Thanksgiving Day Game – Week 12

Houston Texans @ Detroit Lions – 11:30am CT on CBS

Matt Schaub - Pyro Character

Matt SchaubSchaub is coming off of a career game last week in which he passed for 527 yards and 5 TD.  The most impressive stat on his day was his accuracy, as he completed 43 of 55 passes attempted.  This was the first game all season that Schaub has thrown for more than 300 yards.  Schaub has been having a disappointing season, but the fact is the Texans are a run first team and he does have the potential for these outbursts.

Fantasy Call – Schaub will be facing a Detroit defense that has been pretty tough on quarterbacks only yielding an average of 17.3 pts per game.  Schaub will try to ride the momentum of his last game into this match-up, but expect the Texans to try to emphasize Arian Foster more in this game.  Schaub will take some shots deep with Andre Johnson, and could very well connect on one of those.

Matthew Stafford - Pyro Character

Matthew StaffordStafford has been very disappointing this season with only 2 multiple TD games, and has a horrible ratio of 12 TD to 10 INT.  These are not the numbers that owners were expecting of him when he went consistently in the first round of drafts.  Stafford has plenty of weapons to throw the ball to on offense, but he needs to be more precise with his passes of over 20 yards, as he flat out missed Calvin Johnson on 2 sure TD grabs against the Packers.

Fantasy Call – Stafford has a tough match-up to start off the Thanksgiving festivities.  The Texans have been a stingy defense, but they did allow Chad Henne to come in and scorch them for 4 TD at home last week.  Stafford will be without Titus Young, who was suspended by the team for this game, and Houston has a tough defense against quarterbacks.  Stafford should have to throw in this game, but the question is can he throw more than one TD?

Running Backs

Arian Foster - Pyro Character

Arian FosterFoster has been held without a rushing TD in each of the past 2 weeks.  In fact, Foster has had tough go over the past 3 games.  He has managed to have two 100 yard rushing games, but he did it with a 3.6 yards per rush average and a long run of 21 yards.  That has been the story all year in fact as he is averaging only 3.8 yards per carry on the season.

Fantasy Call – Foster is still a dominant player and he is also a viable option in the passing game.  The Texans should look to establish Foster early in the game to open up the play action, and Foster will be looking to bust one with a National audience watching.  Foster should see 22+ carries and have a chance to make an impact in the receiving game.

Justin Forsett – Forsett had his finest game as Foster’s backup last weekend running for 59 yards on just seven carries. Still, he’s without a touchdown on the season and isn’t likely to see one this week against a Lions team that has allowed the second-fewest rushing TDs (3) this year.

Fantasy Call – Not even as a flex.

Ben Tate - Pyro Character

Ben Tate – Tate hasn’t played since Week 7 and has been deemed a “game-time decision” this Thursday.

Fantasy Call – Even if he were to come back this week, you can’t risk playing him just yet.

Mikel Leshoure - Pyro Character

Mikel LeshoureLeShoure seems to have cemented himself as the lead back for the Lions and had 19 carries for 84 yards and TD last week against the Packers.  The TD run was the first since his 3 TD outburst in week 9 at Jacksonville.  LeShoure showed some good burst against the Packers, but failed to break a big run.  His longest run on the season to date is 16 yard run.

Fantasy Call – This looks like it is going to be a tough match-up for LeShoure.  The Texans boast the best Fantasy Defense against running backs and LeShoure does not get involved in the passing game to be effective.  LeShoure might steal a goal line TD, but I would not expect big numbers from him in this game.

Joique Bell – Bell has only had one carry in each of the last two games and looks like he is no longer a fantasy option.

Fantasy Call – Unsubscribe

Kevin Smith - Pyro Character

Kevin SmithIf the amount of snaps Kevin Smith played compared to Bell last week is any indication, then Smith has supplanted Bell as the third-down back in this offense. If that is indeed the case, then Smith will actually have a bit of fantasy juice left in him this season as Bell was putting up some decent fantasy points on a semi-regular basis in the role.

Fantasy Call – Whatever the case, you can’t even think about it against this Texans defense.

Wide Receivers

Andre Johnson - Pyro Character

Andre JohnsonJohnson is coming off a career day; yeah you could call it that, in which he had 14 catches for 273 yards and a game winning 48 yard TD catch.  That gave Johnson his third 100-yard game of the season and his 3rd TD on the year.  The good news is that Johnson is has seen at least 10 targets over the past five games.  Johnson showed that he still has the game breaking ability and with the targets he is getting you would expect better numbers going forward.

Fantasy Call – Johnson will definitely see a lot of attention in this match-up after his performance last week.  Johnson should see a lot of coverage rolled over to his side of the field as the Lions will try to take away the big play.  In the two previous games following a 100 yard game for Johnson he has disappointed, with 3 catches for 21 yards and 4 catches for 35 yards in those games.  If you own him you are not going to bench him, but don’t expect a repeat performance of last week.

Kevin Walter - Pyro Character

Kevin WalterWalter saw the most targets that he has seen all season in week 11.  Walter has only had 3 games all season in which he has had more than 50 yards.

Fantasy Call – Walter is the fourth or fifth option for a run first team, and the Lions are a good defense against wide receivers.

Keshawn Martin - Pyro Character

Keshawn Martin Martin caught his first career touchdown last weekend against the Jaguars, but it was only his seventh catch on the season.

Fantasy Call – He’s a pretty good play in return-yardage leagues, but that’s about it.

Calvin Johnson - Pyro Character

Calvin Johnson – Johnson has found the endzone in each of the last 2 weeks and he has been impressive with 17 catches for 350 yards over that span.  Then you can think about the 2 long TD catches he would have had against the Packers had Stafford not overthrown him badly both times.  Johnson is finally seeing more targets from Stafford and is the only reliable option in the passing game.

Fantasy Call – Joseph is iffy for the Texans and if he is not guarding him, then Calvin should be able to find openings to make some big plays.  Titus Young is suspended for this game and the only other options at WR will be Ryan Broyles and Mike Thomas.  Johnson should be busy in this game.

Titus Young - Pyro Character

Titus YoungYoung has been suspended for this game for behavior detrimental to the team.

Fantasy Call – At least his fantasy potential can’t hurt you this week.

Ryan Broyles - Pyro Character

Ryan BroylesBroyles has not been much of a fantasy factor over the past three weeks with just nine catches for 93 yards and no TDs. However, Ryan is going to be thrust into the spotlight this week with Titus Young suspended, so his production will almost certainly be in for an uptick.

Fantasy Call – Broyles has his best chance of the season to make an impact in this game. Megatron is going to get the attention from the safeties, so Broyles should see a lot of one-on-one coverage for most of the game. I wouldn’t risk more than a WR3 spot on him this week, but he certainly has the upside of a WR2 if Houston decides to triple-team Calvin.

Mike ThomasMike Thomas…remember me when I was on Jacksonville?  Thomas has been an underachieving wide receiver throughout his career, mostly due to his problem catching the ball.  However, with Young out for the game, Thomas will see his first action for Detroit and should actually line up as the starter in his place with Broyles handling the slot.

Fantasy Call – Despite his starter-status, Thomas is still not the greatest of options in this game. I expect him to be used as more of as a decoy and thus not worth playing as more than a desperation flex this week.

Tight Ends

Owen Daniels - Pyro Character

Owen DanielsDaniels has been pretty consistent all season averaging about 5 receptions, 60 yards and .5 TD per game.  Daniels is not going to break out and go for big yardage, but he is always a threat in the redzone and is a very reliable target for Schaub.

Fantasy Call – Daniels should be able to find room to work underneath the defense in this game and has a chance to finish with 5 catches for 60 yards and a TD.

Garrett GrahamGraham had a breakout game last week with 8 catches for 82 yards and 2 TD.  It will be interesting to see if he can carry this momentum going forward.

Fantasy Call – I would not expect to see a repeat performance from Graham and would not start him.

Brandon PettigrewPettigrew has been pretty awful over the past 3 weeks, in which he has totaled 8 receptions for 65 yards, with a TD catch, which is his only saving grace.  Pettigrew is only averaging 9.5 yards per catch and his reception totals are down this season.

Fantasy Call – Pettigrew is not a game breaker and has only found the endzone 2 times all season.  This game presents a tough match-up with the Texans who are only giving up 7 pts a game to Tight Ends.

Tony Scheffler - Pyro Character

Tony Scheffler – After becoming known as a touchdown-vulture to Brandon Pettigrew owners last season, Scheffler has been relatively non-existent so far in 2012 catching just 19 passes and zero touchdowns on the year.

Fantasy Call – Don’t get sneaky here.
