) Because of injury, he will slide lower in many drafts

(+) When healthy and a  big part of the game-plan, he's an all-time fantasy talent

(+) #11 is a full season removed from his hip issues

(+) He had an impact on the Super Bowl outcome (ran a reverse for 20 yards on the first play)

(-) The Hawks play against the 49ers, Rams and Patrick Peterson two times each per season, tough division for offenses - that's six games!

(-) Wilson is not a high volume passing yards QB, this hinders the upside of Percy receiving the ball

(-) Super Bowl Championship hangover could set in on the whole team

(-) Injury Prone, if that hip acts up - his career as a game breaker may be over

Pierre Garcon Pyro Character

12.       Pierre Garcon

(+) He's RGIII's favorite target, even with DeSean Jackson now there

(+) 182 targets last season, which gave him the most in the league

(+) Garçon had 1346 yards receiving last season

(+) PG had 5 games with over 100 yards receiving in 2013

(-) ONLY 4 TOUCHDOWNS IN 2013!!

Mike Wallace Pyro Character

14.       Mike Wallace

(-) Was held under 50 yards receiving nine times

(-) Coming off second straight season failing to reach 1,000 yards receiving

(+) Played in 8 games last year, more than people remember

(+) Catches everything thrown his way, and gets plenty of targets

(+) He’s pissed at the last play of the season and Richard Sherman showing him up, he’s worked hard to get a ring

(-) He was injured badly last year, maybe there is a possibility for re-injury

(-) Colin Kaepernick has a ton of targets on that offense, and isn’t a high volume yardage passer

(-) Crabtree plays the NFC West 6 games per year, and that’s a tough proposal

Wes Welker Pyro Character

16.       Wes Welker

(+) We don't call him the “Slot Machine” for nothing…

(+) Playing the best quarterback of all-time

(+) Even though Welker’s numbers went down he still had 10 receiving TD’s in 2013

(+) Because of his size (5’9”, 185-pounds) and color (pretty darn white), Welker seems to slip in every fantasy draft

(-) Welker isn’t getting any younger (33 years old)

(-) Welker only caught 73 receptions last year, way down from the previous years (a drop of 45 less receptions than the year before with the Patriots)

(-) Welker did not have a 100 yard receiving game last season

(-) Big feet, small hands

(-) Welker had 10 drops for a ridiculously high 9% of targets thrown his way

(+) Carson Palmer has made a career out of making WR2’s look like All-Pro (see Ochocinco & Housh)

(+) Michael Floyd was a first rounder (13th pick) in the 2012 NFL Draft

(+) Ok, he’s really talented, really fast, has perfect WR size and is a bonified football player

(+) This video sums it all up: http://on.nfl.com/1nbliGb (he was hurt all week prior to this game, toughed it out)

(-) Not many negatives on this player to be honest, don’t over draft and he should come at a nice value

(-) Plays against the stout defenses of the Seahawks, 49ers and Rams two times apiece each season

18.       Cordarrelle Patterson

(+) Had 3 rushing TDs (including a 35 and 50 yarders)

(+) Was born on St. Patrick's day, he’s gotta get lucky this year

(+) If you play in a league that rewards points for special teams this player shoots up the rankings (Pro Bowler at special teams last season)

(+) Holds the record for the longest play in NFL history with a 109-yard kick return

(-) Bridgewater, Cassel and Ponder would all be equally marginal facilitators for Patterson

(-) The special teams duty could bite owners in the ass via injury

(-) RAW player that hasn’t shown yet whether he wants to be great or live off his God-given talents

Roddy White Pyro Character

19.       Roddy White

(+) He’ll be healthy entering the season unlike last year

(+) Fantasy owners should be able to pick him up at a value after last seasons low fantasy #’s

(+) Though he played in 13 games and finished with 87.1 fantasy points per game, 62.2 of those were scored over the final 5 weeks

(+) 43 catches for 502 yards and 2 TDs in his final 5 games in ‘13

(+) Matt Ryan has become one of the league’s elite fantasy football QBs

(+) Less pressure on the team

(+) One of the best pure route runners in the league and usually snags everything thrown his way

(+/–) Which Steven Jackson will the Falcons have this year

(-) No longer the Alpha-Dog on the Falcons - Julio Jones has taken over the role

(-) Roddy white played in 13 games, but was ineffective due to a lingering high ankle sprain

(-) Roddy only had 771 yards receiving, the first time he has been held under 1,000 yards since 2006

(-) WHITE ONLY HAD 3 TOUCHDOWNS LAST SEASON!!!

(-) #84 had only 63 receptions last season, after averaging 100 over the previous three seasons

(-) Overall just a bad 2013 season for Roddy White

(-) Harry Douglas had 85 catches for a 1067 yards last season

(-) Roddy and Julio rarely both have great stats during the same week

(-) Will turn 33 years old during the season (November 2nd)

Andre Johnson Pyro Character

20.       Andre Johnson

(+) Seven 1,000-yard seasons in his career

(+) A.J. had 1,407 receiving yards in 2013

(+) Johnson proved he is like a fine wine and gets better with age…109 receptions last season

(+) Andre had six games with 100 or more yards receiving

(+) In Week 8 of 2013, Andre Johnson had 229 receiving yards, 3 scores, and averaged more than 25 yards per reception

(+) Saw 181 targets last season

(+) Played in all 16 games in seven of 10 seasons

(+) Five seasons with 100 or more receptions

(-) Only five receiving touchdowns in 2013 all coming in just two games

(-) Matt Schaub is gone, leaving quarterback uncertainty for Andre Johnson and the Texans

(-) Ryan Fitzpatrick or possibly a rookie quarterback means inconsistency, and that will hurt A.J.

(-) Age will eventually catch up to Johnson

(-) DeAndre Hopkins should improve and steal away targets from the veteran

(-) Doesn’t catch many touchdowns anymore, 0 double digit TD seasons in his career

(-) Only 11 touchdowns over the past 3 seasons

Vincent Jackson Pyro Character

21.       Vincent Jackson

(+) Has elite size for the position at 6’5”, 240 pounds

(+) Explosion factor, the guy can have some huge games in his 4 biggest games combined last year he had 36 catches for 571 yards and 5 TDs

(+) With recently drafted Mike Evans now on the other side, V-Jax has a better counterpart than he had in Mike Williams

(+) Jackson had 1,224 yards receiving in 2013

(+) Vincent had 7 TD’s last season

(+) Jackson had 4 games with over 100 yards receiving last season including 2 multi TD games

(+/-) Josh McCown had one good season, not sure he’s a starting QB in this league?

(-) Lovie Smith

(-) V-Jax has a tendency to disappear at times, posting 7 games with three or fewer catches last season

(-) Never been a very good PPR wide receiver

(-) Always seems to struggled against the better pass defenses/elite pass defenders

(-) His yards per catch dropped by 3.5% during his first season in Tampa

Keenan Allen Pyro Character

22.       Keenan Allen

(+) FIVE 100-yard games as a rookie is just unheard of

(+) Unquestionably Philip Rivers, a future HOFer’s favorite target

(+) He went to UCal Berkley so he’s sharper than most guys in the NFL (it’s the best state school in the country)

(+) Only 4 other players in the history of the NFL have had 1,000 yards in their rookie season (A.J. Green, Anquan Boldin, Randy Moss and Joey Galloway are the others)

(+) Plays with a chip on his shoulder, always the underdog - we like his will and perseverance

(+/-) Mike McCoy did his thing last year, can they build on it and be an even better offense?

(-) Had a great rookie season, but this guy is not a gifted player at the position - he’s not elite

(-) The Chargers have a bunch of solid RBs, and could go run first in many outings

(-) Not sure he can have that type of season year in and year out, we may have seen the ceiling in his rookie year

(-) He needs other receivers to step up or he’ll be blanketed

Jeremy Maclin Pyro Character

23.       Jeremy Maclin

(+) Maclin will not have to worry about playing in the shadow of DeSean Jackson in 2014

(+) Chip Kelly plans to use Maclin in a multitude of ways

(+) Maclin is on a one-year contract, which means he has a lot to play for

(+) DeSean Jackson and Riley Cooper put up career numbers in Chip Kelly’s offense, which bodes well for Maclin

(-) Has yet to have a 1,000-yard receiving season

(-) Jeremy is hurt more often than any other first round WR taken that I can remember

(-) If he gets injured or doesn’t perform, the Maclin hype machine will run out of batteries

(-) Jordan Matthews and Josh Huff ad depth, but may steal targets

(-) After scoring 10 touchdowns in 2010, had 12 touchdowns over the next two seasons

T.Y. Hilton Pyro Character

24.       T.Y. Hilton

(+) Hilton stepped up in his second season with 82 receptions for 1,083 yards

(+) Has developed a nice chemistry with Andrew Luck

(+) Had at least 4 targets in every game, and at least 6 targets in 13 games

(+) Had six 100-yard receiving games

(+) Big game potential with all 100-yard games going for at least 121 yards, and had high receiving games of 155 and 224 yards

(+) Scored two or more touchdowns in three games

(-) Tough schedule this year for the Colts receiving corps.

(-) Donte Moncrief looks like he could be the real deal

(-) Only scored touchdowns in three games last season

(-) A healthy Reggie Wayne, and newly acquired Hakeem Nicks will eat into his targets

(-) During a six game stretch was held to 265 yards on 30 receptions with no touchdowns

Larry Fitzgerald Pyro Character

25.       Larry Fitzgerald

(+) Larry had 10 touchdowns last season

(+) Larry has the best hands in the league – hands-down - ahhh puns

(+) He always attends his own receiving camp and since pretty much any receiver who attends his camp gets better, why shouldn’t he?

(+) Andre Ellington should open up wholes in the zone for Larry, and Michael Floyd might help open things up as well

(+) Another year with Carson should help Fitz have a bounce back season

(-) Fitzgerald averaged 11.6 YPR last year, which is the second lowest in his career

(-) Michael Floyd is continuing to improve, and has become the deep threat in Bruce Arians offense

(-) Larry only had two 100-yard receiving games in 2013

(-) Second straight season with under 1,000 yards receiving, not a good trend

(-) Bruce Arians always likes to have a deep threat receiver, and Michael Floyd is that guy

Tight End Player Rankings – Pre-Season

Tight Ends

Jimmy Graham Pyro Character

1.     Jimmy Graham

(+) Jimmy Smits is easily Drew Brees' favorite target, and Drew throws for more yards than anyone

(+) Graham is tall, fast and not afraid to go across the middle

(+) I imagine a lot of fine money slam dunking the goalpost after TDs in 2014

(+) Brees knows how to throw it high where only Jimmy can come down with it…and #80 always does

(+) Red Zone BEAST is an understatement

(+) First round value pick at the tight end position, the first ever like him at the position

(+) Graham had 16 TDs in the 2013 season

(+) 1,215 receiving yards in 2013

(+) Brandin Cooks will help take coverage away from Jimmy

(+) Prior to the plantar fascia, Graham averaged 15 fantasy points per game, that average includes the donut game he had against the Patriot’s Aqib Talib

(+) 86 receptions in 2013

(+) Graham averaged 14.13 receiving yards per catch last season

(-) If he wins his arbitration, he could be listed as a WR, not as a TE on your fantasy league website

(-) Teams are focused now on Graham more than ever

(-) Will the Saints move to a more balanced offense this season or continue to be one of the more pass happy teams in the league

Julius Thomas Pyro Character

2.     Julius Thomas

(+) Orange Julius has Peyton Manning throwing to him

(+) Still an unknown, with so many other weapons of the Broncos, this ex-hooper gets overlooked

(+) Finished with 150 fantasy points, averaging over 10 #FF points per outing

(+) Eric Decker is gone, could see increased role

(+) Great red zone target for Peyton

(+) Had two multi-TD games

(-) The Donkeys have the hardest schedule for TEs this season

(-) He may go a little early in drafts

(-) Lots of weapons on the Broncos, and Manning likes to spread it around - some days Julius will be the odd man out

Rob Gronkowski Pyro Character

3.     Rob Gronkowski

(+) Assuming he’s healthy, he’ll be a very high draft pick for good reason he’s Tom Brady’s most talented target

(+) Gronk had 10 or more targets in 4 of 7 games in 2013)

(+) 66 targets in 7 games

(+) Gronk finished 2nd among tight ends in fantasy points per game with 11.9 points per game

(+) Averages .84 touchdowns per game over his career

(+) 42 touchdowns in his 50 NFL games

(+) Probably the hardest guy in the league to tackle, he is a big big dude and no one wants to tackle a train

(+) 6'6", 265 pounds of fury

(+) Gronk owns the NFL record for tight ends with 17 TDs in 2011 - 4 more TDs than the previous record (Jimmy had 16 last season)

(+) #87 also owns the record for most yards ever in a single season by a TE (1,327 yards)

(+) Tom Brady pretty much has a man-crush on Gronk just like just about every other girl in Las Vegas

(+) In only 7 games last season Gronk had 3 games with over 100 yards receiving

(-) Gronk is officially injury-prone, durability for him is a major issue

(-) After coming off an ACL injury may start the 2014 season on the PUP list

Jordan Cameron Pyro Character

4.     Jordan Cameron

(+) Jordan Cameron is an athletic freak, who used play WR in college

(+) In the 2 full games that Brian Hoyer started last year Cameron had 23 targets with 16 catches for 157 yards and 4 touchdowns totaling 39.7 fantasy points

(+) Was targeted at least 4 times per game, including 4 games with double digit targets

(+) Caught 68% of his targets

(+) Cameron comes from a long line of USC tight ends that have had success in the NFL

(+) Cameron has 4.5 speed, 6’5” size and 255 pounds, and has a 37 inch vertical

(+) Cameron had 917 receiving yard last season

(+) 7 TDs in 2013 for Jordan

(+/-) Johnny Football Manziel

(-) Lost tight end guru Norv Turner, and tight end centric head coach Rod Chudzinski

(-) Cameron is very raw as a route runner and needs some refinement in this area

Jordan Reed Pyro Character

5.     Jordan Reed

(+) We expect a breakout season from this second year tight end

(+) RGIII will check down more in Gruden’s passing attack

(+) Caught 45 of the 59 balls thrown his way

(+) They actually ran the ball to Jordan last year once

(+) Had 14 targets in one game last year, so RGIII likes throwing his way

(+) Nice schedule in 2014 for tight ends on the Ravens based on our SOS

(-) Has been injury prone in college and his first season as a pro, has to stay healthy

(-) Missed the final 6 games of last season with a head trauma injury, which is never a good thing - Has had FOUR CONCUSSIONS over the past four years in the NFL and college

Kyle Rudolph Pyro Character

6.     Kyle Rudolph

(+) New offensive coordinator Norv turner is a tight end guru: Jordan Cameron, Antonio Gates, Jay Novacek

(+) Entering the final year of his rookie contract… looking for dough!

(+) Insanely talented TE that has nowhere to go but up stat wise in his fourth season

(+) Rudolph has by far the best hands on the team regardless of position

(+) Ex Notre Dame darling could end up being Gronkesque with his red zone prowess

(+) Everyone will be focused on stopping AP this season and give Rudolph some nice passing lanes especially in the play action game

(+/-) 15 touchdowns in 39 games but 12 TDs in the last 24 games

(-) Averages under 10 yards a catch in his career

(-) Not much of a threat when he doesn’t reach the endzone

(-) Rudolph only played in 8 games in 2013 with a foot injury (the play he injured it on was one of the top plays of the 2013 NFL season)

(-) Averages just 27 receiving yards per game in his career so far

(-) Teddy Bridgewater, Matt Cassel and Christian Ponder

(-) The Vikings are juggling QB’s, uncertainty at this position could hurt Kyle Rudolph

Vernon Davis Pyro Character

7.     Vernon Davis

(+) 13 receiving TD’s in 2013, and was only held out of the end zone in 4 games

(+) He’s been awesome, yet hasn’t seemed to peak - could be a big year for Vernon

(+) Harbaugh loves the tight end position and seems to want to contract VD

(+) Vernon finished 2nd in #FF points for TEs on only 84 targets (14th  for TEs)

(+) Davis is a workhorse only missing 2 games in the past 6 seasons (missed 1 game in 2013)

(+) 16.35 yards per reception last season

(+) Vernon is an absolute freak of an athletic specimen and is easily the fastest tight end in the league (4.38 40-yard dash)

(-) Davis is yet to have a 1,000 yard season

(-) Davis only had 52 receptions last season

(-) Kaep only throws for 200ish yards per game, and there are lot’s of mouths to feed

(-) 8 games with 52 yards or less, including 5 games with 21 yards or less - bad time!

(-) Only 1 game with over 100 yards receiving

Dennis Pitta Pyro Character

8.     Dennis Pitta

(+) Pitta had two games with 11 targets after he returned from his hip injury last year

(+) Fully healthy again after sitting out 12 games in 2013

(+) The Ravens added some talent at WR, should help Dennis

(+) Flacco relies on Pitta more than any other QB besides Brees & Graham

(+) He will slide in drafts because people will be looking at his stats from last season

(-) Had 10 TDs in the regular season and postseason 2 years ago when the Ravens won the Super Bowl

(-) The addition of Owen Daniels may eat into his targets

Greg Olsen Pyro Character

9.     Greg Olsen

(+) Cam was asked to be more of a pocket passer and Olsen was the biggest beneficiary of this

(+) He and Cam are on the same page

(+) Has played in all 16 games for six straight seasons, very sturdy player (us Bears fans miss him)

(+) 73 receptions last season, a career high

(+) Had 4 or more catches in 13 games last year

(+) His targets should improve this year at the hand of the total dismantling of the receiving corps for the Panthers this offseason

(+) 6 receiving TD’s in 2013

(-) No games with over 100 yards receiving

(-) Olsen did not have a multi TD game

(-) The NFC South Division is filled with some solid defenses

(-) Cam Newton is out with an injury, maybe till the very start of the season

(-) 11 games with 56 yards or fewer receiving

Zach Ertz Pyro Character

10.   Zach Ertz

(+) Versatile tight end that caught 36 passes for 469 yards and four touchdowns as a rookie

(+) Sleeper material, high value pick

(+) Its his job to be the man in the tight end role as Brent Celek will continue to block

(+) Looks ready to break out in his second season with this unreal offense he plays on

(+) Eagles finished 9th in total passing last year, and with Foles as the number one starter that should improve

(+/-) Had six games with three catches or more, and one multiple touchdown game

(-) The Eagles are loaded offensively and with newly acquired Darren Sproles, Ertz targets will decrease

(-) With Celek as a blocking tight end, it will keep Ertz off the field at times, therefore missing out on playing time

(-) Is reliant on Foles for production, as he threw three of his four touchdowns last season, and the Eagles back-up quarterback is Mark Sanchez

Jason Witten Pyro Character

11.   Jason Witten

(+) Has not missed a regular season game since his rookie year

(+) Has had eight 70+ catch seasons, with one 100+ catch season

(+) Tony Romo’s go-to-receiver, and best friend in the locker room

(+) Top 12 tight end in the past 10 seasons, including top 6 in the last four years

(+) Had 111 targets last season

(-) Is 32 years old, and is entering his 13th season in the NFL

(-) Is primarily a PPR player, as he has averaged only 4 touchdowns per-season over his career

(-) Caught only 73 receptions last year after hauling in 110 in 2012. He has not always been consistent.  In 2004 he had 87 receptions then in 2005 and 2006 he had 66 and 64. 2007-2010, he had 96, 81, 94, 94, then dropped to 79 in 2011, before exploding in 2012

Charles Clay Pyro Character

12.   Charles Clay

(+) A converted tight end from a fullback while at Tulsa, caught 69 passes for 759 yards and six touchdowns, and even ran for one.

(+) The Dolphins will use him more in the offense, such as in the backfield and have him be their goal-line runner

(+) He is firmly entrenched as the number one pass catching tight end on the team

(-) Played two previous years and only caught 34 passes for five touchdowns

(-) The Dolphins offensive line is horrible, as they were first in league with most sacks allowed - Clay could be asked to block a little more

(-) The Dolphins finished just 20th in total passing in 2013, though a new offensive coordinator could change that this season

Dwayne Allen Pyro Character

13.   Dwayne Allen

(+) Had an impressive rookie season with 45 receptions for 521 yards and three touchdowns

(+) Many people thought he outplayed the tight end drafted ahead of him in Coby Fleener

(+) General manager Ryan Grigson named Allen a “beast”

(+) Rob Chudzinski will be a special assistant in the offense, and loves to use his tight ends

(+) Is a solid blocker

(-) Had a foot and hip injury that sidelined him last season after a touchdown reception in game 1

(-) The Colts are more invested in Coby Fleener, and will have to battle him for targets and looks

(-) Had a solid rookie season, but he has not been able to showcase his skills at a consistent basis, so he is an unknown product at this point

(-) The Colts have a lot of offensive weapons, and it may be difficult for Allen to be involved to make a difference

Martellus Bennett Pyro Character

14.   Martellus Bennett

(+) A primary weapon in the Bears offense that finished 5th in passing

(+) The Black Unicorn is a big target standing 6’6 and weighing in at 265

(+) Has had five touchdowns in 2012 and 2013 and over 600 yards both seasons

(+) In September last year, he had five games with 10+ fantasy points over the last two seasons in Sept., but only two 10+ fantasy points the rest of the way

(+/-) Love his soundbites in interviews, but just can't rely on him to be a consistent #FF start at TE

(+) So many weapons on the Bears, I think Martellus is the weak link

(-) Starts out the gate fast, but seems to crash hard

(-)  The emergence of Alshon Jefferey may kill his targets

(-) Has not scored more than five touchdowns in a season during his six-year career

Travis Kelce Pyro Character

15.   Travis Kelce

(+) Expected to emerge in the Kansas City offense, and has the size and frame to be a big target. He stands at 6’5 and weighs 255 pounds

(+) Has the ability to stretch the field

(+) Has nice speed and has shown the ability to make contested catches in the preseason

(-) Not much known about him as he has only appeared in one game as a rookie, before he went down with an injury

(-) The Chiefs are not among the passing leaders, as they are virtually a run first team

Ladarius Green Pyro Character

16.   Ladarius Green

(+) Averaged 22.1 yards per catch with a long of 60 yards

(+) Gates is 34 years old this season

(+) Size speed freak at 6’6” and 240 pounds and runs a 4.5 forty time

(+) Entering his third season in the league when tight ends really begin to break out

(+) If looking for an upside play there is no tight end better than Green this season

(-) Is still raw as a route runner even though he entered the league 2 seasons ago

(-) Still doesn’t get the greatest releases off the line of scrimmage which has been a problem since college

(-) No matter that he has the greater upside he is still behind Gates on the depth chart

(-) Has just 21 catches over 2 seasons in San Diego

Eric Ebron Pyro Character

17.   Eric Ebron

(+) Matthew Stafford will have a field day with this athletic rookie out of North Carolina

(+) The Lions have the easiest strength of schedule for tight ends, this will help EE get rolling early

(+) Megatron will make this kids life wonderful

(+) 6’4” 245 and runs a 4.6 - yikes!

(+/-) We are yet to know how the Lions will use Brandon Pettigrew, another first rounder at the position from 2009

(-) As of 6/5/14, he is the Lions sole un-signed draft pick

(-) He’s a rookie, don’t expect too much - In the past decade, only ONE rookie tight end has gone over 100 fantasy points (Rob Gronkowski in 2010)

Jared Cook Pyro Character

18.   Jared Cook

(+) Had a career year last season with 51 receptions for 671 yards and five touchdowns.

(+) Cook has great hands and athleticism for his 6’5 254 pound frame, with a wingspan of 7 feet, runs a 4.40 40-yard dash, and has a 41-inch vertical

(+) Keeps improving his numbers every year. In touchdowns. Had zero touchdowns in 2009, one in 2010, three in 2011, four, in 2012, and five last season. His receptions and yards have hovered about the same in the last three seasons.

(-) Jeff Fisher has never been a coach that utilizes the tight end

(-) He had seven receptions for 141 yards and two touchdowns in game one, and then no more than five receptions in a game for the rest of the season, also didn’t break the 100 yard mark, and added only three touchdowns.

(-) Has only 13 touchdowns in 75 games played

Heath Miller Pyro Character

19.   Heath Miller

(+)The Steelers still have belief in Miller as they signed him to a two-year extension

(+) Seems really healthy for the first time in a few seasons

(+) Has scored five or more touchdowns five times in his nine year career

(+) Has great hands, and when his targets are high, so are his receptions

(-) Getting up there in age at 31

(-) Has only played in a full 16 game schedule twice since 2005

(-) Last season he had only one touchdown in 14 games, and since 2010 he has only 13 total touchdowns, and that includes the 2012 season where he had eight

Delanie Walker Pyro Character

20.   Delanie Walker

(+) Set a career high in pretty much every category last season

(+) Finished last season as the 12th tight end in fantasy football last season

(+) Caught all 10 of his targets against Indy for 91 yards and a score

(+) Had at least 1 catch in every game he played last season

(-) The Titans offense is far from a vaunted passing offense in the NFL

(-) While he may seem like a breakout player the guy is already 30

(-) Averaged just 9.5 yards a catch last season

Antonio Gates Pyro Character

21.   Antonio Gates

(+) Had 77 receptions last season, the most since 2005, and a 28 total increase from 2012

(+) The Chargers finished fourth in passing last season

(+) Can still make a good red zone target, as he has had seven or more touchdowns from 2004 to 2012.

(-) Has hit the wall at 34 years old

(-) Ladarius Green emerged last season, and will push Gates into a secondary role at tight end

(-) Had only four touchdowns last season

Garrett Graham Pyro Character

22.   Garrett Graham

Tyler Eifert Pyro Character

23.   Tyler Eifert

(+) Will look to take the lessons learned from his rookie year to improve this season

(+) Has the size, speed and hands to make plays

(+) First round draft pick last year, he’ll be better in his second season

(-) May need Jermaine Gresham to get injured to get a real opportunity

(-) Had only three games with more than 50 yards receiving last year

(-) Had more than three catches in a game only twice on the season with five in both games

(-) This team may run a ton more in 2014, you don't score #FF points blocking

Scott Chandler Pyro Character

24.   Scott Chandler

(+) Career numbers in both receiving and yards as he caught 53 receptions for 655 yards

(+) He has a great stature for red zone work, as he stands at 6-7 and weighs 270 pounds, he is also a solid blocker, which will keep him on the field

(+) Even though he has been in the league for five-years he has only been actively playing in the last three, and has caught 14 touchdowns over that span

(-) Had off-season knee surgery, and did not participate in teams OTA's

Tony Moeaki will push Chandler for playing time, and Moeaki has been impressive

(-) His touchdowns dropped from six to three last year, and with the signing of Mike Williams who is a tall target (6-2, 204 pounds) at wide receiver, and the drafting of Sammy Watkins is going to sink Chandler's value

Coby Fleener Pyro Character

25.   Coby Fleener

(+) Fleener and Luck still have that bond going all the way back to college

(+) Is a huge target at 6’6” 250 pounds who can move (4.5 forty)

(+) Two tight end formations are the base of the Colt’s offense, so Fleener will be on the field early and often

(+) He double his production from his rookie season in his sophomore season and will look to continue that trend this season

(+) Has great instincts and body control that allow him to attack the ball at it’s highest point and outmuscle opponents to haul it in

(-) Dwayne Allen really outshines him as a blocker and in the Colts power run scheme that is a huge deal

(-) Dwayne Allen returns from injury and the fact is he was the more productive tight end when both were healthy in 2012

(-) The addition of Hakeem Nicks and the Colts insistence on focusing on the run could knock Fleener’s targets a bit this season

Macredes Lewis Pyro Character

26.   Marcedes Lewis

Jace Amaro Pyro Character

27.   Jace Amaro

(+) Second best prospect at tight end this season

(+) Has great size at 6’5”, 265 pounds with 4.6 speed

(+) Will have a chance to start for the Jets

(+) Geno has limited experience, so he'll check down to the TE plenty

(+/-) Has a chance to be a difference maker for an offense that is potentially much better than it looks

(-) Does not have strong quarterback play in New York

(-) The Jets will be more focused on the run, and he may spend more time as a blocker

Tim Wright Pyro Character

28.   Tim Wright

Luke Willson Pyro Character

29.   Luke Willson

(+) Showed flashes as a rookie, and will be expected to take on a larger role this season

(+) Had a big game in a two point loss in San Francisco with three catches for 70 yards and a touchdown

(+) Has good speed and is a willing blocker

(+) If Harvin goes down, with Rice recently retired they’ll need pass catchers

(-) Will still be behind Zach Miller

(-) Russell Wilson and Seahawks don’t throw enough to make their tight end a consistent threat

(-) Who spells Wilson with two L’s?

Mychal Rivera Pyro Character

Andrew Quarless Pyro Character

31.   Andrew Quarless

Jermaine Gresham Pyro Character

32.   Jermaine Gresham

(+) Cincinnati finished with the fourth overall offense and fourth in passing

(+) He has recorded very solid numbers for a tight end. In his four seasons he has 218 receptions for 2,262 yards and 19 touchdowns, in 59 games played

(+) Has made the Pro-Bowl twice, in back-to-back years 2011-2012

(+) Has great size, standing 6-5 and weighing 218 pounds, makes him a solid red zone target

(-) Tyler Eifert had a significant impact on his season totals. He had 64 receptions in 2012, and dropped to 46 in 2013

(-) Cincinnati has an over-abundance of weapons in their offense, and with rumors of the Bengals wanting to scale down their passing, could slice his value to almost being a non-factor

(+) Has a solid build at 6’4” tall and 257 pounds

(+) Averaged 15.6 yards per catch in his final season at Cal

(+) He will be a part of one of the best offensive attacks in all of the NFL

(+) Can make the spectacular as well as contested catches over the middle

(+) Has shown the ability to split out wide and move around the formation, something the Packers will be sure to do with the youngster

(-) Doesn’t have great straight line speed as he ran just a 4.87 forty at the combine

(-) Needs work as a route runner and is more of a project than instant contributor

(-) Needs to improve after the catch as he is more of a catch and go down kind of guy (see Brandon Pettigrew)
