Divine Intervention

Dear John Elway & John Fox,

This is just a little reminder of who you have leading your team.  This IS Tim Tebow!

Sincerely,

Many fantasy football experts say the rule of thumb for Tim Tebow owners and their sanity is “if you start him, don't watch him”.  The Tebow controversy looms large, and will continue to rage on every week he starts at QB.  No matter what, I will be watching.  Tebow is one of the most polarizing, most inspiring, most refreshing, and most controversial figures in sports today.  He is the perfect escape from the horrific Penn St scandal that has rocked the country.

Speaking of, I watched the Penn St game on Saturday, and I wanted them to lose really, really bad.  At one point, I was cheering for Nebraska out loud with my son, and my wife who doesn't even watch football.  The PSU scandal marred college sports forever, and it's no surprise that I felt the way I did, even though the current Penn St team never abused or molested those boys.

On the other end of the spectrum, you have a guy like Tim Tebow.  There is definitely something extraordinary and compelling about him that makes you root for the guy.  He’s not really an underdog, because he has won multiple championships, the Heisman trophy, and thousands of football accolades and awards.  He’s not electrifying like Vick or Newton.  He’s not pretty throwing the football like Tom Brady or Aaron Rodgers.  So, what is it?  I think it’s as simple as he WINS.

It amazes me that some of these NFL analysts get paid to talk football.  It’s the same story every Monday & Tuesday with Tebow haters, but why crucify the guy for throwing the ball eight times.  It’s not Tebow’s game plan.  That’s on the coaching staff.  If you want to get technical, Tebow’s TD toss to Eric Decker was a perfect pass, and it won the game for the Broncos.  It’s impossible to judge Tebow’s career after a few games.  However, it's quite obvious John Elway and John Fox don't believe in the guy.  To make matters worse, Eric Decker, Demaryius Thomas, and Eddie Royal aren’t exactly ‘elite’ NFL receivers.  The lack of organizational support for Tebow is mind-blowing.  First, they gave the starting job to Kyle Orton in the pre-season, and named Tebow #3.  Then, when Tebow finally got his chance, Broncos brass traded All Pro WR, Brandon Lloyd to the Rams.  I find myself rooting for Tebow to spite John Elway, John Fox, and the haters.  What if Tebow started from day 1?  IMO, no one’s opinion matters, because Tebow believes in himself more than any other athlete, not named Michael Jordan, and look out people, his teammates are starting to buy into him as their leader.  Even the “Johns” can’t do anything about that.  In the end, it’s all about Wins, and that’s what the man does.

Let’s take a look at Tebow's numbers vs the Chiefs from a fantasy perspective:

*Passing:  2 of 8 for 69yds & 1 TD

*Rushing:  9 for 43 & 1 TD

*Fantasy Points = 17.7 (6pts below his average as a starter in the NFL)

8 total passes, 2 completions = Broncos WIN.

You can't make up this stuff.  To put it in perspective, Matthew Stafford threw the ball 63 times for 329 yards and scored 12.5 fantasy Pts. (mostly because of his 4 picks, but even without the INTs, he would have only outscored Tebow by 2.75pts.  That’s mind blowing to think about.

Tebow’s fantasy points per game as a starting QB is astonishing. Before yesterday, he averaged 24pts per game in standard scoring format.  That’s a starter every week in a 12 team league for sure.  Just think what he could have done vs the Chiefs had the Broncos let their QB throw more than 8 times.

Could it really be "Divine Intervention" like some Teboners believe?  I'm not going to get into that, but I've always been a very superstitious fantasy owner, and if Tim really is the “Chosen One”, I’m just glad he’s on my team.  Tebow can best be described as a WINNER.  He has been a Winner ever since he was born on August 14, 1987 when he defied the odds in a different way.

*"While pregnant, a mother suffered a life-threatening infection with a pathogenic amoeba. Because of the drugs used to rouse her from a coma and to treat her dysentery, the fetus experienced a severe placental abruption. Doctors had expected a stillbirth and recommended an abortion to protect her life, but she remained undaunted and refused having an abortion.”  Tim Tebow was born.

It's crazy to think the Broncos now sit just one game out of first place in the AFC West.  Can Tebow lead them to an AFC West Championship?  How about the playoffs?  What about a Superbowl?  Ok, ok, ok I’ll slow down.  Can he even play Quarterback in the NFL?  There is no way the Broncos will make the playoffs after starting 1-4, right?  Most think no way, and the experts think Tebow will get absolutely crushed by the NY Jets vaunted defense this Thursday Night, and I can’t help but agree.  Hell, I’m starting Eli Manning because of it.  I have no idea what to expect, but I won’t ever say "He Can't", because that is Tebow’s fuel for success.

Football is so much more to Tebow than a paycheck, records, and accolades.  Nobody knows what the future holds, but I would not be surprised one bit if we all see Tim Tebow holding up the Lombardi trophy one day as blood, sweat, and tears stream down his face.  The NFL is a better league, and the world is a better place with Tim Tebow.
